Chapter One: A Story of Mare meets Mare
This is a story of mare meets mare.
The first mare, Rainbow Dash of Cloudsdale, grew up believing that she'd never truly be happy until the day she met the one. This belief stemmed from early exposure to sad Stalliongard pop music and a total misreading of the play 'Flight School Graduate'.
The other mare, Twilight Sparkle of Canterlot, did not share this belief. Since the disintegration of her parent's marriage she'd only love two things. The first was her long purple and pink mane. The second was how easily she could cut it off and feel nothing.
Rainbow Dash meets Twilight on January 8th. She knows almost immediately she is who she has been searching for.
This is a story of mare meets mare, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story.
(Day 290)
The apartment was quickly filled the shattering of plates as ceramic pieces flew to the tile floor. Plate after plate Rainbow Dash stood on her hind legs, smashing each and everyone. Not out of anger as some may think, just for the sake of destroying something beautiful. Hey rose colored eyes were glazed over with a disdain sense of emotion. Her senses dulled, not allowing her to hear her to friends asking her to calm down.
"Sug.. please put tha plate down.." Applejack said as she stood in the entry way of the kitchen and living room. The apartment wasn't big, limited to the living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. "Yah're gunna break all yah plates hun." Rainbow didn't seem to mind, or even hear the words come from her lips.
"Dashie please stop! I don't like loud noises, you know that!" Derpy tried to talk over the smashing of the plates while putting her hooves up to cover her ears. To no avail, it was like Dash was in another universe completely. The tiny fragments of ceramic plate were not scattered over the floor and slide as far as the wooden flooring in the living room. Before Dash could smash another plate on the counter, a loud knock on the door finally snapped her out of her seemingly ritualistic trance.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
"Sis! Open up!" A small voice came from outside the door. Applejack quickly turned around and pulled on the door. Standing out in the cheap apartments hallway was a small orange filly with purple hair hidden by a bright yellow helmet. With the scooter by her side she walked in and nodded to Applejack and Derpy. "You did the right thing."
"Scootaloo.. does Mom know you're here?" Rainbow Dash finally spoke after hours of keeping silent. The plate was still hanging in mid air by her hoof before it slowly lowered to the table without breaking. Derpy let out a sigh of relief.
"Don't worry about that. Come over here and sit down." Scootaloo said as she walked over toward the kitchen passing Dash on her way. Derpy slid over on the sofa leaving room for Dash to sit. In exhaustion she plopped herself down on the sofa, the same way their friend Lyra usually sits. With a deep sigh her head fell to her hooves. Applejack sat back on her haunches in front of the cyan colored mare. Scootaloo came back in with a glass filled with a brown liquid and handed it to Rainbow.
"Here, drink this and tell me what happened." She pulled up a chair and sat directly in front of Dash and next to Applejack.
Rainbow Dash, upon taking the glass, asked "What is this..?" Then quickly gulped it down. The burning sensation numbed her tongue for a minute and traveled down her throat leaving her body feeling nice and warm.
"Hard apple cider. Now tell me what happened." Derpy just looked at Scootaloo in surprise that she even knew what that stuff was. All she could think about was if Dinky to knew what it was. She found herself way off track and quickly tuned back into the conversation.
Rainbow Dash sighed and gave the glass to Applejack. "She was the best thing to ever happen to me." Images of Rainbow and Twilight cuddling close together on her nice warm bed, hooves entangled with one another, her wing wrapped around the unicorn and kissing her soft lips. "She's gone. I let her go. It was so sudden. I don't even know what the hay I did!"
~---------------------------~
"I think we should break up."
Rainbow Dash's jaw dropped and she fell back in her seat. "Wh-what? Why?"
Twilight continued "Oh come on, you can't say you didn't see this coming. We've been fighting for weeks."
"That's bullshit."
"How can you be happy like this?" Twilight spoke in a calm tone as the waitress pony dropped off their plates of hay bacon strips.
"What do you mean? I'm happy. I've been happy! Are you not happy?!"
Twilight took a sip of her juice and looked up at her and said "Rainbow, we've been awful these past weeks. Let's just eat and we can talk about it later." She then picked up a piece of hay bacon and began to chew on it. "This is really really good, I'm glad we came here."
Rainbow Dash's faces was filled with sorrow, disgust and a tinge of anger. She couldn't believe what was happened. She pushed the plate away and got up and began to walk toward the door. Twilight quickly turned around and yelled "Don't go! You're still my best friend!!"
~---------------------------~
"Oo that is harsh sug." Applejack said out loud before getting elbowed by the pegasus filly next to her. Applejack then cleared her throat and continued "You've broken up with mares before.. and they ahve broke up wit you."
"But this is different."
"Why Dashie?" Derpy chimed in before Applejack had a chance to reply.
"She was the one."
"Look, Dash. I know you may think that but there are million of other mares out there. Probably a lot better than she could have ever been." Scootaloo was trying to get Dash to see the bright side of the dreary situation.
"Yeah Dashie, it's like the say. There's plenty of fish in the sea! It took me a while before I found the Doctor." Derpy said in her soft and childish tone. "Now look at me. I'm happily married with the best filly in the world; no offense Scoots."
"They are lying. Twilight was what the Doctor is to you, Derpy."
"Hun.. they do say thayt." Applejack said in a matter of fact tone.
"No they don't." Rainbow Dash paused as the group collectively sighed. "I have to get her back. I'm not going to let her go. She is the one, I'm telling you." Her head now lifted showing an expression of determination.
"I'll do whatever it takes to get Twilight back."
Day (001)
Rainbow Dash was sitting in the large open meeting room while her boss Cloudkicker was discussing new ways they could tackle taking care of the weather in Manehatten. The room was surrounded by clipboards, chalkboard, and posters along it's three main walls. To the left it opened up into a much larger room filled with ponies studying weather terminology, recording information and spacing out. Sunlight poured in through the wall of windows leaving a warm glow on everypony in the room. Dash was daydreaming again. She pictured herself actually out flying through the warm summer air as the heat from the sun sank into her body leaving a refreshing and rejuvenating feeling. The cool breeze to counteract the sun as it rushed by her coat and feathers.
Suddenly she was snapped out of her daydream by someone walking up the staircase from the busy room below. It was the most breathtakingly beautiful mare she had ever seen. Her coat was the most unique lavender color alone with her long, perfectly groomed purple and pink striped mane. She was a unicorn, but it only made her look even more attractive. He body was covered by a small yet beautiful dress that left her cutie mark of a bunch of sparkles revealed and her long toned legs. Dash's jaw dropped as she straightened her back in her chair.
"Fillies and Gentlecolts, I'd like to introduce my newest assistant. Twilight Sparkle. She just moved here from.. where was it?" Cloudkicker started, but only embarrassed himself by forgetting where she was from.
Then she spoke. Her voice was so heavenly Dash could of swore it were a choir of angels singing to her. "Canterlot. I just moved here from Canterlot." It wasn't over there, she then smiled. Dash instantly melted at the sight of that perfect smile. She knew right then and there. She was the one.
This Twilight Sparkle effect was an unexplained phenomena among ponies everywhere.
There is only two kinds of ponies in the world. There are mares and there is stallions. Twilight sparkle was a mare. Height average. Weight average. Magical ability.. slightly above average. For all intents and purposes, Twilight Sparkle was just another mare.
Except she wasn't.
Twilight Sparkles attendance at Magic Kindergarten had caused everyone in her class to excel far beyond the previous years students, just by her presence. She was chosen out of everyone to be the Princess Celestia's faithful student. Hey employment at the Canterlot library shot book rental, and sales, up around 500% above it's average rate. Any apartment she rented in Canterlot or Manehatten was given to her 20% below the normal price rate. Her daily trip to work resulted in 18.5 double takes everyday. The Twilight Sparkle effect was truly a phenomena.
Day (003)
Rainbow Dash sat, lounging in her chair across from Applejack. She was once again in the big room with a wall made of windows, the early morning sun warmed the room to the perfect temperature. It was beautiful outside, but Dash couldn't keep her mind on much of anything. Her gaze kept locking on to the beautiful lavender mare across the room. Her mind began to run free daydreaming of even talking to her.
"Hey sug. Yah know what ahm hearin' bout tha new mare yah'll are googlin' over?" Applejack said as she reached her head up to the divider to get Dash's attention.
"What AJ?"
"Soarin' tried talkin' tah her in the lunch room. Totally blew tha poor guy off, she's totally not havin' it."
"Maybe she was just in a hurry or something, she seems nic-" Dash was cut short as Applejack began to speak again.
"That or shesa better than everypony, uppity supah skank."
Dash shook her head and said with a troubled tone "What makes mares think they can treat anypony that talks to them like crap? It's totally not fair!"
Applejack said slyly "Years ah reinforcement hun."
Day (004)
The large metal elevator doors opened at last. Rainbow Dash hated waiting for the elevators. She had always wondered why they couldn't make them as fast as she was. The world might be a better place if everypony was as fast as me. She thought to herself as she smiled.
Just as she went to hit the button she heard a voice call out. "Wait up!" Twilight Sparkle had run up to the elevator doors and squeezed in. "Sorry about that."
Rainbow Dash took excellent skill in keeping her composure around the beautiful mare. She had nodded at the mare and turned to face forward. The conversation just yesterday between her and Applejack was now freshly looping in her mind. Her headphones were on and blaring a local Manehatten band named The Ponies. They had died out many years ago, but Dash loved every single song they had. It was then she heard Twilight talk, but she couldn't hear.
"Is that.. The Ponies..?"
Rainbow Dash quickly took off the headphones and replied with a "What.. I didn't hear, sorry."
"Is that The Ponies?"
Dash nodded.
"I love The Ponies! 'To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die.' Love 'em!" She smiled as the elevator doors opened and she trotted out.
Holy shit.
