Author's Note: This is a non-profit fanfiction made for the sole purpose of doing something fun about one of my favorite characters in the Mass Effect series. Harbinger and Shepard belong to BioWare and My Little Pony belongs to Hasbro. Enjoy.

Chapter 1: Arrival

Location:[Planet Unknown], Equestria, Ponyville, Ponyville Square

Time: Mid-Day

The normally idyllic life of Ponyville was interrupted by a large explosion in the center of the town. Two figures, a purple unicorn and a cyan Pegasus were galloping towards the site to see what happened. The cyan Pegasus with rainbow mane turned towards her friend casting a worried expression.

Rainbow Dash: I don't like this Twilight. That explosion looked bad.

The unicorn who was equally worried looked back with a similar expression.

Twilight: I don't like it either, but what if there are injured ponies. We have to help them.

The running duo was joined by two other ponies. A white unicorn with a styled purple mane and tail, and a Cutie Mark of three diamonds on her flank. The other pony was a normal pony, with an orange coat, blond mane and tail tied in a pony-tail (pun intended), a Stetson hat and a Cutie Mark of three apples.

Rainbow Dash: Applejack, Rarity what are you doing here?

Rarity: We heard the explosion and came here to see if anypony is injured.

The unicorn talked with a british accent and a sophisticated aura to it.

Applejack: Who eva' is responsible fer this is gonna' pay big time. That darn varmint jus' ruined mah stall with his fancy explojinz.

The orange pony spoke with an Western accent. The group of four ponies finally arrived at their destination, each wearing am expression of varying shock. There were many injured in the explosion, thankfully the injuries were not very bad. A yellow Pegasus with a pink mane and a Cutie Mark of three butterflies was flying between injured ponies, bandaging them as best as she could.

Twilight: Fluttershy thank Celestia you're here. Are you ok? Were you injured?

The Pegasus turned her head at the familiar voices.

Fluttershy: Oh…hi girls. Um…I'm fine…I wasn't here when the…explosion happened. Are…are girls you ok?

Rarity: We're fine deary, but I don't understand, who would do such a thing in our lovely little town.

Applejack: Maybe that ther' crowd could answer yer questions.

Everyone's attention was moved towards a crowd standing around the epicenter of the explosion. The group moved closer, squeezing through the gathered ponies to take a look at what got everypony's attention. What they found was something the had not expected in the least.

Location: Equestria, Canterlot, Throne Room

Time: 15 minutes earlier

Princess Celestia was pacing the room while her sister Luna was sitting on a chair watching her.

Luna: Tia, I'm scared. What was in that room?

Celestia: I don't know sister, mother and father told us to never let the 'Monster' within that room free, but they never said what it really was. Our best hope is that we can stop it before it does something bad.

A couple of knocks are heard at the door and another armored stallion (#3533) entered the room.

#3533: Princess we have received an urgent message from Ponyville. It seems an explosion similar to this one happened there at the exact same time as the one in the Chamber.

Celestia: How many injured?

#3533: Around thirty-two ponies were injured, luckily no casualties.

Celestia: This is to strange to be a coincidence. Those two explosions must be related. Luna, stay here and watch the castle. #3533 ready a chariot, I'm heading to Ponyville.

Luna and #3533 both saluted and the later ran out of the room.

Celestia: *to herself* This is too suspicious.

Location: Equestria, Ponyville, Ponyville Square

Time: Mid-Day

The eyes of all ponies were glued to a sight none have ever seen before. In the epicenter of the explosion stood a platform engraved with various runes and magic words. The platform was covered by a blue shield that hummed with energy. Connected to a pedestal in the center were four chains that ended in spikes running through the most peculiar being anypony has ever seen. A large pony with sickly brown chitinous hide, insect like wings and four blank eyes. Twilight and Rainbow Dash were both trembling in fear and disbelief.

Rainbow Dash: But, but… it was just a story, a legend.

Applejack cast a worried glance towards the rainbow pegasus.

Applejack: What are ya talkin' about, sugarcube?

Twilight: A legend about a creature that came to Equestria nearly five-thousand years ago and started killing many ponies. They say that by the time it left, millions of ponies disappeared without trace and hundreds of thousands died.

The crowd gasped in shock, while Rarity placed a hoof on her forehead and fainted dramatically.

Fluttershy: And…and…y-y-you're saying that … that's the creature. *points to pedestal*

Twilight: No, I'm not saying it's it.

Everyone sans Rarity who was still out cold sighed in relief.

Twilight: But it matches the description perfectly.

This was too much for Fluttershy, so she simply fainted as well. Rarity now finally awoke and looked towards the pedestal scrunching her face in mild disgust.

Rarity: What kind of unequstrian process could create such a horrid…thing?

Twilight: Actually, the book calls it…

Celestia: The Harbinger.

Twilight nearly had a heart attack upon hearing the familiar voice. Everypony looked to where it was coming from and suddenly bower their heads in respect. Down the street was Princess Celestia herself walking towards the pedestal. The Princess stopped in front of her student, her serious face softening.

Celestia: Twilight Sparkle, my faithful student, I wish we could have met under better circumstances.

Twilight immediately looked more worried at her mentor's words.

Twilight: W-what do you mean princess? Is it really th-that bad?

Celestia: I don't know Twilight. I know about this as much as you do and I also know that this creature *looks at the body* must be currently locked down in the Canterlot underground.

Murmurs and various conversations started traveling through the crowd. Everypony started to look worried. The crowd was starting to panic. Celestia quickly took action and tried to calm the crowd.

Celestia: Calm down my little ponies, there is no need to panic. Whatever this monster is or whatever it has done, it cannot do it anymore. It has been subdued many years ago by the greatest mages of Equestria. So now there is nothing to fear, it can do us no harm.

The Princess' words immediately calmed the ponies down. Everyone was starting to relax knowing that their princess would protect them. The five elements bearers present all smiled at eachother in relief. But this relief was cut short when a voice never heard before resonated in the air.

The Voice: Quite an inspirational speech you have made Princess Celestia, yet, you are quite mistaken in your logic.

The voice sounded male, yet it was near emotionless and sounded like someone was talking into a small metallic pipe. Only one word could describe it – terrifying. And the fact that it resonated in everypony's ears wasn't helping at all. The present elements bearers and Princess Celestia took a fighting stance looking around for the source of the voice.

Celestia: Who are you? Show yourself!

The Voice: I believe we have never met, yet we heard so much about one another. Allow me to introduce myself.

To everyone's shock the body that stood dormant on the pedestal now started to thrash and glow. The body flew up slightly in the air. Glowing cracks were appearing on the skin and the eyes also started glowing. It all ended with a small flaming explosion. Everypony had to cover their eyes to protect themselves from the light. But now it all ended and they could all see what happened. Standing on the pedestal was the same insect-pony yet now it matched the book's description, having glowing eyes, a cracked skin with light emanating from the cracks and small tongues of fire at various points.

The Voice: I, am Harbinger. It is a pleasure to finally meet you Princess.

Much to everyone's surprise, Harbinger bowed his head in respect (trying to get a good first impression as Shepard would say). The tense atmosphere started to loosen, yet the Princess and the Elements didn't drop their stance. Princess Celestia lowered her horn charging it with energy, yet asked first.

Celestia: Why are you here? What do you want?

This time another voice joined the conversation. A hologram blinked into life showing another strange creature that walked on two legs. The other legs were hanging from the shoulders ending in five digits just like Equestrian dragons. The creature had no fur except for a shaved mane on top. Who's that creature?

Dat Creature: Good day Princess Celestia, I think you've already met Harbinger. Allow me to introduce myself. They call me Shepard. I am a human and I'm here to make a… request.

The Princess suddenly relaxed and stopped the magic on her horn. Yet, everyone else around were astounded.

The Crowd: A HUMAN?

For the ponies who thought humans existed only in fairy tales, the appearance of one was a shocker. Yet for a certain aquamarine unicorn with a harp cutie mark, it was a field day.

Lyra: Aha! See Bon Bon, I told you humans were real! But you said NOOOOOO- they're just some dumb old story characters!

Harbinger:*whispering to Shepard*At least she got the part about dumb humans right.

Shepard only glared at this.

Princess Celestia convinced the Elements to stand down and decided to take the diplomatic route and try to avoid an incident. The sun alicorn took a few deep breaths to calm down and then smiled at Shepard.

Celestia: Greeting Mister Shepard and welcome to Equestria, as you may already know I am Princess Celestia co-ruler of this land with my sister Princess Luna. We hope you will find your stay here pleasant.

Shepard: Actually I'm here not to stay, just to discuss a few things about my XO here *points to Harbinger*. You see, Harbinger lost a game of poker and now has to move here for some time to live among ponies and learn about friendship.

The request got everyone unnerved . The prospect of having an alien live in Equestria for the first time was enticing. But the fact that the said alien nearly destroyed the pony population millennia ago was quite unappealing. Shepard sensing that this is not playing too smoothly used his secret weapon – his charms.

Shepard: I understand you're very reluctant to accept someone like Harbinger among your subjects, but believe me he's a lot better if you get to know him better. (+15 Paragon Points)

The human was surprisingly persuasive and Princess Celestia just couldn't refuse. So with a smile she agreed.

Celestia: Very well Shepard, I find it hard to say no to you, so we accept you offer*turns to Harbinger* Harbinger we officially welcome you to Equestria.

The ponies had mixed reactions, some (like a certain lavender unicorn) were thrilled about the idea of working with an alien species. Others protested saying that such a creature has no place in Equestria, while others were neutral with their opinions. In the end it was the Princess' decision. Shepard's hologram blinked out of existence.

That day was the beginning of a nightmare for our little insect friend.

Harbinger: Can someone please get me down from here…

Codex: Pony Variants

There are 3 main types of ponies in Equestria: earth ponies, unicorns and pegasi.

Earth Ponies - are ponies that possess the least difference in physical aspect compared to normal ponies. Out of the three types of ponies Earth Ponies are the most strongest of the three. Earth Ponies cannot use magic actively like unicorns or fly like pegasi, yet they possess a passive form of magic that allows them to be the only type of ponies to be able to grow crops, as such they are the main suppliers of food in Equestria.

Unicorns – are ponies distinct by a horn located on the forehead that helps them channel their magical energy and actively use it for either combat or simple daily activities. Before the two Princesses took over and started raising and lowering the sun and moon, it was the unicorns that did so. Without the sun the crops would wilt and without the moon they would burn. Unicorns cannot grow crops compared to earth ponies or fly like pegasi, yet their use of magic is still invaluable.

Pegasi – are ponies capable of flight due to wings located on their backs. Pegasi are the fastest in air and the most agile. Despite their aerial superiority they cannot use magic like unicorns and neither are they strong as earth ponies, but they also possess a passive form of magic that allows them to walk on clouds. This allows the pegasi to manipulate weather that is much necessary for the crops.

Author's Note: The fun has just begun. I'm intending to write the story in multiple one-shots format. Most chapters will not be related to one another, they'll just be slices from Harbinger's life in Equestria. So the deal with Harbinger's personality is that we never know how he is outside of the job. I'll keep him at a cold and pragmatic character who is blissfully unaware of most organic 'traditions'.
