Chapter 52: Chapter 47: Knife to the Back of the Head
Previous Chapter Next ChapterTwilight cried as kept running, even teleportation as her emotions flavored and sent her across the land as far as she can see or even reaching the magical limit. Thoughts swarming of how she is too torn of which side to choose. And all because of this all out war.
All the running teleportation and she didn’t see what was ahead before slamming into a wall and made her fall to the ground as it started to rain. Leaving her staring up at the dark sky.
“Wow. When you run, you are really committed.” Spike spoke up as he steps up beside her and looks down at her. “You’re lucky I got dragon magic on you.”
Twilight sniffs as she kept crying before quickly hugging and crying into his armor plate. “Spike…I couldn’t choose…she is like my own mother.” Twilight sobbed.
Spike looks down sadly at her as he pats her head in some form of consoling. “Then you are not going to like what I just learned.”
“What? What could be worse than this?” Twilight sobbed heavily.
“Celestia made this all happen. Everything with the maiden general and whoever is with her. Celestia orchestrated the whole current war now.” Spike says sadly and suddenly a loud popped resonated as Twilight’s horn smoked like a bonfire as he realizes that they are back in the academy outside of Celestia’s office.
“I want to hear this for myself.” Twilight says as she kept her head down and walks towards the door as the guards noticed her and opened the door for the student of the archmage as Spike stayed outside and watches as the door closes.
“Twilight…nice to see you again. Tell me…did the Overlord Sky sent you over to send a message about something?” Celestia asks as she looks over some scrolls, her smile hiding a barricade of lies that Twilight hopes are not real. Celestia then notices the down look of Twilight and leans her head down a bit to see her face. “Is something the matter my faithful student?”
“Celestia…are you hoping Sky surrenders and gives up on this war?” Twilight asks seriously as she doesn’t look up.
Celestia raises an eyebrow at this as she puts down her current scroll. “I would hope so and see reason. He is disrupting the entire realm’s peace.”
Twilight frowns a little now. “Did you have, in any way, worked with those attacking him to get him to stop?”
“But of course my student. How else but a mediator would those kingdoms band together to fight him even with as great of a threat he posed to them.” Celestia says before taking a drink of wine.
Celestia suddenly realizes she isn’t drinking anything and looks to see that the wine bottle has been cut cleanly before looking to her desk and sees the wine stains all over it. “Twilight, please calm down. I am only doing this for the safety of the lands.”
“Did you actually ordered him to be killed?” Twilight almost calls out in a demanding tone as her horn starts to glow.
“Well, not yet. But once he surrenders, all the wealth, territory, and…” Celestia starts before everything exploded and the glass was blown outwards as she chokes on her words, feeling heavy pressure press on her while she is up against the wall.
“You are nothing but a hypocrite!” Twilight yells as she finally looks up at her with tears in her angry eyes. “I can’t believe you…I almost abandoned my husband for you.”
Celestia, needlessly to say, is a little shocked that Twilight actually went and married Sky. And she only sent her, in the beginning, to keep him in check or hold him back as much as possible. How could this much change?! Celestia ended up struggling to get out of her student’s magical grip now as her own horn glows bright yellow.
“Listen now and listen good. My husband just finished defeating one of the entire armies that were sent to attack him. The general was captured and the master spy they sent was caught before the war even began. Sky will not rest till this war is truly over and all the provinces are united. He also already is starting to gain legitimacy by having Giffonstone recognize him as a true ruler of these lands. He is also already starting to talk and don’t bother with trying to fuel an uprising. The citizens have already acknowledged him as their leader for the most part.” Twilight informs.
Celestia frowns heavily before her magic sends out a shockwave and pushes Twilight back as it destroys more of the room. “I will not allow such a brute to destroy the peace on these lands.”
“Celestia…” Twilight hisses with poison. “I do not wish to be your student anymore.” Twilight huffs before firing off a psychic bolt and sends Celestia sliding back. “I’m done. No wonder Luna gave up easily here. She knew how flawed it was. My husband and I will continue on this path and free ponies and will bring peace to these lands and not just be a game for you to move others on it like your toys.” Twilight says before sending a shockwave out, destroying the windows and blowing the doors off their hinges before teleporting away followed by Spike.
Celestia frowns heavily as she starts to use her magic to repair the room. “Seems the game is no longer to be played in the back room.”
“I doubt it will be nice to play along Vinyl. Besides, I’m fearing that Celestia will play another card once she realizes that Twilight is back for good.” Sky says as he fixes his outfit and looks to Vinyl.
“True. With this, she has overstepped her agreements and now I am mad at her because she attacked my husband and my vampires will be unhappy when they hear she tried to take away our territory.” Vinyl says sitting up.
“As with any enemy.” Sky huffs before trying to smile. “How do I look?” He asks giving a pose.
“Like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders.” Vinyl comments.
“Ah, well let’s put some pressure on Celestia, shall we? I want you to anonymously start to have your vampire spread anti-Celestia sentiments to the populace using only facts.” Sky says smirking.
“I’ll see what I can draw up.” Vinyl says already thinking of it.
“After you spread it throughout my territory, spread it beyond. Your vampire has my permission to move beyond the borders for that, but not to hunt. That is part of our deal.” Sky reminds.
“Yeah. Yeah.” Vinyl says before slinking off.
“I hope Raven can find some way to block the weapons Twilight came up with.” Sky says worried, once more feeling that Celestia will use them against him and his people.
A loud magical pop made him turn suddenly and send out some dark tendrils at whoever came in and was stopped by a shield bubble. “It’s not easy to defend yet. You need to disable the magic while it is flying through the air and it can turn into a regular arrow.” Twilight says with a frown on her face as her mane is matted down with rain.
“Twilight…is this how Celestia wishes to end my life?” Sky asks.
Twilight kept frowning before looking down and lowers her shield. “You want to do it and take your anger out on me, go ahead.”
“What do you want Twi?” Sky asks getting back to work.
Twilight is silent for a bit before sighing. “I’m done Sky.”
“Done what?” Sky asks.
“Working for her. I have renounced myself at her student. I am done with the archmage…I now see why archmage Luna left so easily.” Twilight explains as she doesn’t move from her spot.
“I thought you choose her over me.” Sky says stopping his work.
“I didn’t know what to choose. She was like a mother to me. I couldn’t let that slide easily…after Spike told me what she has done…I had to find out myself.” Twilight says.
“You didn’t.” Sky says in disbelief.
“I literally destroyed her office.” Twilight huffs.
“…I need a few hawks.” Sky says turning back to the desk.
Twilight stayed looking down to the ground as she waited.
“As of this moment, all those affiliated with Celestia are barred from my realm. Celestia herself is hereby barred from my realm for conspiring in state intrigue to fabricate false evidence to implicate my wife Queen Twilight Sparkle of treason against the throne and for plotting the assassination of Overlord Sky and all the kings of the realm.” Sky writes as he says it aloud.
Twilight slowly smiles a bit as she starts to tear up and cry.
“It is not official yet, but Celestia started this war. I will end it and I will not lose my wife over it.” Sky says starting to make copies.
Twilight sniffs as she kept looking down. “I’ll…I’ll be in the old room.” She says almost quietly before teleportation away.
“Three, two, one.” Sky says as she teleports back. “Raven moved her supplies there.”
Twilight sighs. “So where am I staying…since you guys decided to forget about me?”
“Here.” Sky says.
“What?” Twilight asks in surprise.
“You are my wife and it is high time more of you started acting like it.” Sky says.
“More of you?” Twilight asks a bit confused.
“You aren’t my only wife and I wish some of you wouldn’t have a room on the other side of the castles we stay in like Rainbow does.” Sky says.
“Some of us have jobs and positions to do.” Twilight informs quietly.
“Well, now it is time to do your queenly duties and help me. While you were gone, the armies retreated through the northern pass of the mountain. That was four days ago. This leaves us the western part of it. The kingdom of this province is still reeling in shock. They never expected that I would not only reject their demands but also kill their envoy for being so rude.” Sky says.
“It was to be expected. Usually, most would send them on their way. It has been that way for years upon years.” Twilight informs.
“Yes, but that age is over. We will bring a new age. Now there is a lot of work to do. The attack forces are splitting again. Moonlight is heading into Carthaginensis. His orders are simple. Convince all the tribes to join us either willingly or by conquest if the need arises. Dark Tail will continue overseeing the north while we will continue handling the south. Meanwhile, Vinyl and her kind will scour the mountains, looking for the dwarves and establish diplomatic contact. We don’t want the alliance to convince them to enter the war on their side.” Sky informs.
“The only problem is…her…she will not play hidden anymore.” Twilight stutters as she couldn’t say the name right.
“No, but we are about to make it very bad for her. I already sent word of what she has done to every corner of my lands and my trade partners in Griffonstone. By now, it has started spreading to others. Celestia is going to lose a lot of clout because of this.” Sky informs.
Twilight slowly nods before feeling some hooves wrap around her and looks to see Sky hugging her. “Thought I would have to earn your trust again.”
“No more running from me and no more excuses. We have a war to win and by winning, we will pass the trail Fumel herself has set to us.” Sky says before Twilight feels herself start to get warm.
“Okay…what now?” Twilight asks looking at him as she blushes a bit.
“As queen, you must also produce an heir for me.” Sky whispers into her ear making her smile.
“Well…we do have some time.” Twilight says as she blushes heavily.
The war had taken a turn for the worse Belgica alliance. After what they had thought was a major victory and stalling of their forces, they had expected that their demands with the support of Celestia in the negotiations would have been met, but not only were they refused, but their envoy was executed by the overlord himself after being disrespected and insulted by the envoy and the terms.
With that, much of their forces, to the displeasure of some of the kings and lords, fell back across the mountains to regroup so not to be enveloped and destroyed after news of Alexander’s capture and her army taken prisoner.
Sky and his generals didn’t allow this chance slip by them. For now, they had control of fiefs of Buttercourt, Valhedge, Bellpond, Wellcoast, Bridgefield, Butterash, Greenbridge, Mallowland, Ostborough, Springelf, Bridgemill, Fallloch, and Bushwyn now firmly in their control. More than half of all the fiefs of the providence. The downside was they were all the smallest fiefs and they hadn’t even made it past the first of the two huge mountains of the providence, but it was a good start to the wars first seven months.
Meanwhile, things hadn’t gone so well for Celestia. When Sky had started to spread what she had done behind the scenes, many of the other rulers started to distance themselves from her or be reluctant to even let her mediate issues or wars.
Meanwhile, Vinyl and her vampires had far more luck. It took them months, but they eventually made contact with the dwarves of the mountain and arranged a meeting. The leader of the dwarves, when he arrived at the meeting point, to his surprise, found Sky there waiting and not only that instead of the threats to become his vassal or to join him in the war, Sky offered a non-aggression treaty and a trade agreement. The dwarf king had been at a loss for words at first, but after recovering his composure, he signed the treaty and happily entered into the trade agreement. Opening up the roads to not only Gaul, but Libya, Celtica, the northern territories, and the Republic of Griffonstone and kept him out of the war as he saw it didn’t involve his people.
Now the armies were rested and ready with Moonlight’s on special assignment, Dark Tail trying to push in the north and Sky pushing from the south.
“Alright Moonlight. I leave it to you to convince or conquer the tribes to the south of us.” Sly says looking at his general.
“I’ll do what I can Overlord.” Moonlight says bowing his head.
Sky nods as Moonlight rode off, taking his army with him as he headed south into Carthaginensis. As Sky took his army east into Fogholt where they found devastation. Fields were burned and houses were destroyed.
“Tell me…make sure…that there are no bodies.” Sky orders in an almost whispering tone as he hoped this wasn’t a random strike and they at least had the decency to get the people out.
His army searched carefully but found nothing.
“No bodies…supplies…no homes…no water?” Raven spoke up.
“Scoured earth then.” Sky says recognizing this from his books.
“She’s moving herself now. No more watching from her pampered office.” Raven says sighing.
“Who are you talking about?” Sky asks.
“Who do you think?” Raven says turning to him.
“Can’t be Alexander. We captured her.” Sky says.
Raven just raises an eyebrow towards him.
“Oh, you mean Celestia.” Sky says.
Raven nods subtly as she turns back towards the front.
“Yeah, and now we face her politically. For later if she is still up to her tricks, we will invade.” Sky informs as they marched the army.
“So another of these?” Raven asks looking at the land.
“I am wondering about the city.” Sky says as they continued on after telling everyone to ration their food and water.
“Don’t. There is no hope of saving it.” Rainbow says reminds.
“But we have to.” Sky says.
“I can keep their spirits up.” Pinkie says.
“What is the next target?” Maud asks riding up beside them.
“Senbasa. Was founded by settlers across the sea beyond even the island federation. Now it is the nexus for the slave trade of the entire province and was for Gual as well before my reforms changed that.” Sky says.
“So we are going to quash that system?” Pinkie asks as she leans her head close to him.
“I am considering it. Depends what we find.” Sky says lying, having already decided.
“Oh…maybe rework it?” Pinkie suggested.
“We shall see.” Sky says.
“Okay.” Pinkie says before kissing his cheek cutely. “You look cute by the way…in an overlord kind of way.”
“Thank you. Now let’s quicken the pace.” Sky says.
The army stood outside the gate of the massive city. It was quite obvious that the city hadn’t been razed like the farms and the lands, but the beautiful onion like tops of the city shone brightly in the sun and Sky and the rest of them noticed that an audience was already gathering on the walls.
“What are those civilians doing?” Sky asks.
“Looks like they are coming out to watch a show like one of our arenas.” Rainbow says.
“But what is the question.” Sky says as he tries to spot anything of the sort.
“Overlord, the gate is opening.” One of the officers says.
“How many?” Sky asks, looking somewhat interested.
“One.” The officer says.
“Guide, who is that?” Sky asks the local guide they had hired
“That must be Senbasa’s champion.” The guide says as the pony started throwing out insults after getting off his wildebeest.
“Do they want me to send out my champion or something?” Sky asks.
“Honestly, it’s anypony. I would rather you just come down off your salamander and send him flying with a flick of the hoof.” Rainbow explains.
“Fine. If they want to play that way. we will humiliate them, but have scouting parties move to walk the other gate in case of a sneak attack.” Sky says whispering the last part to Rainbow who nods. “Alright. Who wants to represent me?” Sky asks.
“Send this one.” Raven says pushing forward a unicorn colt. “Trust me. It’ll be good.” She says with as much emotion as her face can muster.
Sky blinks as the colt walks up as he is only wearing some mage clothing as he steps forward before the whole army. “Raven…how much training does he have?” Sky asks as he kept watching.
Raven hums as the colt lifts a hoof up as the stallion charges with a lance pointing at him. “About…” Raven muses before the colt flicks his hoof up a bit and sends the stallion flying high into the air, screaming like a filly. “A week’s worth of training.” Raven says a bit disappointed as the stallion came crashing down onto the ground.
“How was that Mistress Raven?” The colt asks, almost innocent and young like.
“Mediocre.” Raven calls out loud enough for the downed stallion to hear as some of the army laugh and chuckle.
“Kill that pathetic ‘champion’.” Sky orders, a bit discussed and one of his younger royal guards took out his axe and threw it at the ‘champion’, splitting his head in two.
“Really? Really? Really? A week’s worth of training and a flick of a hoof is enough…you know. I’m kinda glad we didn’t waste a foot soldier with this one.” Rainbow says a bit annoyed now.
“Shields up!” Sky calls as magical shield surrounded them as the city had started shooting arrows at them in spite.
“Somepony’s having a temper tantrum.” Raven mumbles.
“Raven, please cast a spell to amplify my voice. I decided which king will die now and I will use it as a test.” Sky says.
Raven rolls her eyes a bit amused before her horn glows over his throat.
“Hear me Senbasa. I am Overlord Sky. I have come here to answer the attacks your province had made on ours multiple time. I am to conquer you all. I will spare all who bend the knee to me now.” Sky calls, his yell multiplied several times as if he was yelling into a microphone. “But, I was insulted by you with your so-called peace offering. Disband my armies, pay five hundred tons in gold and silver, hand over my salamanders and wildebeests, and give to you an eighth of my realm. Your envoy who was from your city so arrogantly gave me. This insult will not go unpunished either. At first, I had decided before this campaign began to spare the rulers off the battlefield, but one must die for that insult and I have chosen it to be your king. I give you one hour to surrender and hand him over or we will attack and take this city by force!” Sky yells at them with authority.
“How long before they all charge?” Rainbow asks bored out of her mind having waited for nearly forty minutes.
“It seems like many are undecided.” Sky says.
“Want to bet time?” Rainbow asks holding up a bag of gold.
“No need for gold when we take it we will also take the treasury and this city must have quite a bit considering it is a hub of trading.” Sky says making Rainbow imagine how much gold was in those walls.
“We should really re-use these places.” Rainbow says distantly.
“It is better than ju…no it isn’t. I will demolition a great deal of it and have it rebuilt. The slave pens will be the first to go.” Sky says as they wait for word having sent Gilda and her band ahead months ago to this city.
“Of course they are…we should look into the routes they made for the slaves.” Rainbow points out.
“Already have my spies and the vampires doing that.” Sky says before they started hearing movement inside the city. “Formation!” Sky calls and the army immediately got up and into positions before the gates opened and a few ponies who looked bloodied were walking towards him with a box. When they got close, they bowed and presented him with the box. When Sky opened it, he saw it was the head of their king. He recognized it from a painting his spies had brought him of all the rulers. “How many died in your revolt?” Sky asks simply putting the head back into the box.
“Around two hundred overlord.” One stallion says bitterly as they glare towards the head.
“See to the wounded and give the head to your priests for a proper burial along with the rest of the dead.” Sky instructs.
“Yes, overlord.” The pony says moving to leave.
“What of the former king’s family and heir?” Sky asks.
“We are waiting for what to do with them.” Another spoke up.
“If I recall correctly, the heir is a colt, correct?” Sky asks.
“Bragged about constantly.” Maud says dryly.
“Take the heir and enroll him in our academies.” Sky instructs before signaling his army to march into the city.
“So…conquered a city…going to do what you planned, right?” Pinkie asks as she sat behind him.
“Yes.” Sky says simply.
After entering the city, Sky systematically inspected everything. He informed them all that they were now subject to his laws, especially the ones on slavery. This didn’t go over too well with many nobles who started plotting against him already. Five attempts were made on his life in that city while he brought order and two of the six great houses of the city had to be executed for breaking his laws by attempting to murder him despite how much they tried to bribe him. He sent a clear message he would not tolerate those who questioned his rulership, but for the other four who gave their full support he rewarded with gold and trading rights to trade and manage the trade with the dwarves. They had to close down their slave trafficking because it became a very negative on their income, but the income they would make from trading and managing the new trade routes made them do it voluntarily and started freeing slaves like many others. Sky didn’t let this slip by him now that he ruled the fief he proclaimed that any of the former slaves who work the land and start a farm would be rewarded with ownership of a said piece of land as long as it was successful. His wives immediately knew his aim. With the land razed, it would take a lot of work to start getting the farms to work again and with this new freed workforce jobless they would jump at the opportunity especially if the Overlord would start funding them at first.
“So…are we going to have sexy time?” Pinkie asks sitting on his chest as he laid in a bed while Maud read a book near the bed.
“Pinkie, he has told me there will not be as he doesn’t want to lose another commander because they are pregnant.” Maud informs.
“Aw…maybe take some herbs?” Pinkie suggested to her.
“Sixty-five percent successful Pinkie.” Sky groans under her as he rubs his head. “Not taking the chance.”
“I can actually blow you.” Pinkie says bluntly.
Sky turns his head to Maud who lowers her book at him. “She reads a ton more books than I do.” Maud explains before bringing her book back up.
“No Pinkie. We march in less than an hour.” Sky says.
“I can do in thirty.” Pinkie says proudly.
“Rocks are reallllllll helpful.” Maud drones out as she flips a page.
“Pinkie, what have we talked about with no meaning no?” Sky asks.
“Gah. You’re boring now.” Pinkie whines before jumping off and landing next to Maud and actually adopts her mane and eye style as she picks up a book and mimics her movements.
“So how much land will you raze Artoria the second?” Sky asks thinking hard, rereading Moonlight’s notes on the general he had been fighting.
