10 Minutes Later,
Carrozza Dinner, New York City

Rainbow Dash and Rarity walked in through the front doors of the diner. It had been the first one that they had come across in their search. As soon as they stepped into line, they noticed that awkward stares that they were getting from restaurant patrons. The sight of horses eating in a human restaurant clearly struck a nerve with some of the patrons. However, none of them raised a fuss about it and continued to eat their lunch.

Rainbow Dash and Rarity glossed over the menu. The only items on their that they could stomach eating were French Fries (which really originated in Belgium) and a milkshake. Rainbow Dash had found out from Twilight that a hotdog was really made of pork or beef and not from actual dogs. Not that it made much of a difference in her opinion on the barbarity of the popular American snack.

Eventually the line ahead of them cleared out, providing them with the opportunity to place an order. However, they would never get the chance to do so.

“Hey beat horses! This isn’t a barn!” hollered the restaurant owner.

“We’re just here to purchase some lunch,” said Rarity, her gracefulness prevailing over here desire to buck the bigot in the mouth.

“I don’t care. Scram!”

Rainbow Dash, defensive as usual, shot up in the air and hovered in between her friend and the restaurant owner, her face just inches from his. “Back off buddy.”

“Read the sign, if you can: ‘We have the right to refuse service,’” snarled the man.

“Oh yeah!” said Rainbow Dash, steeling herself for a brawl.

“Woah there!,” said Rarity as she grabbed her friend by her rainbow colored tail.

“Hey let me go,” yelled Dashie as she swung at the man, his face just inches out of reach.

“There is no point in getting into a fight.” Turning to the man, Rarity said, “I’m sorry about my friend, she can get a bit emotional at times.”

“You ponyfags are lucky that I don’t call the cops. Just stay out of here next time,” said the man as Rarity dragged her convulsing friend out.

As soon as the two ponies were outside, Rarity let go of Rainbow Dash. “You’ve got to get a better hold of your emotions, darling.”

“I can’t believe that you took his side!”

“I didn’t. I’m just as angry as you are. The only difference is that I don’t intend on spending our vacation locked up in prison for assault and battery. Do you realize what you could have cost me? If I were in prison, I wouldn’t be able to attend my fashion show in two days and my attempts to break into human fashion would have been for naught.”
“I’m sorry Rarity.” said Rainbow Dash as she looked down at the ground, ashamed to look her friend in the face. “I wasn’t thinking.”
“That’s the source of most problems in life, isn’t it?” said Rarity, her cutting remarks doing little to ease Rainbow Dash’s shame.
Just as they were about to trot off to find another restaurant, a voice spoke from behind.
“Excuse me ladies, are you looking for a place to eat?”
Dashie and Rarity turned around, facing the human male that had spoke to them.
“Are you talking to us?” asked Rarity.
“Yes I am,” said the human. Rarity remembered him as the male that had been standing behind her and Rainbow Dash in line. “I saw everything that happened to you back there. I’m sorry that one of my own treated you gals so horridly.”
Rarity, sensing an opportunity to get a free meal, acted in the fashion that she knew best. Batting her eyelashes, she said, “I’m so glad that we could finally meet a gentleman in such a cold city.”
“Just doing what I can, ma’am.”
“Well, good sir, could you point us to some sort of restaurant.”
“There is a pancake house down the road and a pizza restaurant two blocks north.”
“Would you care to join us?” asked Rarity, flirtatiously.
The human, ignoring Rarity’s advances, said, “I’m sorry, I can’t. I was going to head on over to the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball game. If you guys want, we can go together. Seeing that you guys are tourists, I’m sure that you desperate to get a hold of American culture. Let’s just say that there is nothing more American than baseball.”
Rainbow Dash broke her silence, saying, “Sure thing! I’m always up for sports! You’ll have to tell us the rules of course, Mr….”
“My name is Robert Smith, but you can call me Bob.”
