Chapter 22: Troodons, Mosasaurs, and Pterosaurs

-Canterlot-

Ponies worked to lift tall wooden pillars, using them to support the crumbling outer wall of Equestria's capital building. Clydesdale horses pulled large carts of bent iron, remnants of the castle's gates. Talon, Unicorn Wizard, and Toucan helped to remove rubble from the clash between the Indominus Rex and One Eye that took place hours earlier. Talon used her strength, the Dimetrodon used his magic, and Toucan used his wings and paws to lift large pieces of brick and metal.

-Inside Canterlot-

Bone Digger pulled the struggling gryphon and caged Troodon through the halls toward the throne room, not taking any notice to the fact that the toothed Berries was trying his best to gnaw through the rope around his thin neck. The trio was soon met with a truly massive siren and a unicorn walking alongside her.

"Whoa." Bone Digger muttered, looking up at the deep, oceanic blue siren mare with wide eyes. "Who's yer friend, here?" she then asked the brightly colored unicorn.

"This is Mosey." the mare replied. 'Mosey' rolled her eyes in annoyance at the ridiculous name.

"Mosey?" the paleontological earth mare questioned.

"She's a Mosasaurus." the unicorn acknowledged, noticing the gryphon and raptor. "What... the heck kind of a gryphon is THAT?" she asked, lifting an eyebrow.

Berries lunged at the mare in rage, only to find the barrel of a large shotgun shoved into his maw. The Dimorphodon turned gryphon uttered a gurgling growl before pulling the gun out of his mouth. The unicorn mare looked at the earth mare with surprise at the speed and selflessness of her actions.

"Thanks." she said as they continued toward the Throne Room.

"Not a problem." Bone Digger replied.

-Canterlot Throne Room-

"Repairs are being made, but Queen Chrysalis and that mirror stallion won't waste any time in launching attacks at the vulnerable castle." Captain Douglas Gordon explained to Princess Celestia.

"I understand what you're saying. What confidence do you have that we can defend my subjects and their homes?" she asked in response, turning to the Gotengo's main pilot.

"I feel that to defend Ponyville and it's residents we will need to look to Canterlot's guards. In particular, Rex. If he's really what the towns ponies are claiming he is, then we don't have a problem on our hooves." Captain Gordon acknowledged, trying to get Celestia to allow him to work with the rumored Tyrant Lizard King.

"He is what they think of him... But he is in no condition to be protecting the populace right now. Defending Canterlot from his mirror brother did quite a number on him, so using Rex to defend our ponies is not optional.

"And his friends? If they have the same abilities as their leader than we still have little to worry about." Gordon said.

"The white unicorn will not be allowed. If what Rex's friends have told me is true, then Dawn is not to be trusted." the celestial monarch exclaimed. "But the others should do just fine."

It was then that the twin doors to the room opened with a creak, revealing a gryphon, a siren, two ponies, and a caged animal. "Ah, Miss Digger." Princess Celestia started. "I take it you captured the last Troodon?" she asked.

"Yes, Your Majesty." Bone Digger said, briefly bowing to the floor. "I also captured this slippery bastard." she growled in irritation, tugging the rope, which, in turn, threw Berries to the floor with a choking cough.

"IT BURNSSSS!" he gurgled, gasping for breath and tugging the rope around his neck.

A frown crossed Celestia's face as her horn glowed. The doors gently closed with a click and the rope slid itself off of the gryphon's neck. "Where did you find him?" she asked the paleontologist, gently lowering herself to the frightened Dimorphodon.

"He was being attacked by the Troodons. I caught him and decided to bring him here." the dusty earth mare responded.

"Kind of a weird place." Mosey muttered to herself, looking around the tall room at the paintings on the walls and ceiling. "Where am I?" she then spoke up, lifting an eyebrow.

"Canterlot." Princess Celestia replied, rising back up and letting her gaze fall on the former Mosasaurus. It surprised her how tall the mare was. Even leaning forward to sniff the alicorn with curiosity, the siren still towered over her. "Hey, hey, hey!" Celestia exclaimed, pushing Mosey away from her with slight disgust on her voice.

"What?!" the deep blue mare said, shrugging her shoulders.

"Who do you think you are to SMELL the monarch?!" the ivory alicorn shouted. She was normally a very calm pony, but when it came to her space being invaded by complete strangers instead of friends or family, that's where she drew the line.

"Geez! How was I supposed to know?!" Mosey growled defensively, reeling back and baring her sharp, serrated teeth.

"SHUT UP!!" Captain Douglas Gordon shouted. Princess Celestia glared up at the stallion, disgust crossing her face at the lower class pony's order. "There are worse problems than arguing about SMELLING each other, alright?" he growled.

Bone Digger and the unicorn mare nodded in agreement. Mosey snorted and backed away from the celestial mare. It was then that the group listened to a small chirp. Looking down at the cage, Princess Celestia saw the Troodon pacing the cage, it's eyes wide with curiosity and confusion.

"Son of a gun." Bone Digger exclaimed, looking down at the frightened, feathered reptile. "Well, look who's awake." she continued, clanking the barrel of her gun against the iron frame. The small animal hissed in irritation and attempted to swing it's long claws at the paleontologist's arm. "Little bastard!" she growled, reeling back.

"Miss Digger, please do not harass the creature." Celestia said to the dusty mare, placing a hoof on her shoulder.

"Sure." Bone Digger grumbled, lifting herself to her hooves.

"Sooooo, why am I a, whatever you call a water horse, and not a Mosasaurus?" Mosey interrupted.

"A siren? Probably the same reason that your friends aren't in their original form." the alicorn mare acknowledged. "Entering the portal changed your form."

"That doesn't answer my question. WHY did entering the portal change my form?" the siren asked, rolling her eyes.

"I think that that information can be found among the archives." Princess Celestia replied. "I hope you like to read."

"Read? I've spent my life swimming around a lake. I'm pretty sure books aren't waterproof." the primeval aquatic lizard said, her voice lacking even an ounce of respect.

The sun alicorn rolled her eyes.

"Yay. Reading rules." Captain Gordon grumbled sarcastically. Bone Digger nodded in agreement. Berries saw his chance and tried to slink away, only to found himself enveloped in a golden aura.

"SSSSSSS!" he hissed, writhing to free himself of the telekinetic grip on his body.
