Chapter 1: Start your quest

Princess Luna sat down on her balcony, overlooking the land bellow her that was lit by her beautiful moonlight. Beside her sat Rainbow Dash, one of the elements of harmony. Both of them had frowns on their faces, it had been a few days since their shared coltfriend, Metal Sonic, had left on his latest adventure. Both of them missed him terribly, as did most of the night guard. During his stay at the castle Metal had managed to earn the respect of the Thestrals by defeating Luna in a one on one fight in the dreamscape. He had also made Luna's night court more entertaining by doing a bunch of random things when he got bored. Over time he managed to capture the Night Princess's heart.

Rainbow had met him shortly after he had awoken from his ten year stasis, he challenged her to a race in order to test his speed. That ended up with Rainbow crashing into a mountain face first, after she had recovered they both ended up crashing into a hill outside of Ponyville. They had many more races and challenges, considering each other rivals. Up until Metal had agreed to preform in a Thestral theatre, after his performance Rainbow started questioning her feelings for the metal hedgehog. After a brief discussion with Fluttershy she was able to come to terms with her newfound love for Metal.

Shortly after both mares found out about the others feelings which then started a full on war, Metal being the battlefield. One night after recovering from a hangover, Metal figured out how he could have both mares. One was asleep during the day and another at night, Metal didn't need sleep at all. After getting the mares to agree and apologise for their behaviour, Metal had one less thing to worry about.

During this time he met another displaced robo-hog, a Mecha Sonic that goes by the name Gale. The two quickly became friends and visit each other often. Soon after Metal met another displaced, a Slenderwoman named Lisa who had been dating Gale. Metal has one specific weakness, he hates seeing girls upset or sad. So when Lisa told him that her world had either been destroyed or lost he didn't last long before he offered to find her world.

He managed to find the broken portal to her world but pieces of it had been scattered around the multiverse. This resulted in him accepting the task of finding the missing components. After preparing for the journey into the central hub if the multiverse Metal jumped through the portal and has yet to be heard from.

Luna looked over to the tired Rainbow Dash. "Miss Dash, you should really sleep, you haven't slept in two days." She stated in a worried voice.

"N-No, I'm fine...*yawn*...I'll just sit here with you." Luna rolled her eyes and cast a sleep spell on the rainbow haired mare, sending her off soundly into a deep slumber. Luna levitated Rainbow over to her bed and put her under the covers before returning to the balcony.

Looking out at a familiar floating cloud home far off high in the sky she smiled. "It still amazes me how Metal was able to create such a magnificent Sky Palace for himself." She remembered the times that Metal had spent with her there either playing video games or using one of his many mirror portals to travel to places he called 'zones', her favourite being Ice Cap Zone. "I wonder what Metal is up to right now." She said to no one in particular as she stared at her partner's home in the sky

Meanwhile in the multiverse central city

The city that housed the greatest displacers and displaced was lit beautifully by its glowing neon buildings. Happy faces on everyone that walked through its magnificent streets. In the centre of this great city there was a huge building with lines of neon energy flowing out of it and into various portals in the air around it. The building was mainly comprised of large red and pink crystals. Outside of the giant entrance lay a large fountain that didn't have water flowing out of it, it had a black liquid that gave off an Image of deep space. The sky above the city was black with the tiniest tint of red, making the city seem dark and only lit by the glowing buildings.

A cloaked figure walked up the crystal steps and through the large doors which had people and various other creatures coming in and out constantly. The figure moved along with the crowd until he came to a desk with a crystalic humanoid creature.

"Hello, what can I do for you?" The figure reached around to its rear and grabbed a piece of paper and handed it to the creature.

"I need a pass into the backstreet territories, I have urgent business in the universes there." The figure voice was robotic but not at all monotone, giving more of a feel of a young man. The creature looked over the paper and nodded.

"Ok sir, I'm just going to need some details." The creature handed the figure a form to fill out. "Please take your time." The figure picked up a pen and began to fill out the form. "Alright, I'm just going to need a copy of your token." The figure handed him a large gold ring. "Oh, a Sonic The Hedgehog displaced huh? Don't really see a lot of them in the main hub these days, not too popular with the backstreet gangs other than a few."

"Is that so?" The creature nodded.

"So, what business do you have in the backstreet territories?" The figure handed him the filled out form.

"A few portal shards got scattered around there, I promised the displaced of that word I'd get them back."

"That wouldn't have anything to do with that crazy displacer Xram would it?"

"Yeah, from what I know anyway. I actually helped in defeating Xram, although I didn't do a whole lot." The creature just gasped.

"You were there?" The figure nodded. "That means you saw that kid of that displacer Author right?" It nodde again. "Man, you must be really lucky to have your universe all the way out in that separate multiverse. A lot less crazed displacers and displaced out there."

"Yeah, but we have to deal with stuff like Xram and The Nighmare Fuels(1)." The creature looked over the form and its eyes widened.

"You're one of Authors displaced?" He said in an excited voice that was almost shouting.

"Keep that quiet, I don't need trouble when I'm looking for the shards." The creature nodded and filed the form and placed the token in a capsule. He then walked through a door and came out several seconds later with a glowing green card.

"Here ya go, green-level entrance pass." The figure nodded and took the card. "I wish you luck, Metal Sonic." The figure pulled down its hood and revealed the face of Metal Sonic.

"Thank you." With that Metal began walking out of the central building. He took off the cloak and put it in his storage, now freely walking about in his true form. "Now, let's get down to business."
