Hero of the Despaired Future!
Chapter 4: First Day of School! A Familiar Face?
Previous Chapter Next ChapterWell, first day.
Gohan had already ate a massive breakfast, so he was about to leave.
He was just getting ready...
He happened to have a mirror in his room.
He was making sure his hair was regular...
His gi wasn't torn or dirty...
"I am ready to go!" He said to himself.
Motivation!
Then his mother came into the room...
With a huge lunch wrapped in blue.
Also, a black book bag.
It was at least 60% her size...
"Alright, Gohan. I have your lun... Oh, no..." Chi Chi said.
"What's wrong, mom?" Gohan asked.
"You're not really going to school in that, are you?" Chi Chi asked.
"What? Of course! I look just like dad in this gi!" Gohan said.
"Yes, and I'm glad you want to be like your father, but you shouldn't wear it." Chi Chi said.
"What do you mean I shouldn't wear the gi!?" Gohan asked.
"Gohan, you'd look like a thug!" Chi Chi said.
"What do you mean? As long as I don't bother anyone they won't think so!" Gohan complained.
"I don't care! I don't want anyone thinking my son is a delinquent!" Chi Chi said.
"What!? This is my treasure! And who cares about what others think about this?" Gohan asked.
"Dad used to wear a gi wherever he went!" He said.
"Well, Goku wasn't a well-mannered individual like you should be!" Chi Chi said.
"But mom...! It's just an outfit! If others don't like it, I'll take it off!" Gohan said.
Chi Chi sighed.
"Fine... Now the next thing is, you can't show off your powers." She said.
"Well, obviously. I'm going to suppress myself as much as I can!" Gohan said.
"Good. Also, don't give any indication whatsoever that you have them either!" Chi Chi said.
"I know. I'll try to keep details like the house confidential." Gohan said.
"Perfect. Now, here's your lunch." Chi Chi said, holding out the giant lunch...
It was at least 40% the size of his body...
"It should last you until dinner." She said.
Gohan held it with one hand at his side...
"I just hope this'll fit somewhere..." He said.
"And here's your schoolbag." Chi Chi said, handing the bookbag to Gohan.
"Er... Okay." Gohan said, taking it.
He didn't put it around his shoulders yet.
"Oh, I almost forgot... Your lock for your locker." Chi Chi said.
She handed that over to him...
"The locker number is 42. The combination is 23, 33, and 23." She said.
"Got it." Gohan said, putting that in the schoolbag.
He put the straps on his shoulders now.
"Also, I checked your admissions test!" Chi Chi said angrily.
'The one thing I didn't want her to see...' Gohan thought.
"How could you only get a 94 average!?" She yelled.
Gohan cowered and sweated...
"But mom... I haven't studied in 13 years! I only had a day for studying...!" He said.
"No excuses! I expect 100s when I get your report cards!" Chi Chi said.
"O-Okay..." Gohan said.
"Now off you go." Chi Chi said calmly, pointing at his door.
"Y-Yes mother..." Gohan said, taking his lunch with one hand.
The two went outside...
The Flying Nimbus was just parked by the door.
It was given to Gohan as a final keepsake by his father...
He had a pure heart, so he was able to ride it...
He jumped and sat on top.
"Make sure nobody sees this, Gohan." Chi Chi said.
"I know, I know. I'll get off about a few miles away." Gohan said.
"Good." Chi Chi said.
As Gohan flew away, Chi Chi waved...
"Bye Gohan! Be sure to make friends, and remember that you have a 7:00 curfew for dinner!" Chi Chi called.
"Alright mom! Bye!" Gohan called.
Now Gohan flew through the skies at top speed...
'Maybe mom was right... I kinda look weird... But I want to be like Dad!' He thought.
'Let's just hope nobody looks at me strangely...' He thought.
Gohan approached the school...
So he had to hide his powers.
He was on the border of the city Canterlot...
He found a tall building to get off the Nimbus.
As he jumped off, Gohan patted the Nimbus twice, and then it flew off, leaving a very faint yellow streak.
The streak disappeared in an instant.
"Okay, now to get down to the ground..." Gohan said to himself.
He jumped down into the alleyway.
Nobody noticed this at all, so...
He moved out to the sidewalk...
Nobody noticed him, so he mentally cheered for himself.
'Success! Keep it going...' He thought.
He quickly walked towards the school.
'I should be about a mile away, so...' He thought.
'I probably should've brought a watch.' He thought.
Once Gohan finally got close, he slowed it down a little bit.
Eventually, he made it to school.
He wanted to look around and admire the scenery a bit.
The first thing he saw was the Wondercolts Statue.
'I wonder who made that.' Gohan thought.
Next, the entrance.
The doors to the entrance were wide open, with a huge sign above saying:
WELCOME BACK
In red and blue.
Now that he was close, he slowed his walking...
Gohan thought the school was very lively...
As he looked around, he saw some students playing instruments, some were just chatting, some were reading and so on.
Everyone seemed happy, and it seemed like a place where nothing could go wrong...
If only he knew...
He was just going towards the entrance, with that giant lunch at his side...
A few people looked at Gohan because of said lunch.
Everyone else had at least another tiny bag or an instrument, but Gohan had this huge package.
Also he donned a gi, so...
...But he paid no mind to them.
He could feel their stares, yet he didn't care.
They looked away after a few seconds anyway.
He entered the school, and at first glance, he saw the trophy collection.
He stopped at the entrance...
A few students were already inside.
He took a deep breath and kept walking...
He was going to his locker.
Fluttershy was walking to school...
Green backpack filled with tiny critters...
She was still shaken up by the fact that she nearly died at the hands of the Androids...
She stresses out over it every single day...
But she's so grateful to be alive...
All thanks to the mysterious man who saved her...
She wondered about his current whereabouts.
She feared that he died at the Androids' hands...
...But thought against it.
He managed to kick the first one into a building, and it collapsed on top of him, so...
Since then, Fluttershy had always wanted to meet him.
I mean, it'd be amazing to meet your hero.
However, she had no clue as to who he was...
All she had was that he had a gi and was blond.
Also that he could kick an android into a building and make said building fall on top of him.
Plus a fiery aura.
Nothing else...
Not even a name.
And all that previous stuff is very random and rare.
She ended up sighing.
"I never got the chance to thank him... Oh well." She muttered to herself.
Fluttershy approached the school, and went in front of the Wondercolts Statue.
Since it was Wednesday...
She put her bag down, unzipped it, and pulled out a bunch of flyers...
'I don't even know why I do this anymore. Nobody wants to do it anyway.' She thought.
'I don't have Rainbow Dash to sound more enthusiastic than me anymore either...' She thought.
In the hallway...
"41... 42. There." Gohan muttered.
He was at the locker...
It was a tall one, not a half of one.
Opening it, it had nothing inside.
"Okay, can my lunch fit in this...?" He said to himself.
Well...
It fits.
But...
"Why is it taking up half of the locker?" Gohan asked.
He sighed, accepting it.
He put his schoolbag on the ground, and unzipped it.
He pulled out a schedule for Monday-Friday.
"Okay, so today's Wednesday... Homeroom is on this floor... Room 8. I wonder where it is." He said to himself.
"Well, I don't have language today... So, that textbook goes in the locker." He said, putting said textbook in the locker.
He closed it, and unlocked his lock.
Circle 23 three times to the right, circle 13 one time to the left, and go back to 23, then...
Click.
Then he locked the locker...
Click.
"Okay... Now to find room 8." He said to himself.
He put his bag on his shoulders...
Then he started walking down the hall, back to the entrance.
'I'm guessing it should be this way if room 10 was back there...' He thought, looking only at the sides of the hallway.
'I probably should've asked mom for some sort of ma- What? It's only 7:30!?' He thought.
Apparently there was a clock in the hall, right around the ceiling.
'Homeroom is 8:10... So I might as well socialize. I should make some friends.' Gohan thought.
He started heading outside...
He passed the trophy collection, and now he was outside again.
Everyone was still there.
'Now, who can I speak with...' He thought.
He scanned the area and came to the conclusion of-
'I'm just noticing now that the people here have weird skin colors. I thought you needed some methemoglobinemia to get blue skin, but I don't know about these other skin colors! There's even pink and pure white! There's a lot of different shades and colors, how does one do that?' Gohan thought.
'Well, the king of the world was a dog, and there are anthropomorphic animals on this Earth, so what should I expect?' He thought.
He saw a band group, and he had no experience with that, so...
Next group was the nerds.
Glasses and everything.
They also had their phones out.
Perhaps this could work...?
'Let's hear their conversation...' He thought.
Gohan got somewhat close to hear their conversation...
"I'm trying to play this game, but this one player keeps kicking my ass."
"Is it TheLegend27?"
'I have no idea what they're talking about, I'm out.' Gohan thought.
He walked away, then he noticed the athletes...
Football captain, softball captain, yadda yadda.
...But he didn't want anything to do with that at this time of peace.
'It's been 13 years since I've managed to catch a break, so no thanks.' He thought.
'...But I guess a week of doing nothing isn't healthy. I'll train with my own goals later.' He thought.
Then he saw the fashionis-
"No." He said to himself, looking another way.
Then he saw the eco-kids...
A bunch of hippies.
Green hair, peace sign necklaces...
Recycled products...
'I don't know if I like this either. No judging...' He thought.
He couldn't find anything to like.
He started walking around again, trying to find anything more interesting than anything else here.
But everything was just not good enough for him.
Then, as luck would have it...
He heard this tiny voice...
"Canterlot's animal shelter needs more volunteers. Won't you help an animal that can't help itself?"
Well, he looked towards the Wondercolts statue...
A pink haired girl who seemingly gave up at her job.
...Which was asking for more volunteers while handing out flyers.
The girl was Fluttershy...
She ended up sitting down in front of the statue, covering her face...
She put the flyers beside her.
...
...Gohan walked towards Fluttershy...
He stood in front of her, and-
"Hello." He said.
Fluttershy looked up, having tearful eyes.
But then she mentally gasped.
She looked very surprised, too...
'Looks like she was crying...' Gohan thought.
"Er... I'm interested in volunteering for the animal shelter today..." He said, scratching the back of his head.
'It's worth my time compared to anything else... I actually like animals.' He thought.
It's been a while since he talked to strangers...
Fluttershy was still mentally hyperventilating.
The person in front of her looked exactly like the person who saved her...
He even sounded like him...
...The problem is, he didn't have blond hair.
"A-Are you alright?" Gohan asked.
Fluttershy snapped out of her trance...
"O-Oh, I'm okay..." She said.
Gohan held his hand out to help her stand up...
Fluttershy took his hand, and then wiped her tears with her arm.
"Did you just say you wanted to volunteer...?" She asked.
"Um... Yeah. Is that a problem...?" Gohan asked.
"Oh, no, it isn't... It's just that... Nobody ever volunteers with me..." Fluttershy said, looking down.
"Oh... Well, I'm willing to help..." Gohan said.
"T-Thank you..." Fluttershy said, looking up at him and smiling.
She's like, 5'6" or 7" while he's 5'11"...
'Is he really the same person...?' She thought.
"How long is the volunteering until?" Gohan asked.
"Only 5:00..." Fluttershy said.
"Okay, thanks... What's your name?" Gohan asked.
Fluttershy let her shyness and pessimism take over...
"I-I'm..." She said, dying down...
"Fluttershy..."
She was pretty sure he couldn't hear her...
"Fluttershy? Nice to meet you, I'm Son Gohan." Gohan said, holding a hand out.
"But you can just call me Gohan." He added.
Fluttershy was a bit surprised that he could hear her...
He didn't seem like he recognized her, though.
"Y-You heard me...?" She asked.
"Well, yeah. I thought it was a little silent, but I can hear you perfectly fine." Gohan said.
Fluttershy slowly stuck her hand out and shook his hand...
...
"Oh, uh, do you happen to know where room 8 is...?" Gohan asked.
"Room 8?" Fluttershy asked.
"That's my homeroom..." She said.
"Oh! Cool. Can you take me there? I'm a transfer student..." Gohan said.
"Okay... It's a little too early to go, though." Fluttershy said.
"Yeah, that's why I came outside..." Gohan said.
"Oh... What grade are you in?" Fluttershy asked.
"11th. What about you?" Gohan asked.
"I'm in the same grade..." Fluttershy said.
"Really? That's cool." Gohan said.
'He doesn't recognize me... I think... I don't know if he is or isn't the person.' Fluttershy thought.
Gohan reached down for her flyers on the ground and picked it up.
"I'm really new to Canterlot, so can you take me to the animal shelter after school?" He asked.
"I'd be happy to..." Fluttershy said, taking the flyers.
"Great, great... I don't have a map of the city, so..." Gohan said.
"Do you have a phone?" Fluttershy asked, putting the flyers away.
"A telephone? I mean, there's one at my house..." Gohan said.
"No, I mean a smartphone... Like this?" Fluttershy asked, pulling out her own phone.
It had a touch screen and everything.
"Oh. I don't own one of those, I don't feel like I need or want it." Gohan said.
"Really? Everyone at CHS has a phone..." Fluttershy said.
"Of course, because of the Androids, everyone who had an Android phone replaced it." She said.
'The Androids... I shouldn't talk about them.' Gohan thought.
"I've never really used one... Can I see yours?" He asked.
"Oh, here... Please don't judge the wallpaper." Fluttershy said, handing her pink phone over to him.
"How would you fit wallpaper on this tiny thing?" Gohan asked, holding the phone.
It was 3/4ths size of his hand...
Fluttershy giggled.
"No, silly... The background picture is known as a wallpaper on a phone." She said.
"Oh. My bad." Gohan said.
He looked at the phone...
He pressed a button on the side...
Then the phone turned on, showing the time and a picture of a bunny.
"...That's a cute bunny." Gohan said.
"It's my pet, Angel." Fluttershy said.
"What exactly do you do on this thing? Other than make calls, of course." Gohan said.
"You can check social media, browse the internet and play games..." Fluttershy said.
"Oh." Gohan said.
'What's social media? I know the internet...' He thought.
"Well, thanks for showing it to me." Gohan said, holding her phone out to her.
Fluttershy took it back.
"You're welcome..." She said.
Then she had to ask...
"You said you were a transfer student, right?" She asked.
"Yeah." Gohan said.
"What school did you transfer from?" Fluttershy asked.
"Oh, no, I was homeschooled. My mother gave me tutors until I was finally able to understand things by myself." Gohan said.
"Oh... How well did you do on your admissions test?" Fluttershy asked.
"Well, I had a 94 average..." Gohan said completely normally.
Actually, he sounded a little unhappy with the grade.
'He got a good grade! Why does he sound sad!?' Fluttershy thought.
She looked very impressed.
"You were a freshman when you took the test, right? Or, becoming one?" Gohan asked.
"Yep... High school placement exam..." Fluttershy said.
"You did amazing... I managed to get a 90..." She said.
"Nice job. I technically took the test later, so I had more time... My mother isn't happy about my grade, she expected a 100..." Gohan said.
"Oh... You're pretty smart, though." Fluttershy said.
"I don't know... I wouldn't call myself smart. I don't really know much about modern technology, and I'm a bit rusty." Gohan said.
"That's okay... I don't care if you don't know about a smartphone." Fluttershy said.
"Ah... Thanks." Gohan said.
'I need to know if he's really the one who saved me...' Fluttershy thought.
"Um... Gohan." She said.
"Yes?" Gohan asked.
"Did you happen to... Fly here...?" Fluttershy asked.
She was spot on...
"N-No, I took transit." Gohan lied.
"Oh... Nevermind." Fluttershy said.
'Asking if he can change his hair color is really stupid, asking if he could fly to begin with is even dumber, and asking if he could make fiery aura appear from his body is even worse. It's just not him.' She thought.
...Wow.
'...But I don't care. Even though he isn't the same person, it's okay. He's very kind...' She thought.
"Would... Would you like to be friends?" Fluttershy asked.
"Sure." Gohan said.
"Oh... That's great!" Fluttershy said happily.
'I finally have a friend again!' She thought.
Now all the students were gathering inside the school.
"Looks like homeroom is starting..." She said.
"Let's go. I'm completely lost." Gohan said with a smile.
Fluttershy quietly giggled behind her hand.
"But you're not clueless." She said.
"I really hope not." Gohan said, looking worried.
The two started walking towards the crowded entrance.
Well, it seems that Gohan doesn't recognize Fluttershy in the slightest.
What'll happen next?
How will his day go?
Will Gohan tell others about defeating the Androids?
Or about himself in general?
Will Fluttershy figure out the truth about Gohan?
Will Gohan manage to fit in with his strange background?
