Chapter 12: Sour Nightmare

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Once everyone made it back to Sunny's house, everyone got dressed in their PJ's and were getting on with slumber party activities. Most of the time they were playing truth or dare, playing games, eating cookies or watching a movie. But either way, they were having a blast and a half.

And throughout their slumber party, Smallfoot still couldn't keep her eyes off of Sour. She was too excited about going out on a date with her. This girl was okay with going out on a date with her, and she wanted to date her very much. This was too much excitement she could barely contain it.

"Okay, Big Rig. Truth or dare?" Indigo asked.

Smallfoot scratched her chin and snapped her fingers. She wrote another note down.

Truth.

"Alright. What would you say, if you found out, that giant robots from outer space, have been living in this town, among all of us?

Smallfoot just raised an unamused brow and wrote down another note.

I actually already know about the giant robots. Sour showed me pictures of her and her truck.

Indigo's finger drooped, "Oh... I see. I thought it would be kind of funny if you didn't know and I wanted to see you freak out."

Smallfoot just shook her head, still unamused and scrunched her face with her fingers. She rubbed the top of her forehead, going in little circles, trying to comprehend what was just said to her.

"Yeah, I know how you feel there," Sour said patting Smallfoot's shoulders, "But yes, I did show her pictures of me and Smallfoot together. And also she told me that she saw reports of giant aliens living among us here in Canterlot. I'm just surprised she didn't have a bigger reaction."

Smallfoot just shrugged and wrote down another note.

This honestly isn't too big of news to me. I've seen exploding birds, magic killer turkeys, internet ghosts, hangmen who have no reason to kill people, killer clowns with intercoms for mouths, and doctors who've sewn people together in the most disturbing position that they would probably be dead upon awakening in said experiment. This kind of pales in comparison.

Indigo and the girls all awkwardly stared into the minty green optics of Smallfoot. She made quite an... interesting, list to say the least.

"That seems oddly specific," Sugarcoat stated.

It is what it is. Now, who's turn is it?

"Oh, me! Me me me!" Lemon called out, "And this time, Sour has to answer this."

"Alright, alright, ask away," Sour said.

"Truth... or dare?" Lemon asked.

Sour scratched her chin, "Truth."

"Being risky tonight, aren't you?" Lemon wiggled her eyebrows.

"Yes, yes I am. Now come on, ask away," Sour asked.

Lemon cleared her throat, "Who was... the worst boyfriend you had?"

The girls all turned their heads to look at Sour who had zero reply. Her face remained neutral, and she didn't give an answer. She didn't have anything to say, nor any response. Immediately their happy moods swung around to worried.

"Sour? Are you okay?" Lemon asked, "Did I go too far?"

Sour cleared her throat and took a deep breathe, "No... you didn't. This is Truth or Dare, so I should probably tell you guys the truth."

"Um... you know, I can ask you something else if that's too far, it sounds like you've been holding something back," Lemon said.

"No, Lemon. I... I can do this," Sour said trying to breathe in and out. "The worst boyfriend I had was... Steel Blade."

The girls gasped.

"Him!?" Sunny stammered.

"Y-Yeah... he was one of my ex-boyfriends. "

Smallfoot blinked and looked at the girls with confusion.

"Oh, uh... Sour, is there any chance you can tell Big Rig who Steel is?"

Sour nodded and turned to look at Smallfoot who gave a worried look.

"Steel Blade was the last boyfriend I had before I decided I was done dating for a while. He paid no attention, he never had any time to spend with me, and he..." Sour felt a lump forming her throat just trying to talk some more, "he..."

"Sour?" Sunny asked.

Sour sighed, "I don't want to talk about this anymore."

Sour just hugged her knees tight, and Indigo patted her shoulder.

"Hey, its okay. If you don't want to talk about it, we don't have to. We don't want to remind you of anything bad," Indigo said with a warm voice.

Sour nodded and composed herself back together, ready to continue playing the game with her friends. Smallfoot, despite not showing any signs of worry, was feeling very worried. It sounded like there was much more going on with this former boyfriend than what she was telling them. Did she do something horrible? No, it couldn't be. She described him being the jerk in this situation, and besides, Sour couldn't be horrible. She was cute as a button and she was actually a very sweet girl, how could she be nasty? Sure she got a little grumpy at times and a little mad every now and then, but she didn't have that attitude every waking hour of her life.

But wait. An epiphany formed in her brain. What if the boyfriend really did do something bad? Did he do something to push her to the edge? Did he not give her the attention needs? Did he not offer any of the love that she deserved?

Either way, this was something she had to know. She had to find out. If she wanted to go out on a date with this girl, she needed to know what to do. She couldn't repeat any of the same mistakes as her previous dates, she just couldn't. If she wanted to go out with this girl, she needed to be treated with the respect she deserves, the love she needs, to know she's always by her side whenever she needed her. This was a mission she couldn't fail.

As the night went on, one by one everyone began yawning, sending the message that maybe they all needed to call it quits for the night. So all of the girls moved over to their beds and mattresses, getting ready to fall asleep for the night.

But as for Sour Sweet, her sweet dreams were turning dark and twisted and cruel...

Sour Sweet found herself in a void, surrounded by darkness. The only source of light was the one above her body, and everything around her was nothing but darkness.

"Big Rig? Sunny? Where are you?"

Sour's own voice echoed in the void, until something else called to her, sending shivers down her spine. A voice. Not just any voice. A voice belonging to a male, and one she hoped to never hear again...

"Hello again, dyke."

Sour whimpered when she heard that cold voice, "Steel..."

A figure emerged from the darkness with a pair of scarlet eyes and a mischievous evil grin, and the only visible features that she could see was the pair of monster eyes that were facing her.

"Why did you come here? Just leave me alone..." Sour said.

"You know why I'm here. You can't run away from who you are... or what you've become. You know you won't get anyone to love you... you've got nothing but anger flowing within you..."

Sour's fists clenched tightly and she felt her heart pounding against her chest.

"No... that's not true... I know I'm not," Sour stammered.

"Oh... but you know you are. You're nothing but a monster... an entity filled with rage... and anger... an endless emotion that continues to flow through your body. Your friends know your true colors, and they know you will spend the rest of your life alone... you will NEVER get a girlfriend..."

Sour's head suddenly began ringing, pounding against her skull. She screamed, clenching her head and falling to her knees as the sounds of his words continued to rattle and echo in her head.

"Leave me alone! Make it stop!" Sour pleaded.

She looked up one last time to see the figure's entire body as he stood above her, with a clenched fist raised in the air.

"Smallfoot will never love you..."

Her eyes were wide enough to see his fist lunge towards her face.

"Smallfoot!!!" Sour cried.

The pounding against her head had finally stopped. Her eyes were wide awake as she looked around her, and her heart pounded against her chest. She was still at Sunny Flare's house.

Looking around her, she saw the girls in her room were still sound asleep. Standing back up on her feet, she crept out of the room trying not to make a sound as tears streamed down her face. She sniffled as she walked down the hall, going downstairs.

Little did she even realize that her footsteps and sniffles woke up one of the girls. One with orange hair and green eyes. She sound of Sour's walking stirred her out of her slumber.

Why was Sour up at this late at night? And was she... crying?

Carefully, she followed Sour down the hallway, and slowly moved down the stairwell. When she reached around the corner, she looked closely and received a confirmation of who was there. It really was Sour. She was leaning over the sink still sniffling, and she was whimpering too.

This was painful to listen to. She had to find out. Making her sounds visible, she acted like she was coming down the stairs, getting her attention.

Sour slowly turned around and saw Smallfoot standing near the doorframe, wearing only a tank top and shorts. Her face expressed major concern, and in her left hand was a cell phone that was turned on. Smallfoot could see Sour was indeed crying, as evident by her trembling lips, her reddened face and her tattered hair.

"B-Big Rig? W-What are you doing up?"

Smallfoot's fingers slided across the screen of the phone in her hand, typing her response in a very quick manner. She turned it around and showed her response.

I heard you crying. I wanted to see what was wrong. What are you doing up?

"Oh, um... its nothing, my throat was just parched, that's... that's all," Sour stammered.

Smallfoot wasn't convinced.

Sour, I know something's wrong, just tell me. I can see a bit of your mascara running down your face.

"T-There's nothing wrong..." Sour lied, rubbing excess mascara running down her cheek.

Smallfoot walked towards Sour with a sympathetic face and wiped away a tear that was about to drip from her face. She quickly typed another response down on her phone.

Sour, whatever is going on, I'll listen to you. There is nothing that is too silly or too outrageous for me. Now can you please tell me... are you okay?

Sour's lips trembled and she felt more tears well up in her eyes.

"N-No..." Sour whimpered, breaking down into tears.

Smallfoot pulled Sour in and let her cry on her shoulder. She held her close and began rubbing her back as her tears soaked her shoulder. Smallfoot wanted to offer her kind words, but she couldn't. If she spoke now, it would give her voice away, and her secret could be blown in an instant. But maybe she could still speak to her, without speaking.

Smallfoot pulled out of the hug, getting Sour to look her in the eye. She tilted her head towards the couch, offering her a place to sit.

Sour whimpered, "O-Okay..."

Smallfoot and Sour transferred over to the couch and sat down on the cushions. Smallfoot wiped away another tear from Sour's eye, and looked her in her purple eyes.

Now talk to me, what's making you sad? Was it something I did?

Sour shook her head, "No... y-you didn't do anything..."

Well what's wrong?

Sour's voice shakily breathed in and out, trying to calm herself down so she could speak clearly.

"Big Rig, I... I had a nightmare."

Smallfoot nodded, giving her undivided attention to her saddened friend.

"My... my ex-boyfriend, c-came back..."

Smallfoot pulled a tissue out of the tissue box and wiped away some more tears from her face.

Was he Steel Blade?

Sour slowly nodded, "He... he said... I wouldn't have anyone anymore... That I'm nothing but a monster who just gets angry... and that's all I am..."

Sour broke down crying into her hands, and Smallfoot wasted no time pulling her in for another hug. She rubbed her back as she cried on her shoulder. No wonder she couldn't sleep. She never saw her this distressed before. Was she really this scared about her ex? Was she this distressed over her last boyfriend? What even happened between them?

Smallfoot managed to move a hand over to her phone and typed with her one hand another question. Sour could hear her typing again, and she pulled out of Smallfoot's embrace, waiting for her next response.

Sour? Is it alright if I can ask why you're distressed over him?

Sour nodded, "I-I should probably explain."

She straightened herself up, and looked her in the eye. And with a clear throat, she began speaking.

"I did tell you Steel Blade was my last boyfriend... but I didn't tell you why he was the worst. Back when we were dating... it was one of the most miserable times of my entire life. He wouldn't even pay attention to me. He didn't care about me, he always skipped our dates and... worst of all..."

Sour tried to catch her throat, just trying to say the last part.

"He was cheating on me... with seven other girls!"

Smallfoot's eyes widened and she mouthed, Seven?

"Yes, seven! Seven girls, he was dating behind my back! He never even told me because... he didn't even love me... he never cared about me. He said I was nothing but a monster... He left me because of my own problems... my own, stupid, insane... issues..." Sour cried.

Smallfoot cupped the side of her face, getting her to look her in the eye. She wiped away another tear and pulled her in for another hug, and rubbed her back. Sour wasn't crying as much as she was before, but she was hyperventilating. She gave a few more pats to her back, and listened to her whimper.

"M-Maybe we shouldn't go on a date... I'm just gonna chase you away like everyone else..."

Smallfoot pulled away from the hug and she began typing into her phone again. Her fingers moved like lightning, hitting every key, and every button without missing a letter or making an error. And once she finished her statement, she presented it to Sour.

Sour. I know you're worried about your ex, but its okay. The past, is in the past. He isn't here now, he isn't gonna hurt you. And I'm going to make sure of it. If he's gonna get by, he's gonna have to get by me.

Sour felt a little surprised at her comment.

"R-Really?"

Smallfoot grinned and winked, getting a light smile from Sour. It was the first smile that Sour had all night. Looking back at her phone, she typed in some more words, and showed her what she had to say.

I mean it. I'm not gonna let anyone hurt you. I won't let anyone hurt you. You're worth more than I can even imagine, and nothing is going to be hurting you.

Sour felt tears well up, but these weren't sad. Instead these were tears of joy.

"B-Big Rig, I... I don't even know what to say..."

Smallfoot smiled back and wrote some more notes.

Can I ask you something? I know this seems out of nowhere but... can I take you out on a date?

Sour looked back at Smallfoot with a shocked look.

"W-What?"

Smallfoot's face looked a little hurt, but she continued to type.

Sour, I really want to take you out on a date. A real date. What he did to you wasn't necessary, and I'm very sorry that happened. And I know we've only spent just half a day with each other, but I really want to make you happy. I want to give you the love you deserve. I want to take you on the date that you deserve. A girl like you deserves the best in the world, and I want you to have the best.

Sour began smiling perhaps the biggest smile she had on her face.

"Y-You really do?"

Smallfoot smiled back, and she put her hand on Sour's hand, and let her phone sit in her lap reading her next message, giving Sour a clear view of her next text.

I do. Sour Sweet... will you give me the honor of taking you on a date?

Sour felt more tears form in her eyes, and a burst of joy began taking over her body.

"Y-Yes! I do!"

Sour jumped on Smallfoot, squeezing her in a big hug and Smallfoot could hear her squeeing in happiness. It was enough to make her giggle in silence just hearing her so happy again. She moved her hands around Sour and hugged her back, both girls relaxing in their warm embraces.

"Tomorrow night is gonna be the best night ever!" Sour squeed with a big grin on her face.

Smallfoot smiled in return and pulled her in closer, hugging her some more. She couldn't stop smiling, and her heart felt warmth all over. What started as terrifying fear transformed into wondrous joy. She did it. She asked her out on a date. She was going on a date with Sour Sweet! This was going to be the best night of Smallfoot's entire life!

Author's Notes:

Now as for the boyfriend name, no I am not using anyone's OC. I don't even know if anyone has an OC named that, and quite honestly this is as close a name as I can come up with.

But aside from that, how do you guys think this looks so far? You think its still paced alright?
