Chapter 42: Christmas Special: The Tale of Nyanta Paws

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Author's Notes:

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope that you do enjoy this Christmas Special of Princess and the Yo-kai. Now, just so you were left with the cliffhanger at the end of the last update, that's still going on, but I just wanted to get Christmas out of the way before we move on to the next Arc.

Yes, there's going to be another multi-chapter arc for Princess and the Yo-kai, with a new Boss Yo-kai at the end of it. If you're excited for it, then be sure to leave your thoughts down below in the comments section and maybe give me some ideas of what I should do for it.

But until then, have a very merry Christmas, and I'll talk to you all soon!

Down in Ponyville, bright decorations littered the trees and buildings as snow glistened in the skies. Ponies all throughout the town were dressed up in coats and boots, getting everything ready for Hearth's Warming. There were carols that echoed through the town as everyone worked hard on making sure that the place was ready in time for the holidays.

Twilight, Whisper, and Jibanyan were all sharing specially-baked Hearth's Warming cookies shaped like presents and trees in the castle lounge. The room, much like the rest of the town, was decorated festively, with elongated mistletoe hanging down from the ceiling.

"Happy Hearth's Warming, Whisper." Twilight smiled as she bit into her cookie.

"Merry Christmas, Twilight." Whisper responded with a bite of his own cookie. "I must say, I'm surprised at how similar the two holidays are to one another. You've got presents, dinner, decorations, carols, the whole nine yards! It's like Christmas and Hearth's Warming are one in the same!"

"Nyeah!" Jibanyan devoured his food within seconds and wiped the crumbs from his face with a paw. "These cookies beat chocobars any day!"

"I'm glad that you two are enjoying them." Twilight stood up from the chair and walked over to Whisper and Jibanyan. "Since you two are new to Equestria's Hearth's Warming holidays, I want to make sure that you feel comfortable celebrating it. Feel free to do whatever you want to help. Whether it's helping somepony set up decorations, singing songs with ponies through the streets, or just general present wrapping, you're welcome to try it."

"Well, that all sounds rather marvellous, Twilight," said Whisper. "I might just have to take you up on that opportunity sometime."

The three of them took more bites out of the festive-themed cookies and sat around the fireplace, warming their hooves, paws, and hands against it. The feelings they felt were clear as day; it was going to be a great season for them all.

"Say, Whisper? Can I ask you something?" Twilight looked over at her ghostly companion. "Do Yo-kai have any special Christmas traditions?"

"Why yes, yes we do." Whisper unlocked his Yo-kai Pad and activated an application on it. "Every year, one particular Yo-kai is declared Santa Claus. They get a festive makeover and lead the way throughout the Yo-kai and human worlds, delivering presents to every boy, girl, and Yo-kai all in one night." Suddenly, he squealed as he saw a video appear before him. "It's starting! They're announcing this year's Santa!"

"Really?" Twilight slid over to the pad. "Let me see, Whisper."

"Me too!" Jibanyan leapt onto Twilight's shoulders and peered at the video screen. "I wanna see who gets to be Santa this year!"

"Greetings, Yo-kai of all ages, shapes, and genders!" A bearded man sitting on a cloud appeared on the screen. He wore a red hat with three bags floating behind him. "As you all may know, it's almost Christmas time for the Yo-kai and human worlds. Which means that it's now time to decide which lucky Yo-kai get to become the one and only Santa Claus!"

"Who's that?" Twilight looked at the man sitting on the clouds.

"That's Ol' Saint Trick." Whisper pointed out. "He's a Yo-kai who specialises in multiple choice scenarios, usually involving three different items or subject matters. He also hosts a great game show in his spare time. I should really show you it someday."

"He also gets to decide who gets to be Santa Claus, as well as his helpers!" Jibanyan's tails shook wildly as he got closer to the screen. "C'mon, man. Don't leave us in suspense! Just tell us!"

"And this year, Santa Claus will be..." Ol' Saint Trick shuffled his bags around so quickly that it was impossible for anyone to keep track of it. When the bags finally stopped, he reached into the nearest one and pulled out a thin strip of paper with the Yo-kai's name on it. "Jibanyan!"

"Wha?!" Jibanyan jumped when he saw the name and fell to the ground head first. "Me? But I can't be Santa! I'm just a cat!"

"Oh, come on, Jibanyan. Surely it can't be that bad." Twilight picked Jibanyan up and placed him on her head again. "You're getting possibly the best job in the whole entire world! You get to be Santa Claus for just one night!"

"Yeah, but I'm Santa to both humans and Yo-kai. That's gonna be twice as much hassle and presents as usual." Jibanyan rubbed the back of his head and looked down at the screen again. "I'm gonna get tired out incredibly fast, y'know."

"He does have a point." Whisper raised his finger. "Being Santa Claus might be an incredible job, but you have to consider the fact that it's the ultimate night shift. He has to deliver presents to everyone in the human and Yo-kai worlds all in one night, and within the span of only twelve hours. It'll be chaos for poor little Jibanyan."

"It's not all that bad, Whisper." Twilight nodded. "In all depictions of Santa Claus mythology, he's been seen to have little helpers with him, wrapping the presents and helping him keep track of who still needs to get their gifts."

"And now, for his helpers." Ol' Saint Trick clicked his fingers, sending hundreds more papers out of the bags, revealing the Yo-kai who would be aiding Jibanyan for the night. "All of these Yo-kai are to come with me immediately."

Ol' Saint Trick clapped his hands, causing a pillar of light to appear at Twilight, Whisper, and Jibanyan. It was so blinding that the three of them had to cover their eyes as they quickly vanished from the castle, leaving no trace of themselves whatsoever.

Twilight, Whisper, and Jibanyan re-materialised inside of a massive wooden building, with a tall ceiling and lots of different machines strewn around the place. There were toys, jewels, devices, consoles, and many more all set up on the conveyor belts. Many of the machines and other furnishings were all painted red, green, and white, and were accompanied with lots of different Christmas decorations.

"Whoa..." Twilight nearly drooled at the sight of the place. Her eyes were darting between everything that she could see, from the gifts, to the machines, to the decorations. "I'm actually standing in Santa's workshop. I've dreamed about seeing this place ever since I was a filly!"

"I'm sure that with Jibanyan as Santa Claus, that's not the only surprise you're going to be getting tonight." Whisper floated towards the conveyor belts.

"Indeed."

With a few more pillars of light, Ol' Saint Trick appeared in the room with lots of different Yo-kai accompanying him. He flew over to Jibanyan and shook his paw.

"Greetings, Jibanyan. My name is Ol' Saint Trick." He nodded and sat as if he was meditating. "I trust that you have a lot of questions, but first, I want to ask you about your two friends." He gazed over at Twilight and Whisper. "I'm sure that I don't recall choosing them to be your helpers."

"Oh, it's alright, Ol' Saint Trick." Jibanyan scurried over and pointed to Twilight's Yo-kai Watch and pulled out her Medallium. "Twilight's my master, and Whisper's a Yo-kai who gave her the Yo-kai Watch. Together, the three of us are assembling friends to battle against King Void and save the world."

"So you're the supposed chosen one that Queen Ephemer has her eyes on, is it?" Ol' Saint Trick came up to Twilight and opened his eyes. "Well, I must say, you do look more composed than I had expected."

"It's nice to meet you too, Ol' Saint Trick." Twilight shook his hand. "My name is Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship. I look forward to working with Jibanyan tonight."

"Please, princess. Jibanyan is such a rather ill-fitting name for this sort of occasion." Ol' Saint Trick shook his head. "For tonight, you may refer to him as Santa Claus."

"Alright. Whatever floats your boat." Twilight smiled and walked over to Jibanyan. "Well, if there's any way that we can help out, I'd be glad to do it."

"You all certainly weren't in my bags the last I checked but the more the merrier, I suppose." Ol' Saint Trick shrugged. "Anything that helps Santa get the job done quicker is welcome in this workshop." He turned towards all of the other Yo-kai in the room. "Now, as for the rest of you, you're all going to be assigned helper uniforms based on your tribe and powers. After that's done, I'll be assigning you different duties depending on talents."

Everyone was assessed by Ol' Saint Trick and assigned different uniforms. They all had white tufts of fur around the sleeve holes, shoulder areas, and down the front, but were all coloured differently to match that of the Yo-kai's tribe. Once they were appropriately dressed, they dispersed to different sections of the workshop, ready to follow instructions.

"I can't believe we're actually working in this workshop!" Whisper shook his hands wildlyl as he looked at the presents. "This is like something out of a fairy tale!"

"Maybe we'll get to ride in his sleigh as well, delivering all of the gifts to all of the boys and girls all in one night!" Twilight squealed. "I'm so excited, I'm turning into Pinkie Pie!"

"Princess, if you don't mind, I'm showing Santa around his base of operations for the night." Ol' Saint Trick approached Twilight and Whisper. "Would you and your ghostly companion care to join us?"

Twilight gasped and shook his hand once more. Only this time, she was much more vigorous in doing it. "Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!"

"Alright then. Come with me, you two." Ol' Saint Trick hovered towards a door dressed with a white frame and festive wreath. "It's time to show you all around."

"C'mon, Jiba—uh, I mean Santa. Let's go and see the rest of this place." Twilight skipped through the door with Whisper close behind her.

"Sure thing..." Jibanyan looked away from the door but walked towards it nonetheless. He let out a sigh as he followed Ol' Saint Trick into the next room. Why did it have to be me this year?

"As you can see, being Santa Claus is no easy task." Ol' Saint Trick stretched his arm towards a colossal sack, loaded up with presents of all shapes and sizes. "Having to deliver to all seven billion humans and all of the Yo-kai in one night is tough—even for the last year's winners. But even so, we stuff the bag as high as we can, making sure not to leave someone behind."

"Wow..." Twilight stared at the size of the bag in awe. She thought that it was at least the size of her castle, if not larger.

"Nyeah right..." Jibanyan muttered under his breath and carried on with Ol' Saint Trick.

"As you can see below you, Yo-kai are working hard to get everything wrapped up nicely in time for the holidays." Ol' Saint Trick pointed down over the railings and motioned the other three to join them.

"Wait a minute..." Twilight looked closely at the Yo-kai at the benches. They were all the same, right down to their black hair, wide smiles, green pointy hats, and bulbous heads. "They all look the same!"

"When Christmas comes around, all anyone can think of who make the presents are elves." Ol' Saint Trick smiled. "So, to keep their spirits high and to stay true to the stories of old, we've dressed up these Gnomeys to resemble Santa's elves.

"Gnomey. Now that was a Yo-kai for the ages." Whisper looked at all of the Gnomeys wrapping the presents and sending them down pipes. "Sixty years ago, he joined up with Pallysol, Mermaiden, Faux Kappa, Predictabull, Hovernyan, and Nathaniel to battle Dame Dedtime and the Wicked Yo-kai." He sighed, letting off a smile. "I still remember the time when they all defeated Kin and Gin together."

"So, what can Gnomey actually do in terms of inspiriting people?" Twilight turned to Ol' Saint Trick.

"Gnomey is a Yo-kai of good fortune, much like my rival, Ol' Fortune." Ol' Saint Trick stroked his chin with his fingers. "If he inspirits you, your luck increases by a minor fraction. On top of that, your home feels much more homely if he's in it."

"Makes sense that he would be wrapping Hearth's Warming presents." Twilight flapped her wings and flew over the group, who were still engrossed in their work. "Happy Yo-kai should spread their joy to others; especially at this time of year."

"And now, if you'll kindly follow me, I want to show you all one more thing before we can get to work." Ol' Saint Trick flew towards the door at the end of the room.

"C'mon, Santa. You get to ride on me for the night." Twilight lifted Jibanyan onto her back and went towards the door.

"Yeah, you do that." Jibanyan jumped off of Twilight and scurried towards the door. "I might be Santa for the nyight, but I've still gotta keep my dignity, y'know."

"Oookay?" Twilight raised a brow as Jibanyan overtook her. "That was weird."

"And finally, we've come to the end of our rather short tour. But it's the best part." Ol' Saint Trick flew over towards a tarp and yanked it off, revealing a sight that brought life to Twilight and Whisper's faces. "Behold!"

There before them, was a red sleigh, much like the ones that Santa would ride in on Christmas. There was a large space on the back to store the sack, and two couch-like chairs for passengers to sit in. There were reins at the front that connected to nine identical Yo-kai. All nine of them were unicorns that rode on clouds, but the back eight were blue with orange chests, manes, and tails. The one at the front was black with a yellow stomach and blue hair.

"Santa's sleigh in all of its' glory." Ol' Saint Trick chuckled. "Isn't it marvellous?"

"Whisper, I've officially died and been reincarnated as a Yo-kai. This is incredible!" Twilight gushed at the sight of the sleigh and horse-like Yo-kai pulling it. "I didn't think that I'd actually get to see Santa Claus's real sleigh in the flesh!"

"And to keep true with the spirit of the holiday, we've named each of these Yo-kai accordingly." Ol' Saint Trick flew over to the Yo-kai. "Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen are represented by these eight Kyryn." He then came up to the one in the front. "And, being the most special in both Santa mythology and Yo-kai mythology, Unikirin here will be playing the role of Rudolph."

"Unikirin's incredibly special in the Yo-kai World." Whisper pointed to him. "Much like Count Cavity, which you met on Halloween, Unikirin is an Ultimate Yo-kai. His powers can heal any wounds, and are even reported to restore dead humans to life, with a few years shaved off on top of that. He's like a god of healing!"

"Kyryn and Unikirin, eh?" Twilight examined the nine Yo-kai closely, checking each and every individual part of them. "They all look impressive, but can they fly well?"

"We've made sure to breed them well for this day." Ol' Saint Trick petted all of the Yo-kai individually. "Out of all of the applicants, these were the Yo-kai that made it through to the real deal."

"It is both an honour and a privilege to pull this sleigh tonight for you, Santa." Unikirin turned to face Jibanyan. "I'm sure that with you behind the reins, everything will go down smoothly."

"Yeah, whatever. Just make sure nothing goes wrong, alright?" Jibanyan grumbled and crossed his paws.

"Jibanyan!" Twilight lurched back at Jibanyan's spiteful tone of voice. "Why would you say such a thing? You're supposed to be San—"

"Maybe I don't WANT TO BE SANTA! DID YOU THINK OF THAT?!" He roared and slapped Twilight across the face. "I'm not going to be held responsible if all of these kids wake up feeling disappointed because they chose the wrong Yo-kai!"

"Santa! What sort of blasphemy is this?" Ol' Saint Trick's eyebrows shot wide open.

"I'm saying that I'm nyot meant to be Santa Claus! I'm meant to be Jibanyan. Ji. Ban. Yan! Do you get it?" He snarled in Ol' Saint Trick's face. "I don't want to be a part of this, nor do I want anything to do with this stupid role. I'm out of here!" He ran out the next door, into the outside world.

"Jibanyan, wait!" Twilight flew after him with Whisper in tow.

"Oh dear. Why is it always Christmas time when something goes wrong?" He asked himself before chasing after Twilight and Jibanyan.

The world outside was coated in thick snow that went straight up to Twilight's kneecaps. The sky was beginning to darken with the setting of the sun, and stars were beginning to appear in the sky above, along with an aurora borealis. As the night sky filled with colour and light, all that the three of them could do was sit and watch.

"Pretty, isn't it?" Jibanyan sat on his haunches and tipped back into the snow, completely unfazed by how cold it was. "Shame that everyone else is gonna wake up tomorrow feeling sad and miserable that Santa didn't come."

"Jibanyan?" Twilight slowly crunched through the snow and came up to him. "What happened in there? Why in the world would you run away?"

"Twilight, you're probably the only one who understands this, but I think that it was a mistake to have me as Santa Claus." Jibanyan sighed and turned towards her. "Sure, it's a great job and all, but it's also one of the hardest to do. One mistake can ruin everything for everyone, and I don't want to feel bad for hurting millions of kids in both the human and Yo-kai worlds."

"Jibanyan, I know how hard it must be." Twilight sat down in the snow and shivered heavily as it connected with her flanks. "Believe me, I'm still facing hardships of my own. Midnight Sparkle's still a part of me, and King Void's trying to claw her out of me. I've ruined the lives of everyone in Ponyville, and I don't think that I can ever make up for what I did. I might have even killed a few ponies with that dark magic surge."

"That's why I wanted to share this with you and you alone." Jibanyan slowly stood up and waddled towards her. "You and I are both in the same sleigh. Whisper, Ol' Saint Trick, and everyone else thinks that I can do them proud, when we both knyow that it's only going to be a disaster for everyone if I'm Santa."

"See, the thing here is that you're admitting defeat even before you've given it a chance." Twilight reached out and massaged his belly with her hoof. "If you don't try, then you can't fail. And while that may seem good at the same time, when people count on you to do something, you'll end up letting them down by not doing it."

"But if I do it and I mess it up horribly for everyone, then they'll be even more mad at me than if I didn't do it." Jibanyan sighed and looked up at the stars. "It's better to not do it, than to try and let them all down."

"But you're not going to be alone, Jibanyan." Twilight looked him in the eyes. "Me and Whisper are helping you out personally, and Ol' Saint Trick has Yo-kai of his own working hard on the presents inside. Things might seem bleak, but if you just ask for help in your time of need, then people will definitely swoop in and do something to help—even if it's miniscule." She held out her hoof. "No matter how tough it might seem, no matter the burdens you have to carry, we'll be right here for you, Jibanyan. So will you do it?"

Jibanyan let all of Twilight's words swim around in his head as he continued to gaze up at the lights and stars twinkling and shimmering in the sky. He looked her in the eyes and slowly climbed onto his feet as he finally made up his mind. He took Twilight's hand and shook it gently. "Alright, Twilight. Just for you."

Then, with a bright blast of light, Jibanyan was lifted into the air, causing Twilight to jump once again.

"What in the world is all this?" Whisper asked, looking at the bright light with his hand over his forehead.

"I don't know!" Twilight squinted at the shimmering light.

Jibanyan landed before Twilight and Whisper dressed in black boots, a red coat and hat, and with a beard around his mouth. He carried a small sack on his back and slowly hobbled forward towards them.

"Greetings, Twilight and Whisper." Jibanyan's voice was much deeper and gruff. "Season's greetings to you both."

"What happened to you, Jibanyan?" Twilight's eyes almost bulged out of their sockets as she looked at Jibanyan's new form.

"Jibanyan? He's a nice little fellow, but he's not me." He lifted his bag over his shoulders and puffed out his chest. "My name is Nyanta Paws. And I decide which Yo-kai are naughty and nice."

"Nyanta Paws?" Twilight parroted.

"And so, it is done." Ol' Saint Trick floated across the snowy landscape. "The real Santa Claus has finally appeared. Jibanyan's true role in the holidays has been realised." He shook hands with Nyanta. "You are looking much better now, Santa."

"It's Nyanta, Ol' Saint Trick. Nyanta Paws." He crossed his arms. "Be careful of what you say or do, Ol' Saint Trick. You don't want to be put on the naughty list now, do you?"

"Uh..." Ol' Saint Trick's cheeks flushed bright red at that remark. "R-Right this way, Nyanta. Let me show you to your hard-working Yo-kai."

"He certainly changed quick." Whisper cocked his own brow. "What do you suppose could've happened to him?"

"Christmas magic happened, Whisper." Twilight smiled and followed Nyanta Paws back inside the workshop with Whisper close behind him. "Now, he's raring to go for the holidays."

Twilight, Whisper, and Nyanta Paws all came back to the room and saw the Yo-kai all working hard, sorting the presents between who would be getting them, as well as what each person would get. The work seemed to be going along smoothly, until they looked at the list of presents left to sort.

"Oh my." Nyanta Paws looked at the list. "So many names left, and we haven't even sorted everything out yet."

"I think I've got that sorted." Twilight pulled out her Yo-kai Medallium and slammed each and every Medal that she could find into her Yo-kai Watch. "Come on out, my friends! Let's give Nyanta a helping hand!"

With a series of pillars of light, all of the Yo-kai that Twilight had befriended appeared before her. All of them looked around the place before turning back to Twilight, Whisper, and Nyanta.

"Everyone. Christmas is right around the corner, but we need all of your help to get it done in time!" Twilight pointed towards the benches. "If you want to be on the nice list and receive more presents this year, it'd be great of you to help us sort out all of these presents!"

"Let's do this!" The group all cheered together and ran towards the benches, getting dressed by Ol' Saint Trick with the proper uniforms while they got to work.

As the time passed on, with Twilight's extra team of Yo-kai, the work was finished at a much faster pace. When the presents were sorted, they were sent down tube systems to where the Gnomeys were. They would wrap the presents, then put them into Nyanta's sack, which would then be hoisted onto his sleigh.

Every Yo-kai of all ages, shapes, and sizes took on the job of handling the presents. Even Gargaros and Sgt. Burly were getting into the spirit of the season as they labelled the presents correctly and sent them off to the Gnomeys below. Soon, everyone was all done with their gift sorting and walked back up to Twilight and Nyanta.

"Ho, ho, ho! You all did wonderfully." Nyanta nodded at the group. "I think it's safe to say that each and every one of you made it onto the nice list this year." Cheers erupted from the crowd of Yo-kai until Nyanta waved his paws and took in Soultimate energy Once he was done charging, he opened his presents and loudly proclaimed, "PAWS OF PRESENTS!" before handing out presents at lightning-fast speed to each of the Yo-kai.

"Thank you, Nyanta!" They all chorused as they took their presents and were about to rip them open.

"Uh, uh, uh! No opening them until tomorrow, everyone." He chuckled. "It's not Christmas if you open your presents the day before." Nyanta turned towards Twilight and opened his bag. "And now, I believe that both Twilight and Whisper are in need of some presents of their own.

"Wow! Getting presents from Nyanta Paws himself!" Whisper took his and cradled it in his arms. "This has truly been the best Christmas ever!"

"The best is yet to come, everyone." He chuckled and led Twilight and Whisper through the next doors. "Follow me. It's time to give you a true Christmas present."

"You don't mean..." asked Twilight.

"Oh, I do mean." He took Twilight's hoof and gave her a warm smile. "How would you like to fly in my sleigh tonight?"

"Nyanta, I, Twilight Sparkle, hand on hoof, would love to fly with you." She stepped forward and shook his paw. "And, may I just say that this truly has been the best Christmas ever."

"I'm glad that you think of that." Nyanta led her through the building towards the sleigh. "Now follow me, if you would."

"Nyanta! You're just in time." Ol' Saint Trick put a sack of presents into the back of the sleigh. "Everyone's presents have been accounted for, and they're ready to be delivered."

"Good. Good." Nyanta adjusted his coat and hat. "Anything else I should know?"

"We've just kitted up your Kyryn and Unikirin with sleigh bells. So now, when they fly through the sky, they'll be jingling jut like the kids imagined." He showed them off to both Twilight and Nyanta. Clicking his fingers, the Yo-kai all moved forward, causing the bells to ring. "Now, all that's left is for you to fly this sleigh across both worlds and deliver the gifts to everyone."

"Wonderful. Thank you, Ol' Saint Trick." He shook his hand and climbed into the sleigh. He got comfortable at the front and took a hold of the reins. "Climb on, Twilight. There's enough space in this sleigh for you and Whisper too."

"Come on, Whisper. We get to ride in Santa's sleigh!" Twilight climbed into the front of the sleigh and sat next to Nyanta.

Whisper, Twilight, and Nyanta Paws all sat down comfortably and strapped themselves into the sleigh. Once they were all comfortable with how they were sitting, they all nodded to Ol' Saint Trick, who floated over towards a giant wooden gate and opened it up, revealing the outside world once again.

"On, Kyryn! On Unikirin!" Nyanta took the reins and cracked them like whips at the nine unicorns. They all galloped, pulling the sleigh and all of the presents along with it out of the stable and through the night sky. "Ho, ho ho!"

Twilight and Whisper could only watch as they left the ground and took to the skies, getting higher and higher every second. They soon passed through the aurora borealis and bathed in the lights as they pushed through the clouds and into the world above.

"This is absolutely incredible!" Twilight squealed as she put her hoof through the clouds, cutting them into pieces. "I'm flying in Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve! My fillyhood dream has come to life!"

"You're in for quite a treat then, you two." Nyanta Paws chuckled. "Because tonight, you'll get to see me delivering gifts to every good little boy and girl on both the human and Yo-kai worlds non-stop." He still held onto the reins, but he pulled out a Yo-kai Medal. "Oh, but before we go on, I'd like you to have this. For your devotion to the holiday cheer, and for helping me realise my true potential."

"Wow... A Yo-kai Medal on Christmas." Twilight took the medal with her magic and placed it in the Yo-kai Medallium. "Thank you ever so much again, Nyanta Paws!"

"No problem, my dear Twilight Sparkle." He gave her a pat on the back. "If you ever need a bit of Christmas cheer in your life, just give me a call and I'll be right there for you."

Twilight and Whisper tried to stay awake for most of the night, but their eyelids began to droop after half of the journey had been done. Now, they were fighting to stay awake as the noise of jingling bells rung out in their ears. Both melodious and hypnotic at the same time, the two of them were mesmerised by the noise and eventually grew tired. They let out yawns and rubbed their eyes, keeping awake for as long as they can, but their tiredness got the better of them, and they fell asleep at long last.

Nyanta looked at the sleeping pony and Yo-kai, shrugging while also giving them a smile. He rubbed both of their heads and dashed off into the night, leaving a trail of Yo-kai energy behind him as he flew.

The next day, Twilight Sparkle woke up in the lounge of her castle with Whisper, Jibanyan, and Spike by her side. She was still a bit groggy from the events of last night, but she managed to summon the strength to stand up and open her eyes.

"Oh, thank Celestia you're awake! Now we can finally open our Hearth's Warming presents!" Spike ran over towards the tree and knelt down towards a big box-shaped present with a white bow on top of it.

"Huh?" Twilight shook her head and noticed the tree and presents beneath it. "How long was I out?" She let out a gasp as she remember what she had been doing last. "Nyanta! I totally fell asleep as we were flying!"

"Ugh. Keep it down, will you?" Jibanyan rubbed his eyes and stood up on his paws. "Us cats sleep nineteen hours a day, y'knyow..."

"I must say that I do feel pretty dizzy myself." Whisper got up and slumped over Twilight's back. "It's like I've drunk ten gallons of eggnog all at once, vomited a bit, partied hard like an animal, and then passed out." He rubbed his head. "If this is what those humans call a hangover, I don't think I'd like to try it again..."

"I don't know what happened, but you were so passed out that I had to do the doll trading without you." Spike handed Twilight a woven doll, which she then put on the fireplace. "At least I don't have to open your presents for you too, am I right?"

"Presents?" Twilight looked over at a small box near the tree with a letter on it. She pulled it out and opened the letter first, reading what had been written down.

Dear Twilight Sparkle,

Thank you for one of the greatest Yo-kai Christmases of all time. As well as your new Yo-kai Medal of me, I thought I'd give you a little something extra for when you wake up on Christmas Day.

Warm regards,
Nyanta Paws

"Extra?" Twilight tore through the wrapping and found a small box underneath it. She opened it up and let out a massive gasp at what was inside.

"Well, what is it?" Whisper peaked into the box once Twilight had removed the lid.

Inside the box were two brand new Yo-kai Watches. One was yellow with a blue strap and an adjustable dial pointing out of the sides. The numbers zero from two were on the watch, with instructions on how to use it. There were also two brand new Yo-kai Medals sitting besides it. One for Kyryn, and the other for Unikirin. The other Yo-kai Watch was a sky-blue chrome model with a dark blue strip underneath it. It was no different from the regular Yo-kai Watch, though, and just glistened more in the light.

"A Model Zero and a Yo-kai Watch U?" Whisper looked at both of Twilight's new watches. "That's the best Christmas gift you could've ever gotten! And Unikirin and Kyryn's medals are a great add-on!"

"Whoa, dude! Nice new watches!" Spike ran over and joined her, Whisper, and Jibanyan.

"Technically, they're Yo-kai Watches, but you're still right, Spike." Twilight tousled his scales and began opening more and more presents. Then, she stopped and opened her Medallium, revealing Nyanta Paws' Yo-kai Medal. Best. Christmas. Ever. Period.
