Lonely Luna
Chapter 3
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSoarin awoke to a soft yellow sun on his face and a cyan pony's hoof in his side.
"Wake up!" Rainbow Dash said. She was obviously annoyed. Soarin bolted upright as he remembered the events from the night before. It had all been so wonderful that it seemed like a dream, but the mess that had been left on and around him was a clear indicator that it had all been real. Luna was no where to be seen, so she must have left sometime before morning.
"That was amazing last night" Soarin sighed, almost without thinking.
"I'm glad you liked it..." Rainbow dash said. A hurt expression came over her face, and her voice sounded as though she were holding back a flood of tears. Soarin's heart sank as he realized how in-depth he and the princess had gone.
"Rainbow, I'm sorry." Soarin told her. "You know I love you, and you know I would never leave you. Not even for a princess."
Rainbow Dash gave him a curious look. "I bet that's what you tell Spitfire too."
That statement struck Soarin pretty hard. He had been cheating on Spitfire for almost three months now, and she had no idea. He had been abandoning his companion on the one day of the week that they didn't practice for almost the entirety of the three months that he has been with Rainbow. Soarin started to protest in an attempt to defend himself, but Rainbow Dash stopped him.
"I know, I was the one who set you two up" she said, "but when I came back, I thought you two would be done. It was the way you two looked at eachother... Soarin, I've never seen you look at me that way." Rainbow said. A tear managed to escape her, but she wiped it away before it could roll down her cheek. Soarin felt a guilty weight settling on him. He knew he loved Rainbow, but he was certain that last night, he had loved Luna more.
"Rainbow, it was just a one night thing" Soarin said. He hoped it wasn't a lie. "Plus, Princess Luna is going to make it to where we can meet more often now, right?"
Rainbow Dash nodded. She felt a little better from his words, but she couldn't help thinking about the look in Soarin's eyes when she had seen him with Luna. It had been the look of a dumbfounded pony. The look of a pony who had experienced the best moment of his life, and it crushed her to think that he had been giving that look to somepony else.
"You should probably get back" Rainbow said. Soarin looked at the angle of the sun, and knew that she was right. He pulled the sad little mare into a kiss, and then broke off with a goodbye. He took off into the air and headed towards Ponyville, where he would then circle back and go to the Wonderbolt headquarters. As he flew, he only had one thought that he couldn't push out of his head. That kiss with Rainbow Dash hadn't felt nearly as good as it should have.

Luna rolled over in her bead. She had just put the moon down so that her sister could raise the sun. The entire time, she had been distracted by memories of Soarin. No matter how much she told herself that he was no different from any other pony she had been with, she couldn't help but feel that something had been different. Soarin hadn't been any better than other ponies she had been with. He wasn't any handsomer, or any nicer. He was in every way just as good as any other pony that Luna had experienced, but something had been different.
"What was it?" Luna asked herself out loud.
"What was what, Luna?"
Luna jumped at the sound of Celestia's voice. She hadn't even noticed her sister's entrance, but she had to make up a lie fast.
"Uh- I'm uh- trying to, uh, remember the name of- um, the pony in the bakery?"
Celestia looked puzzled at Luna's apparent nervousness. "Are you referring to Pinkie Pie?" she asked.
"Oh, yes. That's her." Luna said, faking a relieved voice.
Celestia walked up closer to where Luna lay. "Why is this troubling you so?" she asked.
Luna felt her heart stop. Why, why why? She asked herself. "I'm trying to... remember all of the ponies names! Yes, because I don't know any of them because of being banished to the moon." The lie came out surprisingly easy, and Celestia seemed convinced.
"That is an excellent idea. Let me know if you need any more help." Celestia went over to her end of the huge bedroom that they shared. Luna was relieved that her sister had bought the lie. Celestia had found out once before about what Luna had been doing in the towns, and she had been furious. In Celestia's mind, such acts were an abomination for a princess to perform. Celestia had ranted on at the time, informing Luna that her actions could only ever be acceptable under legal courtship, preferably with another alicorn.
Luna couldn't resist the temptation though. Now that she had found Soarin, the temptation was even greater. She already had in mind the day that she would "ruin" for the Wonderbolts, and she was already forming the plan that she would use to steal the magnificent Pegasus from Rainbow Dash yet again. It was wrong, she knew, but the lust in her heart would cause her to go insane if it wasn't satiated soon.
