Chapter 1
“Hurry the buck up soldier!! They are coming down on us hard and fast!!!” my Captain shouted. We were in Hiza, a main defensive city in Operation No Mercy. This operation was in the middle of the desert so in my opinion, I found it relatively hard to see, due to sandstorms and other desert weather conditions.
“Sir, the Sergeant is in ready position sir!!” I told my Captain. Looking through my scope, I could see quite a few Geomanians rushing towards our position.
“Hold your fire until you can see the whites of their eyes!!” I heard my Captain say. Of course in the desert, there was a dust storm right in the battleground. I turned my ATSE(All Terrain Sights Enhancement) on and synced it to my LRAR42(Long Range Assault Rifle 42) to get a better look at what was coming towards us. I waited for about ten seconds after my Captain told me to fire when I saw their eyes, then an explosion went off, sending me against the wall. I retook my position and noticed they had gained a lot of ground on us, so I started firing. This set off a chain reaction in all three of our squads. They all started firing, killing Geos (short for Geomanians) left and right. When the Geos got to a halt and started firing, that’s when things started to crumble.
Another explosion went off on the floor underneath me, and I fell through. I looked around for a second or two and saw remains of the floor above all around me. Whatever caused the explosion, it made the whole upper floor crumble like a cookie. After I got up, I took a look at what was causing these explosions, it was a tank. I saw its 130mm gun pointed straight at us.
“Sir! The Captains down!” I heard a private say.
“Get a medic and I’ll take your position”, but before I finished my sentence, his head exploded.
“Dangit!!!, Private Plyers!” I called the private.
“Sir?” he asked.
“Get down first!!” I shouted. “We are in a pretty bad firefight right now and we are outnumbered!! Now when you hear a pause in firing, I want you to rush to the captain!! I’ll cover you!!” I shouted.
He said, “Yes sir!!”
I heard bullets ringing and bouncing of the walls in our little defensive house, and when it stopped, I saw the Private run to our Captains aid. That’s when I fired at the Geos, killing at least ten.
“Private Plyers!! Have you got him?!!” I yelled.
“Sir, yes Sir!!!” he yelled back.
“Alright, we need to fall back into town to get a better defense!! Fall Back!!!” I yelled, ordering all three squads to fall back. I made sure to keep them safe by giving them covering fire. When I was sure that they were all out, I saw one more soldier.
“Sir!! Go on without me!!” he yelled. “No, a good pony never leaves another behind!” I yelled at him. I galloped towards his body and put him on my back, and galloped out of the house. I felt a sharp pain in my flank as I was galloping out, assuming it was a bullet. I ran into a new house where I found one of the three squads and the Captain.
“Where are the other two squads?” I asked.
“Sir, they took cover throughout the whole house, sir,” a private told me. I set the Injured private down on a bed and galloped up the stairs. Upstairs I found the other two squads.
“Ok, listen up ponies. We got a tank and quite a few infantry heading into the town. Reinforcements will arrive in approximately ten minutes. Now those guys out there are legitimate soldiers, meaning that they aren’t the ones we fought in Bucksbourgh. Those were the local militia, but these guys are trained and know how to use their weapons. So what we are going to do is take the snipers and put them on the roof while the rifle ponies and engineer ponies stick to the walls. Melee them when they get inside. You ghosts are going to use your G blades to melee them without them knowing what hit ‘em.”
After I explained the plan to every pony else, I took my position right by the entrance. I crouched low so if a geo actually blind fired beside the door, I wouldn’t get hit. I saw a geo walk through the door. I galloped up and buck kicked him as hard as I could. He was dead, I saw blood running down the floor and I scooted him out of the way. I issued an order to the snipers via ATCS(All Terrain Communicative System) to start picking off the geos. I saw a geo fall to the ground (which alerted other geos), and I grabbed my LRAR42. I saw another geo fall to the ground but not by bullet, I saw a huge gash in his hide. I knew what it was and issued a new order to the ghosts.
“Keep taking them out ponies, your getting them good.” I ordered.
I saw a juggernaut geo step into the house, and I buck kicked him as well, but to my disadvantage, his armor was too heavy for that kind of attack. So I galloped with my LRAR42 out of his way and into the staircase. He had a shotgun with a flamethrower attached, how wonderful. He took his shot with the shotgun and did his damaged with the flamethrower as well.
“Yu Tampre’ vie!!!”(Your too weak for me!!!) he shouted.
“Yu wien ot yu lashdi”(Your out of your league) I yelled back.
I took my shot through his visor, killing him instantly. Unfortunately another geo came in, holding an Avren (Geomanian for avenger). It was a rapid fire sniper rifle that could be used as a machine gun and its original purpose. He shot my hoof and I cried “Hugh!!” I took another shot using a three round burst on my LRAR42. All three shots hit his chest, he dropped onto one hoof. I galloped towards him with a G knife and shoved it through his mouth (which was closed) and pulled it upward, slicing his head nearly in half. I limped as fast as I could towards the staircase again. And tried to limp up the stairs. I saw a geo coming at me up the staircase from behind and then his head exploded, sending chunks of brain, blood and skull onto the wall.
I looked up and saw my Captain alive and well, “Sir thank you sir” I told him.
“Now’s not the time tah’ be thankin’ no pony,” he said (he gets his western accent when he’s calm.)
“Sir, sorry, sir,” I apologized.
“Don’t yah sir me soldier! We got work to do!” he yelled.
“Sir, sorry, sir” I apologized again. He glared at me and helped me upstairs.
“Private Brayden, Private Holtskey! Follow me!” he ordered the two privates.
“Sir, yes, sir,” they said in unison. I heard a lot of gunfire. About five minutes passed then I saw the tank come rolling in. I had a sick feeling in my stomach, but then I had second thoughts when I saw the captain rush the tank’s gunner and G knife him, making him fall back into the tank. Then he threw a grenade down the tank’s hatch. He jumped off and galloped away, then a loud explosion went off, and I saw the tank burst to flames. It pleased me when I heard the geos screams coming from inside the tank.
A medic pony came up to my aid and tended to my wounds. He wrapped me up and told me the reinforcements were here, but he had bad news as well as good. A force of geos would be coming on the town with artillery.
“Well well well, look who’s up and atop!” I heard my friend Morning Star say.
My face brightened when I saw him along with his platoon of Privates. “well you know us Equestrians, we always heal quickly!” I told him and chuckled a bit.
“Sergeant Autumn!!! Report!!!” my Captain called.
“I hope you stay alive this time Morning” I told morning star, as I ran to my Captain’s service.
“Sir reporting for your commands sir” I told my captain.
“The geos are gearing up for another assault, we predict they have a base or camp near by, so when night falls, you will be assembling with Captain Proto and the Equestrian Ghosts” he explained.
“In the mean time, you should probably prepare your squad for the geo’s assault” he told me.
“Sir yes sir!” I shouted.
I trotted back to my squad and told them where I would be going, most of them sighed due to me being superior to most of the other Sergeants by being relatively cool and somewhat kind to them. Id be nicer if it hadn’t been for war and death. I told my men to get ready when Morning Star got to me, “Autumn, what do you think the geos are going to do?” he asked.
“they might come on us at full strength or come by waves, they’d be better off by coming at full strength. Then again we have our tanks waiting outside of Giza, we could call them in when things start to get rough” I explained.
“Cant forget about the arty they have Autumn, I hear their shells can pierce out tank armor if it hits directly, not to mention the shrapnel that could be produced when it hits the ground” he exclaimed.
“Heh, no kidding. Well if we can hold out until nightfall, they wont have any base to fall back to” I told him.
“Well ive got to get my ponies together, ill see you later bro” Morning said.
“Ok man me too” we brohoofed and prepared for they geos assault.
By the late afternoon, I saw a few geo infantry heading our way. “Here they come!!!!” I yelled.
I heard the whole division mobilize, and took my ATSE and zoomed in on the geos. They were charging and charging fast. “Snipers ready your positions!!!” I ordered.
“pick ‘em off when you have a good shot!!” I ordered again.
I heard sniper fire and saw the geos fall into the sand like rocks falling down to the ground. I grabbed my LRAR42 and aimed for headshots, I got at least 23. After a few more kills I started hearing something odd, it sounded like a teapot steaming, Then an explosion. I looked up and saw a Ranger get tossed into the air and land like a rag doll pony. His body was lifeless and I could see a hoof and leg missing, probably incinerated by the explosion. “Awww buck no, you mother buckers aren’t getting away with that!!” I yelled.
I took a look at the geos and shot as many as I could see. However our position was at the front of the city, “this is a bad position to be in, a geo could easily trot through the door“ I thought to myself.
As I was processing this through my head a loud bang and gunfire came from downstairs. I heard a scream and another gunshot. I turned and saw two geos coming up stairs, I grabbed my rifle and rolled into cover. Once one got in my sights, he was gone. His head was all over the wall and I saw his companion take cover to where I couldn’t see him. He poked his head out and started blind firing. I kept my head low and waited for him to stop. When he did, I rolled out of my cover to spray him with three round bursts. He looked at me with an odd expression, like he was falling or something similar like that. When he fell, he fell backwards, falling down the stairs in which he came from. I turned back to my post as I heard a “thud, thud, thud, thud, thud, thud-thud” and reloaded. Paying no attention to the lifeless bodies of the two geos, I trotted down stairs. Down stairs I saw another dead ranger, he took a body shot and a head shot. I took his gun and ammo, and prayed for him. I prayed to Celestia that he’d be all right. After I was finished, I trotted back up stairs still seeing geomanians rushing us. I found it funny that such light armored ponies would be charging at us. “Oh well” I thought, and took back my position.
As nightfell, I prepared to assemble with Captain Proto and the ghosts. As I was preparing however, I heard my Captain bragging about how good of a soldier I was, this pleased me and I finished up my ghost armor. I grabbed my rifle and the combat shotgun I stripped from the dead Ranger Pony I saw and prayed for down stairs, and trotted down that way. As I trotted down stairs, I began to wonder what invisibility was like. I wondered what it was like to step right in front of some pony and they didn’t even know you were there. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, the dead Ranger Pony interrupted my thoughts. I felt bad for not being there for him, so I thought the least thing I could do was to take him to the medics. I put him on my back and walked out the door. “Sergeant Autumn!! You had better be ready or I’m sticking my hoof up your flank!!” my Captain yelled.
“Sir the Sergeant is ready sir!” I yelled back.
“Nicely done soldier” he said.
“He’s one of the best Cpt. Proto, ready to kill when you order him to”.
I saluted to Cpt. Proto until he put his hoof down. “Well Sergeant Autumn, its nice to see some pony who actually cares about the dead” he said. “Sir the Sergeant should’ve been there for him so he thought the least he could do was to take him to the medics sir” I said to Cpt. Proto.
He gave me a smile and had me on my way to the medics.
At the medics, I told them to be sure that he would get a proper burial and prayers. “How do you know something’s going to be done when you cant even see it?” I wondered to myself. “guess that’s where loyalty comes in” I thought again.
On my way back, I put on my ghost helmet and fell in with Cpt. Proto and the Ghosts. We began to gallop, which I agreed to since I knew that this wasn’t going to be a long mission. “Pegasus, start reconnaissance of their area. “ Cpt. Proto said.
As soon as I heard “Pegasus” I knew what was going on. “Heh, I see what you did there Cpt. Proto” I thought to myself.
I looked up and saw the Pegasus ghosts start to fly faster. I did the same and tried to fit in with the ghosts as much as I could. We were all very fast flyers, so by the time we got to the Geomanian camp, I thought we were going to wait for the other ghosts. But this wasn’t Cpt. Proto’s plan, his plan was for the Pegasus to take out the guards and for the unicorn and earth ghosts to set the charges and to take out the rest. “Take out the guards Pegasus, do it quietly though” the Cpt. Said.
“Roger that Cap’n” I heard a Pegasus say.
He had a western accent so I asked him “Appleloosa?”.
“Heh, Ayeyup” he replied.
The reason I asked was because Morning Star was born there. Morning Star was my best friend ever since I signed up for Equestria’s military. “Alraght guys, we gat sm’e work tah dehoo” the Appleloosan ghost said.
“Move quickleh and quiteleh” he told us.
Based on him giving the orders, I presumed that he was a sergeant like me, so I asked him. “Sergeant?” I asked.
“Ah reckon yah know all ‘bout me eh?” he asked.
“Heh, nope Sergeant” I replied.
Of course I had no idea where this Pegasus was, I could only hear him. So I decided that this wasn’t the best place to chat, and started my mission. I crept up to a geo and stabbed him but and silenced him with my hoof. My next target was another regular Geo. He was simply dead once I used my G Blade to slice through his brain. He staggered a bit then fell over. I saw my next target on a tower. I used my G Blades to climb the tower and get into his position. Once I got to the top however, I saw he had a strange infared camera on his helmet. He charged at me and I just simply jumped over him, landing on my hoove’s knees. He turned around and looked down at me with fear in his eyes. I wanted my blades to give him a literal uppercut. My blades however, thought other wise and decided to go straight through his head, sending blood everywhere. Once this happened I looked to see if any guards were at the bottom of the tower.
There were plenty, “holy mother of buck” I thought to myself.
I jumped off the tower and landed on a geo guard, killing him with my blade stuck in his spine. The other just looked forward, not looking at me. Then I could see he was dead, he fell over in a pool of blood and I saw a Pegasus ghost looking straight at me. “Yer welcum’ Sergeant” he said.
I couldn’t see his expression under his visor but I could see a little emblem on it. “Whats that?” I asked.
“Its mah cutie mark” he told me.
“it’s a grey cloud with lightning’ shootin’ fum it” he told me.
“Mah names Sergeant Thunderstorm, and you arhh?” he asked.
“I’m Sergeant Autumn” I replied.
“Nahce tah meet yah Awtm’ but we have work to do” he said.
I agreed and went back to work killing geos while Thunderstorm went and set charges and other explosives on walls. After I was done, I saw the other ghosts gallop in. “Oh thank Luna for this blessing” I thought to myself. Then the Captain Paused, looking at Thunderstorm with a confused expression.
“Uhhmmm Sergeant Thunderstorm?” I heard Cpt. Proto say.
“Yes Cap’n?” I heard Thunderstorm ask.
“Where are the batteries?” he asked.
“Oh shi-!!” “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM” I heard the Captain say before and enormous explosion went off.
The next thing I knew I was looking up at the partially covered night sky.
“Those sons of switches blew us up!!” I said.
I got to my hooves and started to wince.
“Oh Luna, my wing!! It broken, I cant move it!!” I said aloud.
But I saw no pony to tell this to, there was just an eerily silent wind blowing through my broken visor. I had no fast way of getting back to Hiza, so I decided to wrap my wing up and stay off it for a few days.
“Doctor’s orders,” I thought to myself and found a very small piece of happiness when I thought of that. I began to trot, then I heard Thunderstorm call out for me.
“Aut’mn!! Aghkk, am stuck!” he yelled.
I turned around almost instantly and galloped over to Thunderstorm. The lower half of his body was stuck under some debris.
“Ow,” was all I could say when I saw this.
I dug and dug until his body was completely uncovered of debris.
“There ya go Thunderstorm!” I said aloud.
“Ah hope ye know where wur’ headin’ Aut’mn,” he said with a dazed expression.
“You just close your eyes Thunderstorm, I’ll carry you until I find a good stopping place,”
Thunderstorm just sighed and slumped over on his side a bit. I nudged him with my hoof to see if he was still awake, he of course, wasn’t. I wedged my head under his belly and pulled him up, sliding him onto my back.
“Jeez, Thunderstorm, light as a piece of paper” I told my already asleep friend.
As I started to trot back towards Hiza, I saw something out of the corner of my eye. It seemed like an Alicorn, then I could see it’s eyes. Glowing like a lantern.
“Princess Luna?” I called out.
No answer. I called again, only to see that it had turned into an orb and flew into the sky.
“The hay? THE BUCK WAS THAT?!” I asked myself.
At this point, I was really mad and relatively worried about whatever that thing was that was stalking us. I kept trotting, looking around the dunes and rocks to see if there were anymore of these “Alicorns”. Eventually I stopped looking, but then I saw something that I didn’t want to see, the same debris that I dug Thunderstorm out of.
“Luna please toss me into a pit of hellfire” I mumbled to myself.
Then I saw something that made me even more paranoid, some scorpion Geos. These were elite Geos that could pop out of the ground like a diamond dog, then pull you into their tunnels and most likely kill you. They were also used to stalk or recon ponies. I threw off my helmet with one hoof and prepared my G Blade. It was completely useless, so I switched to my G Knife. It too was no longer a use.
“Dang, don’t you all just come on me at once” I said aloud.
I set Thunderstorm down and took a fighting stance. I saw a tunnel come towards me and what do you know, a completely armored and armed Scorpion geo. Such a wonderful surprise wasn’t it? I mean surely he was going all out on me even in my wounded and exhausted state. WHAM!! He gave me a blow to the mussel with his hoof, shattering it. He was wearing a mask that seemed relatively hard. I threw a punch that staggered him, but didn’t really hurt him. THIS HURT, A LOT. His mask seemed like it was made out of metal or some very hard piece of plastic.
“I really envy your mask” I told him.
I galloped over to Thunderstorm and he followed, with a combat knife.
“You suck!!” I told him, again.
I got to Thunderstorm and pulled out his pistol, and pulled the trigger on the Geo. It went through his mask and killed him, instantly. After this, I decided that it would be best that I go to sleep for the night: For the next day would be a long and hot one.
