Chapter 165: 164. The element of Ice and Fire
Previous Chapter Next Chapter"Well now, it's about bucking time!" Ice snorted giving a pleased smile as she looked into the beaker she had just poured a certain mixture of chemicals into before using her magic on it. "Hey Steel, Check this out!" She shouted from her workstation to across the room.
Steel as well as the rest of the group of ponies all huddled around Glacia's workstation to see a stable mixture of chemicals and magic sitting quietly on the desk.
"Fantastic! Now we have two down, and two to go." Steel smiled widely as he levitated the mixture in front of him and cast several scan spells onto it to make sure that it was truly stable enough to be implemented into the spell. "It appears to be stable enough Ice, congratulations on your success."
Ice stood there with a smirk plastered across her face, She had works diligently for over a year to finally get to this point, and she was going to rub it in every ponies face as much as she could.
"Yea, well, It wasn't that hard. Just trial and error really. But now that mine is finished I guess that means we can double our efforts to finish the last two. How is that coming along you three?" She grinned as she looked over to Kindle, Forge, and Orion.
"We've been making headway with the tests, but it's still to early to know if it will remain stable for an extended period of time, or indefinitely. Otherwise we will still be melting or blowing stuff up." Orion said as he looked over to his and Forge's workstation.
"My testing has been getting closer to becoming finished. I've been getting more stable reactions, but nothing solid as of yet. I hope to make a breakthrough before Heart's and Hooves Day." Kindle beamed at her near accomplishment.
Fantastic news to hear everypony. Since we are getting so close to our goal, along with Glacia's success in her experiment. I would like to give everyone the rest of the week off to rest and to go over what you have already compiled in data. We will meet again next Monday morning to go over notes." Steel smiled to the group as he turned to head back to his desk.
"Well then, how about we go grab a beer Forge?" Orion chuckled as he nudged his friend.
"You read my mind." Forge chuckled as they went into their locker room to put up their labcoat's.
"Seeya around." Ice smirked as she walked past Kindle toward the locker room as well.
Kindle stood there looking at her workstation, giving a defeated sigh as she mulled over her previous experiments. After a couple of minutes she was startled as Steel walked up to her side.
"Kindle? Is something wrong? I gave everypony the rest of the week off and your still standing here. Something on your mind?" He asked in a rather kind voice that wasn't his normal character.
"I'm....... I'm just annoyed that I haven't made much headway into finding the right alchemical ingredients or combinations to get my spell finished and ready for casting. To have that power indefinitely, but also having it just out of reach is so annoying. I want that power so bad I can feel myself already burning the ground around me." She snorted as her horn lit up a little causing her to visibly radiated heat.
Steel only smiled at these words before he could feel the heat radiating from the young mare. He watched as the ground around her began to discolor from the heat.
"Kindle, your damaging the floor." He spoke out in a monotone to catch her attention.
Kindle's eyes snapped open as her horn stopped glowing. Her body going back to its normal temperature. After a few seconds she looked around her at the discolored floor and gave a sigh as she lowered her head.
"Dammit! I just want to get this crap over with so I can help the others. I know Ice isn't going to help at all now that she has her research finished. Why can't I just cast the stupid spell without the ingredients." She groaned but stopped as she pulled a hoof to her mouth at what she had just said.
"What?!" Steel's voice was low and dangerous as he glared at the young unicorn before him. She turning to meet his gaze and backing away slightly upon seeing his eyes glowing.
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to see what the spell would do without the ingredients." She squeaked. "It worked fine without them, I just wanted to get this done so badly that I didn't care what the consequences were."
Steel stood there as the anger left his face, then was replaced with a grin. "So then, you are dedicated to our cause then?"
"Of course! Why wouldn't I be? I mean, you did offer me unlimited power to take over one of the nations outside of Equestria. I wasn't about to pass that up." She smiled nervously. "Why? Did you think I was going to just take this spell and run?"
"No, but I do have a question, How long have you known that the spell would work without the alchemical ingredients?"
"About a week after we started." She giggled. "I just got bored with all my failures and did the spell without the item's you requested they be done with. I mean, what's another failure if you already know it's going to fail right?" She chuckled. "Boy was I wrong. I was just lucky I was alone at the time, otherwise I may have gotten in trouble from going against procedure."
"So you've been toiling away all this time, still trying to get the spell right with the requested ingredients, even though you knew it would work without them? Why?" He asked giving her a questionable glare.
"I just wanted to do things properly so that we could all work together toward our goal. Regardless of what the others think, I want this, and I'm willing to do anything for that power." She gave a devious grin while making her comment, Steel's grin only matching hers as he nodded over to the door.
"Lock the doors my dear, I am going to show you something quite astonishing." He smiled as his horn lit up, locking one of the doors nearest to him. Kindle doing the same to the other doors on the far side of the room then coming back over to meet her friend and mentor.
"Now, I am only going to ask you this once more. Are you truly dedicated to our cause, and willing to follow our orders without question?" He asked her causing her to blink.
"Our orders?" She asked cocking her head slightly in confusion.
"Yes, our orders, you don't think that all of this was planned just by me do you?" He smirked causing her to nod. "Silly girl, You have yet to meet the one to give me these spells in the first place. She is the one who has requested our help." He grinned a little wider. "I'm sure you've heard of Discord, have you not?"
Kindle gave a nod, feeling the worry of what she was thinking of, actually becoming a reality.
"Well, as you know, Discord has been imprisoned in stone once again upon fighting the new Alicorn. I am not sure of all of the details, but he was powerful enough to put down the God of Chaos. However, Discord's daughter remained alive and well. She is the one who has asked for our help, and is willing to give us the world in return for taking that Alicorn's life. Are you still willing to help us with our endeavor?"
"I am, I want this more than anything. Even if it means I have to take his life, I know that our future will still be far better if we are in control." She smiled wickedly but stopped as she heard a voice from behind her, whipping around to see who had snuck into the room.
"I'm glad to see that you're so willing to help us little one." Screwball smiled to the young mare. "Seeing as you are so willing, I think I can allow you to cast the spell onto yourself without the ingredients added." She smiled warmly, but it quickly turned to a death glare as her eyes focused onto her. "But at the first sign of betrayal, or if you dare to not follow even a single order. I will personally snuff your life from existence. Is that understood?"
Kindle took a step back but nodded. Upon nodding in agreement, Screwball smiled again before turning to Steel.
"She's all yours then Steel, Do make sure she doesn't go insane though." She giggled before vanishing into thin air.
"Insane? What was she talking about?" Kindle asked Steel as she turned to him.
"The spell, without the aid of the ingredients, has been known to drive those that it has been cast on, insane. If you still want to go through with the trial and error of experimenting, you have that option still. But if not, I cannot guarantee that you will remain as you are in the mental capacity. If you have a strong mind and will like me." He trailed off for a moment as his horn glowed softly, releasing his guise to show his true form, causing Kindle to gasp upon seeing him. "Then you will be able to have untold power." He grinned wickedly toward her.
Kindle stood there for a few moments admiring Steel's true form. His body looked like living chromed steel while his eyes glowed a bright white. After a minute she smirked. "So, will I be on fire or something when I cast this spell?"
"My dear, you will have the very element of fire at your command, to do with as you please. What your body will turn into is not something I am familiar with. But if it is anything like me, then it will be just as intimidating." He chuckled.
"So then, how do we do this? Do I just cast the spell?" She asked.
"That's all you need to do. Just remember to put every bit of your magical reserve into the spell. The more power you have in the spell, the less likely chance you will have to go insane." He grinned as he stepped back.
Kindle smirked as she began to focus all of her power into her horn, it steadily began to grow in illumination as time passed on, the clear look of strain spreading across her face as she pumped every ounce of magic into her horn. After a couple of minutes her eyes flew open as the strain was gone and replaced with a blinding light coming from her eyes. The magic was released as her body began to glow a soft red and continued to grow a deeper red. Her mane began to slowly turn transparent as it moved about on its own, slowly turning into a licking flame. After several minutes passed the glowing subsided as she stood there silently, her head lowered and her eyes closed.
Steel stepped forward with his horn glowing, just in case the young unicorn had gone insane from the spell. "Kindle? How do you feel?" He asked.
Kindle slowly raised her head, her eyes glowing a bright red as she grinned wickedly. A plum of fire escaping her lips as she spoke. "What a rush!" She cackled for a moment before smiling toward Steel. "So is this the power you spoke of? I can feel it coursing through my very being. It feels............" She trailed off looking to Steel as he spoke.
"Indescribable? Amazing? More than you could have ever dreamed? I could go on." He laughed seeing her grin.
"By far, it's the best feeling I have ever experienced, and I won't give this up........... for anything, or anypony." She began to laugh softly, slowly turning into a mad cackle.
Samantha stood outside the door peering through the window of the door in complete shock as she looked at the two elemental ponies within the confines of the room. She stepped away quietly, removing her sneakers and walking down the hall to prevent any noise from coming from her as she made her silent escape. Upon exiting the building she quickly made her way home.
"Oh my God! What the hell did I just witness?" Samantha spoke in a shaking voice as she closed the door to her home behind her. Taking a seat and pressing her back against the door. She sat there for some time before she could get up enough nerve to get up and go to her bedroom. She took a seat on her bed, pulling her legs up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them as she went over what she had seen in her head. After a short time had passed, she had decided to keep what she had seen to herself. Going back to work would prove to be a little difficult, acting normally in front of her co-workers possibly harder. But she knew that something was up, and it would be up to her to find out what to do about it.

Just to let everyone know, Kindle's name as a LINK was not made by myself. It has something to do with the coding of the website. I have tried to alter it so that it does not show up as a link without changing the name but have failed. It only goes to google. but I still do not recommend clicking it.
