Everything Dies
Chapter 93: Book 5: The Hunt - Chapter 4
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAcross from the mansion, on the corner of the opposing street, was another house, smaller but still pretty big. Instead of a fence, it had a natural barrier of hedges and trees. Not only did it look nicer but it was perfect for taking cover in (especially if one of your number could manipulate plant life). The girls looked at what lay before them. A brick wall with wrought iron spikes on top; interrupted at regular intervals by concrete pillars with cameras on top. At the wrought iron gate (likewise topped with spikes) stood two guards with visible guns. The house it protected sat far back up a driveway atop a hill; giving anyone inside a perfect view of the obstruction free yard.
"So, what are you thinking?" asked Rainbow Dash impatiently.
Sunset shook her head. "There's no way to climb the fence. Even if there was; they'd see us coming a mile off. No way to mount a sneak attack."
"So, let's rush `em," Rainbow answered back, ready to rock.
"I'm still not convinced that's best," Twilight said skeptically.
"So what do you suggest then?" Rainbow was more than annoyed now. She wanted to attack, to make them all pay, and was tired of waiting.
"Take out the sentries," Adagio said almost absently.
"What?" Rainbow said, even more annoyed.
Sonata smiled wide as she understood what Adagio meant. "Take out the cameras!" she said enthusiastically. "When you want to attack a castle, you take out the sentries patrolling the wall first."
Adagio smiled and nodded at Sonata. "We take out the cameras along the wall."
"And how exactly do we do that?" Rainbow was annoyed still but interested.
"Squirrels and birds are such pesky animals," Adagio said slyly, looking at Fluttershy. "Always causing mischief and wrecking electronics."
"I get it!" exclaimed Twilight. "Fluttershy, get the animals to take out the cameras. You can do that right?"
Fluttershy nodded happily.
"Not all at once. All the cameras going down at once might raise their alarms," Adagio cautioned.
"Not too long though. It's getting dark out. I'd rather we do this while we still have some light," Rarity said.
Fluttershy nodded again. She lowered her head, closed her eyes for a while, opened them, raised her head, and said, "It's done."
"Ok, so then what?" Rainbow still didn't know where this was going. The cameras might be down, but so what. The wall and guards still remained.
"The wall, it has vines growing on it; see?" Twilight said, pointing to the wall. "Apple Jack, can you use those to take out those two guards?"
"Yep," Apple nodded.
"Good. Now Pinkie, you and Sonata are The Trickster; can you change your shape to look like them?"
"Sure. No pro-blame-o," Pinkie said happily.
"Alright. Apple Jack takes the guards out, Pinkie and Sonata impersonate the guards, pretend they captured us, and takes us up to the house. Once inside, we wait to Chrysalis comes out and then we attack," Twilight revealed her full plan and everyone smiled and agreed.
The girls then waited until Fluttershy gave the all clear on the cameras. Twilight nodded at Apple. She raised her hands, palms down, fingers splayed, pointing at the wall. Immediately the vines came alive and wrapped around the guards. They wrapped around their wrists, ankles, and throats. They pulled them against the wall, slowly engulfing them until nothing was left to be seen of them.
Apple lowered her hands and everyone looked at her and each other. This was it. No one dared speak it but everyone knew what had just happened - Apple Jack had just killed two people. They had killed two people. They had crossed the threshold now. There was no turning back anymore. They weren't kids anymore and there was blood on their hands. Such a monumental event, the taking of a life, done so easily, so quickly. It seemed so frivolous, so unimportant, that it made it seem even worse somehow.
Still, there was no time for this. Twilight nodded to Pinkie and Sonata who metamorphed into the two guards. They walked over to where they had been and picked up the guns that the vines had, what? - spat back? They didn't know how to put, but picked them up regardless. They nodded at the other girls who came across the road and joined them. Pinkie went up to what looked like a call box and pressed the call button.
"Hey," a gruff voice from the other side responded, "what's going on out there? All our cameras went down. Stupid animals got at all of them."
Pinkie realized she didn't know what her guard sounded like. She hesitated for a second and then decided to do a generic male voice. "We got some presents her for the queen. Those girlies tried to sneak in but we got them."
There was silence for a moment then the voice spoke again. "What's wrong with your voice? I'm sending Dean down to lead you guys up."
"Copy," Pinkie said and left off the button. She looked at the others in fear.
"Not as optimal as we wanted but still more than doable," Sunset said encouragingly.
Dean came down, opened the gate and looked at the girls. He then looked at Pinkie, then Sonata. He nodded at them and motioned them up with his head. They followed him up to the house. Once they got there, he knocked in three burst of three. The door opened and another man stepped forward. The girls gasped except for Pinkie and Sonata who were barely able to stop themselves. It was the chief of police himself.
"Alright," he said in a perverted way. "Get them in here."
They all went inside. The girls first then Pinkie and Sonata, with Dean coming in last; closing the door behind him as he did.
"Dean, go call Queen Chrysalis. Let her know we got them." Dean nodded and left. "You'll have to forgive him. The Queen cut his tongue out for speaking out of turn," he said with a laugh. "Well, you're the little girlies our precious queen was so uptight about. Hmm, I'm sure going to have fun working all of you over before we kill you. So young, so fresh, and so tight still."
He reached out to take Sunset's face when Adagio smashed him in the side of his head. He stumbled backward and looked up in shock. It was then Pinkie and Sonata transformed back into themselves and pointed their guns at him.
"Surprise," they both said in unison.
Twilight stepped forward and said, "We are and we're ending this tonight." With that; all the girls (except Adagio) transformed. Rainbow, Fluttershy, and Sonata sprouted big, beautiful wings, pony ears, and tails. Rarity, Pinkie, and Apple Jack sprouted the ears and tail. The four incarnates sprouted the wings, tail, ears, but also a horn of energy from their foreheads. Rarity, Apple Jack, and Fluttershy had long, Greco-Roman style dresses; Rarity and Fluttershy's were white while Apple's was tan. The rest were sheathed in armor.
The chief looked shocked then he looked at Adagio and scowled, "And what about you?"
"Me? Oh I'm just your garden variety psychopath," she deadpanned.
The chief then began to laugh uncontrollably.
"It wasn't that funny," Adagio said confused.
"No, it's not that," he said as he struggled to breathe. "It's all of you. You're going to finish this tonight; HA! She's not even here. She's gone. We were just left as back up just in case you actually decided to fight." He then started laughing again.
"Where she go," Sunset asked angrily, stepping forward, drawing her sword and pointing it his throat.
"Oh sweetie, what are you going to do? Kill me? Go for it. I know I'm dead already. At least you'll make it quick. So, be my guest."
"There are things worse than death," Adagio said while turning over her hand to reveal her cell phone. "Nifty little things these smart phones are. They're an music player, an internet search device, camera," she drew out that word. "As soon as the door opened, I thought it might be in my best interest to turn mine on. Imagine the video suddenly being uploaded to You Tube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and all the rest. I'm sure your fellow cops would just love to see it. Am I right? Oh and imagine all the criminals you locked up, just waiting for you to turn up in their prison. Tell me; how tight are you?"
The chief went ashen. "You wouldn't?" he asked fearfully.
"I told you, I'm a psychopath," Adagio bluntly said.
He looked back at Sunset. "Visoko, Bosnia. She left this morning. She said . . . " before he could finish a shot rang out and his head exploded. The girls looked over and saw Dean standing there who quickly turned the gun on himself.
"Oh crap!" Shimmer said in horror.
Twilight turned around and said, "It doesn't matter. We got what we needed. We need to leave now."
The girls started to leave when hands materialized from the floor and grabbed them. They looked down in shock and surprise. Then hands came out of the walls and ceiling, then arms, then bodies. Each showed signs of extreme abuse and mutilation. The ones that came from the ceiling floated in the air. All moaned in excruciating pain. The girls struck at the ones that held them. They were able to free themselves except Adagio who was saved by Sunset. They were free but surrounded.
"Who are you?" Demanded Sunset.
"They are the hungry dead," a different spirit said. He had long hair, a skeletal face, and burning red eyes. He was dressed like someone from the eighteenth century and was holding a whip. "The souls of the ones sacrificed in this house over the years and they have come to feed."
