Chapter 140: 140. DENIED! But in a good way.

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

The following day came quickly for Kindle as she awoke to the sounds of the bustling city. Sleep had found her quickly for some reason the previous night, which confused her greatly. Normally she would toss and turn while in bed thinking of the days events that had passed her by before finally finding sleep in the wee hours of the morning. Last night however she felt comfort for the first time in a long time. As she went through her morning routine she thought back to the prior nights events. Having spoken to Midnight about being human and about his open relationship. She knew it would be a lot easier to bed him than she had previously thought, but one thing continued to bother her. This would be her first time with a stallion. What should she expect? How should she react to the situation? These questions plagued her mind until she had arrived at the lab a little earlier than her normal arrival time, which surprised most of the others who were already in the process of finishing breakfast or coffee while sitting at their stations.

"You seem awful cheerful this morning." Forge spoke up before taking a sip of his coffee.

"Yea, I just had a good night last night after work. Plus I actually slept well for the first time in years." She smiled back.

"Hmph." Ice snorted before turning to her workstation to begin her testing.

Kindle gave a sigh looking over to Ice before turning to her workstation to begin her research for the day.

"It's going to be a long day." She sighed.

Lunch arrived quicker than Kindle had thought as she heard the intercom buzz at her station, startling her a little. "Kindle, Mr. Flame has arrived and is requesting your presence." The receptionist spoke quietly over the intercom causing Kindle to smile. She began to trot toward the door but stopped as Steel was standing next to it.

"Don't forget the specimen jars." He said as he floated a few of them over to her. Kindle gave an annoyed glance but took them up, placing them within a saddle bag and placing them onto her back before exiting the room, heading toward the lobby. As she walked into the lobby she saw Midnight sitting next to a small table while reading a magazine to help pass the time. As he heard her hoofsteps along the marble floor though, his vision lifted from the magazine to give a smile seeing her.

"Hey there, ready for lunch?" He asked giving a smile.

"Sure am, where would you like to go? I have plenty of time, Steel gave me the rest of the day off." She smiled seeing him beam.

"Great! But........" He trailed off for a moment. "I'm not familiar with the city. Is there any place you would like to go? Anywhere is fine, it's on me." He chuckled.

"Well there is a nice upper class place about six blocks from here. If you don't mind some snooty ponies glancing at you, the food is great there." She spoke as they left the building.

"Sounds good to me. But six blocks? Really? It will take a while to walk there with all of these ponies on the street, how about a quick flight instead? Since I can't teleport their." He smirked down to the fire red pony.

"Sure, but how am I going to fly there?" She smirked back giving a nod to her back. "No wings."

"Who said you had to fly?" He chuckled as he laid down, motioning to his back. "Hop on."

Kindle's eyes went a little wide looking from his back to his face. "A-are you sure? You won't drop me will you?" She spoke nervously.

"You'll be safe, I promise." He smiled as he watched her slowly climb onto his back and rest between his wings before wrapping her hooves around his neck from behind.

"Alright then, here we go." He laughed as he stood up and began to gallop quickly to gain some speed as his wings opened up, giving a powerful pump as he launched himself into the sky. Kindle screeching loudly from his back and closing her eyes shut.

As Midnight leveled off, Kindle stopped screaming as she felt his wings no longer moving, but felt the rush of wind moving past them. She opened her eyes giving an audible gasp as she took in the site before her. They were flying high above the city making a large loop around it.

"This is amazing!" She spoke softly.

"I know, right? Nothing like being able to fly and see the scenery from above. So where is this place you mentioned?" Midnight spoke up garnering her attention.

After a quick glance to see where the lab was below and what direction it was pointing she looked around to finally locate the place in question.

"Down there." She pointed a hoof at a specific building but quickly returned it to around the Alicorns neck to hold on as he began to quickly descend.

After a couple minutes of descending they landed quietly onto the street in front of the restaurant, heading to the door. Once Midnight entered however, he was greeted by an middle aged unicorn with a mustache and a fancy looking tuxedo top.

"May I help you sire?" He asked giving a slight bow.

"My friend and I would like a booth please." Midnight smiled giving a nod to the unicorn.

"Very good sire, please follow me." He spoke as he picked up a couple menu's before leading them through the dining area filled with other ponies sitting at other tables. Many of which stopped eating and starred at the fire maned Alicorn and the young mare following him to a booth on the far side of the diner. They quickly took their seats as quiet murmurs began to spread across the restaurant.

"Why is everypony staring at us like that?" Kindle asked, feeling a little unnerved.

"Well, you are having lunch with the only male Alicorn in existence. I would take a guess that all of the mare's are jealous, and all the stallions are wanting you for themselves since I was lucky enough to have you as my date." He chuckled softly seeing her gawk slightly.

"Jealous? Seriously?" She spoke in shock before glancing quickly around at all of the sour looks she was getting from every mare in the room, as well as all the sultry gazes from the stallions.

"It happens a lot when I have lunch or dinner with a guest. I've even gotten quite a few odd looks when I went to a bar with another stallion who is a good friend of mine. For three weeks everypony around thought I was for the other team." Midnight chuckled causing Kindle to blush profusely from the thought.

"I'm beginning to regret coming here." Kindle spoke softly trying to hide behind her menu as she unfolded it to find what she would like for lunch.

"Don't worry my dear, the staring won't be long. They usually loose interest once our food arrives. In the meantime however, pick what you want. I am paying after all." He chuckled.

After a few minutes they had picked what they wanted to eat and placed the order. The drinks were brought out quickly before hand. Midnight choosing a soda, and Kindle a lemonade.

"So tell me about yourself my dear, I'm rather interested in why you chose magical science as your field of study." Midnight smiled to her as he took a sip of his drink.

"Well, I love studying in the field of magic and it's applications to various subjects. Researching various effects of items and ponies from various spells is rather interesting. Magical applications are only limited to what we currently have available to cast spells on. That, plus some ponies can develop allergies or ailments toward certain spells. It is fascinating to see what effect will play out on various non-living items." Kindle spoke happily to the Alicorn, finally happy that somepony is willing to listen to her interest in her field of study.

"Interesting, You stated the other day that you have been researching something for a while but have not had any luck with its application. What is it you are trying to do exactly?" Midnight asked causing her to suddenly tense up.

"Well........... I'm not really at liberty to say." She trailed off as she looked away.

"Ah, ok, classified information I take it." He chuckled. "Say no more, I don't want you to get into trouble over that." He smiled to her getting one in return.

"What about you? I've heard rumors about your entrance into this world but I'd like to hear it from the source. Care to elaborate on that?" Kindle said before setting her drink down.

"You sure you want to hear that? It's rather boring." He chuckled again before seeing her nod.

As time went on her began to tell her how he arrived in this world and his previous life on earth. How magic didn't exist in his world and how plain life was for each and every being on the planet. Kindle felt sorry for the human race having to deal with life the way they did. They continued on until the food arrived, ignoring the other ponies within the restaurant who eventually got back to their own conversations. Once the couple had finished eating and paid the tab, they left the restaurant heading to no place in general. They would continue walking down the street and do a little window shopping, even stopping into a local Spencers to look at all of the weird items and gag gifts on display. Midnight picked out a few items of interest to give to his ladies back home as well as purchasing a unicorn hat for Kindle that she thought was rather humorous. The hat itself having a hollow horn attached to it so that she could place her horn inside of it while it was on her head. It was actually a gag gift for earth ponies and pegasi as it would make them look like a unicorn or Alicorn.

They continued walking along until they reached the local park and decided to take a seat under one of the larger trees nearby. Midnight pulling out a large blanket from his stash portal and placing it on the ground for the two of them.

"This has been a rather pleasant day, Thank you Midnight, for taking me out to lunch. It's been a while since I've actually been on a date like this." She spoke, but suddenly stopped and covered her mouth at what she had just said. Midnight cocked a brow to her sudden remark and expression of disbelief at what she had said before chuckling.

"A date? And here I thought it was just a friendly get together for lunch."

"I'm sorry, I meant to say......." She stopped seeing him smile at her.

"Don't worry yourself. I've been on so many dates or get-togethers in the past that I can't really tell them apart now. If you consider this a date, then by all means, it's a date." He smiled down to her seeing her beam back. After a few moments she gave a contented sigh as she shuffled closer to the Alicorn and leaning against him. He opened a wing, gently draping it over her like a living blanket. It was already later in November, and the days had been getting far colder as of late. Normally the cold did not affect pegasi or Alicorns as they were made for high altitudes, and also, some very cold weather. For unicorns however, they relied on their magic to cast warming spells onto themselves in order to stay warm. That, or a friendly wing from a friend or lover.

"This is wonderful." Kindle sighed softly to herself as she nuzzled into Midnight. His wing pulling her closer to his side as she let the warmth dull her senses. She gave a large yawn while looking around before snapping herself awake seeing a pony in the distance near a tree. Steel was standing silently looking at her with his glowing white eyes, a silent conversation sent between them, Steel telling her to hurry up with the plans while she was telling him not to rush it. After the silent word exchange Steel turned, heading behind the tree and vanishing from sight. Kindle looked up to the Alicorn who had his head slightly bent down looking at her as he noticed her sudden gaze.

"Something on your mind?" He asked.

"Well......" She trailed off again. "I was thinking that this was such a wonderful day, and you've been so kind to me with listening to me rant on about my work and such." She trailed off for a moment looking away.

"Listen, don't feel obligated to do anything. This was just a friendly get together, It won't bother me if you decide to call it a night right now and we part ways." Midnight spoke up giving her a playful nudge.

"Cute, but honestly, I appreciate you having done everything that you've done for me today. I wouldn't mind, you know, spending the evening together." She said before blushing behind her coat.

'Wow, did she just really say that? I haven't even put on the charm today to get this far. This is starting to feel a little strange.' Midnight thought to himself as he listened to her. 'Maybe I should try to steer this away from what it's heading to. hmmmmm, no better way to defuse the situation than to be blunt.'

"So....." He trailed off for a moment before sighing inwardly, thinking that he would like to be with this mare, but for some reason it felt forced by her. "Nightcap then?" He gave a smirk seeing her eyes go wide for a moment.

'Yup, defused.' He chuckled inwardly again.

"Read my mind did you?" She giggled.

'WHAT!? No fucking way it was that easy. She has either got to be easy or naive because NOPONY is that easy.' He thought to himself while looking at her expression which seemed slightly more like a forced grin.

"My place or yours?" He asked, hoping she would feel a little turned off about everything, if not totally.

"Let's go to the hotel, I'd rather not mess up my bed since the hotel cleans the rooms daily." She chuckled softly.

As the two made their way from the park to the hotel, Midnight began to feel more and more unsure about the whole thing. Normally in this situation, he would just go with the flow, but something just felt off about the way she was acting. As they got into the room however, Midnight watched as the young mare attempted to walk while swinging her hips seductively toward the bed.

'Man she is really bad at this, It even looks forced.' He sighed to himself watching her jump onto the bed.

"Well? Don't keep a lady waiting." She smirked giving him a wink as he walked over.

"Kindle, I can't help but get the feeling that something seems a little off about this whole situation. Are you sure you want to do this? I'm not forcing you." He spoke with concern in his voice which only made her heart jump into her throat.

"I......... I want this. Why? Do you not want me?" She asked giving a pout, trying to further lure the Alicorn in.

"It's not that, it just feels like your forcing yourself to do this, like you haven't done this sort of thing before." He stopped as he saw her expression changed and a blush making her body turn a deeper shade of red. "Your a virgin, aren't you?" He asked, causing her to lower her head slightly.

"Y-yes, is that a bad thing?" She asked before looking up to his now serious expression.

"Kindle, what's going on? No pony I have ever met that was a virgin would act this way. You are forcing yourself to do this and it's making you very uncomfortable." He snorted as he took a seat next to the bed on the floor.

"I-I'm not forcing myself to do anything, why do you think that? Now come on, get up here already." She smiled nervously while patting the spot next to her.

"Sorry doll, as much as I would like for this to happen, I have to call this off. No offense toward yourself because you have been a very enchanting pony today. But I have some strict morals I follow which also prevent me from doing something with you."

"What the hell are you talking about? I thought you wanted to rut?" She spoke out in a more annoyed tone.

"Sorry doll, I'm going to say this one last time. Your a very nice pony, but a rutting session between us just ain't happening right now." He sighed.

"Fine then. Can you at least tell me why?" She growled.

Midnight's expression turned a lot softer as he began to speak. "You haven't found your special somepony yet, you should save yourself for them. Don't rut somepony just because you want to force yourself to. Something like that needs to be special. I'm sure you will find somepony in time, but I'm sorry to say that it can't be me."

Kindle gawked slightly as to what she had just heard. Being turned down from rutting because he felt that she was forcing herself. He could tell she was uncomfortable about the whole situation and in turn it made him feel bad about it. She couldn't help but smile as she pulled herself from the bed and walked over to him, giving him a warm hug before releasing it and heading toward the door.

"Thank you." She said with a soft smile. "I wish I could find a stallion like you one day." She gave a soft giggle before exiting the room leaving a slightly stunned Alicorn in her wake.

"O......kay?" He trailed of rather surprised. "That usually took a lot longer on previous mares. How the hell did this go so quick?" he gawked as he mulled over what had just happened.

As Kindle left the hotel, she made her way down the street toward her home. As she rounded the corner she saw steel standing there with a smile. "I take it you succeeded?" He smiled wider as his magic grabbed the saddlebags from the young mare and pulled them over to himself as he quickly opened them and pulled out the jars. He stopped however as he saw that they were empty.

"What?!" He spoke out in shock looking back to the young mare.

"Sorry, it didn't work out as planned." She spoke as she went to pass him but stopped at his side.

"You do realize this is going to lengthen the time needed to make our plans come to fruition don't you?" He snarled.

"I do, and I am sorry for failing." She spoke as she continued on into her home, closing and locking the door behind her as she fell to the floor pressing her back to the door.

"I'm glad it didn't happen." She spoke softly to herself. "He is right though, I should find a special somepony that I can truly give myself to."
