Chapter 15: The Warmaster Part B: Father & Daughter
Previous Chapter Next Chapter"Let's go everyone." Spike announced
"Do you want me to take him with us?" Sonata asked
"...As much I'd love to, sorry, but no."
"But why?"
"He's on our side, and it's his decision to stay behind and fight. It's best to leave him."
"Understood." Spike lead the two into the room, seeing the way down didn't have a lot of room to navigate in.
"They're loose!" A merc yelled "Run for your lives! They're free!!!" Two merc ran out, both with their helmets on, causing both Spike and Sonata to blast them both with their pistol.
"Come on!" Spike yelled "If what they say is true, then we may have more behemoths after us!"
"Too late!" The Doctor yelled. Spike turned to see what was two behemoths, but both looked very young, as they weren't covered in fur nor were they considered 'big boned' as most Behemoths. Both Behemoths charged at the group, but Sonata stood in front of the group, took a deep breath, and let out a screech that made both Spike & the Doc cover their ears, but also literally blew away the two behemoths charging at them, making them hit the wall hard and breaking their backs in the process. They ran down into a larger room, seeing the area looked more like a mine more than a training ground, but behemoths ran around and took out the Mercs.
"Sonata?" Spike asked. Sonata cleared her throat, took a deep breath, and began to sing again, controlling the behemoths running rampant. Unlike the Mercs before, the Behemoths fought against Sonata's singing, probably due to their species' natural stubbornness. Sonata noticed this and began to sing louder, nearly now screeching while her eyes now turned red. The behemoths finally obeyed their new master, now brainwashed under Sonata's influence, and fought against the other behemoths wearing helmets. Sonata took a deep breath and went back to her old self. She turned around to see both Spike and the Doc giving an awkward stare that read both surprise and fear.
"Sorry about that," she said "I have... a bit of an anger problem now when people don't listen to me."
"...Guess I'll listen to you now." Spike commented.
"The Behemoths took down the grid!" One of the mercs spoke through a helmet of a nearby dead merc. "We're blind and getting hit on all sides! Where are the heavies!?"
"Sounds like we're going to have a lot of violence here." The Doc commented
"No kidding." Spike replied "Come on! We better find the new guy on our team." Spike, the Doc, and Sonata with her band of five behemoths ran ahead & up the stairs. The doors were locked, but the Doc hacked through it easily, allowing them to continue.
"Behemoths on our six!" More merc chatter was heard "Copy, damn it! Where's Erodeg and her personal guard!?" The group entered the next room, seeing that the training camp/mining area looked more like an abandoned ship as the hot sun hit their skin, followed by Mercs yelling orders to take them out. Spike & the Doc took cover behind a rail large enough to protect them while Sonata aimed at the mercs, firing at them with her Behemoth shield/allies. Not wanting to waste time and lives, Spike fired at the other mercs, finishing them off quickly and running to another area, quickly taking cover as more mercs fired at them.
"Concentrate on the behemoth charge, or we're all dead! Who was the genius that armed them?" Spike, Sonata, and her brainwashed behemoths took out the guards firing at them, taking out one of Sonata's behemoths and leaving the other wounded. They ran to where the mercs were at and entered the door to the left, climbing up another fleet of stairs to the next room. Upon entering, they sprung an ambush of other mercs waiting for them, causing the group to quickly take cover. Sonata's wounded behemoth would've died, but the Doc saved his life, letting the four behemoths squad to take out the mercs around them, though with the help of Sonata herself and Spike.
"Berserkers are going down, but the outside commandos are still coming! Repeat, still incoming!"
"I guess that's us?" Spike asked
"We better continue." Sonata replied. They continued to their destination.
"I need everyone out of the labs to fight this! Every floor, every outpost, MOVE!!!" The door across a bridge like frame opened, pouring out more mercs. Sonata didn't even hesitate, as she charged against the mercs, surrounded by her behemoths, still acting as her living shields, taking damage but also giving damage. The mercs were killed, and only three behemoths remained.
"Concentrate on my position! Concentrate on-AUGH!!!"
"Sounds like he's gone." The Doc commented.
"Hopefully, he's truly dead." Spike replied. They entered the room and climbed yet another flight of stairs, entering a larger area.
"There's only three of them!" A woman's voice yelled through the speakers above. "THREE!!! Anything can be killed if you do your damn jobs!!!"
"Someone get Erodeg off the speakers!" One of the mercs yelled. Spike and Sonata began to fire at the mercs in front of them, causing the mercs to take cover, but Sonata to charge ahead. In a quick blow, all of the mercs were killed, but so were the rest of their brainwashed behemoths. They found another door and entered it, seeing a female mage cowering behind her desk with a dead behemoth on a research table, and around was research on said behemoth.
"Wait!" The Mage announced, getting up from her table and holding her hands up in surrender "Please, don't hurt me! I shut down the security cameras as soon as I saw you. I'm the only survivor on this colony, and seeing you, I knew I would be rescued, or, at the very least, get a chance to escape. Never did I ever think a Draco with a Human and... is that a siren?"
"Heyo!" Sonata spoke, waving and smiling.
"If you were held here, then why didn't you run away?" Spike asked
"I didn't want to get shot as you shot up the place." The mage answered "That, and I'm not the only one held captive here; I've been working with another behemoth named "Chief Thunderhooves"."
"Thunderhooves!?"
"You know him?"
"That's a name I can never forget here. What's he doing here and what were you both working on?"
"He was here before I came, but I knew he needed help. They held him and his daughter, little Stongheart, hostage; they forced him to find a way to make an army of behemoths, since he apparently has high scholarships in genealogy after being in the main colony of Apploosa, and that if he didn't work, then they'd kill his daughter."
"...He refused to work?"
"He refused. Since then, he's requested my help in... bringing his daughter back to life, but under the cover of what they want. His methods are extreme, but if any man, no matter what species or culture, wants their daughter back, then they'll go through hell and back to get it. That is why he needed my help, and, after all, don't we all deserve another chance at life?"
"I... you're right. Is that why there are a bunch of tank-bred behemoths around?"
"Yes. None of the ones you saw were his daughter at all; they were the ones the mercs want, but he installed a device that makes their minds... crazy, and why they're fighting the mercs and anything else moving. Lucky for me, he was able to make sure they wouldn't shoot me, though I can't say the same for the mercs here."
"Yeah, and lucky you, we left a large open window for you to escape. My best bet is for you to head to the main colony of Apploosa and tell them your story."
"And if they don't believe me?"
"...Tell them Spike Sent ya." The Mage's eyes widened.
"Y-you're Commander Spike?"
"There's no other Commander Spike but the one who I meet as a dog!" Sonata quipped.
"Ignore her," The Doc commented "She's... special."
"And you may wanna go." Spike added "Your window is closing as we speak." The mage shook her head.
"Y-yes!" She said, quickly walking by the group "I-I-I will!" She ran away, squealing like a fan girl.
"Maybe you shouldn't tell her your name." The Doc said.
"I don't want her to die," Spike replied in an excited tone "especially now knowing Thunderhooves is here!"
"Is that you!?" A booming voice asked on the other side. Spike couldn't hold his excitement in and opened the door, seeing the old behemoth himself in his native clothing, though looking worn & torn as himself. He turned around, showing his full stature, wearing an old, ragged shirt & pants. "Ah! Spike the Draco! It's been years since we've seen each other!"
"Glad to see you too, Thunderhooves! I... uh... heard about your daughter."
"I know. It was...heart breaking... but I'm glad that will change."
"What do you mean?" Thunderhooves turned around and began to type on the computer
"I apologize, but the batteries on these tanks will not wait while you play with those idiotic mercs."
"What's wrong?"
"...What they want. These mercs want an army of my people as a means to control this planet & it's colonies. They know we behemoths are stronger than them, but numbers mean nothing to us! Their leader got her reject army, and now look; her army is attacking her men, and I seek to escape."
"Well we're here to get you out of here!" Sonata replied "When we bust outta here, we're gonna kick Sombra and his Doppelganger army in the balls!"
"Yes, so I've heard. Sombra & his army of Doppelgangers attacking colonies across Equestria, but I need something done first. Look inside the tube." Spike looked inside the tube Thunderhooves pointed at and nearly jumped at the sight: inside, surrounded by liquid, wearing state of the art Behemoth armor, was Little Stongheart herself, almost looking like how she did those years ago. She looked frozen with her eyes wide open, not even moving anything, and, despite being a bit big boned, she looked rather the same with mostly fur covering her entire torso area & only at the top of her arms & legs, looking more of a hairy human than a behemoth.
"Is that-?" Spike began, but was cut off.
"Yes. I successfully copied the right DNA and reeducated her to the daughter she was before she passed away, almost like how you were brought back to life, Spike. But, I also gave her the education of our ancestors, making her the perfect behemoth warrior, even if she is a female and born in a test tube."
"...That's really extreme. But if we help you rescue your daughter, then you'll join us?"
"I can, but I can't promise if I'll make it. My daughter may or may not be negotiable, but, if it's right, she'll join you if I don't."
"ATTENTION!!!" Erodej's voice rang through the intercoms "I have traced the behemoth release! It's Thunderhooves, of course. I'm calling 'Blank Slate' on this project. Gas these commandos and start over from Thunderhoove's data. Flush the tanks!" Some valves popped and steam exited, though it didn't do much to them.
"She's that weak willed!? She'll kill my daughter again, but with a damn valve!? Spike! If you want my help in stopping Sombra & the Doppelgangers, then stop her! She'll try to access contaminants in the storage bay."
"And what are you going to do?"
"I'm going to do whatever I can to save my daughter's life again, even if it kills me!"
"No need to." The Doc said, standing next to Thunderhooves and pulling out his device. "I trust that you know a lot about computers, but this is more or less something I know I can do. For what will take you minutes, it'll only take me seconds."
"But what about-?"
"She will be alright, you have my word."
"And you want revenge, don't you?" Spike asked
"I... I do," Thunderhooves stammered "But... this is-"
"Trust him. The Doc knows what he's doing and I'm certain that bitch is scared shitless when you get your revenge. An eye for an eye, right?" He stood there, looking at his tank reborn daughter, then back to Spike & Sonata.
"...let's do it." He let out a famous behemoth war cry and charged out the other door, breaking it as he ran to the bottom area. Spike and Sonata sprinted behind and tried to make haste, but the behemoth was faster than what most behemoths should be like. As soon as the two reached down the floor, they saw a bunch of behemoths dead as two heavy mechs guarded a lone human. They saw Thunderhooves running to and wrestling one of the heavy mechs, hold well for someone his age and being prisoner. The human being protected gasped and fired at Thunderhooves, getting some shots on him, though it wasn't enough to make him fall down. Spike & Sonata ran to aid him, but the other heavy mech got in the way and fired at the two. They took cover behind the railing & tubes as the heavy mech fired at them.
"If only the doc were here!" Sonata pleaded.
"He's doing his best to save little Strongheart's life, but we can do it!" Spike said with some encouragement. "Besides, you fought off three heavy mechs, remember?"
"...Oh yeah!"
"Well when it stops firing, screech!"
"Got it." As soon as the heavy mech stopped firing, Soanta got out of cover, took a deep breath, and screeched. It's 'eye' cracked and it began to fire, but blindly & everywhere. It turned around and fired at it's ally, effectively destroying one of it's arms, allowing the chief to toss it to the side and charge after Erodej. Spike leaped onto the back of the heavy mech and clawed at the wires hanging out, cutting them and causing the body to fall with it's head barely held on with some wires. Both Spike and Sonata looked up, seeing Erodej firing at Thunderhooves repeatedly with a shotgun, slowing him down. With one last push, Thunderhooves got a hold of Erodej and began to choke her! She struggled in his grasp, but as all means of distraction were gone, she stopped moving and went limp, dead. Thunderhooves stood right up, but stumbled and fell onto his back.
"Chief!" Spike and Sonata ran to Thunderhooves, seeing the shogun shots pierced his skin and he was bleeding a lot.
"Doc! We need help!"
"No," Thunderhooves said with deep breaths. "Don't... save me."
"Chief," Spike said "You have a tribe to run! You have to make it! You have to-"
"My daughter... is... more important... I... have redeemed... myself... for her... you... have her... safe... and stop Sombra... from taking over... the galaxy... she... is... my legacy." His breathing slowed down, he closed his eyes, and in a few moments, he was dead. Sonata teared up and cried, covering her face in the palms of her hands. Spike teared up, but he had to remain strong.
"Rest in Peace. Your daughter will be safe, and we will save Equestria from Sombra." He activated his communicator. "Doc. What's the Status?"
"Strongheart is doing well," the Doc answered "and they tried to gas me, but that didn't happen. How's the Chief?"
"He's dead."
"...I'm sorry. What do we do?"
"We take Stongheart onto the Celestia with us."
"Still in her tube or out of it?"
"It's been nealry twelve years since I saw her, so I'm not sure what's changed her. Keep her in the tube, just in case."
"Roger." Spike turned to Sonata, who was sniffling. He placed a claw on her shoulder.
"It's alright, Sonata. If he stayed, he would've died either way. This is what he wanted."
"...Yeah." Sonata replied, still sniffling. "I-I guess you're right, sir."
"Come on, I need you to be strong. We may have a new ally with us."
"A-alright."
It took them a while, but Strongheart was placed in the Cargo hold in the engineering level of the Celestia. Spike walked into the briefing room, where Diamond Tiara and Big Mac stood in front of each other.
"Bringing a behemoth for study is one thing, but waking it!?" Diamond Tiara asked, nearly on the verge on panic.
"Calm down," Big Mac said "you've repeated that for a few times now."
"A normal behemoth is dangerous. This one was created, most likely educated, and a psycho!"
"There's no way she can be a psycho," Spike insisted "Plus, we can't tell unless one of us releases her."
"You're only going by those past years, when Twilight was just making friends. For all we know, Thunderhooves may have a failsafe or there's a malfunction on her brain that may make her kill us all."
"I'm not saying we should wake her up now, but it can't help to get another ally with us."
"I agree on allies, but this your decision, commander. Whatever happens, it's on you, not us."
"Duly note." Both Diamond Tiara and Big Mac walked out of the room.
"Commander?" Spitfire's voice spoke through the intercoms.
"What is it?"
"I've set a route for Canterlot for you, as a means to get to your sister, Princess Twilight Sparkle."
"Thanks!"
"But I also heard about what you said about the Behemoth in the Cargo bay. Look, I'm not saying you shouldn't do it, but there's a problem here."
"Tell me."
"Filthy Rich called me, and he'll be patient about it, but it seems that you can only do one of two things: head to Canterlot, meet your Sister probably and some other friends, or wake up our package. When you're done with either, he wants you to meet him in the briefing room for something important. We don't to piss him off, do we?"
I.A. Release Strongheart from her tube in the cargo hold
B. Go and meet Twilight Sparkle in Canterlot.
