Challenge of the Shadowbolts: Sweet Sweet Smallfoot
Chapter 11: The Movie Theater Experience
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAuthor's Notes:
I think I'm jumping the gun a bit with the romance here. Again, first time writing OFFICIAL romance so any thoughts or suggestions would help me.
Also more references! WEIRD ONES TOO!
See if you can count them all.
Inside the theater, Sour and Smallfoot took their seats along with containers of popcorn and a few bags of candy with them. Luckily for them, there wasn't a lot of people in the theater which was a huge delight to them. No noisy or obnoxious people to annoy them.
And as they sat in the theater watching the many commercials and advertisements that flickered and boomed at them, Sour couldn't help but keep on staring at Smallfoot. She didn't look at her before but now that she was staring at her, she looked downright beautiful. Her reddish-orange hair looked like a crimson waterfall that flowed behind her head. Her green shades look like the minty green leaves that would be the secret ingredient for mints. And her gray skin... her gray skin reminded her of the shiny chrome that would gleam in the light on cars. But would she be okay to go on a date? Was she gay like her? Did she... love her?
She snapped from her thoughts when Smallfoot turned her direction and she immediately turned back, her cheeks turning red with embarrassment. Smallfoot couldn't help but stifle a little giggle. She was so cute when her cheeks turned red as red velvet cake.
But Smallfoot had something else on her mind. She wanted to make a move to ask her out, but how? She couldn't just ask abruptly out of nowhere, that would come off as desperate and creepy. Maybe she needed to wait a little more? Maybe make a few subtle moves now and then?
Looking at whatever options were available, she pulled out that same notepad and wrote some more, presenting it to Sour.
Hey, uh, Sour. Can I uh... I can share something personal with you?
"Um... sure, Big Rig. I wouldn't mind. You scared?" Sour teased.
Smallfoot just smiled and rolled her eyes.
No I'm not. But uh... I kind of have something personal about me. I'm not sure if this is a right time to say it, but... I thought maybe, if I tell you now, it could give you something weird to think about if the movie scares you.
"Okay, sure, what is it?"
Okay, I'm uh... well... do you promise not to judge me?
Sour looked back to Smallfoot's face who looked a little concerned. But she simply offered a friendly smile.
"Big Rig, I promise I won't judge you."
Smallfoot took a moment to breathe in and out. This was her one chance to possibly start something beautiful. But would she be okay with it?
There was no going back now. It was now or never.
I... I like the ladies.
Sour looked back at Smallfoot with a neutral face... for a few seconds.
"Really? That's all you were worried about?" Sour asked.
Smallfoot turned away with a sad look. She really irritated her now. Sour looked at Smallfoot's sad look and took a moment to realize her mistake.
"W-Wait, I didn't mean it like that. Big Rig?"
Smallfoot looked back halfway, unable to bring herself to look back. She was too embarassed to even speak to her.
"Big Rig, I promise I'm not mad at you. I was only surprised that this was what were worried about. Being gay isn't a problem to me. I'm alright if you like the ladies," Sour said.
Smallfoot slowly turned herself more and more closer to look at her friend. There she could see a glimpse of a friendly composure on her face.
You sure?
"Big Rig, don't worry. I promise I'm okay with it. I actually think its kind of cool."
Really?
Smallfoot's eyes widened under her glasses.
"Yes, I do. Truth be told... I'm uh... I... I like the ladies as well," Sour said, blushing harshly.
That's alright by me. Honestly, I'm kind of glad.
Sour was almost sent back in shock. "Really?"
Smallfoot nodded.
To be honest, I'm glad I have someone else to talk to who kind of shares a similar view to me. I don't really find anything attractive about men. At least with women, we have a lot more in common.
Sour huffed, "Tell me about it. Half the men I went out with weren't interesting. They were also giant perverts who just wanted in my pants."
Smallfoot gulped and shuddered in fear.
That sounds creepy.
"Yes it is. Very much so."
Sour and Smallfoot remained in silence for roughly 10 seconds after her last comment. Neither knew how to keep the conversation moving from there.
"But um... I'll admit, I've never gone on an actual date. With a girl, I mean."
Oh, uh... neither have I.
Smallfoot blushed and went for a sip of her drink.
"Right. So uh... I know this seems a little out of nowhere but... would you be interested in, going out on a date?"
Smallfoot choked on her drink and performed a spit-take, launching over a few chairs in surprise. Unfortunately in the few seats in front of them there was another couple sitting there, both of them flinched from the burst of liquid that launched on them.
"Hey! Take your spit launches outside would ya?"
Smallfoot sunk down in her seat, embarrassed.
"S-Sorry... I didn't mean to surprise you there," Sour giggled. "I just wanted to know, if you were interested in going on a date."
Smallfoot, pulling herself together, pulled out the same pad of pencil paper that fortunately didn't wind up becoming damp.
Isn't it a little early to think about dating? I mean we met only just today. Shouldn't we take some time to get to know each other? I'm not saying no, but I just think it should be good if we got to know each other some more.
Sour nodded, "No, you're right. A healthy relationship can't just start out of nowhere. How about this; maybe we can take some time to study each other a little more, and if we're both happy, we go on a date. Sound good?"
Smallfoot pondered for a moment, and she gave a grin and a thumbs up.
"Perfect!" Sour grinned, "Its a deal."
Smallfoot smirked, and looked forward and nudged her shoulder.
"Oh the movie's about to start. Perfect!"
Both girls got comfortable in their seats and prepared themselves as the movie began...
With the rest of the girls, they wound up going to sit through a superhero sci-fi movie instead. The tickets to see the Coconata movie had run out, and so they had to go see something else instead.
"Remind me again why we're going to see this? This doesn't look like it'll be any good," Sugarcoat asked.
"Come on, its gonna be awesome. The first movie was awesome, and the sequel's gonna be awesome too."
"That's what you said about The Tale of Endless Story 2."
"That was one time! Besides, the reviews said this one was awesome," Indigo said munching on her popcorn.
"Very well. But if this is bad, I'm walking out of the theater," Sugarcoat huffed.
"Girls, come on, this is gonna be awesome. Its got a cute baby alien and a hybrid racoon, how can anyone not like that?" Lemon squeed.
Sugarcoat just rolled her eyes, "I hope Sour and Smallfoot are having more fun than we are."
"You think they're gonna start making out yet?" Lemon asked.
Sunny stared back at Lemon unamused, "No. Look I talked with Sour and gave her advice on how to properly ask a lady out, and I highly doubt they're going to make out in the theater. Would you do it out in public with dozens of eyes watching you?"
Lemon shrunk in her seat, "No..."
"Exactly my point. Now lets just enjoy the movie. I do hope it'll be exciting," Sunny said taking a sip of her drink.
Both movies had began to run at the schedule they put in, and the separate groups began to sit and watch. Sour Sweet and Smallfoot were starting to enjoy the movie. And there were times it made Sour jump a bit.
But halfway in the movie, the imagery started to get pretty spooky and it made Sour's skin shiver. She said she could take it, but this wasn't what she had in mind. Maybe this movie wasn't worth losing a good night's sleep.
Smallfoot turned her head and she saw how Sour was looking. She couldn't stand to see her frightened. What could she do?
Looking at whatever options she had, she moved her hand over on top of Sour's, and held her hand. She felt warm skin touching her and looked to see Smallfoot offering a friendly smile along with a note.
Its okay. I'm right here with you. And if you want, we don't have to see this. I don't mind if you don't want to see this movie anymore.
"Its... its okay. But... can I just hold you?"
Smallfoot smiled, and allowed Sour to hold her hand as they continued to watch the movie. Her hand felt warm, and the feeling was starting to calm herself down. Her feeling of fear was slowly fading away, and it was beginning to be replaced with the feeling of happiness.
Sour looked back to Smallfoot and she offered a friendly smile as she held her hand.
"Um... Big Rig?"
Smallfoot looked back to her, and Sour whispered.
"Thank you."
Smallfoot couldn't stop smiling and simply gave a grin and a nod.
All throughout the rest of the movie, Sour's fears were continuing to go away knowing that her new friend and possibly date was right by her side. This was going to be a start of a new relationship...
After the movie was over, the two of them left still with smiles on their faces. Neither one of them were scared nor mortified with the scary images in the film. They were too lost in their own minds with the happy thoughts of being in a relationship with one another.
And they stood by another screening room as the rest of their friends were exciting theater with a different blend of expressions. Lemon Zest looked like she had been crying with the tear stains on her face and the trembling lips, Sunny Flare looked mortified, Indigo looked pumped and full of adrenaline, and Sugarcoat was... well she still had no expression as her usual stance, and she looked pretty stiff.
"So... How was the movie?" Sour asked.
Lemon Zest bawled her eyes, "That ending... that was so sad... and yet, it was so beautiful..."
"So... much... death..." Sunny stammered.
"It was freaking awesome!" Indigo cheered as she pumped her fists in the air.
"I thought it was okay," Sugarcoat said. "What about you two? You look like you had fun."
"Actually... we did. We were literally on the edges of our seat, it was so cool!" Sour said.
Smallfoot grinned and winked her eye.
"So, shall we go home then?" Sunny asked, trying to put herself back together.
"Yes... I need something with fluffy puppies to get that out of my head..." Lemon cried as she led the group away.
The girls followed Lemon as they were leaving the theater to go to the car. But as they walked, Sunny continued to observe Sour and Smallfoot together. They were still holding hands. Were they beginning to get closer? Were they official yet?
She closely walked to Sour and stood on her left while Smallfoot was on her right.
"Um... Sour, can I talk to you?"
"Oh, uh... sure," Sour blushed, realizing she saw her holding hands with Smallfoot, "Big Rig, do you mind if I...?"
Smallfoot nodded and stepped forward, allowing Sunny and Sour to talk in private. Once she was out of hearing range, she spoke up.
"Are you two together?" Sunny asked.
"What? No, we're not. Yet...", Sour whispered, "Look, we uh... we kind of admitted we're both... lesbians."
"I see... but have any of you two made any moves for starting official dates yet?"
"No, we haven't," Sour shook her head, "But I am thinking of asking her out, as soon as we find some common ground. Is... Is that okay?"
Sunny paused to think about it, "I... I suppose so. I haven't worked with a pair like you and Big Rig. But I suppose you're right. Just interact some more, get to know more about this girl, and maybe if you two have enough chemistry to spark a fuse, then I say you can date to your heart's content."
Sour squeed at the very thought, "Yes... Oh, s-sorry. That was..."
Sunny giggled, "Its fine Sour. Look, just find a little more about her, and I'm sure you two can have a good time on a date."
"You're right. Now come on, they're getting far ahead!"
Sour raced off to catch up with the girls while Sunny Flare followed after. Once again, so far, so good. They were still hitting it off... even if they were jumping the gun too much. They just needed to get to know each other some more. Who knows? Maybe they have more things in common than they realize. Maybe their chemistry was perfect enough they could start dating right away. Only time could tell...
