Chapter 14: Date Night!

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Smallfoot and Sour Sweet arrived to the place they were eating at without any traffic jams or issues at all. And Smallfoot had the disguised Scratch purposely park farther than needed so she could walk with Sour some more and hold her hand.

In her mind, it felt amazing to show everyone that Sour was hers and hers alone. This was her date, and no one could have her.

As soon as they arrived to the front of the diner, Sour gasped.

"Big Rig... I love this place! How did you know?"

Smallfoot just shrugged with a grin.

The outside was covered in chrome, there were red curtains seen from the windows, and there were bright neon lights glowing in the windows as well.

The two walked inside and Sour gasped when she saw the inside. It was the place she loved. The floors were checkered, and there were red seats all around for them to see. Red booths like the interiors of cars by the windows, and even the spinning chairs sitting up at the bar were red. There were pictures of 1950s bands, and lots of old artwork around, including a jukebox that was playing old tunes, and there were tiny models of 1950s automobiles.

The two girls were quickly seated by the waitstaff. The two took seats by the window, both sitting across from their significant other while they waited for their drinks.

Sour had nothing but a smile on her face. This girl was taking her here? How did she even know? But at this point, she didn't care. This girl was already impressing her.

"I'm really glad we're eating here," Sour said.

Smallfoot gave a smile and brief nod before writing another note.

So am I. I love 50s styled diners.

"Really? So do I!"

Both girls grinned as they stared into each others eyes; this date was starting out perfectly, now it was just to keep it up through the rest of the night.

Little did any of them know that they were being watched by many pairs of eyes within the restaurant. Many of which were seated at different locations within the vicinity of the restaurant.

On the outside of the restaurant, hovering above the place invisible and out of sight was an alien spaceship with gray and black colors on it.

"Pathfinder, in position. I'm using my cloaking mechanism, and I'm out of sight from any Renegades or civilians. I don't want another incident again."

"What incident are you talking about?", a voice asked over the radio signal.

"Well...

Pathfinder hovered in spaceship mode over the city as she continued to stay on course. Out of sight from any of the civilians, so far so good. The last thing she needed was some little child spotting them from above and freaking out.

"Look mommy! Aliens!!!"

"... Scrap."

Everyone on the ground below her started screaming like crazy and began running around in all different directions without any sort of sense of direction. There were screams, glass was being broken, car alarms were going off, and guns were firing in the air.

"Oh no... ", Pathfinder groaned.

"The end is near! The end is near! Steal everything while you can! Raid of all of the stores! Do things that make no sense at all!"

"... Lets just say I'm no longer aloud to fly over cities in vehicular mode unless I'm cloaked."

Pathfinder could hear a hand slapping over one of the com-links.

"I know you're facepalming right now Sugarcoat, and I don't appreciate it."

"Then next time you should think where you're flying first," Sugarcoat said on the other end.

"Can we please just focus on the task at hand? We've got to keep Renegades or Steel Blade off their backs," Pathfinder replied.

"Don't you think this is overkill dude? I mean come on, what's the worst thing that could happen on their date?", another voice said.

"Anxiety over either one of their pasts, a Renegade breaks on through the diner, Steel Blade returns wanting to exact some illogical revenge, the waiter spilling their food over them, someone starts a fight in the restaurant and they get thrown into it, a clown appears from out of nowhere and smashes pies in their faces, a few musicians on the run from the law come into the restaurant smashing right through the wall with their car--"

"I think we get the point Pathfinder," Sunny Flare replied, "Just keep an eye out from above. Can you give us details where the rest of the Guardians are? Didn't you say you brought a few with you in case?"

"Night Ranger is hiding in a parking spot along with Street Heat and Sparky over near the doctor's office across the street, Good Knight is hiding as a car being displayed near the sign of the diner to attract cars driving by, and in the parking lot where Sour and Smallfoot pulled up in is Scratch in hiding along with Dart, Mr. Moto, and Van Guard. We're keeping our eyes and ears open."

"Good. Now to give our report..."

Inside The Diner

On the inside of the diner, the four girls were split up throughout the place all in disguises. Since they didn't want to be spotted right away, they styled their hair differently, and Sunny gave them all new outfits to wear on the inside.

Sunny sat at one of the smaller circular tables, surrounded by other smaller circular tables. From where she was sitting, she was ear-shot away from hearing Smallfoot and Sour Sweet, but she kept a fedora hat tilted down to hide her face and short cut hair.

"Okay... so far so good. Sour and Smallfoot are getting along pretty well. We just need to keep everyone off their backs. Sugarcoat, where are you?", Sunny whispered into a hidden com-link.

Over on the far side of the restaurant, far from the lovebirds, was Sugarcoat. She was sitting at one of the booths, with her hair straightened and tucked to the back of her head, and she wore black sunglasses that blocked any view into her eyes.

"I'm in position. Thanks for letting me borrow your sunglasses," Sugarcoat said.

"Its not a problem Sugarcoat. Although I must question Indigo and Lemon Zest's choices..."

"Oh come on, what's wrong with them? We look fine!" Indigo snapped on the communicator.

"You two are wearing outfits that a majority of people would find highly offensive. Even I wouldn't wear what you two are wearing," Sunny said.

Indigo had a seat at the little bar that stretched into a circular formation in the middle of the diner and she was wearing an outfit that was extremely over the top. She wore a backwards cap, a tank top that was ragged, gold chains around her neck, and she wore glasses that were shaded with gold.

"How is what I'm wearing offensive? I'm just playing Zap Attack, the most famous rapper in Manehattan," Indigo said.

"That's really not necessary to the plan Indigo, I thought we discussed this," Sunny replied.

"Yes, and you said disguise yourself that wouldn't make it obvious who you were," Indigo retorted.

"I'll give you this, its better than what Lemon is wearing right now," Sunny said.

"Oh come on Ms. Sunny Flare, how is this insulting? This disguise is absolutely magnifique!", Lemon Zest said in a French accent.

All on their communication devices, Lemon Zest could hear their hands slap their heads.

"You've just offended so many people, its not even funny," Sugarcoat said, rubbing her fingers on the sides of her head as she sat at her seat.

Sunny Flare poked her eyes through a hole in the newspaper as she kept her eye on Sour and Smallfoot.

"Lets just keep the offensive stereotypes down a notch and focus on our job here," Sunny replied.

"Were we even paid?"

"Everyone please shut up! I'm trying to listen to Sour and Smallfoot!"

Sunny held the newspaper up to hide her face out of fear of the possibility that Sour just heard her. Well luckily and thankfully, she didn't. She was too focused on Smallfoot she didn't even pay attention to the strange girl with the trenchcoat and hat.

"So tell me, what are you planning on doing while you're here?" Sour asked.

Sour waited for a few seconds so Smallfoot could write down her response.

Well, I'm planning on finishing high school so then I could go to college, and eventually find my way working to a job here in Canterlot. I have an attraction to this place so I don't really want to leave. What about you?

"Oh, well I'm not too sure. I do want to attend college, but I'm not sure what I want to do in my life. On one hand I want to be a mother, but... I'm afraid I won't be able to. I mean with all of my anger issues, among other things, I don't think I'd be allowed to be a parent," Sour said with a frown.

Smallfoot still offered a friendly smile to her date. Her hand moved over to hers, and she interlaced her fingers in between hers without any struggles from her.

Sour, in my eyes, I think you could be a great mom.

"Well how do you know that?"

Because I know you wouldn't let anything bad happen to your child. If you don't want anything bad to happen to your friends, I'm positive you wouldn't let anything happen to your children.

Sour wasn't sure. She had always wanted a child for so long, but she never believed she could do it. Her own problems continued to cloud her mind, making any positivity towards the subject matter possible. Plus just from remembering how she reacted to her friends every day, and imagining that to her own child... that very thought of her scaring her child wasn't something she wanted to do.

Sour just breathed in through her nose, and continued to pick up the conversation.

"But, uh, what are your thoughts? Do you want kids?"

I'm not entirely sure. I have always wondered what it would be like to be a parent, and I'll admit, I've wanted to be the mother that I never had. My mom kind of... left, me and my dad.

Sour's smile dwindled into a frown as she read her reply.

"Oh... Big Rig, I'm so sorry... I didn't know."

Its alright Sour. But to answer your question, I have actually contemplated being a parent. I know there are responsibilities to it, but I think it can work. And I think maybe, just maybe, if we still stay together... maybe we could, you know... be parents?

Smallfoot gave a nervous smile. She didn't know how okay Sour was with that.

"You mean... you and I, being moms? Two moms?"

Smallfoot slowly nodded, receiving a grin from Sour.

"I love it! T-That is if you.. want to, have kids."

Smallfoot nodded.

But... maybe we should wait on that. I think we may be jumping ahead on this.

"No, no, you're right. This is our first date, we can't jump this far ahead. Lets just... lets just focus on what we have now."

Sunny watched the two of them for a mere second before pulling out a small notebook and pen.

"Note to self: Sour's got plans for the future, but she thinks too far ahead and too much on the negatives of the outcome."

Sunny then put her notebook away and looked back at the couple as they continued to talk to one another. Eventually their waitstaff came with their drinks and set them down.

"Now, can serve you this evening?", the waitstaff asked.

"Um, I would like the cheeseburger with the side of fries, along with some salad please," Sour asked.

"Yes ma'am, and what about you?"

Smallfoot looked at the menu briefly and pointed to the meals she wished to order.

"Silent type?"

Smallfoot nodded.

"Understood. I'll be back with your orders."

As soon as their waitress wandered off, the two looked back to one another to continue their conversation.

"So, um... can you tell me some things you like?"

Well, I do like trucks, that's for one. And I also like cute animals, games, 1980s and 1950s nostalgia, baking, science fiction, that kind of stuff. What about you?

"Oh, well, I kind of like some of the stuff you do as well. I like puppies, video games, old nostalgia, some baking here and there, and I'll admit, I'm a bit nerdy when it comes to old nostalgia. D-Don't tell Lemon Zest though, she's gonna keep harassing me about that."

Smallfoot muted a giggle.

I promise I won't tell Lemon Zest. But what kind of science fiction movies? Invasion From Xandar? Dawn of the Aliens? Space Chase?

"Oh, I love Space Chase! Its one of my favorite movies!"

Really? I love that movie too! I have almost every line in my head.

"So do I," Sour giggled.

She cleared her throat and she spoke with a deep voice.

"Lance... I am your father's brother's sister's nephew's brother's cousin's former roommate."

Smallfoot scratched her chin just pondering the thought inside of her head.

That really doesn't make them related now does it?

Sour shook her head.

"Yeah... even I don't think that makes any sense."

Smallfoot nodded.

But if its alright to change the subject, do you have any pets?

"Unfortunately no. I had a pet hamster but... it died."

Smallfoot frowned.

Oh. I'm so sorry to hear about that.

"Its okay. But I have been thinking about getting a new pet. Probably a dog, but its gonna be a little tricky since my dad's got a job of my own and I'm not gonna be around to look after one."

Well... I am taking part in an online school. Maybe if you want, if you ever did get a dog, I could babysit for you.

"Really? That would be great! But... I kind of need to have a pet if you're gonna do that."

I know. But still, if you ever need someone to look after a pet, I'm willing to offer a hand.

Sour smiled, "Thanks. Oh, our food's here."

The waitstaff returned with their food on a single tray and he set the plates down in front of them.

"Enjoy your meal. Can I get anything else?"

"Um, no, I think we're good. Big Rig?"

Smallfoot nodded.

"Okay ma'am. Enjoy your meals."

The waitstaff walked away to attend more tables leaving the couple alone to eat their food. All throughout their meals, they had nothing but peace. Just smiles, laughter, and the occasional feeding each other their food.

"These fries are so good!" Sour said as she kept on eating more fries.

Smallfoot munched some more on her fries and she took a few bites of her burger in between, enjoying the wonderous amount of flavors that she had tasted. The slices of cheese, the green lettuce, the red tomatoes, the meat patty in between, it had created some of the most delicious and delectable taste on her tongue.

Sunny Flare still disguised watched the two girls chow down on their food.

"Smallfoot loves the food here at Joe's. Personally questioned how she's able to eat since she's part robot, but I've remembered she's not entirely a robot, she's a living creature as well, but she's just a human for this case."

"Sunny, you left your mic on," Sugarcoat said.

"I know Sugarcoat, I wanted it on so you girls could hear what I had to say. I'm the closest one near their table, and you girls can't see anything that's going on with them. Is there anything you girls have seen yet?"

"Nothing so far. But... oh come on...." Indigo groaned.

"What?"

Sunny Flare gazed to the side and her eyes widened when she saw what they were looking at. Standing near the bar, waiting for their bill was someone they hoped wouldn't be here.

"You have...", Sunny began.

"Got to be...", Sugarcoat continued.

"Freaking...", Lemon followed.

"KIDDING ME!" Indigo finished.

Author's Notes:

What do you think of the chemistry between Smallfoot and Sour now? I know its not starting real good, but I do plan on making more of these two. I think I can make something really good with these two girls. Definitely some improvement needed.

And we should be nearing the end of this fic with just a few more chapters. And I hope you are continuing to enjoy what I've got set up.
