Sky likes being a mercenary. He can do whatever job he wants and if he sleeps, nopony will yell at him. The perfect life. It seems life for him was going well as he likes to be the laziest pony around and would rather laugh as blood and guts come out of him than just the regular screaming imbeciles around him. Besides, with everypony knowing how to use magic one way or another, his life can quite fun as his flight takes another turn after taking such a forbidden art and using it to the darkest he can get.
He could choose the righteous path and leave others to their place once saved. Or he can go the jackass way and just conquer their flanks. Both ways of course. His bloodline has to continue in some way.
