Spotlights Are Meant To Shine

Pinkie was giggling like a maniac, and then giggling at her giggle's echo. After a minute of this, you looked at the time and continued down the stairs. Dash beside you, and the faint sound of music coming from the room where the party's in. The indoor park, actually. Vinyl was at her turntable, and Octavia was sitting beside her, just sitting there. Rarity and Braeburn were beside the alcoholic drink table, chatting away. Heh, the princess with the butler. Makes complete sense.

"Dashie! You have to sing again tonight, I have no acts and that makes me sad because nobody signed up except you because I signed you up and I really need you to sing because music can get boring, we need a live act!" Pinkie appeared in front of you, smiling.

"Okay... I guess." Dash responded, looking behind Pinkie at AJ, who was mingling with random people.

"Yayzies!" Pinkie said, skipping away.

Dash was blushing, it was obvious. She didn't want to wear her Daring Do costume because it meant showing off her love for the series.

"Dash, don't be embarrassed. You're dressed up like everyone else here. Pinkie should be more embarrassed than you." You smiled at Dash.

"Fine. What can we do? I'm bored. This is boring. Can we go now?" Dash hid behind you like a little girl.

"We can chat with people and stuff. Come on, let's go." You walked over to AJ, with Dash beside you, "Hi AJ."

"Howdy! How are ya?"

"I'm doing fine, thank you." You said while smiling.

"Good." Dash responded, bluntly.

"What's got ya down, RD?"

"Nothing." She crossed her arms, trying to cover up her costume in the most discreet way possible.

"Fine, don't tell me. Ah see that ya mucked up y'all costume that Rarity made you."

"Yup." You heard a loud, girlish screech, and Rarity stomped over to you.

"What did you do to the outfit?!" She lifted your arm, looking at the ugly fake blood that was stained onto the white material.

"I made it into a real costume." You wiped some fake blood off your face, and pointed at Rarity, "Lemme do the same to your dress!"

"No! Stand back!" Rarity pulled up her dress, lifting up her leg as if she was going to kick you. That glass slipper would hurt...

"Like you would kick me-" You felt the heel of her shoe slam into your stomach, and then Rarity retreating her leg and pushing her fists out in a fighting-manner.

"You ruffian! If you dare touch my silky dress, I will make sure you don't live to see the sunrise!"

"Will do... Since my stomach is aching now." You said, making Rarity return to Braeburn.

"Are you alright?" Dash asked you, lightly hugging you.

"If you'd let go of my stomach, yes." You slapped Dash's hand and walked over to the food table, picking up a cookie. Dash did the same, nomming on the cookie, "You're adorable."

"What did you say?" Dash said while chewing.

"Nothing."

"Okaaaay then." She rolled her eyes, swallowing her cookie, "Let's dance!"

"But I'm eating."

"Dammit." She frowned, but smiled when Pinkie tapped her shoulder.

"Go sing! I want you to sing now because since no one else signed up we my as well get it over with." Pinkie smiled and was only an inch away from Dash's face, Dash leaning backwards to try to get away from Pinkie.

"Pinkie. You're making this awkward." Dash's smile got an awkward added to the front of it.

"How? I'm usually this close to people because it makes their eyes turn into one giant eye. You're a Cyclops!" Pinkie's face was smushed onto the inside of her giant balloon. Oh Pinkie...

Dash took a step back and turned, starting her walk to the stage. Vinyl waved to her, and Dash waved back before taking the microphone off the stand, into her right hand.

“It's alright, you're ready, for the night of your life, stars will shine so bright. They say we're dancing the stress away. Hey hey. This beat gets underneath your feet. Right now, together we will meet. This place will blow your mind away. Hey hey.” Dash stomped her foot when she started the chorus, “Welcome to the club now, gonna pump it up now. This is an emergency. Music is my galaxy. Welcome to the club now, everybody up now. We've got it going on, until the break of dawn. Welcome to the club now, gonna pump it up now. This is an emergency. Music is my galaxy. Welcome to the club now, everybody up now. We've got it going on, until the break of dawn.”

“So put record on.” Dash sang right after the chorus ended, making the word ‘on’ sound a bit electronic.

Since Dash was singing, you had one less person to talk to. Rarity was certainly off limits, not just because Braeburn was occupying her. Twilight was off into the trees, beside Fluttershy, reading a book. The book was on how to party. Oh my Celestia...That Twilight.

"Sup Twilight?"

"Hello there." She took her nose out of her book and looked at you through her purple-rimmed glasses, "How are you doing today?"

"I'm doing fine, Dash was almost murdered in an alleyway this morning, though."

"Oh really? That's great. You know, one of the pigeons in the indoor park took my book and flew away. Now I have nothing to do and I'm bored." She responded as the book-thief flew away to the other side of the dome.

"But you're at a party..."

"Exactly my point! I'm bored!" She said, looking over to Fluttershy. She was holding Angel, petting him softly. He didn't like it and was trying to escape her grasp.

"Go mingle with people." You motioned your hand to the dozens of people that were dancing.

"Mingle? With... people?" Her mouth was hanging open, aghast. As if she never socialized before.

"Yes, you should try it sometime."

"Maybe you should mingle with books, numbskull." She crossed her arms, pouting.

"I do. Everyone once in a while. But I still have a social life." You sat down beside Twilight.

"I have a social life!" She stood up, stomping her feet.

"Oh really now? Prove it."

"How can I possibly prove it?" She huffed.

"Go talk to people. No science, no books unless they bring it up." You said, making Twilight turn around and start talking.

"Hello Fluttershy." You softly said, frightening her anyways.

"Oh my... H-hello..." She replied, biting her lip.

"How are you at this fine party?" Angel was eyeing you with his beady little eyes, making you feel awkward.

"I'm doing... Nice." She said very quietly, and you realized something. Her voice is soft, I bet her voice would be soft in a song.

"Be right back, Flutters." You got up and walked to Pinkie, who was happily bouncing to the end of Dash's song.

"Hey Pinks, Fluttershy wants to sign up for singing."

"Okie Dokie Loki!" Pinkie wrote down Fluttershy's name on a clipboard that she pulled out of thin air, then made it disappear again, "Get her over here because Dashie's song is about to end..."

"So put the record on." Dash finished the song and smiled, putting the microphone back. She then jumped off the stage.

"Now." Pinkie finished, giggling.

You walked over to Fluttershy and took her hand, forcing her up. She dropped Angel, who happily bounced around. Helping her up to the stage, she realized what was going on and squealed.

"I-I have stage fright... I can't sing in front of those people..."

"Yes you can, Flutters. Spotlights are meant to shine, and stars are too. You are a star tonight." You smiled as Fluttershy whispered a song to Vinyl. She said it very, very quietly, and Vinyl just heard her.

"Oh-Okay.." She sat down in the chair, adjusting the microphone.

Fluttershy bit her lip and looked over to you. You were telling her to close her eyes and relax, and she did exactly that.

“Once in a while, I act like a child… To feel like a kid again. It gets like a prison in the body I'm living in. Cause everyone's watching, quick to start talking. I'm losing my innocence. Wish I were a little girl… Without the weight of the world. It would be nice… To start over again, before we were men. I'd give, I'd bend… Let's play pretend.” This song was slow, just like you expected it to be. You were gonna get Dash and dance, but you decided not to since you would probably end up kissing her and getting Braeburn’s attention off Rarity, so you just lightly swayed, “Remember the time, we had soda for wine… And got by on gratitude… The worst they could do to you, was check your attitude. Yeah, when fights were for fun, we had water in guns and a place we could call our own. How we lost hold of home, I guess I'll never know.” You thought of a plan, and carried it out. You walked over to Twilight and took her hand, much like you did with Dash. Except Twi wasn’t laughing, she was blushing. You twirled her and danced with her to the tune, hoping it wouldn’t change since you didn’t know the song.

“It would be nice… To start over again, before we were men. I'd give, I'd bend… Let's play pretend.”

The song continued on, and when Fluttershy was done singing, which was exactly one minute later, she opened her eyes. She squealed and hid behind her hair until everyone started clapping, before you did you had to let go of Twi's hand. So you did, clapping to encourage Fluttershy. You smiled as she looked around from behind her hair. You did great, Fluttershy.

And from behind her long, light pink hair... You could see a small smile forming.
