Chapter 27: The Vigilante Part A: A murder
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSpike calmed down as he went into the elevator, realizing what the weird feeling in his pants was.
Oh my God! He thought to himself This... this hasn't happened before! Is... is this a form of love? He went up to his command quarters and asked Nurse Redheart, The Doctor, and Twilight about his... reaction. An hour passed, and the feeling inside went away, along with an answer. All three were the same in general; Spike's body is producing a lot of hormones and many of the women in the crew were producing pheromones, thus, he was falling in love with some of his crew mates. However, Drake's hormones make them more violent & can make them almost uncontrollable, but Spike, being a soldier & disciplined, was able to control this, but may let himself go before or after their final mission. Twilight's message was that it was alright for Spike to fall in love with someone, but he needs to think who will most likely be with him afterwards. Redheart's message was for him to make sure his lover was around his age; though everyone was an adult, it would be considered taboo for him to fall in love with someone like Zecora, who is much older than him. The Doctor's final message was for Spike to come and visit him when he found his lover, so that he can give him the advice needed for both to not only pleasure themselves, but also how to be safe about it. The last one made Spike blush really hard.
"Commander?" Spitfire's voice asked.
"...Yes?" Spike replied
"You going out or what?"
"I... I will be. Who's the final person?"
"The Vigilante around here. Soarin knows where she's at, remember?"
"Uh... Thank you! And I belive I'm going to need Sunset Shimmer and Zecora for this."
"Gotcha. Patching them through."
This should help me think straight. He thought to himself.
Spike, Sunset, and Zecora (in her hood) walked to the Wonderbolts station in Canterlot. Though there were no soldiers around, there were some security cameras around, and some of the Wonderbolts around looked like they could fight. Sitting on a bench outside, enjoying a piece of pie, was Soarin himself. They walked to him as he finished his piece.
"...Can I help you three?" He asked
"I'm looking for the vigilante called 'Mare-Do-Well'." He jumped right up, dropping his piece and looked around in fear.
"Wait. Why!? Did-Did she kill someone!? I didn't do it!"
"Calm down there," Sunset replied "We just need to know where they're at." Soarin took a deep breath.
"Alright... just... don't tell her you found me. She went to the commercial spaceport a few hours ago. You better get a cab to get over there, though. Just be polite to her; she's got a real nasty side to her and isn't afraid to kill you on the spot."
"Is she really that dangerous?" Spike asked
"If you follow the laws, you're fine, but she follows some sort of code to stop any lawbreaker, some with lethal force. Not even bribing will work; she'll shoot you in the head for that."
"She sounds quite dangerous," Zecora commented "but is she really courageous?"
"That's up to you to decide. As for me, I'm staying inside here with the Wonderbolts; at least she can't enter restricted areas like these without alerting authorities."
"Thanks for the information, Soarin." Spike replied "Hope you and Rainbow Dash will settle your problems."
"Wait... Spike!?"
"Now he realizes?" Sunset asked. At that moment, Soarin fainted and fell face first into his pie. All three chuckled at the sight.
"Come on, Mare-Do-Well won't stay for long." They walked away as some Wonderbolts came down and picked up the unconscious Soarin.
After a ride from the taxi & it's driver, they arrived to the Commercial Spaceport. They exited their vehicle, but watched as a small, human male with two Angel guards of the same sex were stopped by a female mage.
"Where do you think you're going!?" She demanded. He turned with an annoyed sigh.
"I'm taking my goods to Manehatten, detective." he replied
"You're not going anywhere, merchant! Not until I solve this murder."
"I had nothing to do with that! It was those mercenary thugs you can't seem to get rid of."
"The victim was your business partner and I'm not ruling you out. I'll let you know when you can leave."
"What about that vigilante that showed up? She might go crazy and start killing everyone! I need to leave, ASAP!"
"She only kills criminals, so I'm sure you'll be fine, Pint head. Find me in the station if you need me to." Spike nodded for his group to follow right behind him. He walked to the small human that, if it was possible, he would gladly watch Big Mac caper toss him across a field to see how far he'd go.
"What do you want, lizard? I've already got mercs wanting to kill me like my partner and I don't want anymore trouble. As if that weren't enough, someone in a costume is killing everyone in her path! I've got to get off of this planet, somehow." Spike took a deep breath with a hint of annoyance.
"Did Mare-Do-Well do something?"
"They say she's threatening when fighting; if someone does a small crime, she'll shoot immediately."
"How do I find Mare-Do-Well?"
"She's in the alley where my business partner was murdered. A detective sealed the area, so you'll have to talk with her if you want to go there." Spike's left eyebrow rose up
"You don't seem too sad for your partner's death."
"Josh knew the risks when he took to spacing. Right now, I have to worry about myself."
"Well why do you think these mercs murdered him and why would they go after you?"
"I have no idea; we're innocent merchants! They killed him and they're probably after me next; I have to get out of here!"
"Why do you think it was Mercenaries?"
"Ugh... my partner was cutting through the back alley and someone killed him with a shotgun. I saw his body this morning; they used modded rounds, which means they're Shadowbolts."
"And I take it you know something about the Shadowbolts?"
"I occasionally do business with them, but only in well lit places and only after the bits are cleared. This is a scummy bunch, even by merc standards. They're able to process poison joke into some sort of herb that's said to be much stronger than marijuana."
"Hm... interesting. I should go."
"You do that, lizard boy." Spike lowly growled to himself as his fists clenched, but he walked inside where the mage who stopped him. Inside, the mage sat on her desk
"Nice guns," she commented "try not to use them in my district. What can I do for you?"
"I'm looking for the vigilante, Mare-Do-Well." Spike answered, taking a seat in front of her.
"If you have a score to settle with her, take it somewhere else; I've got more than enough troubles here."
"Actually, I need her on an important mission to stop Sombra." She whistled
"Sounds important. If I know my vigilantes well enough, it's that they work alone, but are drawn to impossible causes."
"Then she'll join us?" Sunset asked
"If you're getting her out of my district, I'll get you to her ASAP. She's in the crime scene."
"Hold on," Spike inquired "you're letting her into a sealed crime scene?"
"I'm a cop and she wants justice as I do. Besides, she's actually been looking at crime scenes longer than me with greater experience. Probably a Raptor, now that I think of it."
"You seem awfully anxious to get her out of here."
"My bosses want me to detain her; they're worried she may cause more crime than solve it through her vigilantism. I don't know about her code, but she may kill us. I have no interest of dying, so if you're able to lure her away with some big noble cause beforeI have to carry out my numbers, I'm thrilled to help."
"Alright, how do I get to the crime scene?"
"It's around the corner; go outside, take a left, and look for the police line. I'll send word to let you in. Be careful, the local Shadowbolts Mercs have been all over those back alleys lately."
"What happened at the crime scene? As far as you can tell."
"A human merchant was murdered. It was a professional hit, so we're not dealing with junkies looking for a score. I beleive it was the Shadowbolts, but I can't prove it. Maybe it was just a good deal gone bad." Spike nodded to her
"I have to go."
"Good luck."
Spike, Sunset, and Zecora walked into the crime scene. The police nodded as they passed. It wasn't until they continued when they encountered some Shadowbolts that they pulled out their weapons; Both Spike & Sunset stayed together, but Zecora was something else. While in combat, Spike watched as Zecora gracefully climbed up a wall with no trouble and took her sniper rifle out, picking them off one by one. When the Shadowbolts saw her, she exited into the ducts and made her way above them, dropping silently before covering the person's mouth with one hand slitting their throats with a knife using the other. Both Spike & Sunset had a mix feeling of whether they can trust Zecora or not.
When they entered a room, a lone Shadowbolt screamed as she was tossed to a wall, a loud crack as she slammed into the wall, dying upon impact. They looked up, seeing a lone Shadowbolt approached by Mare-Do-Well. The first thing Spike saw about the Costume was that it looked more militaristic than what Twilight & her friends wore to make Rainbow Dash learn something (something he thought was stupid), there was no cape, but holes for her wings to come out, and no gloves, but the claws that matched that of a raptor.
"Alright, buddy," Mare-Do-Well spoke, but in a robotic voice that protected her identity. "tell me what I need to know, and I'll only break your arm. Tell me where he went!"
"You'd think I betray him!?" The shadowbolt asked "He'll hurt me in ways you can't imagine!" Mare do Well grabbed him by his neck.
"Let's see if we can change that!" Using her claws, Mare-Do-Well grabbed the man's testicle area. This caused him to scream and Spike crossing his legs together, only imagining the pain. She then threw the man out of a window and made him crash into some crates. Her wings flapped and she landed next to the merc, whimpering in pain. "As I asked, what was the name of the ship!?"
"...G-go to... hell!"
"...You asked for it." she pulled a pistol out and executed him with only one shot to the head. She turned to the other, who slowly approached her. "Commander Spike!? Holy shit! You're... alive!?!?!?"
"Do I know you?" Spike asked
"No, but we have meet before. Here, this will help." She pressed some buttons on her arm, some hissing came out, and the face opened, revealing a familiar Raptor.
"...Gilda!?"
Profiles:
Gilda was the childhood friend of Rainbow Dash in Cloudsdale and is one of the many Raptors in the galaxy. Years had passed since the two were together, but, due to her species rough history and lack of empathy, was quickly kicked out of the colony of Ponyville and had to make a living selling Griffin-scones, despite how terrible it tasted. This was changed when Pinkie and Rainbow Dash came to help Griffinstone with it's problem, leading the solution to not get the lost treasure back, but help Gilda make friends and cause a domino effect around her colony. Due to reasone yet to be explained, Gilda took the identity of Mare-Do-Well and became a vigilante.
"Yeah, that's me." she replied "So are we friend or foe?"
"...That merc was wounded and helpless," Spike replied, crossing his arms "Do you kill anyone who won't help you?"
"Just those that are huge pieces of shit and break the law. Don't you do the same?"
"I've killed before, but with good reasons."
"Well you and I may or may not have different ways, Spike. I sleep well, at least. So what do you want? I'm sure you're not here to find me, right?"
"Ah, I'm going against suicidal odds and I need the best with me, which includes you."
"I'm flattered, but I'm busy finding a killer around here. Basically, I gotta kill him, find the name of the ship he's using, and blow it the fuck up!"
"I wish you could go, 'Mare-Do-Well'," the detective spoke, entering their area "but I've been ordered to take you into custody if you don't leave."
"What the-!? Did you lead her here!?" Spike shook his head.
"I didn't!" he replied
"Don't worry," the detective continued "for you, Miss, we're going to have to hold you in for custody for a day."
"...Fine, but I better be out the next!" Gilda replied
"Sorry, but you'll be in for a while."
"Then I'll find a way out." The two stared down at each other.
We'll find a way to help you out.
