All of Twilight's experiences since her arrival in Ponyville have been lessons leading up to a "final exam." Solving Starswirl The Bearded's last spell presented Twilight with a challenge that brought into play what she had spent her lifetime studying. Her lessons in Ponyville were the last step toward preparing for that test. It earned her the title Princess and transformed her into an Alicorn.
But there was one last lesson that her heart had been learning during her time in Ponyville. Her final exam would begin with a serious accident and what she discovers about herself in its wake. That discovery would lead her on an epic journey that would break her heart, shake her unquestioning devotion to ponies she'd always held closest to her heart and change the future of Equestira.
