Blood Red Shadows
Chapter 52: Act III, Chapter 5: Shock And Awe
Previous Chapter Next Chapter*Warning!* *Warning!* *Dimensional Jump imminent!*
The intercom alerted the rest of the crew as the sirens continued to drone on and on, and the alarms continued to ring. Alex went to explain everything to his teammates and ensure they'd be ready once they're all in Remnant.
"Okay, team! Here's the plan! Dimensional Jump is in three minutes, the jump should take about 30 seconds. After that, we'll need to get our asses to the jets and the landing crafts and get moving! The target in question is located near the center, so it's a six hour drive to our target destination. The ship will stay off the coast and fire when ready. Sound good? Great! Now strap in, we gotta move!" Alex explained, moving to one of the designated drop seats, large, gyroscopes with chairs in the middle with more straps than it should. He went in and strapped in tight, Twilight and Vanoss were on his left and right, with Ruby directly across him.
*Warning!* *Dimensional Jump in T-Minus 60 seconds!*
"Aww, yeah!" Vanoss nodded.
"This is the ship's first time doing a Dimensional Jump?" Twilight inquired.
"The second, actually." Alex replied.
"We got dis! BRING ON THE EPICNESS!!" Delirious screamed from Vanoss's right.
"This is going to be AWESOME!" Nora beamed.
"Hell yeah!" Wildcat joined.
"Are you sure everything's going to be fine..?" Jaune nervously asked.
"We'll be fine, Chief, that is, unless you get motion-sick easily." Frost assured.
Jaune moaned.
"I'm so excited! And terrified, but mostly excited!" Pinkie bounced in her seat.
Fluttershy whimpered, crying and not looking up.
"Don't worry, Fluttershy. It'll be like flying!" Rainbow tried to calm her down.
"You good, Blast?" Ember asked.
"Yeah. Haunt?!" Blast craned his head towards Haunt and Skirmish's direction.
"Ready for action, baby!" He yelled back.
"I'm all set, I hope everyone else is." Skirmish calmly stated.
"Hey, Alex." Kat asked Alex.
"Yeah?" Alex answered.
"Did you ever imagine, in your wildest dreams, you'd be here?" She smiled.
"F**k no! If you ask me, I thought I was done for at '51!" Alex replied.
"What exactly does this machine do, again?" Cloudchaser asked.
"We'll be playing real life Titanfall once we land!" Terroriser rallied the rest of his group.
"More like Bioshock!" Mini argued.
*T-Minus in 5.*
"We'll be fine! Stop worrying!" Ruby told Fluttershy.
"I swear, the Valians and Atlesians are gonna shit themselves..." Mako muttered.
*4...*
"I'll bet you five Lien they don't!" Yang challenged.
"Deal, blondie." Mako retorted.
*3...*
"Oh, fock...oh fock! OH, FOCK!!" Nogla hyperventilated.
"Daithi, calm down." Weiss sighed, pitying the Irishman.
"I hate this fan fiction, boys.." He moaned.
*2...*
"You good, Belladonna?" Russell asked.
"I'm fine." She calmly stated.
"Well, shit, I'm not!" Russell panicked.
*1...*
"BLAST OFFF!!!" Moo yelled.
"KEEP 'ER GOIN'!!!" Vanoss added
"LUDICROUS SPEED, GO!" Kat joked.
"ADVENTURE!!!" Sirius cheered
"THIS IS GONNA SUCK!!" Blast ducked down.
"DROP THE BASS!" Vinyl yelled.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!" Delirious screamed.
The entire room seemed to suddenly go zero-G, various personal items floating and Alex personally felt his stomach fly into his neck. The windows turned bright red before fading into a light blue color.
"BRACE YOURSELVES!!" Alex ordered.
The drop was immediate, the lights flickered off and they all felt the effect of a 9 million-something pound ship drop into a wormhole.
At this point, the seats adjusted them to face downwards into the floor to ensure their equilibrium as they plummeted from Equestria directly into Remnant.
The ship suddenly crashed into water, displacing various organs in Alex's body. The Unity Team made a collective sigh in relief as they unstrapped themselves from their seats and collapsed on the ground below.
"Heh heh. And fluush." Vanoss laughed weakly.
"Holy shit." Delirious gaped.
"Is that puke?!" Twilight recoiled.
"Sorry.." Jaune sheepishly replied.
"This is why I don't hang with the Doctor!" Russell groaned.
"Uuuh..." Ruby moaned.
"You okay?" Kat asked, helping her up before the two of them fell over.
Rainbow tried flying, but was so dizzy she couldn't stay in air properly and fell on her side.
"Gyroscopic seats don't do shit..." Sirius shook.
"That was AWESOME!" Yang laughed, in stark contrast to everyone else.
"YAYY!" Pinkie high-fived the huntress, leaping high to meet the girl's fist.
"Only those two..." Alex chuckled.
"Come on, Cloudy." Said Flitter, who had been third or fourth to recover, as helped her sister up.
"Everyone good?" Alex asked.
A few nauseated replies entailed that everyone was A-Okay.
"Iris, where are we?" Alex turned to Iris.
"Off the coast of Vytal, Valian aircraft flying in above us and the Atlesian Carrier Righteous Fury is currently 2 knots away.
"How far are we from the landing zone?" Ruby asked.
"Enough that we're ready to engage. The coast is not far off." Iris stated.
"Let's move out!" Alex ordered.
The group charged out, along with the other 5,000 crew members who survived the Zombie attack earlier that week.
"Evan's crew, head to the flight deck, that goes for the Wonderbolts and Scratchbolts. Everyone else is on me, move out!" Sirius ordered.
"Move! Move! Move!" Vanoss urged his crew, the Scratchbolts not far behind.
----
Alex ran onto the Landing Craft along with his squad. That is, save Vanoss, Delirious, and Wildcat, who would be dropping in once they arrived at the target.
Alex had read that while the island itself was all but uninhabited, hardly anyone went there except for huntsmen on missions. Also, roughly 20 years ago, there was a huge mining operation that was stopped by the Grimm, leaving behind a perfect hideout for Taurus and the White Fang.
Teams RWBY and JNPR ran onto the ships on their left and right, respectively, waving as they boarded the craft. The ships dropped into the salty water below and they headed towards Vytal's coast, which was in sight and practically smoking.
Alex now was wearing the Armor Vinyl had created for him, keeping Blitzklinge strapped to his hip while carrying the Valian B-482 Light Machine Gun, which was pretty much the SAW from Halo 5.
"Sir, what are orders once we're on the field?" Blast wondered.
"Iris, what's it look like out there?" Alex asked.
"Task Force Crimson patrols and Syndicate cars have been sighted on field." Iris replied.
"Anyone nearby?"
"The Fury will have reinforcements ready in about 15 minutes. Vale's paratroopers are dropping in as we speak."
"As soon as we get out there, the whole beach is going to end up looking like Bloody Omaha. Find cover as soon as you can and return fire until Atlas gets their priorities out of whack. Watch out for Vale's men, they're already landing. Move out!" Alex ordered.
"Alex, what's the plan with Evan and the others?" Rainbow wondered.
"Vale is going to deal with the AA guns at the beachhead." Iris informed.
"Iris just said Vale's working on it." Alex replied.
"Thank Celestia.." Rainbow sighed in relief.
"Driver! Move as fast as you can! That gun can spot us anytime now!" Haunt pressured.
"Blast! I need you firing the rockets as soon as you get off this thing! Ember, help Blast with he mortar once we've landed! Rainbow and Skirmish, I need you two to keep the convoy in the air, don't let up! Haunt, you're with me!" Alex ordered as they drew closer to the beach.
'You there, Alex?' Ruby asked from her communicator.
"Yeah, giving orders. You got a plan?" Alex asked.
Yep! If you have a chance, run over with us! We'll do what we can!' she ordered.
"Sure thing!" Alex responded.
"Damn! That nearly hit us!" Blast recoiled as a shell struck the water, causing a massive splash that covered Alex's fire team with a disgusting mixture of saltwater and gunpowder.
"10 seconds!" The driver yelled as they approached the beach.
"Haunt, follow me as soon as we get out of this thing, you got me?" Alex asked.
"Yes, sir!" Haunt put on his Royal Guard helmet and pulled out a SCAR.
"Rainbow, Skirmish; I suggest you head out now." Alex ordered.
"On it!" Rainbow assured as both her and Skirmish donned their modified Scratchbolt armor and flew out of the ship.
"Stinger's up!" Blast called.
"GO GO GO!!!" The driver ordered as the door toppled down.
Alex was immediately struck with machine gun fire. He recoiled as he protected most of his men from the onslaught of lead. Once Blast had fired the rocket and blew up the MG nest, The four remaining soldiers diverted, Blast and Ember charging for a rock formation to the right while Wlex and Haunt ran left.
"Return fire!" Alex ordered as he hip-fired the SAW, killing as many Crimson soldiers as he was able before the armor could wear out.
Spotting Team RWBY nearby, Alex and Haunt slid past a destroyed Landing Craft and rolled with the Huntresses.
"Where's JNPR?" Alex asked, concerned.
"Just saw them at that ridge, they're fine!" Blake assured.
"Thank god. Red, what's the plan?" Haunt asked.
"One of the Paratrooper Squads is having trouble, we're helping them out!" Ruby smiled, grasping Crescent Rose and inserting a Green Cross Clip, which apparently utilized the ray gun bolts in tandem with a standard round.
"Do we have a clear shot?" Alex asked.
"Hm, do we?" Weiss slyly replied.
"It isn't the time for this kind of crap! Do we or don't we?!" Alex groaned.
"Okay! No, we don't! Sheesh!" Weiss waved her hands in defense.
"So much for that. Yang! Help me clear a path!" Alex ordered.
"Got your back!" The blonde huntress nodded.
"Haunt and Blake, keep them covered! Weiss and I will handle the artillery nests!" Ruby commanded.
Alex rolled out of their hiding place and held his finger on the trigger, firing streams of ammunition across the field and into the enemy infantry.
"Watch it!" Yang warned, Alex spotted a rocket headed his way and leaped high into the air, avoiding the explosion altogether.
Yang launched shots from Ember Celica and blew the rest of the patrol into ashes as Alex floated down, taking whomever managed to survive.
"You see the Paratroopers?" Alex asked her.
"Nope." She shook her head.
"Iris?" Alex asked.
"Valian 31st Paratrooper Squadron is located at a small crevice about a click north of here." Iris informed.
"They're a click that way!" Alex pointed as he ran, with Yang not far behind.
"Hey, what's it like having her in your head all the time?" She asked.
"Helpful to say the least." Alex simply replied as he punched a Syndicate hit-man in the face.
"How far away is a click again?" Yang asked.
Alex sighed in disappointment.
"Hey! It's an Earth term!" She defended.
"It means 'kilometer'." Alex replied.
"Thank you." She scoffed.
'Checkpoint one is down! Moving onto Checkpoint two!' someone said on the radio.
"Iris is picking up comm chatter, we're almost there!" Alex huffed, simply activating the jump-jets.
"Way ahead of you!" Yang smiled, firing both gauntlets and soaring far past him.
"Are they dealing with enemies?" Alex asked Iris.
"They're currently engaged with Crimson forces just east of their position." Iris replied.
"Fire six rockets at the Crimson Battalion." Alex ordered, soaring above the paratroopers now.
Six rockets flew instantly out of Alex's suit, slamming into the ground nearby and blowing them into ash.
To make sure they were done for, Alex fired beams of electric energy and swiped them through the landscape, reducing it to blackened plant life and burnt human.
"Someone ask for a huntress?" Yang asked as Alex finally landed on the ground.
"Sergeant Indigo reporting, miss!" One of the paratroopers saluted.
"At ease, Sergeant." Alex waved a hand.
"Hello, Admiral." He nodded respectfully.
"Sergeant." Alex replied mirroring his earnesty.
"We were about to meet with The 42nd but we got cut off by White Fang." The sergeant sighed.
"They're here?" Yang asked in disbelief.
"Oh, they're everywhere, now. I saw one of them wearing this mask execute one of the more unfortunate ones in the squads." Indigo reported.
"Taurus." Alex spat.
"Where did you last see him?" Yang asked.
"A half-click east of here. He said something about 'ARES'..." He recalled.
"Thank you, soldier. You're with us now." Yang slapped Indigo on the shoulder.
"Blake, I got a hit on Taurus. He's a half-click west of my position." Alex informed her through the radio. He knew somewhat of their personal history, she'd be interested to hear this.
'Thanks, I'll deal with it once Haunt and I finish off the rest of these patrols.' she answered.
"What's the plan, Admiral?" One of the other soldiers asked.
'Walker...I don't mean to alarm you, but..' Russell began nervously.
"Spit it out."
'Another Trans-Dimensional slip occurred about 5 clicks west of here. Hundreds of unidentified transport inbound, Twi just confirmed.' Russell sighed.
"Shit. We got a huge wave of transport vehicles inbound, they were unable to identify whether they're friends or foes!" Alex warned.
"How does someone not know if someone's with us or against us?!" Yang threw her hands in the air.
'It's... Oh, god...' Russell gasped.
"Soldier! Do you copy?!" Alex yelled into the communicator.
'We got Adenien Ryders. They're engaging the Red Star!' Mako yelled in Russell's communicator.
"'Adenien Ryders?" Alex asked.
"Super Soldier Cyborgs from the Adenien Dimension. They're especially known to antagonize the Inquisitors, they must not have heard..." Iris replied.
'Alexander Gabriel Walker, offspring of Jason Alexander Walker. We know you're here, and we know why.' a semi-mechanical voice called.
"Who are you?" Alex asked sternly.
'That's not important now, what is important is that you meet us at Achilles Ridge just northeast of your current location. There is something we must discuss along with the leaders or your faction.' the Ryder replied.
"Alex, who..?" Yang asked.
"Don't tell me, I have no freaking clue what's going on either." Alex shrugged.
'Alexander, listen to me. All will be explained at Achilles Ridge. Meet us there, if you wish to understand what you have to do.' He urged.
Alex stood, deep in thought.
"Alex..?" Yang asked again.
'There is no time. Decide now.' The Ryder pressed on.
"Are you just going to do what some creep on the radio thinks is right?" Yang scoffed.
"...I'll help you, if you help me." Alex replied.
'State your price, boy.'
"You help my men chase these guys off and track where they're headed, we'll do whatever you want." Alex compromised.
"What?!" Yang gasped.
"Face it, we don't have another option, Yang." Alex reasoned.
'Wise decision, Catalyst. We will see you there.' He cut off connection.
"Are you insane?!" Yang asked.
"No- wait, Yes! Just a little!" He answered.
"You could be walking into a trap!" Yang scolded.
"...Or I could be hitting a gold mine. I'm well aware of what's going on. Think about it, this guy knows who my father is, he knows my full name, Iris says they're against the Inquisitors." Alex defended.
"You're going to trust the A.I? Even though you know that half of it tried to kill us!"
"What do you expect me to do?"
'A-Alex! They're helping us now, their medics are healing the wounded!' Russell stammered.
'Admiral, mission successful, Convoy en-route to suspected Red Star hideaway.' Skirmish announced.
"Tell them to land a half-click east of Achilles Ridge. There's something we need taken care of," Alex ordered.
'Roger that, giving them the order.' Skirmish replied.
"Ruby, Twi, Vanoss, I need you guys to meet us at Achilles Ridge once the attack is over." Alex commanded.
'Atlas just landed, they're sweeping for Red Star stragglers. I hope you know what you're doing, Alex.' Kat announced.
"Come on, we can't exactly stay in one place, now can we?" Alex turned to Yang and the two paratroopers that remained.
"I'd say so." Someone said from above.
"Who the hell?" Alex asked, grabbing his SAW again.
"Where is that coming from?" One of the Paratroopers wondered.
"Iris, I need the perimeter scanned." Alex ordered.
"On it." She replied.
"Reliance on your crutches is not the best way to go about a fight." The voice echoed.
"Scan 86% complete..." Iris anticipated.
'Spotted Adam! I'll deal with him!' Blake announced.
"Scan 100% complete." Iris announced.
A small red light blinked in his HUD, which turned into the silhouette of a man, and mere milliseconds later, said man was punching him across the face.
Alex fall to the ground, only to hear the clash of metal, the bursts of gunfire, and the shuffling of feet.
"Watch out!" Someone yelled.
Someone grasped Alex by the head and slammed it into the ground.
"You know who I am?" He spat.
Alex pushed himself up, slamming a fist into the man's visage.
Without realizing, he had punched Adam Taurus in the face.
He was fighting the Inquisitor. This could be his chance!
He readied into a proper fighting position, fists closed and buzzing with electric power.
Taurus himself looked back at him, the mask he was wearing was horridly cracked on his right side as he scowled back at him.
Looking behind Alex, Omicron's gaze darted as he leapt away from the potential battlefield.
"He got away?!" Yang growled.
"Get back here you coward!!" Alex ran after him.
Blake stopped him in his tracks, one arm blocking his path.
"If anyone's going to fight him, it's me. And besides," She said, "we'll get another chance."
