Chapter 14: The Warmaster Part A: Respected people
Previous Chapter Next Chapter"We get the last man on the list." Spike replied.
"Of course." Diamond Tiara replied "And your two people?"
"Get the Doc and Sonata out there with me. I'm certain they can take the heat."
"Assuming Sonata doesn't die of dehydration first."
"That won't be necessary!" The Doc spoke, entering & holding a headphone looking device with water in it.
"What is that?"
"Something I made when you two were getting our siren out. I read how they're more adapted to liquid environments and, if under the sun on a desert for a long period of time, then they'll die. This right here will be fixated over where her gills will be at, allowing her to hydrated, keep cool, and perform on desert planets like Apploosa."
"And where did you find out about where we were going next?"
"Uh... it just-"
"We can know about that later." Spike interrupted. "Spitfire?"
"Here." The angel replied through the intercom
"Set course to Apploosa. We have our final person to get."
"Setting course."
Locations:
Apploosa is the homeworld of the behemoths and is considered the most hostile planet in Equestria. With temperatures around 150 degrees Fahrenheit, it's a secret on how the behemoths have survived on this land, especially with it's lack of water & plantlife. The humans that have made colonies here rely on other planet colonies to come & give them supplies, in return, Apploosa's residents give them minerals that are, otherwise, rare on other planets. Though there are colonies, Apploosa is infamous for housing more wanted & dangerous criminals, who use the planet's own heat & lack of shade to their advantage, along with Behemoths who don't want anyone else trespassing their lands. Because of this, all civilians are expected to use any type of weapon or have combat training, so they won't be a burden to everyone.
Spike, The Doctor, and Sonata all landed on Apploosa's surface, right near where a burnt military base stood. The shuttle's doors opened, and the heat came in already. Spike came out and felt the heat on his head: it could easily burn any vampire easily, with the added dust being blown across his face. This was any Draco's place to be in, next to a planet made entirely of volcanoes & lava.
"It's a good thing I'm prepared!" The Doc said, coming out with a cowboy hat on his head and adjusting his sleeves to be shorter.
"Oh boy." Sonata said, placing the headphone-water cooler mix on her neck. Her gills opened & the surrounding area turned into scales, but the rest of her body stayed normal. The heat was getting to her, as she pulled off a layer of skin from her face. "How can anyone live here!? It's... too hot!"
"Perhaps for you," Spike replied "but I love it here!"
"Come on!" The Doctor said, nearly jogging into the burnt town. "That behemoth isn't waiting for us! ALLONS-Y!!!"
"...We're looking for a behemoth?" Sonata asked, standing next to Spike while protecting her face from the sun's rays.
"I guess we are." Spike answered, pulling out his assault rifle. "Get ready, we may have hostiles up ahead."
The three walked through the burnt town; the smell of burnt trash & corpses hit their noses, with the heat of the fire and the only cool of the shade that landed on them. They took cover when they saw a dozen Mercs, Wizards by their armor, patrolling around the area.
"Sonata?" Spike asked
"Got it." Sonata replied. She cleared her throat and stood out in the open. The mercs notice her and aimed at her, but stopped when she began to sing. Spike's helmet went up and the Doc wore a bandanna over his mouth, as Sonata's green gas came out & surrounded their siren. They watched as the Mercs went from violent, co calm, to being in total bliss, as their pupils shrunk to being almost gone. Only two of the mercs wore their helmet, and they were confused. Spike came out with and shot the two mercs, killing them easily. Sonata stopped singing, and the mercs were under her control now.
"Nice!" Spike commented "We now have a squad to aid us."
"Thank you," Sonata replied "though I kinda wish I had you under my control."
"In your dreams."
"I suggest we get going." The Doctor added.
"Right. Sonata, are these mercs going to aid us?"
"They will." Sonata answered "Up until they are seriously injured or die."
"Good enough for me. Let's go!" Spike, the Doctor, and Sonata with her small army, charged ahead and fired at other mercs. Spike watched as, though they had more firepower, the brainwashed Mercs were much more slower and they didn't take cover as they did, making this a bit of a mixed blessing: have a squad available, but all are a lot more stupid than a Lycan. They headed to where more Mercs were camped at, as Spike fired the majority of his bullets at with Sonata aiming & firing along with Spike. She wasn't as combat ready as him, but she was really doing her best, even when she was surrounded by other Mercs who were using themselves as her shield. They made their way, but saw, at the end of a open area, a lone behemoth was fending off the mercs.
"A possible ally?" The Doctor asked
"Let's make him one." Spike replied. Spike ran ahead and fired at the mercs, taking cover next to a pile of rubble. Sonata and the Doctor arrived, the Doctor taking cover right behind Spike while Sonata & her brainwashed stood in the open and fired at the other mercs. After a few moments of firing, all of the enemy & Sonata's Mercs were dead, leaving the three of them and the behemoth alone. The behemoth walked to Spike, who was readying his pistol, just in case.
"You," he said "you're different... new... you don't smell from this world. Seven night cycles and I have felt only the need to kill. But you... something makes me speak."
"Night cycles?" The Doctor inquired. "That's an entire week!"
"Someone must be breeding them full size to kill." Spike commented, then turned to the behemoth. "And I think I know: I'm a Draco, you're a behemoth; our races have a history with each other, as my kind has protected your kinds throughout the ages and, in return, you feed us and almost worship us as gods."
"Yes," the behemoth spoke "I... remember that. Drakes and Behemoths stronger than all other races, even the immortals. Bred... to kill. Kill... because blood and bone tell me to. But not why I was flushed from glass mother. Survival is all I hear now; against all enemies that threaten our kind, but I've failed before waking That's what the voice said, that's why I wait here."
"Your creator's voice?" Spike asked "Is that who spoke to you in the tank?"
"I heard the voice, but inside, not out. I called it 'father'... it like it, but it was disappointed. I'm not what it wants me to be."
"Sounds like a bad guy to me." Sonata commented
"Or they're just precise." The Doctor replied
"How did you disappoint 'the voice'?" Spike asked
"I don't know." the behemoth answered "It was decided before I left tank mother. I wan't perfect."
"Really harsh." Sonata commented again.
"Precise." The Doc replied, sounding a bit irritated.
"Who's leading these groups of Mercs?" Spike asked
"...Erodej." the behemoth answered "It's a name that causes anger... and laughter. Nothing no one wants to march to at all."
"How can you speak if you're a week old?"
"There was a scratching sound... then it became the voice. It taught everything I know, for it said I wasn't perfect, and I stopped learning."
"If that's the case, can you show me the laboratory here? Perhaps speak to your creator and lead me to 'Glass Mother'?"
"Glass Mother... she is up... past the broken parts... behind the other fleshy things. I will show you." The behemoth turned around and walked to a girder on the wall. He cracked his hand & neck, and lifted the girder off the ground, grunting loudly, and threw the girder on the floor, revealing a secret entrance that he went through. Sonata whistled to herself, impressed by his strength. "Your fleshy things are slow when big things are in your way."
"You could join us to the labs and find the voice & Glass mother."
"I am waiting. The voice told me if they come, then I fight. But I will not run, and I will not follow. I am not perfect, but I do have purpose. I must wait until I'm called... or released."
Thank you.
You sure you don't want to talk to 'the voice', and ask why?
I command you to join us!
