Chapter 24: The Next Step

"So, what now?" Was all that Applejack could say as Twilight walked towards the portal. "After what happened with them there Puppet Brothers, don't you think that you should stay a while and help us clean up?"

"Yes. If what Whisper says is true and that the crack is causing Yo-kai to infest our world, shouldn't you at least help us out try to fix the chaos?" Rarity raised a brow and gently slid her hand over the top of Twilight's Yo-kai Watch. "You are the only one who can communicate with and stop them from causing mischief.

"As much as I would love to stay in this world, girls, Yo-kai are running rampant in Equestria as well." Twilight looked back and forth between the portal and Canterlot High. "I can only be in one place. The Yo-kai Watch is a powerful tool and all, but it's not like you can just give them away willy-nilly."

"But then again, they have seen Yo-kai before and they do acknowledge their existence..." Whisper scratched his chin and eyed up the Rainbooms. "Plus, there's a copy of you right here wearing glasses. And if I'm not mistaken, aren't parallel universe counterparts supposed to be exactly the same as the real ones?"

"Whisper, even if those girls have those crystals around their necks, it's still not going to stop those Yo-kai if they decide to invade like that again." Twilight tipped her hand towards him. "Plus, we only now just know that there's an evil Yo-kai known as King Void trying to cause destruction on a widespread scale. I need to make stronger Yo-kai friends if I'm ever going to be able to defeat him."

"True, true. And a D-rank watch is only one small step on stopping King Void." Whisper looked down at Twilight's watch and gently tapped on the bubble dome. "But still, I just wish that there was a Timers and More shop somewhere here in this town. We are in the human world, after all..."

"Timers and More? I might be able to help ya with that."

The girls all turned to see a middle-aged man with silver hair walking up to them. He was wearing traditional clothing and had a little magnifying glass on his left eye. His hair luxuriously draped down his shoulders and back and bounced with each step that he took. He looked down at Twilight's Yo-kai Watch and whistled.

"Well now, it's been a while since I've seen this thing in our world." He picked up Twilight's arm and brought himself closer to the watch. "Mighty fine piece of craftsmanship if I do say so myself. But then again, I know all about the Yo-kai Watch by now. Down to the medals it goes with, the little chants that play when you use them there medals, and even right down to hearing the ticking of each little hand on it."

"Mr. Goodsight!" Whisper gushed and flew over to the man.

"You were expecting anyone else, soft serve?" Goodsight chuckled and crossed his arms. "It's good to see ya again."

"Who is this guy?" Rainbow Dash pointed her thumb towards Goodsight as she whispered to the others.

"Name's Mr. Goodsight." He walked up to Rainbow Dash and nodded. "Proud owner of Timers and More, Yo-kai expert, and much, much more." Goodsight smiled and gently pulled Twilight's arm, showing them the Yo-kai Watch once again. "I've been working on Yo-kai Watches ever since they came to this world. Upgradin', synchronizin', calibratin', and many more." He chuckled. "All except accessorising, though. I ain't really cut out fer that line of work."

"So does that mean that you can see Yo-kai too?" Fluttershy asked.

"Yep. And I know full well how ta upgrade that rinky-dink watch of hers all the way up each and every rank without her havin' ta go get every medal known to the Yo-kai race." Goodsight smiled. "It'd be my pleasure, miss..."

"Twilight. Twilight Sparkle. Princess of Friendship." She bowed before him. "I came from Equestria to save the students of CHS from some evil Yo-kai known as the Puppet Brothers. It wasn't easy either. Only having E and D rank Yo-kai made the situation a lot harder than it needed to be."

"Well by the looks of things, I'd say you've done yourself a pretty good job of it." Goodsight whistled, looking around at the peace and harmony at Canterlot High. "Anyone who can hold their own against a Boss Yo-kai like them is quite strong in my eyes. But, how would yo like to make yerself stronger, missy?"

"Stronger?" Twilight parroted.

"Yep. I'll set up a Timers and More shop here in this town, and then you can pop round any time you like fer a watch upgrade." Goodsight nodded. "But, I will warn you, it won't be cheap getting this thing upgraded."

"And here we go..." Rarity deadpanned. "How much will it be, sir?"

"Nothing. Nada. Zip," he said.

"WHAT?!" Everyone except Whisper and Jibanyan lurched back at Goodsight's response and fell onto their butts.

"I'm not one for believing in money myself. You have too much eventually, you get greedy, and you eventually blow it on something vague and impractical." Goodsight watched a number of cars drive by on the road. "Twilight Sparkle's gonna get her watch upgraded for free, provided that she runs me a few errands first."

"Errands?" Sci-Twi walked up to Goodsight. "Like what? Getting groceries? Doing laundry?"

"Nope. Twilight's just gonna have to prove herself that she can hold her own against some tougher Yo-kai if she wants to get her next rank." Goodsight looked back at the other Twilight and raised a brow. "Hey. Come to think of her title, I guess that'd explain why there were two of you." He looked at both Twilights carefully, examining each and every little detail. "One's a human girl without a watch, but the one from another world has a Yo-kai Watch. Interesting. Wonder what it'll bring the worlds to...

"Oh, forgive me. I'm rambling on again, ain't I?" Goodsight tipped his hand and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a second Yo-kai Watch that looked identical to the one that Pony Twilight was wearing. "Since you're both the same person, it should make sense that you have a Yo-kai watch as well, Twilight."

"A second Yo-kai Watch?" Twilight Sparkle watched Goodsight personally slip the watch around Sci-Twi's arm and tighten it in place.

"Wait. How come she gets the watch?" Rainbow Dash raised a brow and looked at Sci-Twi's watch before walking up to Goodsight, holding her arm out. "If she's getting one, then I want one too!"

"Ah, the youth and their petty demands." Goodsight let a few more giggles slip as he gently pushed Rainbow Dash away. "Twilight's a special case, my dear. She's only getting a watch because of that there pony princess from another world." He tittered as he stepped forward. "I can't really give out Yo-kai Watches to strangers. In the wrong hands, the Yo-kai Watch can be caused for all kinds of chaos and calamity. That's why I can only offer it to the pure of heart."

"Goodsight does make a valid point." Whisper nodded and flew around the two Twilights. "That's the very reason that the Yo-kai Watch can only ever be found by a chosen few. If everyone had Yo-kai Watches, it would lead to not only Yo-kai causing mischief, but some very nasty humans and ponies to follow in their footsteps..."

"What are you talking about?! We're pure of heart!" Rainbow Dash banged her chest with her hands. "We're the Rainbooms! We've saved the world four times already!"

"And yet, the only other one that I see worthy of wearing the Yo-kai Watch is this nice little lady over here." Goodsight walked past Rainbow Dash and the other Rainbooms and arrived at Sunset Shimmer. "I'm not exactly sure what it is, but there's something deep down inside of you that makes you stand out. Something that not many other people have these days." He pulled out another Yo-kai Watch and put it on Sunset's arm.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Why am I getting a Yo-kai Watch?" Sunset backed up and gently pushed her hands out, causing the watch to fall to the ground. "That seems a little too sudden, don't you think?"

"Nonsense. With the way this world's been attacked by those Puppet Brothers, we need all of the pure hearts we can get." Goodsight picked the watch up and put it back on Sunset's arm, making sure to fasten it up tight so that it wouldn't slide off of her arm. "We don't want another Mckraken or Dame Dedtime situation like the ones back in Springdale..."

"And besides, don't you two want to make even more friends who'll stand by your side?" Twilight asked, letting Whisper and Jibanyan mount themselves on her shoulders. "Given the fact that Yo-kai can't be hurt by the Magic of Friendship, it might be worth it to take the watch and befriend some in case something comes to avenge the Puppet Brothers. You don't want to be beaten like that again, do you?"

"But still, you have Whisper and Jibanyan and a bunch of other friends already!" Sci-Twi pushed the button on the side, popping the Yo-kai Watch's lens up so she could get a better look at them. "We only just got the Yo-kai Watches, and we've got no idea on how to use them or what friends we could make!"

"Then just watch out fer inspirited students at yer high school." Goodsight looked over towards two more students. "Speak of the devil, I think I see some right now."

"Huh?" The others all looked and saw a male student arguing with a female student.

"C'mon, Trixie. You can't seriously believe that you got high marks after that disastrous score!" the male student said.

"Nuh-uh-uh! The Great and Powerful Trixie is never wrong! No sirree bob!" Trixie cried out as she showed the papers to him. "Those teachers just don't understand the answers that well."

"Trixie, you're looking at trouble if you keep this up!" The male student's eyes were fixated on Trixie and not the scores from her test.

"That's snot it! If anything, Trixie will be rewarded greatly for her testing prowess!" She shook her head.

"Hey? What's going on here?" Sci-Twi walked up to the male student. "Is there a problem?"

"Twilight. You're never going to believe this, but Trixie's test score was incredibly low for the last test she was on." The male student showed Sci-Twi the results of Trixie's text.

"Well, isn't that a surprise?" Rainbow Dash deadpanned.

"Trixie's never scored high marks on a test!" Pinkie Pie bounced. "Most of the time, she often scribbles about herself rather than the famous figures in history. She also claimed that numbers were irrelevant in math, science was nothing compared to magic, and even—"

"We get it, Pinkie Pie. Trixie's terrible at tests." Applejack covered Pinkie's mouth while she was still talking. "Anyway, go on."

"The weird part though, is that Trixie's denying the fact that she failed and is instead saying that she got really high marks this time around," the student said. "Every time anyone else tells her otherwise, she always says 'nuh-uh-uh', 'No sirree bob', or 'that's snot it'. She's gonna face detention if she keeps going like this."

"Well, I said there'd be inspirited students. And there it is straight from the horses' mouth." Goodsight eyed up Trixie, seeing the purple inspiriting flames around her. "Guess this is a good a time as ever to get either human Twilight or that bacon-haired girl a new Yo-kai friend."

"I have a name, you know. It's Sunset Shimmer." She turned to face Goodsight. "And what do you mean by that?"

"What I mean is that there's a Yo-kai inspriting poor Trixie here, and it's your job to get it out of her." Goodsight came up to Sunset's watch and gently tapped on the button on the side, popping up the lens. "Just look through this little thingamajig and you'll see for yourself."

"Alright..." Sunset pushed her eye against the lens to get a good look. Sure enough, a little burst of smoke appeared behind Trixie.

Flying behind Trixie was not one, but three Yo-kai. They all looked exactly identical in every way, apart from one in particular who had a long strand of snot poking out of his nose. They all wore glasses and had bowl-cut hairstyles, smiling at their handiwork.

"Those are the Nosirs." Whisper pointed out the three Yo-kai beside Trixie. "If you're inspirited by one, you won't admit to anything at all and deny what everyone else says. They might seem like three separate entities, but in truth, the Nosirs are just one Yo-kai. It's the whole triple act thing that throws many people off."

"The name certainly fits." Twilight looked at the Nosirs. "Now, how do we get them to stop inspiriting Trixie?"

"Might be a bit tough. They are incredibly stubborn. Even more so than Applejack at times." Whisper scratched his chin and eyed up the Yo-kai. "But the options are still the same. Negotiation or confrontation as usual."

"If it's a Tough tribe Yo-kai, then confrontation's the best way to go." Twilight pulled out her Yo-kai Medallium and looked through her medals. She mulled over the Yo-kai to be summoned to face the Nosirs.

"Well, technically, they're Eerie tribe Yo-kai. But given the way that they act, they should be Tough tribe Yo-kai instead." Whisper nodded as Twilight retrieved the medal that she wanted.

"Don't you think you're just jumping to conclusions, Twilight?" Sunset Shimmer asked as Twilight plucked the medal.

"They're probably going to say no to everything, including our attempts at trying to persuade them." Twilight clutched the medal tightly in her hand. "There's only one thing that we can do at times like this.

"Come on out, my Yo-kai friend! Calling Roughraff!" Twilight threw the medal up into the air, causing it to bounce off of the roof of the school and land back in the palm of her hand again. "Yo-kai Medal! Do your thing!" She put the medal into the watch, but didn't realise that it was put in upside down.

Instead of hearing a summoning chant, she heard a chime that indicated that something was wrong.

"Nuh-uh-uh! That's snot it!" The watch spoke in a nasally voice.

"What?!" Twilight glanced down at the watch. "B-but, the medal's IN the Yo-kai Watch! Why isn't it letting me summon Roughraff?!"

"That's snot it!" One of the Nosirs came up to Twilight.

"You've got the medal inserted the wrong way!" The second one pointed it out.

"No summons today! No sirree bob!" The third one added.

"Huh?" Twilight took another look at the medal in her Yo-kai Watch. Instead of seeing Roughraff's portrait, she saw the logo for the Tough tribe instead. She slowly pulled the medal out of the Yo-kai Watch and examined it carefully. "But I put it in, didn't I?"

"I probably should've explained this before you chose your medal, but they need to be put into the Yo-kai Watch in a specific way for them to be summoned." Whisper took the medal from Twilight and showed her both sides. "Do you see Roughraff's face on the top side?"

"Yeah." Twilight nodded as Whisper flew back down to the slot.

"When you put a Yo-kai Medal into the watch, you always put it so that you can see the medal right-side up in the watch, with the tribe logo facing the bottom half. Put it in upside down or the wrong way around, and the Yo-kai won't be summoned." Whisper slid Roughraff into Twilight's watch the correct way. "Like this."

"SUMMONING: TOUGH!" The watch burst to life and shot out orange beams right in Whisper's face. He was blasted against the ceiling and crashed into it violently as Roughraff was materialized.

Gruff stuff!
Rough bluff!
Red ban, jacket stand, bling, blang
Tough!

"Roughraff!" He slammed his fist into his other hand and eyed up the Nosirs.

"The Nosirs were helping us?" Twilight raised a brow at the three Yo-kai that had been inspiriting Trixie.

"Thank you, you three." Sci-Twi walked up to the Nosirs and gently held out her hand for a handshake. This caused the three triplets to back away slowly. "I thought that you were going to be mean and nasty, but it turns out that you were actually quite helpful."

"What?" The first Nosir recoiled. "We've never received praise like that before! No sirree bob..."

"Whoever you are, I just want to ask... can we be friends, maybe?" The second Nosir held out his hand and slowly came back to Twilight.

"Aww, how cute. You're all shy of being complimented." Sci-Twi chuckled and shook hands with the Nosirs. "That's fine. There's no reason to feel ashamed of being thanked. You can be with me for as long as you want."

"Th-thank you. Thank you very much." The third Nosir cracked a small smile and wiped the snot dangling from his nose as a Yo-kai Medal appeared between them and Sci-Twi. "Just put that little thing in the medal and we'll be there in a flash. Simple as that."

"Uh-huh. And we're not just handy-dandy in combat." The second Nosir nodded. "We can be helpful if you need someone to say no to something, or to help others call out the wrong answers to help their friends."

"Either way. we're here for you. And we'll always be here for you." The first one bowed along with his two brothers before the three of them vanished together.

"How curious. Never seen a Nosir admit to something in their entire life." Goodsight walked up and examined Sci-Twi's Yo-kai Medal. "You've got a real knack fer this sorta thing, human Twilight."

"We're really gonna have to sort out a way to tell the two apart..." Pinkie Pie looked at both Twilights together from every angle. "We'll need to think of a special nickname for the other one. Like Twilight Twinkle, or Twily-Wily. Oh! Oh! I think I've got it! How about Sci-Twi?"

"Sci-Twi?" Everyone else asked together.

"Actually... that sounds pretty nice." Sci-Twi nodded and patted Pinkie on the back. "Science-fiction Twilight Sparkle. It fits me pretty well, don't you think?"

"I quite like it. Though, I would have preferred calling them Twilight One and Twilight Two myself." Whisper folded his arms and gave both Twilights a smile. "But whatever floats your boat."

"Either way. Pony Twilight, human Twilight, Sci-Twi. Whatever you decide yer name to be, you, your pony counterpart, and Sunset Shimmer are always welcome in Timers and More." Goodsight shook hands with both Twilights and walked out of the school. "If'n ya need me, I'll be in the city. Just look out for the sign. Ya can't miss it."

"Thank you, Mr. Goodsight!" Sci-Twi waved him off as he walked out of the door and off towards the road. "I'll be sure to see you again!"

Goodsight turned back and gave Sci-Twi a return wave before he walked off of the campus and off to the left, where the city was nestled.

Sci-Twi looked down at the medal for the Nosirs and examined both sides carefully. She could see the Eerie tribe's eye poking out of the back side while all three of the Nosirs adorned the front side. She wondered about where she would put her medals as she got a better look at all of the different parts of her medal.

"Oh! I almost forgot. Since they're foraying into the world of Yo-kai like you have, it wouldn't be fair if they went unprepared." Whisper reached into his chest once more and pulled out two brand new Yo-kai Medalliums. He then dropped them and brushed his head, beginning to sweat. "Phew. I've never tried bringing out two medalliums at once. I didn't think that ghosts could get winded, but there you go. Shows what I know...

"Anyway. Just take your new medal and place into the book, Sci-Twi." Whisper floated down and retrieved one of the medalliums, laying it in Sci-Twi's hands and opening it up, revealing all of the blank spots where medals could be put in. "It's a must-have for any Yo-kai befriending extraordinaire! Why, I don't know a single Yo-kai loving person who doesn't have a book like this!"

"Whisper. You've probably only ever been stuck with one guy. I'm sure that you've never seen something like that before." Twilight Sparkle deadpanned.

"W-well, I... I-I-I, I've never really seen many Yo-kai hunters before." He began to blush again and waved his hands in front of his face. "Just you, Nate, Katie, Inaho, and now your two new friends. I would just imagine that it was tradition to have these Yo-kai Medalliums."

"You're saying you don't know?" Sunset Shimmer cocked her head to the side as she grabbed her new book.

"I-I-I..." Whisper was at a loss for words and was beginning to choke on his response. "What are you all looking at me for?! I don't know whether or not it's the law to hold a Yo-kai Medallium! I just simply assumed! That's all!"

Everyone else couldn't help but share a laugh at Whisper's little outburst while he simply hung his head and sighed, placing his hand on his left temple.

A throne room with bright and colourful markings was filled with four different figures. Two of which were Venoct and Kyubi. They were standing before a silhouette of what looked like a human and a centaur. The two Yo-kai were kneeling before the figures.

"So, the Puppet Brothers have fallen?" the centaur asked. The voice was revealed to be a female's.

"Yes, my queen." Venoct bowed and nodded. "Twilight Sparkle of Equestria weakened them long enough for us to deal the finishing blow."

"It still won't be enough." The other figure took a few steps forward. The voice was male. "Defeating one of King Void's lieutenants won't be enough to stop this monster. We should strike him at the heart and end him before he gets the chance to make another attack!"

"Patience, Nurarihyon." The centaur laid one of her hands on Nurarihyon's shoulders, revealing that it shone all the different colours of the rainbow. "Twilight Sparkle has already faced multiple different threats before, as her world's history dictates. We have learned about her tales fighting Nightmare Moon, Discord, Lord Tirek, and Starlight Glimmer. She truly is worth our time. And, if used correctly, she can help us end this war and slay King Void once and for all."

"Are you sure that Twilight is ready for this?" Kyubi slowly stood upright and approached her queen.

"There will be a chosen one that shall slay the darkness and blanket all our worlds with light and hope." The centaur slowly stepped forward into the light. "She will face the darkness head on and overcome all of her senses of fear, worry, and hesitation to defeat the demon king and save all of the worlds from destruction.

"If Twilight Sparkle is the one that the prophecy foretold, then we must make sure that she is ready for the future." The queen nodded. "That is why, we must watch her and make sure that she has the strength to overcome more of the king's dark forces." She looked down at the two Yo-kai. "Venoct. Kyubi. I'm tasking you two with a new mission. I want you to scout out Princess Twilight and watch her twenty-four seven. Every little thing she does, right down from brushing her teeth to sleeping at night, I want you to watch over her and make sure that she doesn't see you."

"Yes, your highness!" Venoct nodded and disappeared immediately in a puff of smoke.

"Before I leave, I just want to ask something." Kyubi took another step forward. "What if she's not ready? What if she falls to King Void's stronger minions?"

"She won't fall. Her friends will make sure of that," the centaur said. "Pony, human, and Yo-kai alike, all of her friends will stand with her and help her overcome the darkness that plagues our world." She sighed. "Now go. You and Venoct have a job to do."

"Understood." Kyubi sighed and vanished as well.

"With all due respect, your highness, we are running out of time here." Nurarihyon turned to face the queen. "The Yo-kai World is already in ruin after his last attack, and those Dark Yo-kai he keeps stationing here aren't helping us rebuild it!"

"Don't be hasty, Nurarihyon." The centaur nodded. "Fate is not something that can be left to timing. It comes whenever it feels like it. Lord Enma knew this all too well, and it took him some time before he was worthy enough to rule the Yo-kai World."

"I know that. It still pains me to know that he's gone." Nurarihyon sighed and looked down at his black robe. "He was my king, and I was loyal to him for eons. Way before you even came into this world."

"True. Lord Enma was an inspiration for us all." The queen looked over at a stained glass window, showing a male with red skin and blonde hair wearing a red robe. "His words are what united the Yo-kai and human worlds, enabling the Yo-kai Watch's creation. Without him, we would all have been doomed when such threats like Mckraken and Dedtime came and plagued the human world..."

"Doomed you say?" Kin whispered while watching from afar, hiding in the shadows with Gin beside her.

"I think we've found the best way to stop Twilight Sparkle before she even begins!" Gin nodded as she pulled out a grey stone with a red spiral design on top.

Kin and Gin shared a chuckle between each other before they both faded away into the darkness, vanishing from the throne room entirely.
