Chapter 28: Can't We Skip Right To Break?
Previous Chapter Next ChapterYou looked over to Dash's bed, which had a curled up girl in it. The urge to not wake her, and let her sleep peacefully, filled you until you looked at the alarm. It was ringing continuously, but you didn't want to go to any classes. You eventually found your way out of the bed, tapping Dash to wake up. She didn't wake up even after you slapped her, so you shook your head and went to get dressed.
"I'm awake!" Dash shot upwards, "Ah-huh... Eh?"
"What are you, Canadian?"
She rolled her eyes, "We have classes, don't we..."
"Indeed." You cocked your head to the clock, "Get dressed."
Her body moved as fast as lightning, and she was dressed before you knew it. Her arm went up to her forehead and formed a salute, which made you chuckle. She held it for a few seconds before walking to the door and exiting, followed by you.
The two of you quietly walked down the hall, you even sneakily peeked at Dash to find her twisting the loose string on her worn down bracelet. Someone was heading the opposite direction of you, so you side-stepped to the right. Dash was still wrapping the thread around her finger, and crashed straight into the guy.
"Watch where you're going, fa-" He looked down at Dash, smiling, "Hey Dashie."
"Hi Thunderlane..."
"Never thought I'd see you here... Y'know... At a college." His arms crossed, and you could feel the attitude.
"Shut up. I want nothing to do with you." Her hands grasped a math book and a couple science books, stuffing them into her school bag.
"I want something to do with you, maybe some small talk. How's your sister? After a couple of years she gotta be alright." He picked up Dash's school bag and helped her up, giving her the bag. Well, attempted to help her up. She was frozen.
"I... She's-" She scooped her bag from his hands and ran down the hall, down the stairs and probably straight to the classroom.
Thunderlane looked at you, raising an eyebrow, "What was that?"
"She doesn't have a sister."
"Yeah, she does. I know that from when I used to go to her house to... Play..." He smirked, which made you barf a little.
"Okay, Dash did have a sister. She's dead, though. Okay? Okay." You did the same thing as Dash did, but without crying.
The class smelled of cake batter and sprinkles, and you sniffed it all in. At the front of the class, there was a slightly plump woman. Her hair was styled like magenta icing on a cupcake, all while wearing a tacky apron. You sat down at the desk and knew that this was all for cooking. There was an extra desk in the back completely covered in cooking supplies. After a minute, the bell rang and the late people flooded in.
"Hello everybody! My name is Cup Cake, but please call me Mrs. Cake! This is home ec, and we will be cooking." She swiped a bowl from her right to in front of her, "I'm going to need all the ingredients if I want to show an example. Pinkie, the blue icing please."
Pinkie's poofy hair, then her face, slowly rose up. Her mouth was stained blue, "What blue icing?"
"Pinkie..." Mrs. Cake groaned, "What have your father and I told you about inhaling the baking materials?"
"What baking materials?"
"Pinkie..!"
"Who's Pinkie?" She put her blue hand to her blue chin, "Oh, that's me!"
Mrs. Cake turned back to the class, "Sorry for the inconvenience... But without the icing we can't do anything worth eating. So, I consider this a study hall period."
Groan from the right, groan from the left, groan from everywhere else. You pulled out your phone and check for messages. None. But, you decided to start a conversation with someone.
[8:50] You: Hey Twi.
[8:50] Twilight: What are you doing texting in class?!
[8:50] You: Calm, Twilight. It's now a study hall period. Everyone's texting at this point.
[8:51] Twilight: I'm not...
[8:51] You: Yes, u r.
[Blocked]
Thanks, Twi. Love you too. Guess I'll text someone else.
[8:52] You: How's your vacation so far, Rares?
[8:52] Rarity: How did you get my phone number.
[8:52] Rarity: That is a statement, not a question. Answer anyways.
[8:52] You: Pretty sure you gave it to me... Whatever. About the vacation?
[8:52] Rarity: I am still on the plane. Leave me alone.
[8:53] You: But Rarity, I wanna chat!
[Blocked]
You angrily stuffed your phone back into your pocket, resting your left ear on your desk. Dash was sleeping, with a note on her head. The note was stuck to the yellow part of her multi-coloured hair, and was in your general direction. The words were scratched on by, probably, a chicken. You couldn't even read it.
To your other side, there were people texting. No one to text for you though. Friday was going to be the last day until the break, and the wait was unbearable. Your eyes shut and you fell asleep like Dash did, dreaming nothing worth a story.
Bell. Furious, yelling bell. That's what the period bell was doing, shouting at you to get up. Lifted eyelids revealed Dash being there, awake. The red note was ripped up into minute pieces, scattered around Dash's desk. Her face was the same colour as the note, like it said something embarrassing or flattering. Yet again, Dash wasn't happy... Embarrassing note.
"Dash." Poke.
"Dash." Poke.
"What do you want?" She whispered, still looking forwards.
"What did the note say?" Poke.
"...Nothing of your concern..."
"Tell me." Po- Enough with the poking.
"No."
"Tell me." You commanded, in a deeper voice.
"...No."
"Tell me!" Shouting that didn't help, and people looked at you two. Dash glared at you evilly, hissing, "Sorry... Tell me."
"I'll tell you in the dorm after classes, alright?" Victory!
"Heh. I won." You went to hug Dash, but retreated a couple times before giving up since she was staying as solid as a brick. Just sitting there, being a brick.
Time passed so slowly for that class, and the next. Even the next, all the way until lunch. Then Dash would tell you about the note that you were a bit scared about. Just a bit. Maybe a little more than a bit. After all the waiting, the lunch bell finally rang and you turned to Dash, who sighed.
"The dorm." She groaned, getting out of her chair and the door. I'm frightened about that note. What would've got her so upset?
You made your way to the room, shutting the door and expecting Dash to tell you something terrible like she only has twenty-four hours to live. And specifically that she was told that she has twenty-four hours to live...
"So..?" You impatiently said, looking at the back of Dash's head.
"Thunderlane wants to get back together, and I just don't know what to do..." Bracelet, though.
"He'll just keep bringing up my family, plus, I like you." She rolled around on the couch to look dead in your eyes, "I'd hate to see him upset too."
"Deny it and tell him you're sorry, that you're with me."
"Guess what he'd do then? Attack you and beat you to a pulp." She snuffled, "He's aggressive."
"He'll beat me up? I don't think so." Your look told Dash something: way too much confidence. Dash had that factor, but she worked it.
"Yeah, I think so." Her eyes rotated adorably.
"Hey. That's not nice."
"Deal with it." She pulled pure black glasses out of from under the couch and put them on, "I'm so frustrated I can't work these right now! Anyone can work glasses! Anyone."
