Night Sky

It was night, the moon shone bright and it’s light washed over the small town of Ponyville. In the town, a large building known as the Carousel Boutique still had it’s lights on. Inside the massive building six mares known as the Elements Of Harmony sat in a circle, catching up and having a chit-chat session.

“-then I kicked it right in the face and pow! It whimpered and ran back into the forest.” Rainbow Dash said

“So, lemme get this straight. Y’all were walkin’ through the Everfree Forest fer no dang reason and you beat the hay out of a Timberwolf.” Applejack asked.

     “Exactly.”

“Rainbow, why were y’all out there in the first place?”

     “None of your business.”

The mares continued talking and eventually came back to the topic of Timberwolves.

“Say, you girls know about wolves right?” Rainbow Dash asked

“Who doesn’t? They’re made out of wood they eat ponies-” Twilight said

     “No! Not timberwolves, normal wolves.”

“Normal wolves?” Twilight said raising an eyebrow

“Yeah! I mean, Timberwolves are pretty dangerous... but wolves are where all the dangers at.” Rainbow Dash said

Of course, the cyan blue pegasus was right. Timberwolves were tougher, with wooden bodies and a bite so big it could kill a pony in one go, these monsters were a force to be reckoned with. They were always hostile towards anything that walks through the forest. However, they lacked the sense of smell and they couldn’t weave through trees or enter certain areas. They simply weren’t maneuverable or agile.

But wolves, these creatures are a whole new level of danger themselves. They weren’t as tough as their wooden cousins, but they were nimbler, and much more agile. What they lacked in strength they made up in ferocity. They worked as a single unit, with each pack usually consisting of more than twenty wolves. The timberwolves were big and strong, but the wolves were much more faster and much more ferocious, their senses were sharper and they were much more intelligent. If anypony heard a wolf howl... it was time to lock the doors and hide.

      “No argument here.” Twilight said

“Fluttershy, don’t you have a couple of wolf friends?” Rainbow asked

      “Oh... no.” Fluttershy replied

The mares continued their conversation, eventually it arrived at the topic of Twilight and her magic.

“So Twi, working on any new spells lately?” Rainbow asked

Twilight’s ears perked up and she flashed a wide smile. She went over to her saddlebags and grabbed a book. She brought it back to her five friends and put it in the middle where everyone could see.

     “Novelty Spells A-Z?” Rarity said

“Yup! Ever since my magic battle with Trixie I’ve been working on a couple of transformation spells.”

“So, you mind showing us what you’ve got?” Rainbow Dash asked

Twilight stepped back, she lowered her horn and purple light blazed on the tip. She shut her eyes and concentrated. Her friends had also shut their eyes, and were preparing themselves for the worst.

The ball of light practically exploded and encased all six of the mares in a blinding purple light. Twilight could feel her hooves shrink, growing thinner and thinner yet still keeping their original length, she felt her shrunken hooves grow out four toes and on each toe out sprang a claw. Twilight felt her teeth grow sharper and sharper, she felt her snout elongating, her nose went wet, she felt her tail take on a much more tubular shape. Twilight passed out shortly afterwards.

When she woke up again, the first thing she saw was her legs. Her hooves had been replaced by paws with razor sharp nails on each toe. Twilight immediately shot up, looking around the room. Her friends were still asleep. She dashed towards a mirror and gazed into it. She saw a lavender wolf staring back at her. Her tail was now more wolf-ish, being purple with only the tip being pink, her body had slimmed down to the sleek body of a wolf, with her cutie mark was still in place, her mane was still the same.

Twilight nodded approvingly at her handiwork. She found a comfortable place to sit and waited for her friends to wake up and take a quick glance before she changed them back.

It wasn’t long until the rest of the elements woke up. When they did... they panicked, with only Pinkie Pie grinning like mad, all their body parts had changed and morphed, save for their manes and their colors. Twilight had eventually managed to calm them down. Once that was accomplished, she lowered her stance and prepared to cast another spell.

Except there was one tiny little problem.

Twilight tried to cast a spell but nothing happened. She tried again and nothing happened. She looked up and saw her friends staring at her. Rainbow rolled her eyes while Applejack yawned. Twilight panicked and back to the mirror. She finally noticed a very important detail.

Her horn was gone.

Gone.

Just like that.

No more.

Twilight fell on her rump and looked at her friends, who had just begun noticing their missing body parts, Rainbow Dash was frustrated about the disappearance of her wings, Rarity was whining about not being able to use magic while Applejack and Pinkie simply walked around trying to get accustomed to their new body.

“Girls, without my horn, I can’t cast a spell!”

“You don’t say?” Rainbow Dash said rather bemusedly.

Twilight ignored her and continued panicking.

“Quick! We’re going to need to get somepony else to change us back.”

“How’s about we get Spike to send the princess a letter?” Rarity asked

“Good idea! Girls, to the library!”

The six wolves exited the boutique and ran towards the library. It was rather weird at first, considering how fast they were now, as well as their strange new joints, but eventually the elements managed to get the hang of running in wolf form. They made their way to the library in no time with nopony else seeing them. The other five stayed outside while Twilight barged in and looked for her purple and green assistant. She found him arranging the books on the shelf.

     “Spike!”

The small dragon turned around and stumbled backwards, slamming himself into the bookshelf. His eyes were filled with shock, beads of sweat were forming on his face. He stared at Twilight with his mouth agape.

     “It’s me Twilight!”

The dragon seemed to be unable to hear his master. It was as if Twilight was speaking in a different language.

Suddenly his fear turned to annoyance.

“Get out of here you animal!”

     “But It’s me-”

The dragon blew forth a jet of green fire. Twilight dodged the green flames and tried to reason with her assistant.

     “But Spike it’s me! Twilight!”

“Would ya’ quit barking and just stay still?!”

Spike blew forth another tidal wave of flames, Twilight dodged it once more and tried her h-... I mean paw, at reasoning with the little dragon.

“Spike! I need you to send the Princess a letter!”

     “HOLD STILL!”

The dragon inhaled an unnaturally large amount of air, and he exhaled. A huge wall of green fire blazed and threatened to turn Twilight into fried wolf.

Twilight made a beeline for the door to avoid getting roasted alive. Twilight crashed through the wooden door, she ran towards the Everfree forest, her five friends in tow while the dragon still blew his flames. Next Chapter: Meet The Pack Estimated time remaining: 59 Minutes
