Blood Red Shadows
Chapter 51: Act III, Chapter 4: Halloween Special!
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAlex casually ate his slice of pumpkin pie along with Vanoss's Crew, the Elements, Kat, Mako, and Team RWBY.
It was about 8 more days until the invasion, and the official plan wouldn't be discussed with the crew until tomorrow.
"So, we were playing this one map in custom zombies, it was a Christmas map, even though it was before Halloween by then.." Explained Vanoss.
"Wait, what's Halloween?" Rainbow asked.
"You don't know what Halloween is?" Basically groaned.
"Can it guys, they don't have Halloween, they have Nightmare Night, which is sort of the same concept!" Alex explained. Though he had been in Equestrian about 3 weeks or so, even he knew about this pony holiday.
"Wait a second, did we miss Halloween?" Yang gasped.
"Oh shit, we did." Delirious groaned.
"Well, it's easy to see why. I've been running around all day and night trying to keep this ship running smoothly. I haven't had time to even think about Trick-or-Treating, and besides, I stopped when I was like twelve anyways." Alex explained.
"You stopped trick-or-treating?!" Nogla couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
"Personally, I've been trick-or-treating into high school." Vanoss smirked.
"I imagine Evan always went as an Owl every year." Ruby giggled.
"Not always an owl! I went as Batman one year!" Vanoss yelled.
"I remember going to training one morning before Halloween and I saw Winchester dressed as Vegeta from Dragonball Z." Mako remembered.
"A friend of mine went as Natsu for Halloween one time." Alex recalled.
"He's lucky he has no idea that these Alternate universes exist. He'd probably freak out." Kat chuckled at the thought.
"So, any possible thing out there is in a universe?" Nogla asked.
"By that logic, yes." Twilight explained.
"So there's a universe where I'm Batman?" Vanoss asked.
"There's a universe where even Weiss is Batman." Yang answered.
"Hey!" Weiss turned to Yang, looking a little miffed.
"I actually think that could work." Wildcat laughed.
"Yeah, I can see that. She's incredibly rich.." Ruby noted.
"She's apparently really smart." Kat shrugged.
"One problem; she wears white." Vanoss shook his head.
"Albino Bat-Woman, maybe?" Moo laughed.
"I'd say Blake could probably be bat-woman." Mako said.
"No, I think Blake looks more like Catwoman." Terroriser nodded.
Blake scowled.
"Okay, then. Anyone care to explain that?" Terroriser asked.
"Blake's a F-" Ruby started to say before Yang clamped her mouth shut.
"A fun loving person who we all respect and admire as a person!" Yang forced a grin.
Blake face-palmed.
"Wait, we were talking about Halloween before, right?" Vanoss asked.
"Oh, yeah." Mako nodded.
"So, what can we do to celebrate?" Delirious asked.
"We could trick-or-treat, if someone didn't eat all of the candy on deck!" Alex indignantly responded.
"Meep.." Ruby planted her face to the table and groaned.
"We could probably set something up on the flight deck." Weiss noted.
"Too many jets. Can't risk losing one before the invasion." Kat replied.
"How about we set up like, a party in the ball room. We have that, right?" Droidd added.
"I think we might. Iris?" Alex asked.
"Actually, we have 4. Each of them are about three quarters the size of a football field." Iris confirmed.
"Great. We might be able to have a bunch of parties at once. The crew could take three of them, and we could have one for VIPs." Alex smiled.
"Should we start inviting people?" Ruby asked.
"Screw it, the more the merrier, let's invite as many people as we can!" Vanoss rallied the rest.
----
The party had started about 5 minutes ago, and the entirety of Team Unity, including some of the other huntsmen on the ship, as well as Kat's and Mako's squadrons. He also saw Russell and Sirius nearby, as well as Corporal Quill; one of the crewmen that Vanoss regularly hung out with.
The party wasn't exactly in full swing, but Vinyl, given her reputation as a DJ, had been asked politely to play some Halloween themed music at this room, while other crewmen who had music experience were hoof-picked by the unicorn to play at the other ballrooms.
Now, Alex wasn't one to party all that much. Even before the ill-fated events of late, he would usually stand towards the walls in a dance. For example, when he went to a Homecoming dance, he sat at a table the entire time, only moving to get some snacks and punch, and maybe talk to his peers.
Yang, however, was the exact opposite.
"Woo-hoo! This party's amazing!" Alex heard his mentor yell from across the ballroom before collapsing on the floor, and...well...
"Oh, my god." Alex groaned, face-palming.
"Clean up on aisle four!" Yang yelled again.
Not even ten minutes in, and Yang's reached her limit.
"Dance party!" Vanoss yelled.
Now, Vinyl made the mistake of letting people put in suggestions for what to put on. Vanoss had been the first to write down a suggestion. So now Vinyl was playing 'Time Warp' from 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'.
"Admiral?" Ember asked him.
"Yes?" Alex asked, turning to his Sergeant.
"How often does something like this happen?" She asked him.
"I've never seen them at an actual party before today. So, I'm dealing with a bunch of loose cannons here." Alex shrugged.
"Well, good luck. I have to get Yang to the washroom for a moment." Ember nervously smiled.
"Sure, you need any help?" Alex asked.
"I think I can handle it, this sort of thing happened to my a friend of mine in Ponyville all the time." Ember waved a hoof.
Alex watched Ember help Ruby drag Yang to the restroom, and then he went to get some punch or something of that nature. He was kind of thirsty.
The tables had been arranged full of cake and cookies and that sort of thing, along with small coolers where he could get some soda, and finally, there was one large punch bowl, filled about halfway with fruit punch.
Scooping a ladle full of the pink liquid, Alex noticed something was a little off about it.
He poured some into a little plastic cup, and held it to his nose, wafting it's scent into his nostrils.
"Yep, the punch is spiked." Alex groaned, pouring the punch back into the bowl.
He sat down, settling for a can of Orange Soda and taking long, slow gulps of the carbonated beverage.
"Walker, right?" He heard someone ask behind him.
Alex was face to face with the leader of Team CFVY, he had heard from Ruby that her name was 'Coco', or something.
"Yeah, you're the leader of Team CFVY, right?" He asked her.
She merely nodded in reply.
"Nice to finally meet you." Alex raised a hand.
"The pleasure's all mine, Admiral." She smiled slightly, returning the gesture.
"So, let me guess, you didn't come over here just to say 'hi'." Alex noted.
"I have to ask, how many times have you won a fight against these 'inquisitor' guys?" Coco asked him.
Counting the number of times he won a fight against his enemies was not all that easy, but after a few moments, he had his answer.
"I won about three fight out of the half-dozen or so times I had the misfortune of meeting them." Alex nodded.
"I'll keep that in mind, Admiral." Coco smirked.
"Why, you're going to gun down an Inquisitor, aren't you?" Alex asked.
"You think I'm scared of some overrated storm-troopers with cutesy little knives?" Coco scoffed.
"Keep in mind, these are the same people who blew up a train car full of dust and hacked into the Cross-Continental Transmit Tower." Alex warned.
"You scared?" She laughed.
"You never understand fear until you're leading people who can kill you in four seconds to battle against people who can kill you in two." Alex replied.
"I doubt anyone here really wants you dead. I wouldn't worry so much." Coco shrugged, turning to leave.
"Alrighty then, just start leaving mid-sentence." Alex scoffed.
"So..?" Ruby instantaneously sped over to Alex's right side instantly after the words left his mouth.
"Hi, Ruby." Alex nodded politely.
"How's the party going for you?" She asked him.
"I've never been the partying type, and keeping in mind you and Ember literally had to drag Yang to the bathroom, I'd say things are going well." Alex smirked.
"Has this sort of thing happened before?" Ruby wondered.
"Ms. Rose, in my one year of High School, I've seen and heard my classmates do really weird shit at parties." Alex remembered.
"Like what?"
"I don't know, you seem a little to... What's the word? You seem a little to innocent to hear about that sort of thing." Alex replied.
"Come on, I'm sure it's not that bad." Ruby assured.
"No, I don't want to scar you for life." Alex waved.
"Okay, okay!" She laughed a bit.
"About Yang, did you at least hold her hair for her?" Alex asked.
"Don't worry about Yang, this happens almost every time she goes to a party." Ruby smiled.
"By the way, someone spiked the punch, so I wouldn't drink that if I were you." Alex reminded.
"I know, Evan told me." Ruby assured him.
"Nice to hear." Alex said.
"Hey, Alex!" Rainbow flew over to Alex's left.
"Hi, Rainbow. How's everything with you?" Alex asked.
"Fluttershy drank some of the punch, Skirmish and I had to fly her back to her bunk." Rainbow replied.
"Ouch. I imagine they won't exactly be all there for the briefing tomorrow." Alex cringed.
"I have a question, Alex." Rainbow asked.
"Shoot."
"Were you ever accepted into Beacon?" Rainbow wondered.
"The Headmaster just let me use some of the equipment and the training rooms, but I doubt I was ever accepted. Besides, I was only there for about a week and a half," Alex replied.
"You weren't accepted?" Ruby asked.
"Guess not. I didn't even get my Aura activated until after I got in." Alex replied.
"I'm still scratching my head over that, why were you able to do that?" Rainbow wondered.
"Most of us get our Auras activated by the teachers at some of the combat schools like Signal, it just seems impractical. It's possible for anyone to do it, but it takes more work than it does just asking someone to unlock it for you." Ruby replied.
"Who unlocked your aura?" Alex asked.
"Yang."
"Neat." Rainbow blinked.
"How does that work? I was given the impression that only a few people can pull it off!" Alex groaned.
"You have to memorize the incantation, if you're just at home and have it written down, like Yang did, it's way easier." Ruby smiled.
"Well, twice the Aura for doing it alone, I'd probably take my chances." Alex murmured.
"You're actually pretty special. Like Ozpin said, only one other person bothered to even try it, but the legend says it took him months. It's similar to Lucid dreaming in that sense, it's possible, but depending on the person, it's either a piece of cake or it takes people months or years to get it right." Ruby explained.
"So, Alex's Double Aura is like my Sonic Rainboom." Rainbow noticed.
"Sonic what-now?" Ruby asked.
"Wha- you mean that none of you have seen me do a Sonic Rainboom yet?" Rainbow gaped.
"No, I guess not." Alex shook his head.
"I'll have to show you guys sometime!" Rainbow flapped both wings.
Just then, Alex heard the next song start playing; Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'.
"Oh, my god." Alex groaned.
"What is this?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah, it doesn't seem like Nightmare Night music." Rainbow shrugged.
"It's a song from my world. The radio stations literally over-play this song when Halloween rolls around." Alex sighed.
"Homesick?" Ruby asked.
"Considering I got tortured and almost killed on Earth, I wouldn't call it 'homesick'." Alex elaborated.
"You're still hung up about that?!" Rainbow groaned.
"Rainbow!" Ruby scolded.
"Too far, I know.." Rainbow shied back.
"Wait, do you still have that scar?" Ruby asked.
"Right here." Alex said, tracing the trail of the scar down his right eye.
"Ow.." She cringed.
"Wait, isn't there supposed to be a part of the story where everything goes wrong?" Vanoss wondered.
"Like what?" Delirious asked.
"I don't know, Zombies attacking the boat, the ghost of the Flying Dutchman showing up, spooky scary skeletons playing in the background?" Vanoss shrugged.
A horrid sound, like some inhuman scream, emitted from the other side of the door.
"What the..?" Ruby wondered.
"Vanoss, what did you do?!" Alex backed away.
"AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WHO DARES DISTURB THE FLYIN' DUTCHMAN?!!" A ghostly voice bellowed.
"Great. This guy." Discord sighed.
"You all suck." Haunt spat.
"Well, Gang, this next song is a request from Evan Fong, the Spooky Scary Skeletons remix by Wooden Toaster!" Vinyl announced, the trademark song starting to play in the background.
"Ruby, you still have that Ray Gun?" Alex asked.
"Yep!" She smiled, pulling out the device.
"You can keep the sniper, can I borrow that?" Alex asked her.
"Sure, thing." She handed him the iconic Zombie-killing tool.
"Alrighty, gang! I got the box again!" Terrorizer yelled as dozens of men charged to the back corner of the room.
"You four might need these." Alex said, handing Team RWBY four bottles of red liquid with the words 'Juggernog' on the front
"More booze?! This is getting better and better!" Yang smiled, cocking both of her Gauntlets.
"Someone politely let our guests in." Alex ordered.
"On it!" Vanoss and Wildcat fired their RPGs at the door along with Nora and Yang, blowing the door open and letting in swarms of zombies. Their eyes were glowing bright green to match their announcer; the Flying Dutchman.
"I'VE COME FOR YOUR SOULS!" The Dutchman screamed.
"Even now, you're talking about those pathetic sea creatures!" Discord grit his teeth, unleashing a barrage of magic attacks.
As he looked around, defending himself against the hordes of zombies by stabbing them with a broken bottle or shooting them with the Ray Gun, Alex kept one thought in the back of his mind.
'I have the most ridiculous life ever. Like, ever.'
