Whats love got to do with it?
Chapter 148: 148. The perfect mare?
Previous Chapter Next ChapterA/N: A shout out to 501st Party Brigade for the idea to this chapter. It's been a long time coming but I finally got to it.
After some talking with Twilight to find out exactly what the spell would do, she had confirmed that the spell would not remove the specific parts of the pony the caster was thinking about. The spell would only copy the information and put it into a new body. After mulling over the possibilities of the outcome however, he had agreed to cast the spell. The girls had already been gathered in the library for the event.
"Girls, I really feel awkward doing this. You know I love all three of you just the way you are, which confuses me as to why you would even want to do this." Midnight sighed while looking at the three mares before him.
"Well for one, it will show us exactly what you want in the perfect mare by taking your favorite quality from each of us and placing it into a new body. You won't have to worry about the spell lasting to long though. At most it will last three days, or as low as a day. Then the mare that had formed will just disappear." Twilight smirked seeing Midnight still looking rather uncomfortable.
"Besides darling. We will all still be here with you. There will be nothing to worry about." Rarity piped up giving a smile.
Midnight gave an annoyed sigh as he looked over the spell one more time, his horn lighting up as he readied it to be cast.
"I can't believe you three are so willing to torment me like this." He snorted seeing them giggle.
"Jes cast the spell." AJ smirked seeing Midnight roll his eyes.
Midnight released the spell onto the three mares before him. They all began to slowly glow brighter and brighter until Midnight could no longer keep his eyes on them, bringing up a forehoof to shield his eyes, he waited. After a minute of waiting the light slowly began to fade to the point where he could look at them once again. As he lowered his hoof he gawked for a moment as all he saw was a single mare laying quietly on the floor with her eyes closed.
"You have got to be kidding me..........." Midnight choked out as he starred at the mare laying quietly on the floor. The three others nowhere in sight. He looked around, speaking up to try and find the others.
"Girls?! This isn't funny. If your playing a prank on me then please stop it. This isn't funny." He spoke out in worry as he looked around the room, only to stop as a soft groan escaped the mare on the floor.
"Ugh, where am I?" She spoke out as her hoof slowly moved to her forehead, rubbing gently.
"Are you ok...........?" He trailed off as he realized that he didn't know what to cal the new mare. "What's your name my dear?"
She slowly shook her head to try and clear the fog as she got to her hooves. Midnight just now being able to take in what she looked like as he gazed at her in shock. Her coat was a deep royal purple, Much darker than Twilight's coat, or Rarity's mane. Her mane however was rather wavy Blueish Purple, with a single orange streak running through it and her tail. Also with being two unicorns and an earth pony, she had a horn as well. After finally opening her eyes and connecting with Midnight's, his heart melted at the site seeing one green eye and one blue eye. After a moment of gazing at her dreamily he shook himself back to reality.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to stare." He said as he helped her to her hooves.
"Thank you Midnight." She smiled Shyly causing him to stop for a moment before speaking.
"I take it you have the collective memory of my three ladies don't you." He smiled softly to her seeing her nod. "But what about a name? I don't think they came up with one before this spell was cast."
"Well........." She trailed off for a moment as she looked herself over, then to her Cutie Mark that was a combination of the three mares that she had formed from. It was a single apple that was in the form of a gem with little magical sparkles all around it. The color of the gem was a bright red while the sparkles were white. After seeing her cutiemark for the first time she looked back up to Midnight with a smile. "How does Ruby sound?"
"That sounds like a wonderful name." He chuckled but suddenly stopped as a pair of hooves were wrapped around his neck.
Ruby pulled back for a moment giving another shy smile as she looked into the stallions eyes before her.
"Uh...." Midnight trailed off as his mane began to turn a lighter shade of red.
"Now don't ya'll get embarrassed." She giggled. "I may be your favored collective parts of your mares, but I am still those three mares." She smirked only the way AJ could.
"So that means, everything that those three have experienced.............. You know about?" He stopped as his mane began to burn a soft pink.
"Yep." She giggled. "Which means I know all of your little ticks." She smirked again as she began to walk around him, flicking her tail to his nose teasingly.
"You do realize that means that I also know your ticks as well." He grinned as his wing gently pressed against a specific spot on her side causing her to jump away giggling. 'Heh, Rarity's tickle spot.'
"Well, ah must say that I have my work cut out for me. You knowing my ticks, and I yours. I think this is going to be a rather interesting day." She giggled but stopped as a growl escaped her stomach.
"I take it that none of my ladies had breakfast did they?" Midnight chuckled seeing her sheepish expression. "Come on, let's go have some lunch."
Ruby gave a nod as she jumped onto his back giving a giggle and wrapping her hooves around his neck while nuzzling the side of his head. He rolled his eyes as they left the library heading toward the diner just down the street. As he trotted along however, he received a few odd looks from ponies that he would pass. Some cocking a brow, while other just gave a smile or giggle. He would hate to admit it, but this is the kind of thing he liked. Having a loving mare that would show some affection while in public. He thought for a moment giving a smile. 'This is part of Rarity that has come out.'
After a few minutes walk they arrived at the diner, Ruby hopping from his back as they both went in and took a seat at Midnight's normal booth. Once seated, Ruby picked up a menu and began looking over it to find what she want. Midnight always picked the same thing so he just sat back and admired the mare sitting across form him. As they waited, Plum Sweet arrived to take their order, giving the new mare a peculiar glance before turning back to Midnight.
"So we have a new friend?" She asked with a cocked brow.
"More like several combined into one." He chuckled causing her to look back to the mare who just misled to her.
"He cast a spell onto his fiance's which combined them into a single pony, which would be me. Hi, mah names Ruby." She smiled to Plum who just starred for a moment.
"Fiance's?" Plum piped up. "Just how many mares have you got wrapped around your hoof?" She smirked.
"Well, four currently." He chuckled seeing her eyes go a little wide. "Applejack, Rarity, Twilight, and Celestia."
Plum stood there dumbfounded before realizing that she was in the presence of her new king and gave a bow.
"I'm sorry, had I known I wou..........." She was stopped as she saw Midnight hoof in her vision that had been lowered due to her bow. He gave the motion for her to rise, as she did she saw him smiling to her.
"Don't worry about the formalities sweetheart. Today we are just two ponies having lunch." He chuckled giving her a wink.
Plum rose quickly giving a smile. "Very well then, I take it you're getting the usual?" She looked to Midnight seeing him give a nod before she turned to Ruby. "And what will you have?"
"Hmmmmm, Ah'd like slice of apple pie, a garden salad. a large apple cider, and ah daisy sandwich." She smiled to her before noticing Midnight's cocked brow. "Whut? Ah'm hungry." She said with a grin.

As the time passed them by, they chatted away while waiting for their lunch. They were by no means strangers at all, as Midnight new much about his ladies, while Ruby had the collective knowledge of them along with Midnight's favorite little things about his ladies. Once the food had arrived they both made quick work of it, paying for the meal and then leaving just as they arrived.
"So what do you want to do?" Midnight asked her as he trotted along with her on his back.
"How about we go for a little flight session. It has been a while since you've taken us flying." She smirked before giving his ear a nip.
"Better hold on then." He laughed as his wings spread wide before he gave them a hard flap, launching them both into the sky. Ruby giving out a loud shriek as the wind rushed by.
After a minute of gaining some altitude, he leveled off and began to glide along with the cold air currents. It was still late in the year and the sky was filled with snow filled clouds, ready to drop snowflakes at a moments notice.
"It is rather beautiful up here." She smiled as she looked toward the ground and out into the distance to see the horizon.
"It sure is." Midnight smiled as he turned his head to look at the mare on his back. After a few seconds of looking around she noticed his gaze and began to blush profusely.
"Stop that, I can't believe you picked all three bashful natures of us. I feel like Fluttershy right now trying to hide away." She giggled softly.
"Well, your not as bad as her, but its still adorable." He smirked before getting a jab in the shoulder. "OW, and I guess that was AJ getting me back."
"Ya think?" She smirked to him before leaning up closer toward his face.
"Uh........." He began as his mane began to turn a light pink.
"My my..... embarrassed? I wouldn't think you of all ponies would be embarrassed around me." She grinned.
"Well......." He trailed of giving a shy smile. "I know your all three of my ladies combined, but I feel a little strange about doing anything with you because they would know about it. Plus I don't think AJ would be into having more than one pony in a party, if ya know what I mean." He chuckled.
"If I had any doubts darling, I wouldn't act this way. If one of them says no, then that would automatically make me choose not to do something. As of this moment though, I can't help but feel a little put off by the way your acting. Keeping me from having any fun is just torture." She said while pouting her lip out just as Rarity would.
Midnight kept flying as he let what she said sink in. After analyzing what she had said, he had come to the conclusion that all three personalities were not in fact bound together, but staying together and deciding what should be done in those situations. Once he had thought everything over, he gave a sinister grin before speaking once again.
"Alright then, how about we go into town and grab a few apples for a snack, Go to that fancy dress shop in Canterlot to grab a couple of dress, then to the antique book store to grab a couple first editions, then head over to Sweet Apple Acres to have a bonfire using the books and dresses as kindling?" He looked back to see Ruby's face contort between joy and anger. It kept going back and forth for a minute before she gave a snort.
"What the hell!? Ain't ya'll got any sense in that thick skull'o yours?" She shouted, causing Midnight to laugh.
"Sorry, I just wanted to make sure my assumptions were correct." He laughed.
"An what would that be?" She asked giving an annoyed look.
"That your separate personalities can still conflict with one another if I say or do something that one of them doesn't approve of."
Ruby's eye lit up at the comment as she began to mull over everything. Obviously now Twilight had taken over once something scientific came forth.
"That is very interesting! Several personalities fighting over a decision. Even if one of them liked on part of the suggestion, and the others didn't, the body would become conflicted between the decisions on what to do. Wow." She giggled.
"But that means there is a problem with the spell." Midnight spoke up causing her to look at him oddly. "That means since my ladies have combined into a single entity, that pony, namely you, will have a separate personality from them that is apparently passive. Once they make a decision on something then you would follow it. If one of them did not agree while the other two did. You would do it, but you would also be conflicted and feel uneasy or bad about doing what you did. However, since the girls are friends, then they would usually settle on one agreement so as to not make the third uncomfortable. Sound about right?"
Ruby mulled over the concept for a minute before smiling. "That seem logical. But pulling a prank like that to cause an intense emotion is what seems to cause the conflicting natures to start. I would suggest not doing that again, for fear of it having a side effect on the personalities."
"Alright then. So what now? I've already circled Ponyville three times now." He chuckled causing her to press a hoof to her chin in thought.
"Let's get back to the library. As much as I would like to continue this little experiment, it seems as if we have run into a wall that could cause some troubles."
Midnight gave a nod as he nosed down, gliding quickly into town and landing just outside the library. Once they made their way in, Ruby grabbed up the book and turned it to the spell page they had used before to get the cancellation spell.
"Here you go, Just cast this and we'll be back to normal." She smiled.
Midnight stood there for a moment looking from the book to Ruby, then back. "Something wrong?" She asked before Midnight moved in giving her a quick kiss. She stood there for a moment in slight shock, but smiled up to him after it had worn off.
"Sorry, But I had to at least give the perfect mare a kiss before never seeing her again."
"You know that is a bunch of hooey right? Just get use back together and cast the spell. I don't mind waiting." She smirked giving him a wink as she moved in giving him a slower kiss. After a minute they moved away from one another smiling.
"Just don't forget me." She smiled as Midnight's horn lit up, causing the mare before him to glow a bright white light. After a minute it faded leaving three mares laying on the floor of the library.
"You three back to normal?" Midnight spoke up causing them to jump slightly as their eyes flickered open.
"Why do I feel like I'm covered in hair spray?" Rarity piped up.
"Why do uh feel so weak?" Twilight groaned.
"And why do I feel so heavy?" AJ spoke up in a normal tone.
"For one, Rarity, you use like a can each time you fix your mane. Two, Twi, you need to stop studying so much and get out more, and three. AJ your an earth pony, that's normal." Midnight chuckled but stopped as the three mares looked at each other, their mouths agape.
"YOUR ME!" They all shouted as they pointed to each other in shock.
"Uh........... what just happened?" Midnight asked while looking between the three mares.
