Chapter 100: Forgotten Friendship Pt. 5

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

After a long time of searching...

Jesus Christ, this is taking forever.

Sunset yawned.

She closed a giant ass book.

"Ugh... Did you know Chancellor Puddinghead tried to pass a law mandating Earth ponies drink carrot juice at every meal...? I do. Know that... Now." She said, clearly unenthusiastic.

She was definitely tired.

Gohan was reading another book.

"I think we learned that in class once, but I think Puddinghead banned sodas too." He said.

He was still pretty interested in the books...

"Now I know that martial arts was banned in the 3rd century..." He added excitedly.

This was helping to relieve stress.

"Aww... Sounds like you two read the fun books!" Twilight said, still excited.

...But she was tired too, so she yawned.

Sunset sighed in relief.

"Aww... I was just learning about the reasoning behind the ban." Gohan said.

"Well... I found something!" Twilight said excitedly.

"Oh, good." Gohan said.

Then Twilight brought a chest out from nowhere.

"You're familiar with the 'Seven Trials of Clover the Clever,' right?" She asked.

"Obviously." Both Gohan and Sunset said.

"But why?" Sunset asked.

Twilight opened the chest and it had a bunch of cobwebs.

But she pulled out a scroll.

"Well, first of all, these date back to before the founding of Equestria. Look at this." She said.

Reading it...

"The 'Memory Stone...'" Sunset said.

"I'd be willing to guess that's our problem here." Gohan said.

"It belonged to an evil sorceress that was practically invincible! With the memory stone, she could erase any memory from anypony. Even fragments of memories." Twilight said.

"Fragments like... Memories of me being nice?" Sunset asked.

"And me not existing... At all?" Gohan asked.

"Yep. Clover the Clever knew the sorceress had to be stopped and the memory stone destroyed, so he chased her across land and sea. But every time he got close, the sorceress would erase his memory and escape. But he kept finding her." Twilight said.

"How?" Sunset asked.

"These scraps of parchment. He secretly wrote everything down, and where to go next! Like a trail of bread crumbs." Twilight said.

"I'm still having trouble as to why I'm not affected at all, even though I was there." Gohan said.

"Maybe you're too strong for it. Magic doesn't affect you so much because of your strength." Twilight said.

"It is true your magic doesn't work..." Gohan said.

"What happened on the other side of this portal?" Sunset asked, moving the scroll.

Then the rest was just ripped off.

"Dang. It's missing." Gohan said.

"Clover must've hid it to keep anypony else from finding the memory stone!" Twilight said.

"That's clever..." Gohan said.

Then Sunset saw that...

"Clover the- Yeah, whatever." She said, no longer excited.

"What if the memory stone ended up in the Other World?" Twilight asked.

"Don't you mean the Mirror World?" Gohan asked.

"What's the difference?" Twilight asked.

"Afterlife and a new dimension." Gohan said.

"Oh, right." Twilight said.

"What?" Sunset asked.

"This guy's been to hell just to fight a monster, he knows what he's talking about." Twilight said.

"Why do you have to tell others about that...?" Gohan asked.

"I'm really starting to be glad we aren't enemies." Sunset said.

"Back to the point... I don't know anyone who would want revenge on you, do you?" Twilight asked.

Sunset shook her head.

"Your memory wasn't altered, what about you?" She asked Gohan.

"I really don't know, you used to get along with everyone at CHS." Gohan said.

"You have to think of someone that despises me..." Sunset said.

"...I really can't." Gohan said.

"...Huh." Sunset said.

"We might as well try to convince our friends that their minds are being screwed with." She said.

"I doubt they'd believe us from just this excerpt." Gohan said.

"Why wouldn't they?" Sunset asked.

"Yeah, why wouldn't they?" Twilight asked.

"Is this scroll all we're going to show?" Gohan asked.

"Yeah." Sunset said.

...

"...You know they'll just call it fake, right?" Gohan asked.

"That... I... Crapbaskets." Sunset said.

"Oh, you say that too, even when your memory's screwed with." Gohan said.

"Maybe I should write a note?" Twilight asked.

"They'll do the same thing." Gohan said.

"I wanted to keep reading, ugh!" Twilight said.

"Ugh, it doesn't help that they don't remember me..." Gohan said.

"I mean, I also have photos on my phone, so... Let's try...?" Sunset asked.

"Meh. Try for a zeni, we'll see how it goes." Gohan said.

"What's a zeni?" Sunset asked.

"...This is starting to get really annoying." Gohan said.

"Ugh, tell me about it." Sunset said.

"Oh, this is just the icing on the cake. There's more to this monster that loves to screw with me." Gohan said.

Twilight felt bad for Gohan now...

***

"Well, it's a good thing we found this other beach three towns over...!" Twilight said.

That's exactly where they were.

They already set up again, since it had been...

Three... Maybe three and a half hours?

"Yes, the previous incident didn't make it a cakewalk..." Rarity said, giving herself a tan.

But for some fucking reason, she's the whitest person on the planet no mater what.

Anyway...

"Yeah! We've been out here for a while! Time to reapply!" Pinkie said cheerfully.

She rubbed a cupcake all over her arms and face...

Because it had edible sunscreen.

Why does that exist?

Then she ran off.

...

"...I've been thinking..." Twilight said.

"Should we be worried about Sunset Shimmer?" She asked.

"Uh, duh!" A familiar voice said out of screen.

Now that she's in screen, it's Trixie, also trying to get a tan.

But remains as cyan as ever.

"Worried she comes here! I was there at the other beach. I think it's a shame the way she's been treating you. First pretending to be your friend, then fighting you..." Trixie said.

"I'm sure the fighting was our fault..." Twilight said.

"Please. She's obviously up to something. Sunset thinks the whole school exists just to serve her." Trixie said.

Now that we see the rest of the screen...

Snips was fanning her with a giant leaf...

Then Trixie snapped her fingers.

"Water, please!" She demanded.

Then Snails came in with a bottle of water, pouring some into her mouth.

...Even the girls notice the irony.

"You know, seeing as how the yearbook president seems to be having a little identity crisis, I believe that means the Vice President takes over. And, why..." Trixie said.

"You don't even need to finish that last sentence." Rarity said.

"If this is your way of asking to be made 'The Greatest and Most Powerful,' the answer is no." She said.

"Pfft. Whatever. I ask of it, and that's all." Trixie said.

"Ugh, I'll think about it." Rarity said.

"Thank you." Trixie said.

***

The portal to the Mirror World...

Now Sunset is human again.

"You know, I was expecting to see a pony version of you." She said.

"See, again, if you remembered me, you'd know all these obvious things." Gohan said.

"How many obvious things, exactly?" Sunset asked.

Gohan put ten fingers up...

And also his tail.

"More than this." He said.

"H-Hold on, since when did you have a tail!?" Sunset asked, shocked.

"Please, don't make me repeat myself..." Gohan said, putting everything down.

"Can you just explain the tail, then?" Sunset asked.

"It just popped out of nowhere, okay? I know I had one when I was a toddler, but someone yanked it out. It just came out of nowhere again, my endangered race had these." Gohan said.

"Uh... Huh." Sunset said, confused.

"Look, let's just go to our friends already." Gohan said.

"I can sense them in that direction... Probably another beach." He said, pointing a finger.

"How do yo- Nevermind." Sunset said.

"Short answer to the next question, no, it isn't magic." Gohan said.

"Huh." Sunset said.

"Now, let's go!" Gohan said, jumping up, flying for a moment.

He flew forward until he realized Sunset was not following him.

He turned around.

"Sunset? Aren't you coming?" He asked.

"I can't fly." Sunset said.

"What? How d- Ugh..." Gohan said, flying down to the ground again.

"Do you want me to teleport us or fly us... I can do both." He said.

'This is just getting worse and worse, ugh!' He thought.

"Well... I guess I would enjoy the scenic route..." Sunset said.

"Then flying it is..." Gohan said.

He walked up to Sunset.

Then he flew two centimeters off the ground.

Then he made himself horizontal, so he was like a platform.

He aimed his hands, or fists forward.

"Get on..." He muttered, clearly a bit annoyed.

Not at the flight, just the other things in general.

"Er... Should I just...?" Sunset asked.

"Just sit on my smaller lower back, don't you touch my tail." Gohan said.

"Okay." Sunset said, doing just that.

This looks a bit suggestive, but don't you think of that stuff.

"Okay, here we go..." Gohan said, slowly moving upwards.

'Did she get heavier? Did she ga- Oh, no, it's me, I've gotten weaker.' He thought.

"Did you say something?" Sunset asked.

"Huh? No." Gohan said.

"I thought you said something about me being heavier. As if I gained weight." Sunset said, looking mildly annoyed.

"I'm assuming you heard my thoughts, so let me clarify... Recently, I've been feeling a bit down, so I took a break from training, and I got weaker. I thought it was you, but clearly not." Gohan said.

"Oh, okay..." Sunset said.

Now they were at about 90 feet in the air.

Sunset felt disoriented and scared of the height...

So she clung on to his shirt.

"I-It's a bit scary..." She said.

"Don't worry, as long as you keep riding me, you'll feel great about it in a bit." Gohan said.

...

...Sunset had a mildly disgusted face on.

Gohan could not see it, but the awkward silence made him scared.

'Did I say something weird?' He thought.

"Yes, yes you did." Sunset said.

"What did I say...?" Gohan asked.

"Riding you? Seriously?" Sunset asked, annoyed at the unintentional sexual metaphor.

"What's wrong with that? I'm your ride over to the beach." Gohan said.

"No, it has another meaning!" Sunset said.

"I could not imagine another meaning for the verb 'ride.'" Gohan said.

"Are you innocent or something?" Sunset asked.

"In what sense?" Gohan asked.

"I give up. Let's just go." Sunset said.

'Either he's playing a prank on me, or he's genuinely innocent.' She thought.

"I'm being literal, here, I don't take words metaphorically." He said.

Now Gohan started flying forwards.

At a reasonable pace of 20 miles per hour...

...

"...Well, Canterlot looks wonderful from above." Sunset said, trying to start a conversation.

"Yes, it does." Gohan said, ending it.

...

More silence.

...

***

Cool, they're playing volleyball...

Rainbow Dash and Rarity versus Pinkie and Fluttershy.

"I'm not holding back this time!" Rainbow Dash yelled, holding the ball.

She's like an anime character...

"That's what I'm afraid of..." Fluttershy said, trembling.

"Bring it on, Rainbow Dash!" Pinkie yelled.

She pulled down on the net...

"You and Rarity just bought your team a one way ticket on the express train to 'You're Going DOWN!'" She yelled, having a mean face.

Ginyu Force's Bizarre Adventure

"Ooh! Nice game face, Pinkie Pie!" Rainbow Dash said.

"Thanks! I've been practicing all day!" Pinkie said, suddenly losing the face.

She grabbed Giru, who trembled in fear of the picture taking.

"Isn't that right, Giru!? You're in MY house now!" She yelled into his camera.

"Giru! Giru!" Giru said, opening a compartment for a fucking machine gun.

"Dah!" Pinkie yelped, throwing him aside.

"No more pictures! Giru!" Giru said.

He was clearly trying to cry, but he can't.

"Now, when did ya put that in?" Applejack asked.

"I never did, it was always a part of him." Twilight said.

"Oh well. Game on!" Rainbow Dash yelled, hitting the ball.

Fluttershy being Fluttershy, she shielded her head with her hands, so it bounced off.

Pinkie saved the ball by smacking it into the net, but she saved it again by smacking it over the net this time.

Rainbow Dash tried to get the ball, but since she didn't activate her super speed...

She missed.

And she fell on her back.

Then Gohan came...

For some reason, giving Sunset a piggyback ride.

She got off instantly, brushing herself off.

"Great news, guys! I figured it out!" She said.

The rest of the Humane 7 just looked at her funny, and Rainbow Dash got up.

"Someone's erased yours and my memory with Equestrian magic! You don't remember, but we're still friends!" Sunset said.

"Why were you on his back...?" Twilight asked.

"Ugh, it got stupid after the first twenty seconds." Gohan said.

He looked a bit grumpy.

"How so...?" Rarity asked.

***

In the air...

"Did you do this stuff with us before?" Sunset asked.

"Only once, but just so you all could make it to the Battle of the Bands." Gohan said.

"Really? I don't remember any of tha- Oh, crap, Canadian goose!" Sunset said.

"What?" Gohan asked, looking ahead.

There was a goose flying...

"Look out, eh!" He said casually.

"Wait, since when did geese talk-" Gohan asked, before the goose squawked as it hit Sunset.

The goose was flapping and spazzing out all over Sunset's face, bothering the fuck outta her.

Sunset let go of Gohan to try and get the goose off her face...

"Gah! Son of a- Get off me!" She yelled.

But she tried a bit too much and ended up falling off Gohan.

She started screaming in fear of becoming a tomato.

The goose flew off, though.

She even closed her eyes.

"Crapbaskets...!" Gohan said, darting down for her.

'I'll just catch her and- No, that's a little too forward, just catch her with your back.' He thought.

Suddenly, Sunset stopped falling...

She wrapped her arms around something warm...

Something like a neck.

I mean, a neck.

Once she actually opened her eyes, she realized she was hugging his neck.

She was slanting on his back.

"Are you okay?" Gohan asked.

Sunset still panicked, slightly yelling and kicking her feet.

Gohan sighed as he grabbed the back of her knees.

So now it's a piggyback ride.

She blushed.

"Don't worry, I won't let you fall." Gohan said.

"Y-You promise?" Sunset asked.

"Yes, Sunset, I promise." Gohan said with a reassuring smile.

Of course, Sunset only saw like 30% of it.

"Okay, I'm trusting you..." She said.

'It feels weird...' She thought.

***

...

"That was..." Pinkie said.

"Strange...?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"You're telling me." Gohan said, crossing his arms.

...

"...Anyway..." Sunset said, reaching into her bag.

She pulled out a fucking picture of the memory stone...

"This is the memory stone. Do you recognize it...?" She asked.

Nobody seemed to be buying it.

"I'll handle it..." Gohan said, taking the paper.

"We went to the Pony World to see Princess Twilight about the issue. After a few hours of research, we concluded that someone must've used the memory stone. It's magic at play, and it messed with all of your memories. Even Sunset's, because you all happened to forget about me, and she forgot how to fly all of a sudden." Gohan explained.

...

"Look..." Sunset said, pulling out her phone.

She showed her photos with the keyboard covering half the screen.

Friendship photos...

Aww...

"See? This is proof! We are friends! And- Holy..." She said, actually looking at one of the photos.

She didn't show this one, but...

It was a selfie of cuddling?

With Gohan?

"I do not remember this photo in the slightest." She said.

"What photo?" Gohan asked.

"Nevermind." Sunset said, changing the photo.

"Eh... I'm not really buying into this." Rarity said.

"Please." Trixie said.

Now the attention was turned to her...

With Snips and Snails carrying her shit for her.

"This is the same girl who made flawless fake photos of your friend trashing the gym!" Trixie said.

"Yeah, wait a minute!" Pinkie said, taking the phone.

The photo was a photo of Pinkie making a stupid face.

"Is THIS supposed to be me making such a ridiculous face? Ha! I'd never fake a face like THAT!" She said, making the same exact stupid damn face.

"Preposterous! Fake, I say!" She said.

"You're just saying that to appeal to what you want to believe in!" Gohan said.

"And you just made that face a few seconds ago!" He added.

"Nuh uh!" Pinkie taunted.

Gohan grunted loudly in frustration.

He was pretty pissed, and he ended up raising his tail in annoyance.

Now everyone was looking at the tail...

"Oh, not this again!" Gohan said.

"Is that a tail?" Twilight asked.

"Before you even ask, no, you cannot study it! It's mine!" Gohan said, hugging his tail.

"Aw..." Twilight said, looking down.

"Since when does a boy have a tail, exactly...?" Applejack asked.

"I don't want to explain this again, you know this stuff! But some freaking jerk decided to mess with your memories just to make me mad!" Gohan yelled.

Clearly pissed.

"Jeez, calm down!" Rainbow Dash said.

"No, why don't you believe us and try to help us solve this problem!? I've lost my bestest of friends, and you don't even remember me existing!" Gohan yelled.

"Seriously, veins are poking out of your head." Sunset said.

Gohan tried taking a deep breath.

"My work here is done." Trixie said, walking away with her goons.

"And don't forget, Rarity, you promised to put me in the yearbook!" She said.

"You did what!?" Sunset asked.

"I only said I would consider it!" Rarity said.

"This is getting to be pointless..." Gohan muttered.

"Look, do you believe us or not!?" He asked.

"Nah..." Pretty much everyone said.

Gohan tried finding his peace, but this whole thing just pissed him off.

"UGH! I can't take this anymore!" He yelled, grabbing his hair.

"I think you need to calm down." Rainbow Dash said.

Gohan growled...

"Would you please excuse me for a quick moment...!?" He asked, forcing a small voice.

"Uh..." Everyone said.

Then Gohan just teleported.

...

"What is happening...?" Fluttershy asked.

Then everyone could hear very faint and subtle screaming.

And honestly, a giant but very faint aura from far away.

Out to sea...

Everyone could hear it.

"What is he doing...?" Twilight asked.

"I think he's screaming at the top of his lungs." Sunset said.

"Giru! Power level is beyond nine thousand... Cubed!" Giru said.

"How do you know that!?" Twilight asked.

"Dr. Myuu programmed power level recognition software! Giru! Example! Twilight Sparkle - Power Level is 17,500!" Giru said.

"Who's Dr. Myuu?" Twilight asked.

"Giru? Memory missing! Giru!" Giru said.

"Huh... That's weird." Twilight said.

"What's that kid's level?" Pinkie asked, pointing at the screaming across the horizon.

"G-Giru afraid Giru might break! Giru! Estimation between 5 trillion and 21 trillion!" Giru said.

"Jeez!" Rainbow Dash said.

The screaming continued...

"Giru! Signs of holding back! Giru!" Giru said.

"Oh, come on! That's too much!" Pinkie said.

"The lungs on that boy..." Rarity said.

"I'm just as surprised as the rest of you." Sunset said.

...

Still going...

Don't worry, Gohan's just relieving stress this way.

With Goten, his dad and this fucking crock of shit, you need to give him a break.

Anyway...

The screaming started to die down...

The aura was gone...

And...

Gohan popped back into reality.

"I'm back..." He said, catching his breath.

"Are you done having a hissy fit?" Pinkie asked.

"If you mean relieving my stress, then yes, I am done." Gohan said.

"What kinds of stress would an eleven year old have anyway?" Rarity asked.

"Are you guys my psychologists or something!?" Gohan asked.

"No."

"Then do me a favor and stop!" He yelled.

...

He sighed.

"I'm sorry, I'm just going through a ton of stuff, and before I do something stupid, I'm going to leave." He said.

"If you want to come with me, you have to decide right now." He told Sunset.

"Uh... Okay... Are we going to fly or-"

Well, now they're gone.

...

"I'm completely confused." Twilight said.

"Anyone else agree?" She asked.

"Yes." Everyone said.

***

Back at the front of school...

"Are you okay...?" Sunset asked.

Gohan walked to one of the steps, sat down and stuffed his head into his knees.

'I've had enough of this bull...deification.' He thought.

Sunset felt bad...

'Is he going through something at home?' She thought.

So she ended up sitting right next to him.

"A-Are you okay?" She asked.

Gohan just took a deep and loud breath, muffled by his knees.

...

"I'm kinda worried about you..." Sunset said.

...

"...I understand." Gohan said.

...

"Well... It's just... It looks like you're taking a lot of... frustration." Sunset said.

...

"...You mentioned that your day was getting worse... And... you look and act grumpy... Well... How stressed are you?" She asked.

...

"First you're yelling at the top of your lungs..." She said, moving her hand.

She put her hand on his shoulder.

"And now you're..." She asked.

Gohan looked to the side, at Sunset...

...

"...Crying?"

Gohan was trying not to let out a few sobs, but it was too much.

You know, trying to contain those quick gasps.

Author's Notes:

Yeah, so...

My top priority is finishing those damn Season 3 edits because they're being a pain in my ass.

Expect it to be about a week before I get another one of these up.

Or, if I feel like it, I'll do another one tomorrow... But I wouldn't count on it.
