Whats love got to do with it?
Chapter 143: 143. Breakfast with a side of bad news
Previous Chapter Next ChapterMorning arrived all to quickly for the three parts of Midnight. Although the prior night was eventful for two of the three, Blade had decided to be a gentlepony about staying in the same bed with his orange love. They stay in each others arms for the entire night, relishing each others heat as the cold winter night fell over the farm. Blanketing it in a small layer of snow.
Before the sun crested onto the horizon, Blade had slowly made his way from the bed to downstairs quickly in order to start breakfast for the Apple Family. After about thirty minutes of cooking several dishes and setting the table, he gave a proud smile at what he had accomplished with being an earth pony and not being able to use magic to quicken what he had already done.
Just as he was finishing with the last of the pancakes he trained his ears backwards hearing the soft clip clop of hooves on the wooden floors of the farm house as they came nearer, but very slowly. Without breaking his view from the range he spoke up.
"Mornin Granny Smith. Ah just finished the flapjacks, wouldja like fer me teh make ya a plate?" He spoke up as he turned seeing the old green mare setting down at the table giving a soft smile to him.
"Why thank ya sonny, but if'n ya don't mind my askin, ya look a lot like my grand daughters stallion, but ah coulda swore he was one'o them Alicorns." She spoke up just as he had finished placing a couple flapjacks onto her plate along with two eggs and some toast.
"Well, yer right on the money there, cept now ah'm an earth pony. One'o her friends cast a spell onteh me and split me inteh three ponies. Ah'd be the brawn'o the bunch." He chuckled as he went back to the sink to clean the dishes that he had just dirtied in order to cook.
"That's a might strange, but still, ah'd say yer manners'ave improved, as well as that flank." She chuckled as she watched him turn back to her giving a wink.
"Now don't ya'll start flirtin or AJ might have some competition on'er hooves." He laughed.
"Shoooooot, back in mah day ah was a purty thang. Ah had stallions from all'round coming teh try their hooves at courting meh. Now ah'm jes an old mare in a house, raising three'o mah grandchildren. Ain't got much time left, but ah'll surenuff love everybit'o it s'long as ah got mah Grandkids, and maybe a great grandchild as well." She smirked to the stallion who only smirked back.
"Honestly, ah wouldn't mind having a foal with AJ, but she is a might stubborn when ti comes to workin'round the farm. Only problem ah'd have with it is gettin her to actually keepin teh the house while she's carrying. Wouldn't want anythang happnin to the lit'lin." He chuckled.
"Really now?" Big Macintosh spoke up as he trotted quietly into the kitchen.
The two stallions gave each other a nod before Big Macintosh strode up to his grandmothers side giving her a quick hug.
"Morning Granny, Thought ah smelt a good breakfast being made down'ere." He chuckled softly before giving a slight sniffle.
"Ere'now, take a seat an ah'll get ya a plate brother." Blade smiled over to him seeing him nod in acceptance of the help.
"So'ave ya talked teh AJ bout having a foal?" He spoke up again as he sat down at the table.
"Not yet, but ah figgered since ah was split up ah'd ask her now since when ah'm whole ah tend teh be a might weak round mares. Specially AJ." He chuckled. "Then when ah'm whole again, we can talk about it more thoroughly since ah got the ball a'rollin."
"Or we can skip the conversation since ya done spoke with mah family bout it." AJ spoke up as she entered the kitchen giving a smirk.
"Ah swear, ya'll got cotton shoes if'n ah can hear yer granny coming teh the kitchen WHILE ah'm cookin, but cain't hear ya'll while we're chatting all quiet like." Blade laughed. "So now that ya know sugar, what do ya think?"
AJ sat down at the table blushing a bright red as she looked around at her granny, then her brother, before stopping on Blade.
"Well, ah ain't gettin any younger, plus ah would like teh have a lit'lin afor it's grannies time." She gave a saddened smile looking to Granny Smith.
"Now don'tcha rush nothin on my account youngin. Ah may be old, but ah ain't down'n'out yet." Granny Smith smiled to AJ.
"Ya know AJ, I dun think ah ever asked ya how old ya are. Ya wouldn't want teh have a youngin to young now." Blade spoke up as he took a seat at the table to fix himself a plate as AJ was already making her own.
"Ah'm twenty-four, Big Mac is twenty-eight, AB is ten, an Granny Smith is....." She stopped as Granny Smith yelled.
"HOLD ON NOW! Don't ya'll be telling this here fella mah age. Ah might not be as spry as ah used teh be but ah still got mah pride teh think of." SHe spoke out in surprise making them all giggle.
"No worries Granny Smith, Dun matter how old ya are on the outside, It's what ya feel like on the inside that counts." Blade chuckled giving her a wink.
"Darn tootin." Granny spoke up giving a chuckle.
They all continued talking throughout the morning as they enjoyed breakfast. Applebloom was awoken a short time later so that she could enjoy her breakfast as well before the morning chores started. Once she had finished, she went upstairs to check on her brother who still had his cold and was told to remain in bed for the day while she looked after him.
Granny Smith stayed inside doing a few things here and there while AJ and Blade had left the house to go and feed the animals around the farm as well as clearing some of the snow so they could roam freely in there pens. It wasn't long before everything was finished and they would head toward the library to meet up with Twilight to see if she had found any information on the spell that had split the Alicorn into thirds.

Clouds exploded left and right as two pegasi were flying around and through many of them as they raced through the sky. Flame was having some difficulty keeping up with the cyan pegasus he had spent the night with. During there encounter however, Flame had made the mistake of calling the young mare Skittles out loud causing her to get more the slightly annoyed. So she had ended up nicknaming him Flop instead of Flame, emphasizing her remark with his quote saying he was 'The fastest stallion in Equestria.' while nodding to the bed. So after a slightly heated argument, they had decided to make a bet on who would win a race from her home to Ponyville while clearing as many of the regular clouds as possible, each being sure to count there's and the others while in flight.
After a good five minutes of flying and busting up some clouds they arrived neck and neck, landing just outside of the library.
"HA! I so won that race." Flame smirked toward Dash.
"Yeah right! I so left you in the dust." Dash smirked back.
"No way!"
"Yes way!"
They continued shouting back and forth for a minute pressing their foreheads together and looking into each others eyes as their snarls and snorts came to a stop as they suddenly embraced each other, kissing hard.
"I beginning to think that arguing with me is a turn on for you." Flame smirked again as he pulled away from her.
"Hey, when somepony puts up as good of a fight as me to win a race only to tie with me, they deserve a little attention." She smirked before walking toward the door of the library while flicking her tail back toward Flame.
"Well, I try not to disappoint." He grinned as he trotted quickly up behind her giving a quick lick and causing her to jump into the air as her face burst forth into a bright red.
"You are something else! Midnight would have NEVER been this forward in public." She giggled before landing next to him.
"Well, I guess that chivalrous side of him isn't part of me. Cause I can't wait to leave you in the dust the next time we fly." He laughed giving her a playful nudge.
"Right back at ya slow poke." She retorted before they entered the library to see Blade and AJ already sitting nearby while Buckler and Twilight were talking quietly in the next room out of sight.
"Hey there earthworm." Flame picked toward Blade.
"Sup feather brain." He retorted only to get a sneer as Flame began to walk toward him, AJ quickly getting up and getting between them.
"Now hold on boys, this ain't no time teh be fighting. The princess is in the next room talkin with Twi and Buck about whats going on with this hoo ha of a spell. She asked us to stay in here."
Flame gave a snort toward Blade who did the same before turning and moving to Dash's side. They all took a seat as they waited for the others to come back into the room.

In the other room Celestia was having a hard time coming to terms with what was going on with the ancient spell and the curse that had befallen the father of her child. She mulled over all the possibilities that could have happened within that short time frame that was Midnight's vacation, but could not come to a conclusion.
"Twilight, Buckler, I am sorry to say that I am without answer to this particular problem. Although it has happened in the past, I am afraid to admit that I never found a cure or counter spell for what had happened to the individuals that had the same curse. I will however search the royal archives to try and locate a spell that would remedy this situation. But in the mean time I need you all to take care of each other so that nothing else will befall you." She sighed as she stood up heading toward the door to the other room.
"I am saddened to hear that I we may stay like this, but at least it isn't that bad." Buckler smiled.
"How can you say it isn't all bad? What could possibly benefit you so much that you would willingly accept staying this way." Twilight asked in surprise.
"Because I can now spend more time with you. I know that you and Myself as a whole were an item at one point and I can safely say that my feelings have not changed in the slightest. Applejack has Blade as well, the only problem I can see is with Flame. He and Dash go well together but Rarity is without Midnight. I would accept staying in this form if it meant staying with you, but I cannot in good conscience do this know that I would be hurting one of my other ladies in the process. The decision is hard I will admit, but I will go with the right one, and try to find a spell or item to bring us back into a whole being." He sighed looking away. In his heart he wanted to stay with Twilight, they both had so much in common while at the same time being lovers and best friends. It was as if he could properly understand the mare of his dreams as a whole, but only with a third of his being.
"I shall return to Canterlot to search the archives to begin my search, I will gather the professors from the college as well to help aid in the search and temporarily cancel classes. This issue demands our attention to its fullest. Twilight, I shall keep you informed of our progress. Buckler, I know this is hard but please remember, you are part of a single entity, It would not be fair to Midnight if you and your other selves did not combine back into him. I hope you understand." She sighed before leaving the room into the main part of the library.
Once Celestia entered the front part of the library, the four ponies that were once seated, rose and gave a bow to her before rising again.
"Flame, Blade, I know this is sudden, but I must head back to Canterlot. Buckler and Twilight will fill you in on our conversation." She said before stopping at the door an looking back. "And I want you three to get along peacefully. If I hear that you have been fighting again I will personally lock you two up until this issue is resolved. Is that understood?" She spoke giving a soft stomp with her fore hoof.
The two stallions looked to each other then back to the princess giving a slight gulp. "Yes your majesty." They spoke in unison eliciting a smile from her.
"Good, Now I shall be on my way." She spoke before she left the library. As soon as the door closed a small flash of light and a quiet snap indicated her having teleported back to the castle.
"So what was all that about that fighting?" Flame asked looking to Buckler.
"Celestia stated that if we fall into disharmony with each other that even if a counter spell could be located, we would not be able to reform as Midnight because we cannot agree on a simple matter." He sighed as he mulled over the long term affects of them all being apart.
"So that mean you three are going to get along if we have to tie you together in order to do it." Twilight spoke up as she pressed forward.
"So how long is this going to take? Because I hate waiting." Flame spoke up again.
"Anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks." Buckler said causing them to gasp.
"WHAT!? No way!" Dash gawked.
"I'm sorry, but that is how it has to be. The princess will be putting aside her royal duties in order to help locate any information that could aid in our return as Midnight. We will just have to make due for the time being." Buck said with a sigh.
"Well, this is gonna be a fun time." AJ chuckled.
