Mid-Day, December 19, 1948
Turkish-Soviet Border

The troop transport truck Rainbow Dash was in rumbled towards the border, the prearranged location for the spy swap. Rainbow Dash was wearing an insuppressible smile on her face. She was about to be free of the clutches of her tormentors and on her way home to Equestria.

The truck came to a stop and she was ushered out of the truck. Looking ahead, she saw that there was a pair of shacks straddling the border. At the shack that was 30 yards away from her was trio of ponies, one a unicorn the other an Earth pony. Standing between them was a blindfolded pegasus.
“Me and that pegasus must be the subject of a spy swap!” thought Rainbow Dash to herself, thinking back to a spy novel that she had borrowed from Twilight. “But why would a pegasus betray Equestria. How could anypony work for the humans as a spy?”
Rainbow Dash decided not to question things too hard and simply embrace the fact that she would soon be seeing her friends, who were so close to her she considered them essentially family.
Her pony compatriots removed the other pegasus’ blindfold and muttered something to her. Meanwhile, the Soviets removed the chains around Rainbow Dash’s hooves. As soon as the two prisoners were ready to be swapped. They began to walk towards each other.
Silently her and the opposing pegasus traded passing glances at each other. Looking at the other pegasus’ flank, she saw that her counterpart’s cutie mark was a pair of mask’s, one happy and the other sad. Was that an acting cutie mark? Or was it something more sinister, such as mastery of psychological manipulation? Rainbow Dash would have to find out the details surrounding the enemy spy that was being swapped for her freedom. However, that would have to wait until later.

“Hello, Ms. Dash, my name is Nurse Bleeding Heart,” said the unicorn. Pointing to her Earth pony counterpart, this is Colonel Buzz Cut of the Intelligence Division of the Equestrian Army.”
“Hello there,’ replied Rainbow Dash, uncertain of what to say in response. Venturing a response, she asked, “So what now? Do I catch a flight back to Equestria or what?”
Bleed Heart said, “First, we’ll need give you a medical examination. It looks like you sustained quite a few wounds”
Bleeding Heart pointed to Rainbow Dash’s bandaged right wing and her missing left wing. Reflexively, Rainbow Dash turned sideways, ineffectively trying to hide her missing appendage.
Realizing she had made things awkward, Bleeding Heart continued, “After that, my counterpart here will debrief you for any intelligence you may have gathered upon the Soviets as well as information about your treatment during your time in Soviet custody. After that we will hop a flight back to Equestria.”
“Finally,” thought Rainbow Dash to herself.
