Chapter 27: Six Gifts
Previous Chapter Next Chapter"Only when I get socks."
"I would probably do the same thing..." There were only a few days until Hearths Warming, and you needed to buy six gifts, "Dash, I'm going to go somewhere. Don't follow me."
"Why?" She crossed her arms, "Are you seeing someone else?" I just need a gift for you, while having no idea what to get you...
"No, not at all! I'm just going to go get a few things from the mall with... Spike." First name that came into my mind, and a friend who's a guy would be a nice change.
"Fine, be back in a few hours though. I wanna show you something."
"Show it to me now, then. No need to wait for the mall to close and me to come back." After messing up Dash's hair even more than it was before, you planted a kiss on the bridge of her nose.
"It's special, and I have to prepare it. Go away." She combed her hair with her fingers, actually, attempted to.
The library staircase was half clean, and Spike was flicking books over the rail into a pike below. You opened the glass door and walked down the right side, Spike not knowing that you were shuffling down towards him.
"Hey Spike." Spike turned around rapidly, hitting a book and making them slide down to the right side. He facepalmed and that's when you noticed he was wearing purple gloves. As he removed his hand from his face, he sighed and looked at you.
"What do you want?"
"Do you have to buy any Hearths Warming presents? 'Cause I'm going to the mall and if you need to get something for Twilight, Dash, Rarity or anyone else then maybe you and I could chill." His green eyes widened and his pupils constricted, and a sweat broke out on his face.
"D-did you say..." His pupils continued constricting until he had none, then shattered and started beating as hot pink hearts, "Rarity?"
"Yeah, your point?" You flinched backwards as the hearts in his eyes broke to reveal a normal pupil, and he looked around nervously.
"What if I don't find anything that she'd like?! She would surely hate me...!"
"Rarity's on vacation anyways, she wouldn't mind not getting anything." You saw Spike relax, his shoulders loosening. He looked around, and after he shrugged, he nodded his head.
"Let's go-" Text from Pinkie.
[16:00] Pinkie Pie: Hiya! Are you doing anything today other than going to the mall?
How'd she...
"Pinkie Pie goes to this school? Any clue how she got here?" Spike pointed to your phone, which you were typing on while talking.
"Yeah, and no. I think she probably got here for throwing a party."
[16:02] You: No, y u ask?
[16:02] Pinkie Pie: Bcause if u were free then u can help me get Dashie a Hearths Warming present.
[16:02] You: Sry Pinks, I'm a bit busy.
[16:03] It's okie.
"True that. Twilight wants this book series, and I can't find it online. So, looks like I'll be coming with you." Spike threw a book into the pile on the floor and walked with you down to the library doors. He was only slightly smaller than Dash, tall for his age.
"A book series? That's so nerdy."
"That's so Twilight." He lightly murmured, as if Twilight was around to hear.
The walk to the mall was cold as hell, both of you guys shivering and shaking wildly. When you entered the mall, a burst of warmth hit you like... A burst of hot air... So, Dash likes athletics... Something to do with athletics shall be her gift. I hope.
Spike walked straight into a book store and was reading the cover page of books, not finding the series. For a while. You did the same, finding a nice novel for Twilight. Spike placed a giant gold and silver book on the counter, labeled 'Secretive'. You slid the gift you got her beside Spike's gift, the book not even reaching three quarters of the other one. After they were finally bought, you looked at the many, many, many shops. One down, five to go.
"If Pinkie, Dash, Rarity and Twilight go here... Do AJ and Fluttershy too?"
"Mhm." Your eyes looked up from the tiled mall ground, and you read the name of a clothing store. Western 49. I know what I'm getting from there...
As you passed through the arch into the store, Spike looked at you and laughed. He knew exactly what you were getting for Applejack. You turned to your left, eyes widening at the whole wall of cowboy hats... So many to choose from. Running up to the hats like they were candy and you were a kid, you saw the top row had the darkest brown ones. There was one that had an orange band stitched onto the outside, and was perfect for AJ. Your arm shot up and your toes stood on the very tip. The hat loosened from the peg and dropped down onto Spike's head. You laughed as you snatched it up and brought it to the counter. My budget, it's good to set a budget, was 500 dollars. I spent 30 dollars so far. I'm doing dandy.
"Would you like to pay cash or credit?" A toothpaste-haired, third-person speaking girl questioned. Trixie looked you up and down, rolling her eyes.
"Cash." You gave her a twenty dollar bill and spun on your heel, putting the twenty dollar hat into the bag with the ten dollar book. Two out of six. What should I get for Rarity... Dress.
Spike beamed when you told him you were going to get Rarity's gift now. You knew the mall well enough, and the store that Rarity loved was across from Western 49. It was pack-full of males shopping for their girlfriends, friends or even mothers. Then, right there at the back of the store... You could just imagine Rarity wearing it...
You attempted to fold the gown, but it was too puffy. So, you tossed it to the cashier to let him scan it and such. The price was low for a dress that quality, but still a lot of money for people who only brought two-hundred dollars. Because that was the exact price. Spike got her a necklace with a heart-shaped ruby at the end, overdoing it for you. There was two more presents you needed to buy, Dash would have to wait since you didn't know what to get her.
[17:00] Dash: Ur surprise... Is complete!
You quickly texted back with a simple 'yay', and looked around when an adorable animal was caught in your sights, squishing it's whiskered nose against the glass that it was in. Before your brain could work, your legs started towards the pet store. The feline wobbled around and fell over, it's eyes derping up. You ditched Spike for the kitty, you realized as you whipped out your money as fast as a cheetah. The cat looked through it's cage at you, it's eyes wide with cuteness. After some discussion with the animal caretaker, the cat was yours. Well, your gift that will be someone else's.
"So, the Tabby female?"
"Yes please." Your eyes drifted to the kitten that was laying on a blanket in the corner of the room.
"That'll be two-hundred seventy dollars."
"That's all the money I have left... Whatever." You handed him the dough and carefully grasped the cat in a way she wouldn't be mad at. Her fluffiness made you want to keep her for yourself, but she was Fluttershy's as soon as you could give it to her. I'll go enough over my budget for Dash and Pinkie.
Spike took the kitten away from you as you bought what would be considered a nice gift by Pinkie, balloons coloured magenta. The air around you smelled like an angry Dash, in your imagination... So you ran out of there like hell and back to the college. You were scared, since Spike almost dropped cat twice. I sure hope cat is alright. I also hope Fluttershy can name cat properly... I should stop calling her 'cat'.
"Dude! I'm gonna drop the cat if you keep this running up!" He shouted at you, you were quite far ahead from him. You didn't slow down, just splashed through bushes to get the that one room with Dash in there.
Eventually, you stopped sprinting to take a breath right outside the door of the sacred room with Dash in it. Your finger pressed against the door and it flung open, you falling forwards right by Dash's feet. Another pair of feet, technically claws, came into view. And they leaped off the ground to snuggle Dash.
"Who's this?" Dash laughed, pushing the young cat away from her leg.
"Fluttershy's gift."
"Anything for me?!"
"No, sorry."
"Damn." Her arms crossed as her head jerked towards a monstrosity of a present sitting on the couch. She closed the door as you galloped over to it, pulling the ribbon on the top.
Another box. Cat jumped from your bed to Dash's repeatedly, as if on a sugar high. You unknotted the next box's rope. Box. You angrily turned your head to see Dash, who was smiling. Lifting off the lid of the medium-sized box, you saw something shiny.
Shiny box. The tape that secured the lid to the actual box was ripping off and you chucked the top at Dash, who swiftly dodged. This time, there was a sphere. You slapped your face and tore the wrapping off, then opening the hollow sphere. ANOTHER. FREAKING. BOX.
Cat trotted over to you and bit the small-ish box, drooling all over it. She clawed away half of the box and ran away, nomming on her prize. Guess what was inside. A pyramid, "Really Dash?!"
"Just finish opening that one." You did so, picking up a velvet box with a hinge on the back. As you carefully opened it, a cream pillow was underneath a wonderful gift. Cushioning the gift, "I should've let you open it at Hearths Warming..."
She snatched the little case that was holding that magnificent present... Making you huff and cross your arms, "Fine."
"What did you get the girls?" Dash's line of sight shifted to the shopping bag with balloons next to it.
"For Twilight I got a book, Applejack a hat... Rarity a dress, Pinkie some balloons and Flutters this cat. I named her cat for now." You pet cat's head, scratching behind her ears.
"Why didn't you get anything for me?"
"I didn't know what you'd like... I mean, you could change your mind at any moment."
"All girls change their mind, idiot."
