Chapter 2: Questions
Location: Equestria, Ponyville, Ponyville Square
Time: One hour post Arrival
Taking Harbinger down from the pedestal proved more troublesome than it was worth. Using the rational method of trying to take down the magical barriers proved fruitless, so after one hour of struggle, everyone just resorted to blowing up the pedestal and much to Twilight's disappointment, this method actually worked. Princess Celestia returned to Canterlot leaving the Elements with the new guest. Now the 5 ponies and Reaper are heading towards the library.
Applejack: So, Ha'binger, no offense but, what actually are ya?
Harbinger: I am part of a race of sentient machines that inhabit the Dark Space. We have no name, but organics tend to refer to us as Reapers. You may do the same.
Rainbow Dash: Uhh…where exactly is this, Dark Space? Is it somewhere outside of Equestria?
Twilight: The Dark Space is the name for the space between galaxies. Where do you live there? Do you have a planet? There are so many things we could learn from eachother.
The opportunity to share knowledge with an alien species is a dream come true for Twilight. All the ponies roll their eyes and smile at the giddy unicorn. The group now finally arrives at the library, a hollowed out tree with various windows and balconies sticking out. Twilight approaches the door and uses a key to open it.
Twilight: SPIKE! Are you home, we have a visitor.
Spike: Yeah, I'm almost done sorting the books, be down in a minute.
After a few seconds from the second floor descended a small purple dragon with green spikes and a grayish-green underbelly. Spike looked at Twilight, then at Rarity, subsequently swooning over her, then at Harbinger. The two just stood there staring at eachother. That day, Spike's screams could be heard all the way from Canterlot.
Location: Equestria, Canterlot, Throne Room
Time: One hour post Arrival
Luna: You did WHAT?
Celestia: As I said before, I allowed the Harbinger to live in Ponyville.
The moon princess looked disappointed. Celestia's ears drooped.
Luna: Tia I'm not one to question your judgement, but this is a matter of national security. What if he's pretending to be good just to make finishing his job easier.
Princess Celestia was now getting worried and started to doubt her decision. 'What if Luna is right', 'What if I just brought an imminent disaster upon my people'. Those were some of the few scenarios going through the white alicorn's head. But before she could think of refusing the offer a third voice joined the conversation. Shepard's hologram blinked into existence.
Shepard: I understand your doubts Princess but I assure you there is nothing to fear.
Luna took a stance and fired at the hologram but the attack just fazed through only distorting it a bit before the image returned to normal. To say Luna wasn't shocked would be quite an understatement.
Luna: Who are you?
Shepard: My name is Shepard, I believe we haven't met.
Luna looked towards her sister for approval of the new arrival. Celestia just nodded so Luna relaxed a bit.
Luna: Greetings Shepard, I am Princess Luna, co-ruler of Equestria and raiser of the Moon, what brings you here?
Shepard: I figured things wouldn't be this easy if there are two rulers in this land. *smiles*So, I decided to drop in and say 'hi'.
Luna smiled back at the human, sensing no danger in him she allowed herself to fully relax.
Shepard: As I already spoke to your sister, I request that you allow Harbinger to stay here in Equestria to make some friends.
Celestia: I know I already agreed, but we can't ignore the fact that he abducted millions of ponies and could potentially do so again. If you can guarantee that he will not be a problem, Harbinger will receive approval from both of us.
The Commander took a moment to think of a good excuse. Upon finding one he turned back to the Princesses.
Shepard: I know what Harbinger did years ago was horrible for your kind, but he himself told me that what he did failed and he has no interest in harvesting your civilization.
The princesses were confused at the statement.
Celestia: Shepard, what exactly do you mean by that?
Luna: He was harvesting us, for what?
Shepard: To build a Reaper with pony DNA, apparently he saw a massive potential in your abilities, yet this in the end proved to be a failure. The DNA was incompatible so he discontinued the project.
Celestia: Um…Shepard, may I ask. What happened to the ponies that were not used in the experiment.
The human just looked at the princess with a stern expression.
Shepard: Do you really want to know?
Luna: No.
Celestia and Luna looked like they were about to refuse. Shepard just pinched the bridge of his nose
Shepard: Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, I know this sounds less appealing now, but please, give him a chance, I promise if he does something to even one pony I'll have a serious talk with him.
The sun and moon alicorns exchanged a few glances and some words before turning to Shepard.
Celestia: Very well Shepard, we accept the terms of this arrangement.
Luna: Harbinger is free to live in Equestria for as long as necessary.
Celestia: Yet, if he causes another disaster, he will be banished for eternity from our country.
'Like that's gonna stop him' muttered Shepard to himself.
Shepard: Then we have a deal, I guess?
Celestia: Correct. But I must ask, why are you so insistent on him coming here?
The commander just looked away with a sad face.
Shepard: Let's just say, he needs some time to relax, especially after his best friend died.
The princesses were suddenly saddened by the news.
Luna: We're sorry Shepard, we didn't know.
Shepard: No need to apologize. Thank you princesses, for understanding. Goodbye.
Luna: Farewell Shepard.
Celestia: Goodbye Shepard.
The human-reaper's hologram blinked out of existence leaving the two alicorns alone in the room.
Luna: By the way, did you hear someone screaming just now?
Celestia: No.
Location: Equestria, Ponyville, Ponyville Library
Time: One hour and ten minutes post Arrival
After introducing Harbinger to Spike, who after shaking off his initial reaction with a little coaxing from Twilight and Rarity, started to look at Harbinger with a 'so cool, aliens' expression.
Harbinger: You sure change opinions quickly, dragon.
Spike: It's Spike, and we don't get many aliens around here afterall.
Everyone was sitting in the living room enjoying some tea. Spike came up to Harbinger offering some tea, which the Reaper surprisingly accepted and took it in his hooves. Everyone was puzzled at how he would drink tea without a mouth, yet their questions were answered in a quite creepy manner, when Harbinger opened his mouth revealing rows of sharp serrated teeth and took a sip of the drink. Let's say it wasn't a pretty sight.
Twilight then came up to the Reaper with a notebook and quill casting him a toothy grin.
Rainbow Dash: Here we go.
Everyone chuckled at that. Harbinger stood there staring. Twilight made cute puppy eyes, yet Harbinger was still staring. Twilight used a last resort and made a sad pouty face. A fly flew up to the reaper, burning in the flames emanating from the cracks on the body. Harbinger was staring some more. The unicorn just looked down sadly and started to walk away.
Fluttershy: Um…I think Twilight just wants you…to…answer some questions.
Harbinger turned around looking towards Fluttershy, who squeaked and hid behind her mane.
Harbinger: And I was wondering why she was making those strange facial expressions. If it is about questions, then very well, you may proceed.
Twilight's mood suddenly brightened up and she pulled out her notebook and quill again using magic.
Twilight: Okay, you said you live in the Dark Space, but where exactly, is there a planet somewhere or did you build some structure to live on?
Harbinger: We simply float in the Dark Space, waiting.
Fluttershy: But where do your families and children live?
The Reaper sounded surprised at the question.
Harbinger: Families are a social phenomenon characteristic to organics, we do not have these 'families' amongst our members.
Rainbow Dash: But how do you make kids then?
[This bit of information is redacted and will be included as a separate chapter]
Harbinger: Let us not delve into that territory.
Twilight: Okay, I have one more question…
The lavender unicorn's "one more question" led to sixty more questions and by the time the questioning ended everyone except Harbinger and Twilight, everyone went home to do whatever work they had to do. Spike who decided to escort Rarity home, came through the door and noticed Twilight still 'torturing' Harbinger.
Spike: C'mon Twilight, I think you asked enough questions already. Maybe you can give our guest some time to rest.
The unicorn suddenly realizing how much she actually got carried away, suddenly blushed and looked sheepish.
Twilight: Ehehehe, um…sorry, I think I got carried away. *turns towards Harbinger* If you don't mind we can continue this another time maybe? *smiles hopefully*
Harbinger: Very well, I do not see any problems with that. But next time, I suggest you limit the questions to the most essential. Unlike me, most organics tend to get bored after a lot of questions.
Twilight crossed her hooves and huffed in indignation, but chuckled afterwards.
Twilight: I'll try, but I don't make any promises , everypony time for bed. *suddenly realizing* Harbinger, do you have a play to stay at?
Harbinger: No. Does it matter?
Twilight was surprised at the response.
Twilight: Yes, it does. I can't just let a guest stay outside, because they don't have a place to live in.
Harbinger: I have no qualms with sleeping outside. What this body feels does not matter to me, so shelter is optional.
Twilight: You can stay with me for the time being. Tomorrow we can start getting you on the right track.
Harbinger did not protest. So with that the unicorn just flicked the light off and went to her room to take some sleep. The Reaper just stood on the couch, the light in the cracks giving a warm yellow glow.
Harbinger:*sigh* This is going to be worse than I imagined. –Releasing control—
With that said the lights on the insect-pony body disappeared into nothingness leaving the room dark.

Codex: Harbinger
Harbinger is the name of the member of a race of sentient warships know as Reapers. He is the largest and oldest member of the race and up until the battle upon Earth, he was the leader of the entire armada. The said position is currently held by Commander John Shepard, a former human and arch-nemesis of the Reaper Leader. Harbinger once took control of a race of insectoid creatures known as Collectors, who attempted to create a Human-Reaper, but was stopped by the current Leader, who was still human at time. More recent attempts at building another Reaper, were made five-thousand years prior to the current timeline, when Harbinger invaded Equestria and abducted over 12 million ponies, leaving the country heavily depopulated. Despite the effort the ponies proved incompatible with Reaper technology and the creation of a Pony-Reaper, failed. The remaining ponies were simply eradicated.
Author's Note: Ok, so things are progressing slowly for now. Next chapter will be about the Redacted Question in this chapter. And the one after that will include the return of a certain pink pony. Hope you like the story, because it's fun to write. So, cutting that short I leave to writ- Assuming Direct Control.
