The Start of Something
Chapter 10: 10. The After-Life Experience
Previous Chapter Next ChapterNot much left to write now. All this happened only a couple of hours ago. But nevertheless, the things that ran through my head in the time I was gone were, to say the least, unorthodox. Never in my right mind would I dream about living in a world where the inhabitants were ponies, let alone talking, multi-coloured, flying ponies. Just from remembering the events of the past day and a half have led me to question everything about this world, including my sanity.
But something is telling me I’m not insane…
... ... ... ... ...
Here I was. In a world of white, my life flashing before my eyes. My life. The life I’ve had. But not all of my life. The life I started only a day and a bit ago, with all the multi -coloured ponies, their town and, above everything else, their bizarreness. Something was definitely confusing in their world. No-one seemed wrong-done, every pony seemed happy. I’d seen so many acts of kindness this day alone. A mint-green unicorn offering to help another pony to move her stall. A big red stallion pulling several bales of hay and some giddy foals. This place, this Equestria, never seemed to have any troubles. I could live peacefully on the edge of town.
But I couldn’t even if I wanted to. I was being hunted down like the animal I was. That’s what my life had been centred on from the moment I arrived, dazed and scared, in this godforsaken place. That’s when my eyes deceived me. She was floating around, my mind replaying everything that had happened with her.
Fluttershy. A yellow flying pony. She had some butterflies on her flank, symbolising something I’m sure. But whatever it did symbolise, it wasn’t her ability to talk to a stranger, even if it was an animal that couldn’t talk back. I’d seen her at first tending to what I assumed to be chickens. I crept closer and closer. But she saw me and chased me. I ran from her and she ran after me. I don’t know why. She just did. I didn’t trust her and I knew she was bad news at first sight so I ran. Until I fell.
When I fell, I managed to take her down with me. I tumbled what seemed to be forever, getting closer to one another. Until she fell on me. I shouldn’t have allowed myself to black out. She took me back to her house and scared me within 15 seconds of waking up. I even had to fight fear just to speak to her, because I was so suspicious. But it wasn’t just her. Her rabbit, Angel, could be easily underestimated because of his size. He was a good intimidator, capable of making a pony scared but they would have to be a timid, outspoken pony. I managed to escape them both before either of them killed me, possibly one of the few successes I’d had.
Pinkie Pie. An energetic pink pony. I met her when running from the yellow pony. She’s… not some pony I’d usually get on with but I gave her a chance because I needed a place to sleep. I actually got on really well with her. She seemed really friendly. It was just the fact that her niece and nephew nearly killed me from exhaustion. The unicorn foal was throwing pillows at me, almost smothering me. The flying foal kept gnawing at my tail. But even though they were annoying, I actually though I could get used to a life like that. But again I was wrong.
Rainbow Dash. A flying cyan pony. She was the one who’d knocked me down the hill, into Fluttershy in the first place. She caused my problems from the first moments I came here. And continued to cause more as I went along. She drove me from Pinkie’s house and ended up chasing me and almost killing herself. I save her life, and all she did was offer to take me to Fluttershy and boast about herself. If I didn’t know better, I’d say she was one of the most stubborn and arrogant ponies in Ponyville. But I even evaded her.
Rarity. An marshmallow fashionista pony. From the minute I’d met her, she’d obsessed over my coat of fur. She’d acted like she’d never seen fur before even though she was covered in her own white fur coat, I’d even found out she had a friend with an orange fur coat with near to no differences from mine. But it all went to pot when she apologised for it in front of every pony. It had embarrassed me and I was pretty sure she’d embarrassed herself. Yet still her confidence in her actions was to be admired. I mean, you’d have to have vast amounts of courage and confidence to even whisper an apology in front of so many people, let alone say it out loud and leave every pony thinking what it was for. I had to admire her for that.
Applejack. Or AJ for short. A strong orange pony from the south (judging by the accent). Quite the looker too. I saw her first when she woke me up by her barn. I believe the whole apple orchard belongs to her (or her quiet brother, Big Macintosh). She seemed understanding but I believe it’s because of her friends. I’m sure they have all so many weird stories she’d have to listen to. I’d love to listen one of them. I just wished I’d been straight forward. But I can’t talk because I’m an animal. Just my luck. I’d to just escape before her friends caught me.
Spike. A purple baby dragon. Not too impressive for a dragon. I haven’t seen him do… whatever dragons do. He’s mostly an assistant to his owner, Twilight Sparkle, probably the most sane and down-to-earth of all the ponies I’ve met. Just like Rarity, she can produce an aura that can do things for her. I would have said it was magic but it doesn’t exist. She seemed more talented than the other ponies too. She’s a purple unicorn. She actually helped me tackle my problem of not knowing what the hell was happening. I now know I’m a fox. A rare creature in this land of Equestria. Not very helpful but I made my point. I wished I could return the favour. But before I could do anything, the other ponies turned up still trying to catch me.
With my life flashing, I wondered if I’d done anything right while I was here. I mean I’d made 3 ponies chase me around for one reason or another, I abandoned one to save my own hide and I almost ended up fighting one. But for some reason, the white screen all my memories had been displayed continuously changing text. I read a part of it.
‘No, we don’t know what could happen. I don’t want to kill him.’
‘Pfft, I do.’
‘Rainbow Dash. Don’t.’
‘Anyways, ah reckon we need to get some water. Always wakes up Big Mac when he’s a dozing in the orchard.’
‘On it!’
I just had to wonder what I was hearing. I hadn’t heard this conversation before. It sounded like they were trying to wake some pony up wi-
‘There we go. We’re even.’ I coughed and spluttered as I awoke from my slumber.
‘For what, Rainbow Dash? What did I ever do to you?’ I moaned. I rubbed my eyes with my paws. I was still in Twilight’s House in Ponyville. I was still an animal and I still had no clue what I was doing her. As my vision cleared, I saw 6 ponies and 1 dragon staring in disbelief.
‘What’s wrong?’
