Living As An Equestrian
Chapter 3: This Strange New World
Previous Chapter Next ChapterOpening your eyes, you were blinded by the brightness of the sun, you blocked it with your hand and observed your surroundings. From what you could see you were in a forest, lying next to what looked like a gravel road. Slowly pulling yourself up from the dry grass you looked around thinking about what to do now, what had Discord said to you?
Find a pony named Twilight Sparkle and tell her about this letter, you looked down in your hand and realized that you no longer had the letter. Desperately looking around for it, under every rock and bush near you, but it was nowhere to find.
"Well, now what?" You said, kicking your feet down into the ground.
"Woohoo, howdy there stranger!" A voice yelled behind you coming down the road.
As you turned around towards the voice you were greeted by an orange colored pony with a beautiful blond mane and tail, but something was wrong. It was not the kind of pony you had seen before, or you had, but that was in a TV show for kids a long time ago. And you had to admit, this pony casually walking towards you reminded a lot about one the main stars of that show, Applejack... But surely that couldn't be right, you were just seeing things, right?
"Uhmm... Everything alright sugar cube, you look rather frozen?" She said as she walked up to you.
"Uhh... Ummm... Ahhhh..." Not even anything close to a word came out of you, all you did was standing there, confused over the current situation.
"Haha no need to be shy dear, I won't bite. Names Applejack, now, what can I do you for?" She spoke once more, still standing right in front of you.
Yup, its official now... You were going crazy, there was no way that all this could be real. You thought.
But as seconds past by you finally took the chance, and spoke up.
"Okay let me just be clear here, I have no idea where I am and I can't find that stupid letter that Discord gave me, so I was wondering..." Applejack quickly interrupted you before you could finish up your line.
"Wait, you know Discord?... As in Discord Discord, when did you meet him?" She asked, looking at you with what looked like a concerned face.
"its a long story and i got more important things to do right now, like finding that letter... Maybe that'll explain why i ended up her." A mix of frustration and tiredness had started to grow within you, and all you just wanted was some answers.
The pony still looking at you with her big green eyes as you looked down in the ground for the letter, she then walked up next to you and spoke.
"Look sugar cube, why don't we get back to my place and settle down for a bit, maybe get something to eat. Then once you've told the story about Discord, my friends and I can help you find your letter. How about that?" She said, as she already started to slowly walk down the thin gravel road.
As you heard her speaking about food, your stomach let out a rebellious growl. Since you didn't even know how long it had been since you had eaten something, you thought it would be best to go with her.
"Well, okay then..." You said, slowly walking up next to her.
There was a awkward silence as you walked down the road, with this pony. But there was something about her, something that made her less pony, you just couldn't figure out what since your head still was a bit dizzy after what Discord did to you.
Finally as you made your way up a small hill, a building came in sight, from what you could see it looked a lot like a barn. Now that you thought about it, the entire road was surrounded by apple tress, could this be an orchard?
"Well, home sweet home... Isn't it wonderful?" Applejack said, as both of you walked down towards the barn.
"It's beautiful but, do you live here?" You asked.
"But of course I do, i even thought my name would make it pretty obvious to you" Applejack chuckled a bit at your question.
After some time you both finally made it into what looked like a kitchen, with a very southern style to it. When you walked in the smell of apples immediately came to you, and it didn't really help your hunger that much. As the polite guest you were you found a seat near a small round table at he corner of the room, waiting for Applejack to speak up as she fiddled around with various kitchen tools.
"Now, how about I make us some apple pie?" The happy mare asked, even though she had already begun baking.
"It's a nice home you got here, do you live alone?" You asked to break the silence.
"Naah, I live here with my family. Got a little sis' and a big brother to take care of, plus old Granny Smith can't do that all alone. We help tending the orchard, always had." Applejack replied, still fully working with the pie.
"Hmm... Now I'm not a professional when it comes to orchards, but isn't it a lot of apples for just one family?"
"Oh they are not all for us, most of the apples goes to Ponyville. Once a week I go the the market and sell our apples to the town ponies, even though the payment is small there's still enough to keep me and my family fed" She said, as she placed the uncooked pie inside the oven.
"Now then, why don't you tell me your little story about Discord while the pie cooks?" Applejack said, taking a seat on the opposite chair of you.

After telling Applejack the entire story from start to end, and eaten the pie in the meantime, it was time for you to find that letter. And Applejack was more than happy to assist you, since her duties at the orchard was done for today. But since none of you even knew there to begin, Applejack figured that it would be best to go see one of her friends... Twilight Sparkle, as you recall, it was the same pony as Discord had told you to give the letter to.
As you walked the long road which would lead to Ponyville, you both started talking and learning about each other. You didn't know why, but something in that pony made you trust her, coming over the fact that she was a pony from a cartoon didn't bother you at all. To be honest, she felt more like a person to you, rather than a pony.
Finally after walking for what seemed like forever, your eyes saw the town in the distance, which you presumed was Ponyville. Walking though the town felt really weird, not only the fact that everyone in town was ponies, but that they stared at you with wide eyes. They weren't acting like Applejack had, all casual about your appearance.
"Well, here we are. This is Twilight's home... Nifty ehh?" Applejack said, while admiring the huge tree in the middle of the town.
"Wait, she lives in there... A tree?" You asked, wondering how one could live inside a tree
"Ohh, that ain't a tree sugar cube, well it is, but there's more to it than it looks... That right there, is the towns library. It was given to Twilight when she moved to Ponyville after the defeat of Nightmare Moon."
"Nightmare Moon?" You asked while gentle knocking on the front door.
"I'll tell you some other day" She just replied.
After another knock on the door, this time a little bit harder. Someone finally answered, but it wasn't a pony... It was a little purple scaled dragon like creature, with green spikes pointing out from its back and top of its head.
"Woah, Applejack? Who in Celestia is that?" The dragon asked while looking suspicious at you.
"Well howdy Spike, this is my friend that i meet on the road, said he needed Twilight's help. Any idea where she might be?" Applejack replied as she invited herself into the library, with you right behind her.
When you entered the tree, you would have no doubt that this was a library. There were literally books upon books everywhere. On the floor, on every furniture. Just, everywhere.
"Yeah, I know... The library is looking kinda messed up, anyway. Twilight went to Pinkie Pie's house for a few hours ago, sure if you wait her she'll be back within no time. " Spike said, letting out a quick yawn before going into the kitchen in the east corner of the tree.
"Well, looks like we'll have to wait for her then. So, whatca wanna do?" Applejack ask as she found a place on the floor to sit.
"Hmmm? Since I'm fairly new here, why don't you tell me a bit about it, I got this feeling that I'm going to stay in this world for a while." You replied the orange pony, while pulling out a stool from the corner.
"I think Twilight is the one you should go to if you wanna learn about pony history, but since she's not here... Mehh, why not." Applejack said, as she change into a more comfort position and started telling about this new world.

While Applejack and you were talking about each other, the door to the library finally opened and in walked a lavender colored pony... But see was not like Applejack, this pony had a horn and wings, something which Applejack lacked in. You reckon that it must be Twilight Sparkle, an alicorn princess and one of Applejack's friends.
"Oh, hi Applejack. What are you doing here, and who is this? She asked while giving you a soft smile.
You still couldn't believe that they didn't care that you were a human, but with all those weird creatures in Equestria that Applejack told you about, why would they? You thought to yourself.
"Well, howdy there Twilight, I was just telling my new friend here about some Equestrian history while we were waiting on ya. You see, he's not from our world, Discord sent him here with a important letter to Princess Celestia." Applejack started explaining
"Hmm... Odd, why would Discord sent him to give a letter to the princess, instead of just doing it himself?" Twilight spoke up as she walked around the room, levitating the books back to their original place on the shelf.
"The letter is not the main reason why I'm here, Discord offered me a new life in Equestria. Since my current life back on Earth was really terrible. I accepted his offer and was sent here, then I met Applejack. She told me that you could help me find my letter to this princess." You said, switching position since your legs had stared to fall asleep.
"Of course, I would be more than happy to help you but without knowing where the letter is and since we don't have any clues right now, I think it would be best if you just got settled here in Ponyville. There's not much left of the day to start searching for your letter." Twilight said, looking outside the window as the night slowly emerged.
You agreed with her as you let out a small yawn. I guess it couldn't hurt to wait a day or two to find the letter. You thought, and you then realized that you had nowhere to sleep, you hadn't really been thinking that through by the time you've been here.
"But where can i stay for the night, is there a motel somewhere in Ponyville?"
"Hehe... Don't worry, you can stay here until we find you a house. I have an extra bed lying somewhere."
"Well, think it's about time that I made my way back to the farm. See you two tomorrow! Applejack quickly shouted as she opened the library door and went home.
You went with Twilight up the stairs which led to what looked like a living room.
"Twilight, I can just sleep on your couch. You don't have to find a hole lot of things for me, the couch and a blanket would be more than great." You said politely
"Well, if you wish to sleep down here it's fine with me. I'll go upstairs to get a blanket and pillow for you." Twilight said, still with her soft voice.
***
Twilight had been so friendly to let you borrow her shower for the night before you went to bed, since you didn't know how long it had been since your last bath. After finishing up in the shower you dried yourself up and went back into the living room, where Twilight was sitting on the couch, reading one of her books. As she looked at you, standing there with nothing but your boxers on, she couldn't help but to blush a little bit at your well trained body, you noticed and just smiled it off.
"Well, time for me to go upstairs, blankets right here and please... Tell me if there's anything else you need." Twilight said as she slowly made her way towards the stairs.
"Nope, everything is perfect... Again, thanks for letting me stay. I'll promise not to be in the way." You replied, while getting comfortable on the couch.
"Well in that case, sweet dreams." Twilight said, still blushing a little bit as she turned off the lights and went upstairs.
As you were lying there on the couch, with the purple colored blanket warming you up. You thought about all that had happen today, about these ponies roaming this new world that you would have to call home. Did it bother you that they were ponies? Not really, and it didn't seem to bother them that you were a human. To be honest, they felt more human like rather than pony like... But getting used to this new life would take time, that, you were sure of.
Minutes past by as you were thinking about all this, until you finally drifted off into sleep and into the wonderful world of dreams. Dreaming about these ponies and this new world. Next Chapter: Getting Settled In Ponyville Estimated time remaining: 18 Minutes
