Previous ChapterChapter 2: The Bad News, and the Worse News
As they waited outside Rarity's room the girls started to talk, looking over at Spike from time to time with extremely sad eyes. They knew how much he cared about Rarity, and for him to have been the one to find her after whatever happened to her. Eventually Spike caught on that they were looking at him so he started walking away. Even though he knew they were just trying to protect his feelings by not openly discussing what they thought happened around him, he still knew what was going on, and it still hurt. As Spike turned the corner his left leg gave out, a lingering effect of carrying Rarity all the way to the hospital on his back when she weighed four times as much as him. The pain caused him to remember what he had seen, smelled, and felt, causing him to collapse onto the ground. If only I had gone with her, then this might not have happened! Spike shouted inside his head, about to start attacking himself when Twilight put her hoof on his shoulder.
"Spike, are you okay?" Twilight asked, giving him a genuinely worried look.
"I don't know..." Spike said quietly as he pulled himself up off the ground, his leg barely managing to keep him up with how weak it was. He shrugged off the tingly feeling it was giving him and went to sit down, only for Rarity's doctor and a pair of nurses to go running past him into her room. His eyes opened up immediately and within a few seconds he was in the room as well, watching as the nurses checked Rarity's vitals. Spike felt like his world was coming down around him, but once the doctor let out a sigh of relief he knew things were okay, for now.
"That was close Rarity, you need to stay still in that bed, too much movement and you'll open your wounds, or rip off your monitors again" the doctor said as he checked off something on Rarity's medical sheet, putting it back as soon as he was done. When he turned around he saw Spike, who had been watching with wide eyes.
"Rarity, do you know this dragon?" the doctor asked, making Rarity look towards Spike, which seemed to take a lot of effort from her. She smiled weakly at Spike before turning towards the nurse that was making sure everything had been hooked up correctly.
"Can he stay here?" Rarity asked, the nurse giving Spike a look before smiling at Rarity, nodding to say yes. Once Rarity had looked back at Spike he walked over, just as Rarity let her head fall back into the pillows. Without saying anything Spike put a claw on Rarity's hoof, getting her to turn her head to look at him.
"Hello Spikey-Wikey" Rarity said, sounding a little loopy from the pain medicine that they had just given her. Spike could feel his heart twisting in his chest. He was happy that she wanted him to stay there, but it killed him to see her the way she was. Rarity seemed to notice this so she moved her hoof up just a bit, so she could rest it on his arm, making him look towards it.
"Spike?" Rarity asked, causing Spike to smile sadly, "Can I tell you something that I don't want anypony else to know?" Spike was completely caught off guard by her question, causing him to almost jump out of his seat. Thankfully the nurse had left just before that so no pony but Rarity saw it.
"Sure, but, why me?" Spike asked quickly, "I'm nothing special, and I'm sure Twilight or the girls would-"
"I know you were the one that brought me here Spike" Rarity said, making Spike shut up immediately as she put a hoof on his cheek. He gave her a look that basically begged the question that he wanted to ask.
"How?"
"When you were carrying me I woke up, just enough to know that it was you, and that you were crying" Rarity said, her own eyes welling up with tears, "I heard what you said, about how you..." There was silence in the room as Rarity's hoof fell back down to Spike's arm, and the silence would have stayed were it not for the girls peeking their heads in from the hallway.
"Is everything okay?" Applejack asked quietly, getting a sweet smile from Rarity.
"Yes, everything is fine, but, there's something I need to tell all of you" Rarity said, pausing to look at Spike, "And it's about what happened" The five girls quickly trotted up to Rarity's bedside, all of them interested in what she had to say. Once they were all settled Rarity began to speak.
"What happened was..." Rarity said, her voice cracking as she remembered every detail of it, "I was raped" All of the mares in the room gasped, the five of them looking between each other in surprise.
"By who?" Fluttershy asked worriedly, but Rarity just shook her head.
"I can't remember right now, the doctor's said I might have forced myself to forget it, and..." Rarity took a big gulp of air so she could steady herself, "I got pregnant because of it" Everypony, including Spike, just stared wide eyed at Rarity, all of their eyes slowly narrowing as they each thought of what they would do to the pony that did this, and Rarity knew it.
"I know it's horrid, but please, I just want to forget about it" Rarity asked, almost begging, causing all of them to calm down immediately, "Now, could I please be alone for a little bit, I think I want some time to rest" All six of her guests nodded, and before Spike could leave she touched his neck with her tail, making him turn around. When he looked at her she mouthed the words "Thank you" and "We'll talk later, I promise". With that she turned back into her pillows, pushing her head into it so that she could fall asleep, even with the images of what happened running through her mind. Outside the room everypony was very quiet and reserved, even Pinkie, and so they all decided to head home, except for Spike. He was determined to be there for Rarity, so he sat there in the hallway for the entire night, just waiting for morning to come.
