Challenge of the Shadowbolts: Sweet Sweet Smallfoot
Chapter 5: Insecurity
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAuthor's Notes:
Oh, so many jokes, so many innuendos... Smallfoot has become the butt of Lemon Zest's innuendos.. what am I doing with my life? What is wrong with me? And I thought Lemon Zest was crazy.
Smallfoot led the group of Guardians into the city as they traveled down the road going on their way to find the building belonging to Guardian Professor Baron Von Joy, one of the smartest Gobot scientists they had. All they had to do was find his building and they could begin.
Smallfoot drove faster than everyone else, and everyone was having a hard time catching up with her. They weren't even sure if she was either in a hurry or mad because Lemon made another inappropriate joke. And during the car rides, Sugarcoat sat with Sunny Flare inside of Good Knight, and Indigo rode with Lemon Zest inside of Street Heat.
"She's moving faster than normal isn't she?" Sugarcoat asked.
"That's what she said," Lemon snickered over the radio.
Sunny rolled her eyes.
"Smallfoot is probably moving faster because someone couldn't keep their mouth shut and stop making inappropriate jokes about her," Sunny replied, gritting her teeth together.
"Come on, it was funny!" Lemon protested through the radio.
"Lemon, you need to control yourself. Its fine to joke once in a while but you can't take a joke too far. That's what we've discussed," Sunny replied.
"Don't worry Sunny. I'm gonna find a comeback for Smallfoot to use on her, I'm sure she'll shut up once she uses it," Sugarcoat said.
"Come on Sugarcoat, nothin's gonna stop me. Oh, oh, I just got one! You think Sour will want to see... the junk in Smallfoot's trunk?" Lemon snickered, "Oh wait, she doesn't have a trunk. Oh yeah, she's a truck. That's not gonna work... Oh! You think Sour will want to see a tape of Smallfoot putting herself through a car wash? I bet she'll find Smallfoot washing herself just sooooo sexy...", Lemon snickered.
"Its comments like that that make me question just what we're doing with our lives," Sugarcoat said to Sunny Flare.
Sunny Flare held a hand on her face as she shook her head.
"I suppose there are stranger things we can be doing right now at the end of a Friday... None come to mind," Sunny Flare replied.
"You think we'll be able to help Smallfoot get together with Sour?" Sugarcoat asked.
"I'm not too sure about that. For one, what if her boss finds out? I can only imagine how well that'll go if he finds out she's dating a human. And I'm not even sure if Sour likes Smallfoot in that sort of way. But maybe we can find out if she does," Sunny said scratching her chin.
Out of nowhere, Smallfoot's truck form began slowing down and she pulled over to the side of the street into a curb to park on. The other Guardians stopped to see her stay in place. She didn't say anything, she didn't make any sound, she just sat there.
"Smallfoot? Are you okay?" Sunny asked through the radio.
"Sunny, can I talk with you?" Smallfoot asked. "Alone?"
Sunny looked out the window, staring at the red truck that was parked with an unsure look on her face.
"Um... sure dearie. Give me a second," Sunny said. She stepped out of Good Knight, and Good Knight's car door slammed shut. "You all go on ahead, we'll be there soon."
"Very well dear," Good Knight replied.
The Guardian cars and helicopters and planes took off into the city, leaving the blue skinned girl behind with the pickup truck. She watched the group speed off into the city, before turning herself around to look at the Guardian that was parked. She walked towards the truck and a door opened up for her to sit inside. She climbed in, and slided over to the driver seat.
"So, why did you just stop?"
The car door on the other side slammed shut, and Sunny could hear the locks lock up. This was a little concerning...
"Um... dearie? Why did you lock the doors?"
Smallfoot said nothing, but instead was silent for a moment.
"Do you think I have a chance with Sour?" Smallfoot asked through the radio.
"Well--"
"Do. You. Think, I have a chance... with Sour?" Smallfoot gritted her teeth.
Sunny took a moment to breathe in and out, "I do. Really, I do. Every time I've seen you two interact, I keep thinking you'd make a perfect girlfriend for her. Wait... were you listening to our conversation?"
"You mean the comments from Lemon about how ridiculous the idea of Sour and I together are, and the possibility that Sour may not like me that way?" Smallfoot snarled.
Sunny gulped. Smallfoot had overheard their entire conversation.
"Um...", Sunny stuttered.
Smallfoot sighed, "Forget it. Some bot like me wouldn't have a shot with a girl like her..."
"Don't say that. What makes you think you don't have a chance?"
"Sunny, look at me. I'm a living truck, I'm an alien from another world, and I have tons of emotional issues that I can barely keep together. She deserves someone who's strong. She's not gonna want someone who's a constant crybaby..."
"Smallfoot, don't say that. You're not a crybaby," Sunny said in a calm voice.
"Yes I am--"
"Smallfoot." Sunny said sternly. Smallfoot went silent to listen to her. "Listen, I know you may be afraid of what she might think, but you'll never know if you don't try. For all you know, she could secretly really love you but she doesn't know how to express it. Sour's never been known for expressing some of her feelings, but I think she may have some feelings for you."
Smallfoot wasn't sure what to believe. She never heard Sour express any feelings about being in love with anyone. But maybe she didn't express it because she was around...
"So... you think I might have a chance?"
"I really think you do have a chance. You just need a bit of confidence in yourself. Maybe if you asked--"
"No," Smallfoot interrupted, "I don't want to risk any embarrassment. I think its for the best."
"But, you said you wanted to--"
"I didn't finish. I meant, in my current state. I may not want to embarrass myself by being me, but that doesn't mean I can't ask her out. I need to be on equal grounds with her. In the state where I won't attract too much attention to myself. Someone she's never seen before, And I know how to do it..."
"How?" Sunny asked.
"I'll explain everything. But right now we should probably go see the Professor about this. Lets get rolling. Oh, and one more thing," Smallfoot said. "Can you please get Lemon to stop cracking innuendos on me? I'm embarrassed enough that I'm in love with a human I don't need her to make it any worse."
Sunny gave a warm smile, "I promise we'll try to get her to stop. In fact, I know Sugarcoat and Indigo Zap have a few methods to keep her silent. Not sure how long they'll keep her distracted though..."
Smallfoot's engine started again, and she pulled back out onto the street, continuing her drive.
"Why not just tie her limbs tightly and put duct tape on her mouth? Wouldn't that silence her? It worked on me."
"That's not the same thing Smallfoot. You were held hostage with a gun to your head, this is something else."
The rest of the Guardians and the girls had arrived over to Professor Von Joy's base of operations, hidden in the city as a giant skyscraper. All they had to do now was wait for Smallfoot and Sunny Flare to arrive.
The base door opened up, revealing the same red truck that had a shiny coat of red paint on it. It slowly pulled in, parking itself in front of the Guardians and the rest of Sunny's friends. The truck door opened and Sunny stepped out and the truck door closed itself. Smallfoot's arms slided out, the back folded out to form her feet, her head slided out, and the grille guard slided onto her chest.
"Sorry for the hold up guys, I just needed to talk for a second," Smallfoot said.
"Its fine Smallfoot," a Guardian said.
"Oh, I don't think Sour's gonna be happy," Lemon said.
"Don't ask, its a trap," Sugarcoat bluntly said.
"And why do you say that?" Smallfoot asked.
"You really need to listen when I tell you not to ask," Sugarcoat said shaking her head.
"Because I think Sour should be the one that... rides you," Lemon said, trying not to laugh, hinted by the snickering.
Smallfoot snarled and her foot stomped into the ground, giving a hint of a threat.
"Are you going to stop with the innuendos? They're starting to get annoying," Smallfoot hissed.
"Hey, relax, I'm just yanking your chain big rig," Lemon protested with her hands up in the air. "Although I do kind of wish maybe Indy or I was the one... riding you!"
Lemon just fell to the ground, laughing like a hyena. Smallfoot's teeth gritted and the girls shuddered when they heard a snarl from her.
"Okay. I've had enough. Indigo, any chance you can--"
"Yeah, I know..." Indigo said interrupting her.
Indigo just dragged Lemon by her feet, catching her by surprise.
"Hey, what are you doing!?" Lemon cried.
"You're not shutting up about Smallfoot, you've got to stop even if I have to be the one to do that," Indigo replied.
"Hey come on, I'll be quiet!" Lemon pleaded.
"No!" Smallfoot yelled down one hall as Indigo continued to drag Lemon, "I've had enough of your innuendo jokes! Just put tape on her mouth or something!"
"Ooh... I didn't know you were into that! You think Sour will be into that?" Lemon yelled back.
"AGH!" Smallfoot yelled. She felt her blood boiling and her face was turning red from rage and embarassment into one blend. She couldn't keep her anger in anymore, instead she just slammed her fist onto a bench where some equipment was lying on. No one flinched, but one Guardian freaked out.
"Smallfoot! I needed that!" Rest-Q yelled.
"Yeah, well, the only thing I need is for everyone to stop mocking the ludicrousness of my feelings towards a human, and I'd really like it if you all could be respectful and try not to embarrass me to a professional scientist!" Smallfoot snapped.
Their attention was turned to see a figure walk down to where the group stood. He was a Guardian like them, but his form was different from the rest of them. The cabin of the car was his head/face, the front hood of the car formed his chest, he had skinny red arms and ankles, and his feet had the back tires of the car he converted into.
"Good evening Guardians. How are you all today?"
Everyone murmured, giving a few confirmations of saying 'yes' and 'not so bad'.
"Evening Professor," Smallfoot greeted.
"Ah, good evening my dear. How are you?" The Professor said.
"Uh... not so good actually," Smallfoot frowned, tapping her fingers from both hands together. "I, uh... well, um..."
"You're fancying a date with the one called Sour Sweet, aren't you?" the Professor asked.
Smallfoot's eyes bulged out of her visor, "W-What!? H-How do you know that?"
"We're Guardians, we help keep each others secrets. Also your friend Sugarcoat called me ahead of time and explained your dilemma," Professor Von Joy replied.
"Oh, uh, okay...", Smallfoot quietly said before glaring at Sugarcoat, "Thanks a lot, Sugarbuns."
Sugarcoat merely shrugged.
Sunny spoke up, "Anyways Professor, the poor dear wants to ask a human girl out on a date but she doesn't believe her form is best suited for her. Do you have any idea on how we can get her into a more... uh, human, look?"
The Guardian scientist scratched the lower part of his cabin face, presumably his chin. He made a few grunts as he thought to himself and then he snapped his fingers.
"I think I know just the thing. Follow me," the Professor waved a hand for everyone to follow him.
The group followed the Professor down a hallway. And along the walls they could see some display cases, some of which contained old parts and relics from Gobotron, and a few random Earth items like an old computer or radio. And in some cases, there were a few photos that showed some of the Guardians together along with a few books.
Smallfoot looked at some of the items and relics that were in the display cases and gave a few smiles to some of them. So many memories were made with some of those relics, and they made so many memories back on Gobotron before it was destroyed.
The sound of running footsteps caught Smallfoot's attention, an when she turned around, there was Indigo Zap running behind catching up with the group, exhausted and out of breathe.
"Sorry I'm late guys," Indigo said.
"What exactly did you do to Lemon Zest?" Flip Top asked.
"I uh... well, you know that lounge area that Von Joy made for us? Well I tied up Lemon with duct tape and left a few strands on her mouth to get her to stop with the jokes. Sorry about that Smallfoot," Indigo chuckled hesitantly.
"You're not gonna leave her there, are you?" Smallfoot asked.
"Relax, I'm gonna come back and get her out. But I know you wanted her to stop with the jokes so I put her in a place where she'll stop. Besides I've got a television turned on in there and its got her favorite cartoons playing in there, it'll keep her distracted."
"Okay, but what about the tape that you put on her? Is she gonna be able to breathe?" Smallfoot asked, "Don't get me wrong, I do want her to stop but I don't want her dead."
"I've got that covered, I put a strand on her mouth and covered a few of the other ends making sure it stays in place. She's gonna be quiet for a bit...", Indigo said, "But I'm kinda sad though. She made some pretty funny jokes."
"I don't want to hear them Indigo, can you just keep any innuendo jokes to yourself?" Smallfoot asked.
"Of course, of course!" Indigo protested.
The group walked some more and they walked right into a laboratory. There were chambers the size of the Gobots themselves probably used for decontamination or testing, there were some work benches with tools, there were beakers and jars filled with some liquids, there was a flat-bed they could assume was for either open surgery or for analyzing substances.
"Whoa... that's a big lab you got here Professor Porsche," Indigo joked, "What are you even doing in here?"
The Professor turned to look at Indigo, and while he spoke his cabin kept lighting up, "I've been studying the Earth sciences ever since I've arrived here on Earth with the rest of the Guardians, and our other alien friends. Every chance I took, I've studied more and more on Earth's history. In fact, I've even read everything about the functions of the human body."
"Sweet," Indigo smirked.
"But what we need is a human form for Smallfoot to go in under. A disguise so she can ask Sour out without scaring her off," Sunny asked.
The Professor looked back at Smallfoot, "Hm... I think I might be able to make something like that. But I need to do one thing first."
"What's that?" Smallfoot asked.
The Professor looked back at Smallfoot, "Well if we're going to create a human form of yourself, I'm going to need full 360 scans of your body to help shape your human form. And I know how I can make you a human..."
As time went on, Smallfoot, the Shadowbolt girls, and the Guardians all helped and listened to the plans that the Professor had planned out to help Smallfoot. On a computer, they had a graphic display of 360 shots of Smallfoot's body which they could use to help design the human body of her.
And once those shots were in, the Professor pulled out some supplies and parts of machines and Sunny Flare opened up a bag of makeup supplies she used for whenever she had to go on stage performances since she was an actor. And as another plus, she brought with her materials used to make human skin for head props
The Professor, Pathfinder, Flip Top and other Guardians began constructing a body with the exact measurements that the Professor had laid out for them. Wires were being fused together, sockets were in place, springs and gears were cranked into place. Once the parts were put together to make it function, all they had to do was put metallic plating over it so they could cover the human skin over it. Plates began to cover, layers began overlapping, and the final pieces were beginning to come into place. Their creation was starting to look very close to a real human.
The Guardians stared down towards their creation all with admiration.
"It looks just like a real human. All we have to do is apply the materials to make a human skin," Van Guard replied.
"That shouldn't be a problem," Sunny said opening a bag with the supplies in hand, "Where do we begin?"
Sunny and the Professor wasted no time getting the material for the human skin onto the metallic protoform, it was the last bit of material to make this new body complete and they had to get the job done.
An hour or two passed by when Sunny and the Professor attached the final parts together. Together they had assembled a humanoid form, colored with gray skin, and covering the head was orange hair in the style of Smallfoot's. The front was slightly spiked and puffy, similar to Indigo Zap and Lemon Zest's, but it was long in the back.
Professor grabbed ahold of the body and walked over to one of the chambers. The chamber he was moving the form over looked like it was used for reanimating a corpse, or transferring a mind over to another body. There were pieces standing out for the figure's armpits to hang on, and there were a few bars sticking in between the bottom that went between keeping the feet in place.
Smallfoot watched as the chamber closed, sealing the metallic figure inside. She looked to the right and saw another chamber open up. She could only assume it was for her. But she wasn't too sure about stepping in there. She had never been tested for a lab experiment, and the very idea scared her.
She felt her metal skin rattle and shake, and she could hear it clank and clash against each other as she quivered in fear at the sight.
"Okay Smallfoot, if you just step inside, the machine will connect a few neuro-cords into your head and it'll transfer your mind into the metallic form."
Smallfoot gulped and she looked to the scientist, "Professor, are you sure this is safe? I don't want to be dead on the way transferring to the human form."
"I assure you my dear, it'll be fine. You won't feel a thing."
Smallfoot looked back at the machine and she could feel mental sweat running down her forehead.
"I'm not too sure about this...", Smallfoot shivered.
"Smallfoot. It's gonna be okay," Sunny said in a comforting voice as she patted Smallfoot's hand, "You wanted to do this. For Sour."
Smallfoot looked back at Sunny and gave one nod in return. She couldn't stop here, she had to keep going. This was for a girl she wanted to make happy. She had to make her happy, and she couldn't let her be more miserable.
"You're right. This is for Sour. I can do this...", Smallfoot said breathing in and out. She began stomping towards the chamber and he slowly walked into the machine. Her body turned around so she could face her friends, and she gripped two handles inside of the machine which was designed for the Gobots to rest onto while they were resting in there.
She looked back her friends, and watched as the machine door closed down and sealed tightly, locking her inside. Inside of the machine, they watched as some small cords extended from the inside of the machine, connecting to her head, sending a few volts of electricty through her body.
On the outside, they saw the electricity surge go through some tubes that connected to Smallfoot's tube, down to the other tube where the metallic human form was resting in. And inside of the tube where the metallic lifeform sat in, several volts of electricity began running up and down on the protoform.
"So... wait, Professor didn't you tell me there were other features with that form?" Sunny asked.
"Correct my dear. With what I've studied about the human body in mind, Smallfoot will be able to experience and feel everything the way an Earth teenager will feel. So everything that you girls feel, she'll be able to feel to. But unlike humans, she won't necessarily bleed thanks to the metallic skin I've coated her with to protect herself," Professor Von Joy replied.
"Did we even get to take a look at the final result of that protoform they put together?" Sugarcoat asked.
"No, not even me. They just asked me to give them the materials and that was it. Although I must admit, I am a bit excited to see Smallfoot as a human again," Sunny replied with some enthusiasm.
The girls all exchanged some agreeing glances.
"I'm willing to bet that's going to make things interesting...", Sugarcoat said.
"And at least Lemon Zest isn't standing here right now. If she heard what Smallfoot is going through right now, who knows what jokes she might make based on that sentence alone," Sunny Flare replied.
"I'm willing to bet she would make jokes suggesting that Sour and Smallfoot would be able to... do it," Indigo cringed.
The girls all stared off into space, not looking in any specific direction and their bodies all shuddered. The idea in their head was way to disturbing for their minds to imagine.
But they wouldn't have to worry about that for long, for the chamber holding the metallic protoform made a ding sound and the front door to it began to slide open, a cloud of steam flowing out of the tube. The girls coughed in the smoke and steam as they tried to bat away the steam from their faces.
Once their eyes were okay to look through the steam, all of their eyes bulged from their sockets when they saw the final result.
"Oh. My. Gosh...", Sunny murmured.
"Whoa...", Indigo stammered.
"I can't believe this...," Sugarcoat said.
"What? What is it?" One of the Guardians asked as they all gathered around to see the final result. Sugarcoat blinked a few times, but her expression showed she was quite uncomfortable looking at the figure since she was trying to avert her eyes away from the figure, and her teeth were gritting together.
"Even as a human, Smallfoot's rack is big."
