Ch.14

It was just another day at Sweet Apple acres and Tom, Big mac, and Applejack did what they did everyday, buck apples. They were in the western part of the orchard and they were well out of ear shot of each other. Applejack was kicking like she always did, it was more of a reflex really. As she kicked she thought of the apple pie granny Smith was cooking for them. As she thought of the pie she kicked out wrong, one of her legs hitting the tree funny. She heard a crack and felt a sharp pain in her right backleg.

She howled in pain. Horsefeathers! The dang things probably broken! She thought as she layed down on to a tree. After the pain subsighted a little he got up shakly to her feet, she had a long, painful walk to the farm, about a mile. Before she took 2 steps she heard something walking toward her, it was Tom." Hey Green eyes, I got some wa-" He looked her over, concern written all over her face. " You messed up your leg, looks broken. Hold still, I'm taking you to the hospitial."

Before she could say anything he carefully lifted her on his back, being sure not move her leg. Without another word he went off to the direction of the hospitial.

" Let me down ya variment, I can walk!"

" Nope, your just hurt yourself more."

" I'am fine!"

" Shut up. Your going to the hospitial Green eyes."

Applejack sighed, frustrated. She knew he was right. They left the farm in total silence, moving toward ponyville. Tom was making good process and Aj was bored out of her mind. She had just stared at Tom's back for the hundredth time. He was drenched in sweat, carring her was clearly straining him. The strangest thing was that his sweat smelled faintly like apples. He even smells like a Apple. He's a variment, but he sure as hay is a hard worker, an as stubborn as me.Applejack thought, unthinkingly tightening her grip around Tom.

" Tom?"

" Yep?"

" why are ya so nice to everypony?" Tom laughed

" I'm not nice Green eyes."

" But ya are so nice ta the cutiemark crusaders."

" I'm corrputing the youth."

" Because of you we were able to expand the farm."

" I wanted to make sure that I would have a job for a  long time."

" Yer helping me now."

" Brownie points from the boss."

" What about helping Rarity and Matt with their designs?"

" I got to make ponies look silly in cloths."

" Making Pinkie that cake for her birthday."

" I got to eat it too."

Despite herself, Applejack grinned. Moving herself comfortably in Tom's back, her head head on his shoulder.

" Buck ya Tom, yer a good pony."

" I'm not a pony."

Aj chuckled as they made it to the hopitial. Tom threatened to maim one of the doctors if Aj wasn't treated this second. As she was getting her case on Tom got into a fight with one of the nurses, getting stuck with that big needle that she always carried. After she was finished they left the hospitial, Tom grumbling about the nurses.She said that she was okay to walk now but Tom ignored her and put her right back on his back. The whole way she was concerned that her absence from the work would affect the farm.

" It's fine Green eyes, we can get Matt to get his fat ass up and help."

" But-"

" Shut up, the girls will help too, hell if all else fails then I'll spend all day picking apples. So just get ready to recover, your doing it for a few weeks."

When they got home Tom put her down on the couch and got the others to see her. They were all happy that she was okay and they even signed her cast. After dinner Tom had to help her shower, holding her cast in a bag and getting brenched in water. He later commented on how she, who like most ponies were naked the whole time, would get nervous in the shower.

After drying off she went to thank him but she couldn't find him anywhere in the house. She went to look outside, he usually slept outside instead of his own bed. She found him looking up at the sky, laying down on his favorite pillow. " Go lay back down Green eyes." Tom said, still looking up at the sky. She ignore him and layed down right next to him. " Why do ya sleep out here Tom?" She asked, he chuckled. " It's nice out here and Luna comes and demands that I scratch her ears. If I don't she might shout the farm down."

Applejack rolled her eyes. They both started at the sky for what seemed like hours.

" Tom?"

" Yep?"

" Matt told me about what happen ta ya parents, and I'm sorry. Do ya want ta talk about it?"

" ......Nope"

" Ya know my parents were killed by timberwolves right after Applebloom was born, Me and Mac, as young as we were, had ta go out everyday and buck our hearts out ta keep the farm." Applejack had tears in her eyes, Tom rolled over and looked over to her, his eyes filled with pity.

" I'm sorry Green eyes."

" Thank ya."

"......*sigh* My mom was killed by lightening, it happened right in front of me and my dad. I saw her eyes melt Green eyes, eyes just like mine. Thats why I hate my eyes, everytime I look at them I remember her with no eyes.... the smell of her roasted flesh." Aj gasped, her parents death was hard on her, she couldn't imagine how she would of felt if she would of seen it. Tom's voice sounded pained.

" My dad lost it, he drank himself to death not 2 years later. I had no other family so I was thrown in a orphanage. I had no one until i got Matt then you guys." he looked at her with tears in his eyes. She moved over to him and gave him a hug. they hugged for a long time, each remembering the pain of their losses.

" Alright thats enough self pity." Tom said, getting up and grabbing Aj." Come on it's time to get you to bed. He carried her to her bed. " Goodnight Tom" She said, giving him a peck on the cheek, Tom grinned." Watch it Applejack, I have work tomorrow, rutting you would make me lose sleep." As he left the room Aj realized something. " Tom" She called before he got to the door. " Yes?" " You called me Applejack, not Green eyes." Tom looked at her and snorted, shaking his head as he closed the door at a grinning Applejack......
