Chapter 37: Zecora Loyalty Part B: The lost children
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSpike looked around him, seeing the group of officers surrounding them. They were armed with weapons that were meant to stun, but Spike knew he had to do something to get them to back up. With a deep breath, he lowered his assault rifle.
"Soldiers," he spoke, standing up straight. "my crew and I are not your enemies. We are on the same side against injustice. I know you have your orders to take Zecora in for past crimes, but know that if you do, but know that if you do it, then you'll all fall victim to Sombra." This got the guards to stop in their tracks, whispering heard in English and their language about Sombra. Spike smirked under his helmet. "Yes! Zecora, the one you're after, is on a suicide mission with me to stop Sombra and his army of Doppelgangers from taking over Equestria. We are here to find her son, and we're going to get out of here as quickly as possible to save your world and others!" They murmured to each other.
"...Who are you?" one of them asked.
"Commander Spike; Division M6 of the Royal Canterlot Guards, and captain of the Celestia." The guards showed intrigue with each other, but it was more doubting. One of the guards took out what looked liked a hand-made grenade and dropped it near his feet, running to the three.
"GRENADE!!!" he yelled before it exploded. The grenade exploded with an Electric field around it, zapping the guards around and making them fall and twitch on the floor wildly. The guards pulled their weapons out and fired at the trees around, believing it to be thrown from somewhere. The guard ran to them and grabbed Zecora by her hand. "This way!" Without a word, she followed him. Spike and Big Mac followed, keeping their heads low as the guards fired.
"They're escaping!" A guard yelled, firing at them. The guard with them fired back, stunning his own comrade. Though Spike wanted to shoot back, his weapons would surely kill them.
So much for being peaceful. He thought to himself. A guard appeared before him, swinging an electrified weapon at them. Both Spike and Big Mac dodged his swings, though they got hit a couple of times, sending an electric shock that was painful and made their part numb for a few moments. With a single punch, Big Mac knocked out the guard in their path, and Spike took his weapon.
They ran into the jungle, the guards gave chase, but stopped after a while. The guard they were with stopped at some ladders and began to climb up.
"Okay... before we follow you," Spike spoke, taking a deep breath. "Who are you and why are you doing this?" The guard looked down from them, taking off his helmet.
"I'm Zocra," he answered "one of Zecora's orphans."
"I should've known by those eyes," Zecora replied with a smile "that, and your professional lies."
"It's great to see you again, mother. Come on, this is where the others have been hiding." He continued to climb the ladder. Spike and Big Mac followed, but were much slower than the Zebs, who continued like it was nothing.
"Ah kinda wish I took those climbing classes at school." Big Mac commented.
"Yeah," Spike answered "but I'm just glad we're going to meet some friendly faces."
After an hour of climbing, they entered a relatively large tree hut that looked abandoned. They entered, and Zecora was greeted by the cheers of various Zebs, the youngest at tweens while others were young adults.
"My children," Zecora spoke "seeing you well is good to know!" she looked around, but frowned "Where is my son, Zecoro?"
"...About that," Zocra spoke "Ever since you left, he's... he ran away from our hiding spot."
"What happened?" Spike asked "Can you give us a clue on where he's at?"
"He never explained why he ran away, only that it was personal. As for clues... I can already think of one. Ziona's gone on a manhunt to find and rid the village of orphans, probably the only old tradition that he's keeping. He want to pass a bill that will have everyone have an I.D. on them, and if they have no parents, then they'll be branded and outcasted into the wild. I am but the lucky few ones that work in the security's ranks, but I fear that I'll be discovered."
"So what you're saying is that we follow the asshole that's trying to pass this bill and wait for Zecoro to appear?"
"I... didn't say that, but yes, that's a start."
"Thank you. Zecora?" Spike turned, but saw the Zeb sitting down, drinking tea. "Zecora? Come on, we have to-"
"Patience, Spike," She spoke with a sip "going out in the daylight is childlike. We shall head out in the night, so we shall stay out of sight."
"You have a plan for this?"
"I stay in the shadows, and you follow Ziona above as he wallows. The trees will hold your weight, and hopefully, we stop Zecoro before follows this fate. Please, take your helmet off. The Oxygen you breath will not be cutoff." Spike sighed as he sat down and took his helmet off. He breathed easily, feeling the warm air hit his face, but he was use to it. Big Mac also sat down, taking his mask off.
"So we're just gonna sit here and drink tea?"
"Indeed. Please, try my tea; it will knock you down onto your knee." She handed Spike and Big Mac a tea cup with the tea inside. Trusting, they took a sip from their tea. They fell to the floor, sleeping. "Hm... perhaps I added too much herbs. Oh well, live and learn."
Spike woke up from the tea. He saw Zecora putting on her hoodie and holding a staff similar to what she used in Ponyville. It was night outside, though lights were seen below.
"It is time," she spoke "I pray we stop Zecoro from committing this crime." She opened the door and leapt out. Spike quickly got up and put his helmet on. He looked down outside, only to see Zecora running along the branches of one of the giant trees below.
I better hurry up. Spike thought to himself. He looked behind to see Big Mac snoring away. The tea must be more effective on humans than Drakes. Sleep Well, Big Mac. He began to climb down the ladder, but jumped onto the nearest branch. The branch held up, and Spike walked along it, heading back to the village.
Spike walked along the tree branches, finding Ziona pretty easily, and followed him around the village. He saw another hooded figure, looking similar to Zecora, but was a bit more masculine with lean muscles. Spike saw the figure pull out a knife, similar to Zecora's when they first meet, but he could tell that it was brand new. He was approaching right behind Ziona. Spike jumped down and rolled onto the floor, running to the figure.
"Zecoro!!!" He yelled. The figure turned to Spike, but turned back to Ziona. Ziona saw this and ran away, but was followed by Zecoro into a house. Zecora landed right next to Spike, and the two ran into the house, followed by some guards. Inside, Zecora and Spike stopped as Zecoro, who looked liked a male & younger version of Zecora, held the blade to Ziona's neck.
"Zecoro..." Zecora spoke, seeing her son in many years.
"You!?" Zecoro asked "Is this some kind of joke!? After all these years, you came now!?
"Help me, assassin!" Ziona pleaded "I'll do whatever you want!" The guards came in, preparing the weapons from earlier, but also had guns.
"Freeze!" The guards shouted "Zecora, Zecoro, Spike! You're both under arrest for attempting to assassinate Ziona!"
"I do not wish to kill Ziona," Zecora spoke "I want to meet my son, the son of Zeena."
"I'm not your son!" Zecoro shouted "Get out of my way! I'm walking out, and he's coming with me!"
"That would not be wise. Do it, and you won't claim your prize."
"Shut up! You've never been there for me! Ever since father died, you filled your hole up with those... those orphans! Putting more attention on them, but never for your son? Why did you come back? Here to mock me? Here to build another orphanage that will burn to the ground like the last, before you left?"
Zecora did all of this because her husband died? Spike thought And her son... he didn't feel loved, what with her making sure the Orphans are taken care of. I gotta make sure he doesn't kill Ziona; he's an asshole, but Zecoro's in enough trouble as it is.
Your mother loves you.
