Sunset Shimmer Loyalty Part C: Shoot, but reprogram

"Can you move!?" Mecha-Sparkle asked "I want to meet-"

"We know what you're really doing," Spike interrupted "but we can't let you do that."

"Commander!" Sunset yelled "What the hell are you doing!?"

"What the hell are you talking about!?" Mecha Sparkle asked "Can't you see I'm just-"

"Listen. I'm here to help you, Twilight."

"Twilight!? I'm not the princess of friendship, I'm-"

"I'm a friend of Sunset Shimmer. She wants you dead, but I'm hoping that's unnecessary."

"Sunset? Is this some kind of sick joke!?"

"Do I look like the joking type?"

"Dammit, Spike!" Sunset yelled "If he moves, I'm taking the shot!" Mecha-Sparkle looked around in terror.

"Y-you're not kidding, are you?" she asked in fear "Screw this! I'll go on another day-" she turned to walk, but Spike grabbed her arm.

"Don't move." Spike instructed

"Get off me!"

"I'm the only thing standing between you and a bullet to the head."

"...Fuck."

"Tell me, why did you kill your friends and leave Sunset alone? Why is there a hole in your head?"

"...Look... I-I didn't want to do it! I-I didn't have a choice."

"Everyone has a choice." Sunset grumbled to herself "You chose the life of a fucking backstabber and killed all of your friends!"

"I was worried about Sunset Shimmer's life for a sec and followed her as she went to the Wizard's hideout. They got to me and placed a virus in my programming."

"Why didn't you tell her about it?" Spike asked

"Yes, why didn't you tell me." Sunset added "I could've easily fixed you up and we could've kicked some ass together!"

"It messed with my programming." Mecha-Sparkle answered. "It messed up my vocals every time tried to talk to Sunset about it. It made me give off bad advise on what we should do instead of what's going on with me."

"Then why did you kill your friends?" Spike inquired "Why kill the only people you knew?"

"...It's with the virus as well. They made me this... killing machine. There's a list of specific people inside me right now that they want me to target. I don't have an X-ray feature, so it assumed they were the original people. In return, it made me more powerful for the next target. It... it feels... good! The power and surge from every kill... it makes me feel indestructible! If I were to kill Celestia, then maybe... I'd be immortal like her."

"So you killed our allies because your virus made you think it was the originals?" Sunset inquired "I'm... I'm not so sure about what to feel."

"But... Fuck, I'm a monster! I'm becoming powerful outside... but I'm weak inside. I'm nothing more than metal with wires, programmed with ones & zeroes, who is doing these horrible things because they meet the wrong people at the wrong time. Please... if It'll help... Sunset... if she's still there... kill me. Killing is my drug, and this is my only way to be free from it." Sunset stared at the distance, lowering her sniper, and teared up, realizing that she didn't mean to do it, she's under some sort of control and hates it.

"...Commander?" she asked "I'm... I don't know what to do."

"...Take the shot." Spike replied.

"What!?" both Sunset and Mecha-Sparkle asked

"Twilight, trust me. You're not going to die: Sunset's going to shoot your reprogramming function, releasing you from your virus. Sunset... aim in between her eyes, I'll hold her back. Sweetie Belle?"

"On it." Sweetie replied, holding a small hard drive and putting it in between Mecha-Sparkle's eyes. Spike & Sweetie Belle quickly ran behind Twilight and held her back. Mecha-Sparkle saw Celestia again and her programming booted in, making her aim for Celestia. Sunset aimed her sniper rifle back to Mecha Sparkle's head, aiming at the hard drive.

"This is for your own good." she muttered to herself. She pulled the trigger, firing a bullet at Mecha Sparkle's head. It had enough pressure to make the hard drive go into Meach Sparkle's head and made her fall behind. A large surge of electricity ran through Mecha-Sparkle's body, making her twitch and everyone around to stop & watch. After a few moments, Mecha-Sparkle stopped and stood right up. She saw everyone looking at her, and saw Celestia herself walking to her. Spike nodded at her.

"Go." He simply said. She smiled at him.

"Thank you." she said. Turning, Mecha-Sparkle ran away, people standing to the side while others took pictures of her. Celestia stood next to Spike.

"Was that... Twilight?" she asked

"Almost." Spike replied "She will be, soon." He walked away, disappearing into the crowd before Celestia noticed who she was talking to.

Back on the Celestia, Spike walked into the battery room to check on Sunset shimmer. The door opened, and Spike stopped at what he saw: Sunset Shimmer was in her armor, but it was now light blue at top & regular blue at the legs. Sunset turned to him, but went back to the battery.

"Commander." she spoke.

"How are you doing?" Spike asked

"I know you want to talk about it... but I don't. At least, not yet."

"I know it didn't go the way you planned, but I think it's for the best."

"I'm not so sure."

"Give it time."

"Yeah... maybe that'll be enough. I want to know if I did the right thing. Not just for me, but our friends. They deserve to be avenged. But when Mecha-Sparkle was in my sight... I couldn't do it."

"...The lines between good and evil blur when we're looking at someone we know."

"Yeah. There was still good in him. I... I could see it. It's so much easier to see the world in black and white, but gray... I don't know what to do."

"You've got to go with your instincts."

"My instincts are what got me into this mess."

"Don't be too hard on yourself." He opened his arms. Sunset went in and hugged Spike

"Thanks, Spike... for everything." she teared up a bit.

"Hey, you're my friend, and I'm sure you'd do the same for me."

"Yeah... maybe more."

"What was that?" she jumped and released Spike from their hug.

"Nothing! Nothing at all! Uh... you want to know what I did here?"

"Yeah. Show me."

"Alright. Well, the Celestia here has some of the finest missiles FIST could afford."

"Yeah."

"Well, I tinkered with the systems and found a way to do some serious damage."

"... Keep going. I'm interested."

"Alright, I've basically alternated the missile launchers to fire something I call the Thanix Canon."

"The Thanix Canon? What does that do?"

"Basically, it fires a concentrated beam far more powerful than any laser blast in the galaxy! I've tested the calculations; a single beam as big as a strain of hair can burn a whole piece of paper in half of a second. Now, just imagine a whole log of that beam fired at an enemy ship."

"...That... sounds awesome!"

"Yep! It should take down Sombra's ship easily."

"I like it! But what about the crew?"

"Easy. Not everyone here can aim well, so I added scopes to every weapon."

"...Every weapon?"

"Including shotguns. With my calculations, everyone should have a 50% better aim. Ammo saved, better aim, more enemies down."

"Very good! I love what you've done."

"And I love you." She stopped and both stared at each other. Unlike the other two times, Spikes pants didn't feel conflicted, but... he liked it. "Uh... Forget that I said that. I... I-uh... got carried away, okay? I'm basically as old as Twilight, so... this... um... I gotta do some calibrations!!!" she turned around and hastily got back to work. Spike stared for a moment then left. Reflection on Sonata's words, perhaps he and Sunset could be like today's Harold & Maude, and with their friendship added, this wasn't too weird for him. He snapped himself back to reality.

"You... you do that. I... I gotta check on... someone." he left the room
