    Chapter One: A Story of Mare meets Mare

    This is a story of mare meets mare.

    The first mare, Rainbow Dash of Cloudsdale, grew up believing that she'd never truly be happy until the day she met the one. This belief stemmed from early exposure to sad Stalliongard pop music and a total misreading of the play 'Flight School Graduate'.

    The other mare, Twilight Sparkle of Canterlot, did not share this belief. Since the disintegration of her parent's marriage she'd only love two things. The first was her long purple and pink mane. The second was how easily she could cut it off and feel nothing.

    Rainbow Dash meets Twilight on January 8th. She knows almost immediately she is who she has been searching for.

    This is a story of mare meets mare, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story.

    (Day 290)

    The apartment was quickly filled the shattering of plates as ceramic pieces flew to the tile floor. Plate after plate Rainbow Dash stood on her hind legs, smashing each and everyone. Not out of anger as some may think, just for the sake of destroying something beautiful. Hey rose colored eyes were glazed over with a disdain sense of emotion. Her senses dulled, not allowing her to hear her to friends asking her to calm down.

    "Sug.. please put tha plate down.." Applejack said as she stood in the entry way of the kitchen and living room. The apartment wasn't big, limited to the living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. "Yah're gunna break all yah plates hun." Rainbow didn't seem to mind, or even hear the words come from her lips.

    "Dashie please stop! I don't like loud noises, you know that!" Derpy tried to talk over the smashing of the plates while putting her hooves up to cover her ears. To no avail, it was like Dash was in another universe completely. The tiny fragments of ceramic plate were not scattered over the floor and slide as far as the wooden flooring in the living room. Before Dash could smash another plate on the counter, a loud knock on the door finally snapped her out of her seemingly ritualistic trance.

    Knock! Knock! Knock!

    "Sis! Open up!" A small voice came from outside the door. Applejack quickly turned around and pulled on the door. Standing out in the cheap apartments hallway was a small orange filly with purple hair hidden by a bright yellow helmet. With the scooter by her side she walked in and nodded to Applejack and Derpy. "You did the right thing."

    "Scootaloo.. does Mom know you're here?" Rainbow Dash finally spoke after hours of keeping silent. The plate was still hanging in mid air by her hoof before it slowly lowered to the table without breaking. Derpy let out a sigh of relief.

    "Don't worry about that. Come over here and sit down." Scootaloo said as she walked over toward the kitchen passing Dash on her way. Derpy slid over on the sofa leaving room for Dash to sit. In exhaustion she plopped herself down on the sofa, the same way their friend Lyra usually sits. With a deep sigh her head fell to her hooves. Applejack sat back on her haunches in front of the cyan colored mare. Scootaloo came back in with a glass filled with a brown liquid and handed it to Rainbow.

    "Here, drink this and tell me what happened." She pulled up a chair and sat directly in front of Dash and next to Applejack.

    Rainbow Dash, upon taking the glass, asked "What is this..?" Then quickly gulped it down. The burning sensation numbed her tongue for a minute and traveled down her throat leaving her body feeling nice and warm.

    "Hard apple cider. Now tell me what happened." Derpy just looked at Scootaloo in surprise that she even knew what that stuff was. All she could think about was if Dinky to knew what it was. She found herself way off track and quickly tuned back into the conversation.

    Rainbow Dash sighed and gave the glass to Applejack. "She was the best thing to ever happen to me." Images of Rainbow and Twilight cuddling close together on her nice warm bed, hooves entangled with one another, her wing wrapped around the unicorn and kissing her soft lips. "She's gone. I let her go. It was so sudden. I don't even know what the hay I did!"

    ~---------------------------~

    "I think we should break up."

    Rainbow Dash's jaw dropped and she fell back in her seat. "Wh-what? Why?"

    Twilight continued "Oh come on, you can't say you didn't see this coming. We've been fighting for weeks."

    "That's bullshit."

    "How can you be happy like this?" Twilight spoke in a calm tone as the waitress pony dropped off their plates of hay bacon strips.

    "What do you mean? I'm happy. I've been happy! Are you not happy?!"

    Twilight took a sip of her juice and looked up at her and said "Rainbow, we've been awful these past weeks. Let's just eat and we can talk about it later." She then picked up a piece of hay bacon and began to chew on it. "This is really really good, I'm glad we came here."

    Rainbow Dash's faces was filled with sorrow, disgust and a tinge of anger. She couldn't believe what was happened. She pushed the plate away and got up and began to walk toward the door. Twilight quickly turned around and yelled "Don't go! You're still my best friend!!"

    ~---------------------------~

    "Oo that is harsh sug." Applejack said out loud before getting elbowed by the pegasus filly next to her. Applejack then cleared her throat and continued "You've broken up with mares before.. and they ahve broke up wit you."

    "But this is different."

    "Why Dashie?" Derpy chimed in before Applejack had a chance to reply.

    "She was the one."

    "Look, Dash. I know you may think that but there are million of other mares out there. Probably a lot better than she could have ever been." Scootaloo was trying to get Dash to see the bright side of the dreary situation.

    "Yeah Dashie, it's like the say. There's plenty of fish in the sea! It took me a while before I found the Doctor." Derpy said in her soft and childish tone. "Now look at me. I'm happily married with the best filly in the world; no offense Scoots."

    "They are lying. Twilight was what the Doctor is to you, Derpy."

    "Hun.. they do say thayt." Applejack said in a matter of fact tone.

    "No they don't." Rainbow Dash paused as the group collectively sighed. "I have to get her back. I'm not going to let her go. She is the one, I'm telling you." Her head now lifted showing an expression of determination.

    "I'll do whatever it takes to get Twilight back."

    Day (001)

    Rainbow Dash was sitting in the large open meeting room while her boss Cloudkicker was discussing new ways they could tackle taking care of the weather in Manehatten. The room was surrounded by clipboards, chalkboard, and posters along it's three main walls. To the left it opened up into a much larger room filled with ponies studying weather terminology, recording information and spacing out. Sunlight poured in through the wall of windows leaving a warm glow on everypony in the room. Dash was daydreaming again. She pictured herself actually out flying through the warm summer air as the heat from the sun sank into her body leaving a refreshing and rejuvenating feeling. The cool breeze to counteract the sun as it rushed by her coat and feathers.

    Suddenly she was snapped out of her daydream by someone walking up the staircase from the busy room below. It was the most breathtakingly beautiful mare she had ever seen. Her coat was the most unique lavender color alone with her long, perfectly groomed purple and pink striped mane. She was a unicorn, but it only made her look even more attractive. He body was covered by a small yet beautiful dress that left her cutie mark of a bunch of sparkles revealed and her long toned legs. Dash's jaw dropped as she straightened her back in her chair.

    "Fillies and Gentlecolts, I'd like to introduce my newest assistant. Twilight Sparkle. She just moved here from.. where was it?" Cloudkicker started, but only embarrassed himself by forgetting where she was from.

    Then she spoke. Her voice was so heavenly Dash could of swore it were a choir of angels singing to her. "Canterlot. I just moved here from Canterlot." It wasn't over there, she then smiled. Dash instantly melted at the sight of that perfect smile. She knew right then and there. She was the one.

    This Twilight Sparkle effect was an unexplained phenomena among ponies everywhere.

    There is only two kinds of ponies in the world. There are mares and there is stallions. Twilight sparkle was a mare. Height average. Weight average. Magical ability.. slightly above average. For all intents and purposes, Twilight Sparkle was just another mare.

    Except she wasn't.

    Twilight Sparkles attendance at Magic Kindergarten had caused everyone in her class to excel far beyond the previous years students, just by her presence. She was chosen out of everyone to be the Princess Celestia's faithful student. Hey employment at the Canterlot library shot book rental, and sales, up around 500% above it's average rate. Any apartment she rented in Canterlot or Manehatten was given to her 20% below the normal price rate. Her daily trip to work resulted in 18.5 double takes everyday. The Twilight Sparkle effect was truly a phenomena.

    Day (003)

    Rainbow Dash sat, lounging in her chair across from Applejack. She was once again in the big room with a wall made of windows, the early morning sun warmed the room to the perfect temperature. It was beautiful outside, but Dash couldn't keep her mind on much of anything. Her gaze kept locking on to the beautiful lavender mare across the room. Her mind began to run free daydreaming of even talking to her.

    "Hey sug. Yah know what ahm hearin' bout tha new mare yah'll are googlin' over?" Applejack said as she reached her head up to the divider to get Dash's attention.

    "What AJ?"

    "Soarin' tried talkin' tah her in the lunch room. Totally blew tha poor guy off, she's totally not havin' it."

    "Maybe she was just in a hurry or something, she seems nic-" Dash was cut short as Applejack began to speak again.

    "That or shesa better than everypony, uppity supah skank."

    Dash shook her head and said with a troubled tone "What makes mares think they can treat anypony that talks to them like crap? It's totally not fair!"

    Applejack said slyly "Years ah reinforcement hun."

    Day (004)

    The large metal elevator doors opened at last. Rainbow Dash hated waiting for the elevators. She had always wondered why they couldn't make them as fast as she was. The world might be a better place if everypony was as fast as me. She thought to herself as she smiled.

    Just as she went to hit the button she heard a voice call out. "Wait up!" Twilight Sparkle had run up to the elevator doors and squeezed in. "Sorry about that."

    Rainbow Dash took excellent skill in keeping her composure around the beautiful mare. She had nodded at the mare and turned to face forward. The conversation just yesterday between her and Applejack was now freshly looping in her mind. Her headphones were on and blaring a local Manehatten band named The Ponies. They had died out many years ago, but Dash loved every single song they had. It was then she heard Twilight talk, but she couldn't hear.

    "Is that.. The Ponies..?"

    Rainbow Dash quickly took off the headphones and replied with a "What.. I didn't hear, sorry."

    "Is that The Ponies?"

    Dash nodded.

    "I love The Ponies! 'To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die.' Love 'em!" She smiled as the elevator doors opened and she trotted out.

    Holy shit.

    I Think I'm in Love with Twilight

    Chapter Two: I Think I'm in Love with Twilight

    They used to call me anal girl.

    Day (008)

    Sunshine poured through the wall of intimidatingly high windows that loomed over the busy room. Ponies bustling about, party hats, juice, streamers, and plenty of warm smiles for everypony. The air was filled with a happiness that seemed to fill everypony to their core, leaving grins on all of their faces. It was a long time employee, Cheerilee's engagement party with Big Macintosh.

    Rainbow Dash weaved in between office cubicles and partying ponies with a tray of drinks in her mouth. Finally she spotted who she had been looking for. Twilight Sparkle. Her lavender coat was shimmering in the soft glow of the warming sunlight. Twilight turned to see Dash approaching her and smiled. Dash set the tray down and pushed one of the drinks over toward her.

    "Got you a drink. I saw you standing over here by yourself. You're the new girl right, Twilight Sparkle?" Dash tried to convince that he wasn't sure of her name or if she was the new girl. She had easily known all he could about the beautiful mare.

    "Yes, I am Twilight Sparkle. Just moved here from Canterlot, wanted a change a scenery." She levitated the glass up as she spoke, and took a sip after she was done.

    "Canterlot, I hear that place is pretty high class. So you just came here.. out of boredom?"

    "Yeah. We're young yah know? I want to travel and live life." She took another sip and then smiled. That smile was enough to melt Dash on the inside. She loved it.

    "I completely agree. So you escaped boredom by coming here.." She looked out into the room and waved a hoof at all the button down boring ponies scattered about. "You've clearly come to the right place."

    Twilight laughed and rebuttaled "It's a change of scenery!" Her laugh subsiding she leaned against the nearby wall and questioned "So how long have you been here?"

    Dash took another sip of her drink, almost finishing it. Her head went back and she rubbed her chin with her hoof in thought. "I've been here pretty much all my life. I grew up in Cloudsdale but ended up coming here soon after. All of my memories are here." She looked to Twilight and laughed "I've always been content here."

    Twilight nodded, obviously seeing the city meant a lot to her. "So, did you always want to be a weather pony? You said yourself this place is kind of boring."

    Dash sighed and groaned before she answered. "I practiced to become a Wonderbolt.. It's really my dream. To fly with those amazing ponies, soaring through the open air and not a care in the world. Free from the slavery of a nine to five job."

    "What happened? Why didn't you chase it?"

    "Oh you know. Life happened. I need an apartment, bits to buy food. Next thing you know, how many years later and I'm still here." A pang of regret coated every word she spoke while her face was doused in it.

    The two began to walk down a set of stairs as they conversed back and fourth. Both of them totally engaged in their conversation, seeming to each other to be the only ponies in the room. They reached the bottom floor and ended up at Dash's desk.

    "Well you're a perfectly adequate weather pony!" Twilight said jokingly as she smiled at Dash.

    "Oh yeah, that's what they called me in Flight School. Perfectly Adequate weather pony." Dash laughed at her sarcastic remark and began to take the last sip.

    "They used to call me anal girl."

    Dash spit out the apple juice everywhere choking on it at her response. She coughed a little and set the drink down as she looked over at Twilight, juice dampening her cyan coat.

    "I was.. very neat and organized.."

    "Oh yeah!" Dash said trying to play it off.

    "Well I better get back to work, it was nice talking to you Dash, bye!" With that Twilight walked away back to her desk in front of Cloudkicker's office and quickly got back to work.

    Dash wiped away the apple juice from her mouth and coat and sat back in her chair. She looked at the picture of the Wonderbolts doing amazing tricks, gliding through the air then to the picture of her practicing flying. She could feel that pang of regret in the pit of her stomach as a single tear began to roll down her face and onto the desk before her.

    Day (154)

    Rainbow Dash and Applejack were walking down the busy Manehatten street. Ponies in suits and dresses were walking past and soared overheard. Applejack was biting into a fresh apple she just purchased at a nearby stand as Dash began to speak.

    "It's official. I think I'm in love with Twilight."

    Applejack spit out the delicious apple chunk she had just bit off and looked at the lovestruck Dash walking beside her. They both came to a stop and Dash look at Applejack as she continue.

    "I love her smile.
    Those slender legs.
    Her sparkling cutie mark.
    The way she licks her lips before she is about to talk.
    Her laugh.
    The way she looks when she's sleeping.
    This song I hear in my head every time I'm with her."

    She's like the wind through my tree
    She rides the night next to me
    She leads me through moonlight
    Only to burn me with the sun
    She's taken my heart
    But she doesn't know what she's done

    "And how.. when I'm with her, everything feels okay. Like.. life is worth it." Rainbow Dash began to walk ahead leaving a stunned Applejack behind her.

    "This is not good."

    Day (011)

    "I'm telling you Scootaloo, we talked about the Wonderbolts for like twenty minutes, and she's a unicorn! It was totally compatible." Dash said as she laid on the ground, sprawled out looking up at the white puffy clouds above her. The cool summer air brushed her chromatic colored mane across the grass.

    "Look Rainbow. Just because some unicorn has the same bizarre interest in the Wonderbolts as you does NOT make her your soul mate." Scootaloo was nimbly making circles with her scooter around the lounging Rainbow.

    Day (022)

    "It's off."

    Rainbow Dash, Derpy, and Applejack were sitting in a Victorian styled cafe waiting for the drinks to come. Applejack and Derpy were both playing checkers while Dash watched.

    Derpy said curiously "What Dashie?"

    "Me and Twilight.."

    Applejack quickly chimed in with "Was it ever even on?"

    "No. Well, maybe in an alternate universe where good things happen to me it might be."

    Applejack quickly delivered the finishing blow and took the last of Derpy's checker pieces. "Ahright! Ah told yah you can' beat me!" Derpy's head dropped in sadness before looking back up at Dash and saying "Well.. what happened?"

    Okay so there we were in the elevator with ten more floors to ride.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Rainbow Dash looked over at the lavender mare next to her. "Hi Twilight!" Twilight smiled back and said her hello with a tiny wave of her hoof. "So how was your weekend?"
    Twilight stopped and looked up toward the ceiling in thought. A smile grew on her face as she then began to speak. "It was GOOD."
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    "Can you believe that shit?"

    Just then the waiter mare walked over using her magic to levitate a tray of apple juice down to the three ponies. Then smiled and walked away back to do her job.

    Applejack looked completely dumbfounded at the mare's story and response. "Uh sug.. what shit?" Derpy looked over toward Applejack to see she was just as confused as she was.

    "She said good. Emphasis on the good. She basically just said she spent the whole weekend fooling around with probably some macho type stallion. It's fine though. I'm over, I don't need her." Her friends faces were in shock. "You know.. being by yourself is underrated. Loneliness is a virtue."

    "What in tarnation is wrong with yah hun?" Applejack responded after a small moment of silence.

    "Look she's just not into me. There is really nothing I can do about it AJ."

    "Yah know ah hate that name.. but are you crazy?" Applejack quickly retorted.

    Derpy decided to chime in with "You know.. if she say's hi instead of hello, that mean's that she's really a stallion right? Or if she says hey inst-" Before she could even finish Applejack couldn't hold back her laugh anymore and was rolling on the ground.

    "Look I gave her PLENTY of chances.."

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Twilight through the crowded room toward Rainbow Dash and Applejack's desks. "Hey Rainbow Dash, I was going into the back room.. did you need anything?"
    Rainbow Dash put on her sunglasses, despite being indoors and said in her coolest tone yet "I think you know what I need."
    The most awkward of silences fell over the area as Applejack tried to hold her laughter in but let one slip. Rainbow Dash took off her glasses and looked at the dazed Twilight. "Uh.. just some paper.."
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    "It's whatever guys, I'm fine. It's not like I NEED a drop dead gorgeous mare like her in my life. Like I said, loneliness is overrated my friends." Dash said with a sigh as she looked toward the floor.

    "But Dashie.. you could just ask her to go out with you-" Applejack didn't give Derpy a chance to finish before chiming in. "Ask tha girl out on a date sug!"

    Rainbow slowly looked up from the ground and scoffed. "Don't be stupid.."

    Day (027)

    Rainbow Dash sat at her desk with headphones on listening to Octavia's beautiful classical masterpieces. They always put her in a calm and relaxed mood even though it totally wasn't her style. She saw the music as sort of a guilty pleasure. It wasn't long before AJ jumped on onto her chair and flailed her arms in front of Dash to get her attention. Finally she slid the headphones off. "What Aj?"

    "This Friday.. all yah can karaoke at Vinyl's Club!" Apple said, her voice filled with joy and anxiousness.

    "No!" Rainbow Dash said while laughing. "They're not going to let you back in the place after last time."

    "Awh come on sug, I wasn that bad.."

    "Applejack.. you got way to drunk. You tried to fight the bartender, broke countless numbers of cups, threatened to burn the place down, and got us kicked out." Fond memories of Applejack falling all over herself and singing Hush Now, Quiet Now replayed themselves in her mind. It brought a smile to her face.

    "Yah see! Ah threatened to.. ah didn actually do it now."

    "We are not going back there Aj." Dash said firmly to her friends pleading.

    "The whole office is going though!"

    "I said no Appl-" Dash didn't even get to finish before Apple cut her off mid sentence.

    "Ah don think yah understand sug.. the WHOLE office is going." Her extra emphasis on whole and nod over in Twilight's direction finally got the message through to Dash.

    "I love you Aj!" Dash said practically jumping out of her seat.

    "Ah know hun, ah know."

    Day (028)

    Rainbow Dash walked into the dimly lit club known as Vinyl's Bar. Vinyl was the most famous DJ in all of Equestria and his clubs were known to be the best places to party with the best ponies. As she walked in the smell of sarsaparilla filled the air along with the chattering of a couple dozen ponies. She quickly noticed Applejack was on stage singing Every Apple Has It's Core, one of Aj's favorites. From the slurred speech Dash could already tell Aj was already well on her way to being like she was last time. After seeing her walk into the bar, Aj quickly threw the microphone down and ran over to her gleefully.

    "Dashie you made it!" She slurred as she threw her arms around her and smiled.

    "Whoa, think you've had a little much to drink there Applejack?" Dash managed to say before the drunk Aj squeezed the life out of her.

    "Nuh uhhh. I has had just enough little Missy!" Her tone was playfully and this caused her to squeeze Dash even harder.

    "Okay okay! Let go already!" Just as she finished pushing Applejack off of her and down into a nearby seat, that is when Dash spotted her. Twilight Sparkle. The most beautiful mare in all of Manehatten. Before she knew it the mare was walking over toward her with a smile on her face.
