Howling For You

Night Sky

It was night, the moon shone bright and it’s light washed over the small town of Ponyville. In the town, a large building known as the Carousel Boutique still had it’s lights on. Inside the massive building six mares known as the Elements Of Harmony sat in a circle, catching up and having a chit-chat session.

“-then I kicked it right in the face and pow! It whimpered and ran back into the forest.” Rainbow Dash said

“So, lemme get this straight. Y’all were walkin’ through the Everfree Forest fer no dang reason and you beat the hay out of a Timberwolf.” Applejack asked.

     “Exactly.”

“Rainbow, why were y’all out there in the first place?”

     “None of your business.”

The mares continued talking and eventually came back to the topic of Timberwolves.

“Say, you girls know about wolves right?” Rainbow Dash asked

“Who doesn’t? They’re made out of wood they eat ponies-” Twilight said

     “No! Not timberwolves, normal wolves.”

“Normal wolves?” Twilight said raising an eyebrow

“Yeah! I mean, Timberwolves are pretty dangerous... but wolves are where all the dangers at.” Rainbow Dash said

Of course, the cyan blue pegasus was right. Timberwolves were tougher, with wooden bodies and a bite so big it could kill a pony in one go, these monsters were a force to be reckoned with. They were always hostile towards anything that walks through the forest. However, they lacked the sense of smell and they couldn’t weave through trees or enter certain areas. They simply weren’t maneuverable or agile.

But wolves, these creatures are a whole new level of danger themselves. They weren’t as tough as their wooden cousins, but they were nimbler, and much more agile. What they lacked in strength they made up in ferocity. They worked as a single unit, with each pack usually consisting of more than twenty wolves. The timberwolves were big and strong, but the wolves were much more faster and much more ferocious, their senses were sharper and they were much more intelligent. If anypony heard a wolf howl... it was time to lock the doors and hide.

      “No argument here.” Twilight said

“Fluttershy, don’t you have a couple of wolf friends?” Rainbow asked

      “Oh... no.” Fluttershy replied

The mares continued their conversation, eventually it arrived at the topic of Twilight and her magic.

“So Twi, working on any new spells lately?” Rainbow asked

Twilight’s ears perked up and she flashed a wide smile. She went over to her saddlebags and grabbed a book. She brought it back to her five friends and put it in the middle where everyone could see.

     “Novelty Spells A-Z?” Rarity said

“Yup! Ever since my magic battle with Trixie I’ve been working on a couple of transformation spells.”

“So, you mind showing us what you’ve got?” Rainbow Dash asked

Twilight stepped back, she lowered her horn and purple light blazed on the tip. She shut her eyes and concentrated. Her friends had also shut their eyes, and were preparing themselves for the worst.

The ball of light practically exploded and encased all six of the mares in a blinding purple light. Twilight could feel her hooves shrink, growing thinner and thinner yet still keeping their original length, she felt her shrunken hooves grow out four toes and on each toe out sprang a claw. Twilight felt her teeth grow sharper and sharper, she felt her snout elongating, her nose went wet, she felt her tail take on a much more tubular shape. Twilight passed out shortly afterwards.

When she woke up again, the first thing she saw was her legs. Her hooves had been replaced by paws with razor sharp nails on each toe. Twilight immediately shot up, looking around the room. Her friends were still asleep. She dashed towards a mirror and gazed into it. She saw a lavender wolf staring back at her. Her tail was now more wolf-ish, being purple with only the tip being pink, her body had slimmed down to the sleek body of a wolf, with her cutie mark was still in place, her mane was still the same.

Twilight nodded approvingly at her handiwork. She found a comfortable place to sit and waited for her friends to wake up and take a quick glance before she changed them back.

It wasn’t long until the rest of the elements woke up. When they did... they panicked, with only Pinkie Pie grinning like mad, all their body parts had changed and morphed, save for their manes and their colors. Twilight had eventually managed to calm them down. Once that was accomplished, she lowered her stance and prepared to cast another spell.

Except there was one tiny little problem.

Twilight tried to cast a spell but nothing happened. She tried again and nothing happened. She looked up and saw her friends staring at her. Rainbow rolled her eyes while Applejack yawned. Twilight panicked and back to the mirror. She finally noticed a very important detail.

Her horn was gone.

Gone.

Just like that.

No more.

Twilight fell on her rump and looked at her friends, who had just begun noticing their missing body parts, Rainbow Dash was frustrated about the disappearance of her wings, Rarity was whining about not being able to use magic while Applejack and Pinkie simply walked around trying to get accustomed to their new body.

“Girls, without my horn, I can’t cast a spell!”

“You don’t say?” Rainbow Dash said rather bemusedly.

Twilight ignored her and continued panicking.

“Quick! We’re going to need to get somepony else to change us back.”

“How’s about we get Spike to send the princess a letter?” Rarity asked

“Good idea! Girls, to the library!”

The six wolves exited the boutique and ran towards the library. It was rather weird at first, considering how fast they were now, as well as their strange new joints, but eventually the elements managed to get the hang of running in wolf form. They made their way to the library in no time with nopony else seeing them. The other five stayed outside while Twilight barged in and looked for her purple and green assistant. She found him arranging the books on the shelf.

     “Spike!”

The small dragon turned around and stumbled backwards, slamming himself into the bookshelf. His eyes were filled with shock, beads of sweat were forming on his face. He stared at Twilight with his mouth agape.

     “It’s me Twilight!”

The dragon seemed to be unable to hear his master. It was as if Twilight was speaking in a different language.

Suddenly his fear turned to annoyance.

“Get out of here you animal!”

     “But It’s me-”

The dragon blew forth a jet of green fire. Twilight dodged the green flames and tried to reason with her assistant.

     “But Spike it’s me! Twilight!”

“Would ya’ quit barking and just stay still?!”

Spike blew forth another tidal wave of flames, Twilight dodged it once more and tried her h-... I mean paw, at reasoning with the little dragon.

“Spike! I need you to send the Princess a letter!”

     “HOLD STILL!”

The dragon inhaled an unnaturally large amount of air, and he exhaled. A huge wall of green fire blazed and threatened to turn Twilight into fried wolf.

Twilight made a beeline for the door to avoid getting roasted alive. Twilight crashed through the wooden door, she ran towards the Everfree forest, her five friends in tow while the dragon still blew his flames.

Meet The Pack

Twilight and the gang ran as fast as they could, weaving in and out of trees. Twilight found her new body surprisingly agile. Much more agile than her pony body was. Eventually they arrived at the edge of a pond. The moonlight shone bright. The vague shape of Princess Luna was seen on the moon. Twilight and the gang stopped to try and catch their breath.

“Now what do we do?” Fluttershy asked

Just then, a navy blue mare came flying out from the sky. She had a blue mane alongside a tiara. The mare landed right in front of Twilight. it was Princess Luna.

“Princess Luna!” Twilight said in surprise

The elements were quick to bow, the alicorn motioned her hoof for them to stand again.

“At ease, Twilight.” The princess said

Twilight felt a tad bit weird. First, she hadn’t even told Luna about the whole spell incident. Second, she actually understood her, unlike Spike.

      “But, how did you-”

“Twilight, I am the princess of the night. I see all under the moon. As for understanding the tongue of the wolves, they do look up to the moon. Always howling at it, I am the second most worshipped goddess next to Lupa. The wolf goddess.”

      “Oh.”

Twilight and her friends simply stayed silent, the princess simply stared at them like nothing was wrong.

      “Um... Princess?”

“Yes, what is it that thee ask for?”

“Could you, um... Y’know, change us back?”

Luna stared at Twilight with a dead serious expression.

      “No.”

      “What?!”

“I’m sorry Twilight. But you’re my only chance at clearing the name of my followers. Not all ponies turn themselves into wolves willingly like you did.”

      “Your... followers?”

      “The wolves of course.”

“But their vicious! Their killers! Their-”

“*Sigh* I see thee too have been given the wrong perspective. You have been taking tests from my sister, very well. I shall give thee a test of my own. Clear the name of my followers. I shall give you one bit of advice to aid thee in thy quest, if you wish to survive, go North to the cave of the Brotherhood pack. Show the world that not all is what they seem.”

Luna nodded one more last time and took off. Heading back to the moon. Twilight simply stared at the alicorn as she made her way back to the ball of light.

      “Well?” Rainbow Dash asked

“We have no choice. Girls, time to make some new friends.”

Half an hour later...

The six wolves made their way North. They ended up at the mouth of a cave. It was dark inside. No light illuminated from the cavern. It was just a wall of darkness. Twilight gulped, looked back to face her friends and nodded. The five wolves looked scared save for Rainbow Dash. Twilight turned her attention back to the cave. She closed her eyes and forged on, her five friends in tow. Rainbow Dash was at the back, pushing Fluttershy in the cave since the timid mare was much too terrified to move.

Twilight and the gang eventually arrived at the center where the cave reached a dead end. Twilight stopped and so did her friends. The six... I guess a female wolf is called a she-wolf right? So, I guess the six she-wolves looked around. Looking for any signs of life.

Suddenly, a pair of eyes shone in the darkness. They were yellow with black slits. The elements huddled together save for Rainbow Dash who had gone in front and now was growling and snarling at the figure.

Then, another pair of eyes popped up. Then another, and another, slowly, they found themselves surrounded by wolves, only the entrance was unguarded where the only source of light shone through. No wolf dared step into the light.

“Show yourselves cowards!” Rainbow Dash barked

Nobody moved. Then a single wolf stepped into the light. His fur was purple and black, his eyes locked onto the six mares. Rainbow Dash kept her eyes focused on the wolf. He had a slim body, classic wolf style. Not too muscular, not too small, not too thin.

Rainbow Dash lunged at the wolf, but before she could reach him, another wolf leaped out from the crowd and tackled Dash in mid-air. The moonlight illuminated Dash’s attacker for a brief moment. His fur was blue and black, his body was more muscular than the wolf at the entrance. The wolf tackled Rainbow Dash and held her to the ground. Dash growled and snapped at her aggressor. The blue wolf simply bared his teeth and let out one deep growl. Dash instantly went silent.

The purple wolf stepped closer towards the five remaining she-wolves. Dash who was still under the blue wolf, struggled and tried to break free. But the wolf must’ve been way too strong for Rainbow to lift off her.

The purple wolf circled the five she-wolves and sniffed them. Once he was done he let out a bark and the cave blazed with light. It wasn’t very bright. The source of the light was a bunch of bonfires set up at the corners of the cave. The blue wolf came into full view. He had a muscular body and his eyes were yellow with blood red pupils. He growled at the already restrained Rainbow Dash.

The purple wolf barked at the blue one and he got off Rainbow. Rainbow Dash immediately got up and got in the blue wolf’s face, but she dared not attack. She walked backwards back to her friends, not letting her eyes wander off her attacker.

The purple wolf cleared his throat and walked up to the elements.

“Hi there, mind telling me why you’re here?”

Twilight stared at him, trying to form an excuse.

“W-we were exploring and came across this cave and decided to enter it.”

“Oh really?” The wolf said, circling them.

     “Um.. Y-yea.”

“That’s a small pack you got there.”

Twilight turned to face her friends. She turned back to the purple wolf who was inspecting them.

“Uh... yea. My name is Twilight Sparkle and these are my friends, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity and Pinkie Pie.”

The wolf stared at them before stopping and sitting in front of Twilight.

“Name’s Raycaster. That’s Backdraft, fastest one here.” Raycaster said while pointing a paw at the blue wolf. Backdraft nodded at the six newcomers, but it wasn’t out of kindness. His expression said: “Do any funny stuff and you’re on the menu.”

      “And that’s... Where’s Covert?”

A yellow and black wolf was thrown out from a cluster of wolves. He landed on his rump and immediately tried to push back into the crowds, Backdraft caught him before he could go back to hiding. He dragged the yellow wolf to the group and made sure he stood straight and that everyone could see him. He had a thin body with yellow and black eyes, similar to Raycaster’s

“Don’t be shy Covert. Just a couple of newbies. They’re just as scared as you.

       “Um... hi?”

Backdraft let Covert go and he immediately hid behind the big blue wolf. Backdraft rolled his eyes in annoyance.

      “Then we have Kenshin.”

A white and black wolf stepped out of the crowd. He had a body that resembled Raycaster’s. His fur was black and white, Twilight noticed that almost all the wolves had a bit of black. Kenshin walked out of the group, he looked cleaner than the rest of them.

“What’s up pretty boy?” Backdraft asked, a smug look on his face

“Well, at least I know a thing or two about personal hygiene. Unlike you...”

“Who needs hygiene? We’re gonna get ourselves dirty again anyways. It’s pointless to keep yourself clean.”

      “Well, I for one actually-”

      “Moving on.” Raycaster hastily said

Kenshin shrugged and took a seat next to Raycaster.

“Then there’s Atlasbreaker. The strongest one here.”

The crowd gave way for an orange and black wolf. He was incredibly buff. Much more muscular than Backdraft. He had black eyes with green pupils. He stared at the elements for a while, then went to take a seat next to Backdraft whom gave him a bro-paw. Raycaster gave him a nod, Kenshin did the same.

“Last but not least we have... Where’s Frenzy?”

All the wolves all had puzzled expressions on their faces. The look on Raycaster’s face told them that this was no laughing matter.

      “This is bad...” Raycaster muttered

Suddenly there was a flash of pink and black and a wolf was sitting right next to Raycaster. Raycaster stumbled back in surprise. His fur was mostly black instead of pink, his eyes twitched from time to time. And he himself twitched occasionally.

      “Present!” Frenzy said

Raycaster calmed himself down.

“So this is Frenzy. The most energetic, wildest wolf you’ll ever meet.”

      “No argument here.” Backdraft said

      “Indeed.” Kenshin said

“So, now that we’ve introduced ourselves, well, the more important ones mostly. Give us one good reason why we should let you walk out of here alive.”

Breaking The Ice

“What?!” Twilight Sparkle said in surprise

      “Well?”

“Why do you have to kill us?! I mean we didn’t do anything!”

“Your friend...” Raycaster pointed at Rainbow Dash “-tried to attack us. Unless she was trying to give me a really aggressive hug, she was going to kill me.”

Pinkie could hear Twilight gulp. She knew that her book worm friend was running out of excuses to feed the wild wolf.

“Well silly! because we wanted to join your pack!” Pinkie said

Raycaster turned his attention to Pinkie. She could feel the anger and annoyance that the purple wolf radiated. He stared at Pinkie with a steely gaze, Pinkie made a smile that reached from cheek to cheek, completely ignoring the fact that there was a vicious rabid animal that had the assets required to completely destroy a pony.

Raycaster stared at her and sized her up. He took a step back and gave a glance to his fellow wolves. Backdraft gave a “Whatever” kind of look. Covert was nowhere to be seen, probably hiding in the crowds, Kenshin was still sizing them up, probably trying to figure out who tasted better while Frenzy bounced around the walls occasionally letting out a maniacal laugh while Atlasbreaker watched him.

Raycaster turned his focus back to Pinkie. He cleared his throat and stood up straight.

“Very well. If you wish to join the pack, you shall go hunting to prove your worth. Bring back one deer carcass before sunrise. I shall send Backdraft and Frenzy to watch after you.”

Backdraft sighed and got up. Frenzy paid no attention and continued bouncing off the walls. Pinkie seemed to keep glancing back at Frenzy. The black and pink wolf was going to get along great with her. They were both energetic and random. Pinkie bounded out the cave with her friends while the two wolves followed closely behind, making sure that the newcomers would play by the rules.

Half an hour later...

Pinkie was bounding behind Fluttershy. Her puffy mane bounced around as she bounced along the path. Backdraft lazily followed them. He didn’t seem very fast. Frenzy on the other hand was zipping from tree to tree, not touching the ground below him at all. Pinkie watched as he zipped from a couple of trees and ended up beside her. Walking along casually. He seemed to have lost his energy but he was still twitching.

“Hi there!” Pinkie said with a smile

Frenzy had an insane look on his face, he was still twitching, he laughed like a maniac every five minutes.

“What’s up?” Frenzy said in incredible speed

“Oh nothing. just wanted to talk is all. My name’s Pinkie Pie.”

“Name’s Feeding Periclymus Frenzy. My family calls me Feeding Frenzy, my friends call me Frenzy.”

      “So, do you like parties?”

Frenzy’s insane demeanor immediately died down. He refused to look at Pinkie, he stared at the ground but he kept walking.

“I’ve never been to one before. Nor has anybody thrown me a party.”

“What about the others? Atlasbreaker? Backdraft? Raycaster? Covert? Kenshin? Can’t they throw you one?”

“Raycaster’s too serious for any form of festivities, Atlasbreaker’s too busy training or hunting, same goes too Backdraft except he’s usually too lazy to go, Covert is usually too shy and Kenshin’s too busy being a sissy.” Frenzy said in disgust

      “But they’re your friends!”

“Friends don’t exactly describe them. they’re like-”

Just then a deer zipped by, Backdraft was on the back of the deer, his claws dug deep into the animal. As he passed by, Pinkie could hear him cursing and swearing as the deer continued bounding, zipping in and out of the trees. Twilight and the others were much too terrified to move, save for Rainbow Dash who was hot on it’s heels.

“You- oh right.” Pinkie said, suddenly losing her cheerful attitude

“I know. I hate hunting just as much as you. I never scratch, claw or bite. Unless I have to protect myself, or defend something I like.”

Pinkie found herself taken aback by this sudden statement. Wolves had cemented their status as killers, savages. So it was quite the surprise when Frenzy told her that he despised hunting.

“But you’re a wolf, you’re supposed to hunt and kill.”

“That doesn’t mean I have to like it.” Frenzy snapped

Pinkie and Frenzy watched as Backdraft and Rainbow Dash continued wearing the animal down. Rainbow Dash was surprisingly unfazed with the killing of animals.

“Hey Backdraft! It might be a little more effective if you actually try and ATTACK the deer instead of humping it.” Frenzy yelled

“If you think it’s so easy, why don’t ya’ reschedule ya’ date and come on over and give me a paw!” Backdraft growled

“Nah. Your girlfriend is a much better hunter than I am.”

A few minutes passed, Backdraft continued attacking the animal, Rainbow Dash was still on the attack, biting the legs and sometimes the neck.

“Then why don’t you stop?” Pinkie asked

Frenzy stared at her with eyes filled with sadness. He sighed and continued talking.

“Have I ever told you about my uncle?”

      “Nope.”

“Well, he lived on Pandora. He’s alien-ish. He died when a bus of vault hunters ran over him.”

      “Oh...”

“He lived by a simple motto. There ain’t no rest for the wicked. There couldn’t be another line that describes my life as correctly as this one.”

Frenzy sighed deeply and sat down. Staring at the ground. He seemed so much more different now, he seemed sad, alone and just so pitiful. Not how you’d usually describe an insane wolf. Pinkie turned her attention back to the carcass of the deer. Backdraft and Rainbow Dash were arguing. Probably over who was the better hunter.

Twilight and the others were stunned. Fluttershy had fainted long before the deer died.

“Well, looks like you passed the test.” Frenzy said half heartedly

      “But we didn’t do anything.”

“The test was that you had to bring back the dead body of an animal. You girls managed to do so. It means we can at least co-exist with you.”

      “Oh.”

“So, welcome to the pack. Hope you like pain and misery.” Frenzy said half-heartedly

Pinkie was about to protest and say that joining the pack was gonna be fun until a roar was heard. Frenzy shot up, he was on alert mode. He scanned the surroundings. Pinkie Pie looked around and found out that they had lost their friends. Frenzy was about to say something until a full grown manticore burst out of some vegetation, roaring it’s head off.

“Are you fucking kidding me?!” Frenzy said

Controlled Frenzy

Pinkie was not thrilled to fight a manticore with a sad/psychotic social outcast. Frenzy lowered his stance and bared his teeth. He let out a menacing growl that did nothing to fend off the raving manticore. The manticore itself let out a roar and glared at Frenzy. He swiped his tail at Frenzy a couple of times, but he was definitely out of reach.

Frenzy made a wild charge towards the manticore and ended up biting him in the legs a couple of times. The manticore simply kicked the black and pink wolf back. Frenzy tumbled backwards and laid flat on his stomach. He immediately got up, let out another snarl and made another charge that bore the same results.

The wolf didn’t seem to be changing his tactic anytime soon. After getting kicked back for another half hour, Frenzy decided to take a different approach. The wolf leaped over the monster instead of charging straight into it. The manticore watched as the wolf passed by over head. Frenzy landed on the other side and turned to face his attacker. But the manticore however had turned it’s attention to elsewhere.

Pinkie Pie.

Pinkie backed up into a tree as the manticore slowly approached the pink she-wolf. Pinkie shut her eyes and waited for the beast to strike. But it didn’t.

“Yah bedder ferget bout layin yer pawsh on her!” Frenzy growled with the manticore’s tail between his teeth.

Pinkie opened his eyes and found Frenzy tugging at the manticore, trying to get him away from her. The manticore lifted his tail with Frenzy still hanging on to it. The manticore swung his tail and the jet black wolf was flung into a tree. He whimpered and stayed still, not moving. The manticore turned it’s attention back to the pink she-wolf that stood before him.

Pinkie shut her eyes as beads of sweat started to form on her face. The manticore bounded towards her and pounced. Pinkie whispered a silent prayer for something, someone to save her.

Her prayers were answered. Just before the manticore hit her, a streak of blue and black crashed into the manticore. The manticore slid on the ground as the figure stood on top of it. It was Backdraft. He leaned in and took a great big bite out of the manticore’s neck. The manticore struggled for a while before going limp.

Backdraft got off the dead carcass. His mouth was coated in blood. He looked at the manticore one more last time before walking towards the motionless Frenzy. Backdraft looked at the motionless body of his friend and nudged it with his snout a couple of times.

      “Yo buddy, you okay?”

Frenzy slowly stood up. Blood trickled out of his mouth, his breathing was heavy but the wolf managed to suppress a weak smile.

“Yea sure. Probably not gonna be walking for a while though.”

“Damn, you have to be either the stupidest or the bravest wolf I’ve ever met. Most wolves would never do anything that stupid.”

“Well, most wolves aren’t like me.”

Frenzy slowly rose, he stumbled but Backdraft caught him before he could fall.

“Yo easy, easy. I got ya.” Backdraft said

Frenzy stood up and leaned on Backdraft. The two began walking towards the location that Backdraft had earlier burst out of. Pinkie followed closely behind. Not daring to talk, things like a manticore attack tend to leave you speechless. Shortly afterwards they came across the rest of the elements. They immediately circled Pinkie and gave her a big hug. Thankful that she wasn’t dead.

Her friends asked her a bucket load of questions, but Pinkie didn’t answer. Her friends eventually left her alone to get over her shock. Pinkie hadn’t even realized it when they reached the cave. The group of wolves made their way inside where Raycaster and the others were waiting.

“Well? Where’s the carcass?” Raycaster asked

      “About that...” Backdraft said

“*sigh* What’s your excuse this time?”

“Our friend here...” Backdraft motioned his head to Frenzy whom was lying on the stone floor. He flashed the group a mischievous grin.. “-decided to pick a fight with a manticore.”

“But did you catch and kill a deer?”

      “Hell yea I did.”

Raycaster turned his attention to the elements. Pinkie could tell that he wasn’t exactly ecstatic.

“I guess that counts. Welcome to the pack, don’t break the rules and you’ll be fine.” Raycaster said

“Um... What exactly are the rules?” Twilight asked

“Rule number one, never ever disobey your senior’s commands and always follow them.”

      “Senior?”

“I’ll assign you to them later on. Rule number two, never and I mean never go out unless you have permissions from me, Backdraft or the others.”

      “Ok. And?”

“The final rule. No fighting amongst each other.”

“I think we can live with that.”

Raycaster turned his attention back to the rest of the pack.

      “Gather around.” Raycaster said

Immediately all the wolves surrounded him. With only his back clear of any spectators.

“So today I got the response from Sparkjump about the recruits.”

A hawk immediately flew in the cave with a piece of paper in it’s claws. It dropped the paper at Raycaster’s paws and landed close to Covert.

      “Aaaaaaaaaaaaand?” Backdraft asked

      “They declined.”

All the wolves argued and grumbled, obviously annoyed. Raycaster waited for them to settle down before continuing to speak.

      “Aw c’mon!” Backdraft groaned

“Now, now. Maybe next time.” Raycaster said

“Next time? How many times have you told us that?”

      “Um... let’s see-”

“We’re busting our chops here! We need help and we need help now!”

“I’m sorry Backdraft. Sparkjump’s word is law.”

      “What about Brimstone? Riptide?”

      “I don’t know.”

“How about RainbowWolf? Pyromaniac? Eurobeat? Flaming Gem? Inferno Heart? Sketchy Markks? Executioner? Crashing Star? Blue Streak? Quicksilver? Gyvon?”

“I don’t know! Even if the whole Wolf House did say yes, Sparkjump outranks them all.”

“Tell him we need help and we need help NOW!”

By now Backdraft and Raycaster were face to face. Neither one of them seemed too set on the idea of backing down.

“I’ll tell you once and only once Backdraft.” Raycaster said in a calm voice, but his eyes blazed with anger. “Sparkjump said no.”

Backdraft groaned and took a step back. Raycaster calmed down and continued.

“And also, we have six new recruits.”

Raycaster pointed at the elements. Pinkie felt all eyes turn to her and her friends.

“So, they’re going to need a senior to look out for them.”

Raycaster pointed at Applejack first.

      “You, what’s your name?”

      “N-name’s Applejack.”

      “You’ll be going with Atlasbreaker.”

Atlasbreaker made his way over to AJ and sat down.

“Next, ah! You. The pink one.”

Pinkie had recovered from her shock. She was back to her cheerful state of mind. She wore a smile that reached from ear to ear.

       “Yes?” Pinkie asked

      “You’ll be going with Frenzy.”

Pinkie bounded over to the battered black and pink wolf. she lied down so that they were both at eye level.

      “Hiya!”

“Looks like you’ll be rolling with me. Don’t think I could teach you anything right now though.”

Pinkie watched as the rest of her friends were assigned seniors. Rainbow Dash was assigned to Backdraft which she didn’t seem too happy about. Fluttershy was supposed to go with a pure black wolf by the name of Soleks but they quickly found out that it wasn’t going to work, so they assigned Covert to her instead. Rarity was going with Kenshin since she kept insisting. And Twilight was going with Raycaster since everybody else either already had a protege, or because they were too inexperienced.

“That’s all for today. Now, you have five more minutes until free roam. Remember, Freewing Alchemist, you and Veonetric are on guard duty alongside TwiceMarked and Hydrawolf.”

“Got it.” A voice from the crowds said

Pinkie waited and soon enough, everyone rushed out the cave in pairs, all going in separate directions. Her friends were probably following their seniors too. After all it is the rules. No one was left save for Frenzy and Pinkie Pie.

Pinkie turned her attention to the wounded wolf. Frenzy suppressed a weak smile.

“So where were we again?” Frenzy asked

Grimlock

Rainbow Dash was not happy about being turned into a wolf, it was weird at first but she got used to the controls eventually. She was still pretty irked that Twilight had turned them all into vicious blood-thirsty creatures. She was even more discontent with the fact that she got Backdraft as a senior. As the both of them roamed through the woods, Rainbow Dash and Backdraft kept silent. Until Backdraft decided to make small talk.

“So, you’re not bad at huntin’. For a newbie that is.” Backdraft said

Rainbow Dash was all too familiar with hunting, back then, she would go with Gilda all the time. Though she never devoured the animals she definitely got used to watching them get brutally murdered. Things like having a griffin for a friend tend to get you ready for things like seeing the woodland critters get completely decimated.

“Of course I’m good! What did you expect?”

      “That you’d get yourself killed.”

Rainbow Dash pouted and looked at Backdraft. The big blue and black wolf simply stared at her with a calm expression. Completely unfazed by the anger that Rainbow Dash shared towards her.

“Has anyone ever told you that you look incredibly cute when you’re mad?” Backdraft said in the calmest of voices

Rainbow Dash turned her attention back to the path in front of her. She continued walking in silence. Eventually she decided to have a little chat and know her new senior a bit better.

“So, how good are you at hunting?”

Backdraft’s eyes lit up. He stood a little straighter, his posture looked a bit more grand. more powerful.

      “Well, I’m awesome of course.”

“Really? Didn’t look really look like that when we went out for the deer.” Rainbow Dash asked

Backdraft cleared his throat and placed a paw on his chest.

“This here is what you call domination, It’s a combination of skill and concentration.”

Backdraft began to circle Rainbow Dash. She kept her gaze on him at all times.

“So, what makes YOU so special?” Dash asked

“I’m stronger, go harder, I’m a monster. I conquer, dominate anything I want to. My passion, my skill, my focus, my hunger, just to put it simple I’m number one.”

      “Okay...”

“Yes I, just want it more than the next guy. And no, you can’t do the things that I’m gonna do. Real aggressive, real rough around the edges, a man on a mission smashin’ the competition.”

Rainbow Dash ignored the blue wolf as he continued rambling on about how great he was. Backdraft’s fellow wolves eventually came to the mind of the cyan blue she-wolf.

“So, your friends...” Rainbow Dash began

“Hmm, Atlasbreaker is pretty awesome. I mean he’s not as fast as me but damn, he can bite. Frenzy is kinda cool, seems a bit wacky but cool. Covert’s a freak, that guy can’t stand even a bit of animal abuse. No killing, no scratching. Jeez that guy is a wimp. Kenshin’s just a big wussy that sits around licking his non-existant wounds. And then there’s Raycaster...”

Rainbow Dash could hear the anger in his voice as he said the name: “Raycaster”. It was clear that their relationship wasn’t exactly warm.

“What’s wrong with Raycaster?” Rainbow Dash asked

      “Raycaster... He’s the pack leader.”

      “And?”

“I dunno. He’s a horrible one. We’ve been asking for help and so far no one did anything. Sometimes he’s awesome, sometimes I wonder why they didn’t choose me to be pack leader instead.” Backdraft said with every word oozing with fury.

“You? Pack leader? Don’t make me laugh. Seriously what makes you think that you can take Raycaster’s place-” Rainbow Dash smirked

“I’d make a great one! We’d be the ultimate wolf pack! Even the Wolf House wouldn’t be as awesome as us. But noooooo! Instead Raycaster was elected and now we’re stuck spreading our troops too thin. I’d be the best pack leader there ever was, heck I was the leader of the greatest wolf pack that ever existed.  We were unstoppable, the Wolf House always turned to us when there was no other wolf left, we were the best of the best, until...” Backdraft said

Rainbow Dash fell silent. Her opinion of Backdraft had done a complete 180. Backdraft was still seething with anger. His eyes glowed with absolute hatred, yet in the same time there was a bit of sadness and pain amongst all that anger. Backdraft shut his eyes and took deep breaths. He calmed himself down and continued talking.

“Anyways, all-in-all, I hate Raycaster. Everyone knows that I’m stronger, smarter. Raycaster’s nothing but a pretty boy who plays commander. He never hunts, he’s the protege of Sparkjump himself and I still haven’t seen that poser hunt. All he does is organize, organize, and what else? Oh right! ORGANIZE!” Backdraft said in disgust

Rainbow Dash kept silent while Backdraft’s heavy breathing was the only audible source of sound save for some rustling. Backdraft calmed himself down from downright mad to irked.

“C’mon. We gotta go check on the pups.” Backdraft mumbled

Rainbow Dash didn’t object. She silently followed Backdraft to the outskirts of Ponyville. Eventually they reached an area that was just right for keeping surveillance on the town.

      “Fall-in!” Backdraft yelled

Eventually two wolves burst out from a nearby clearing and stood in front of Backdraft, their paws just on top of their eyes in some kind of salute.

“Freewing Alchemist and Veonetric reporting for duty sir!” One of the wolves said

The wolf on the left was a mixture of orange, grey, brown and black. The top of his snout was orange while the rest of him was a mixture of grey, brown and black. The wolf on the right was black and blue, mostly black. A dark blue ribbon like pattern ran down his side.

      “Anything to report?”

      “No sir!”

      “Good. Carry on.”

The wolves scurried off, Backdraft sighed and turned around. He headed back into the forest with Rainbow Dash following close behind.

“So, what exactly do you guys do?” Dash asked

      “Tell you later.”

Rainbow Dash kept silent after that. In her head, a million thoughts clouded her head. One of these many thoughts was how in the hay she was going to get transformed back into a pony. She was okay with being a wolf, but she would much rather have her wings and hooves back.

“Wanna race?” Backdraft asked, a sly grin on his face

“Oh you are SO on.” Rainbow Dash replied, equally excited

Outcast

Fluttershy had mixed feelings about being a wolf. On one hoof, she was an animal herself and by being a wolf she would learn so much more about the animal kingdom, so much more to discover. But on the other hoof, she was going to have to kill and eat animals if she wanted to live. Not exactly her cup of tea.

She had chosen Covert as her senior because, Soleks scared her. He was big black and would occasionally snap at other wolves. He was about as hostile as wolves get. Fluttershy was definitely not going to survive had she been paired up with a wolf like Soleks.

She had chosen Covert because both of them were shy. They’d get along no problem, but whether he liked animals or not was still a question that required an answer. As they exited the cave, Fluttershy kept silent, not daring to face her new senior. Covert himself too kept quiet.

Fluttershy walked alongside Covert, she was doing just fine until next to her, a bush rustled. Fluttershy let out an “Eep!” and practically leaped into Covert. The black and yellow stood unfazed, instead he was rather amused. A small brown rodent burst out the vegetation and scuttled away. Covert let out a small chuckle and comforted the pale yellow mare.

“Yea, the forest is kinda scary on your first time.” Covert said

Fluttershy got off the black and yellow wolf. She blushed a little and continued walking. Soon enough, the timid mare inquired about Covert’s ally’s.

“So, um... How are your friends?” Fluttershy managed to ask

Covert immediately went sad. He hung his head low enough so that a shadow was casted over his eyes, preventing them from being seen.

“I don’t have friends.” Covert whispered

      “Oh, w-what about Backdraft?”

Covert looked up and in his eyes she could see a level pain and sadness that was beyond measure. Fluttershy kept quiet. Not daring to utter another word.

“They all treat me like a freak. Because I can talk to monsters.”

Fluttershy looked up and stared into the eyes of Covert.

“They treat me like an outcast because I love animals. Because I can communicate with them, because I think that there’s no need for violence. For years they’ve insulted me. They say I’m not a wolf because I can’t hunt. I could never imagine myself eating another animal.”

“Then how are you still alive?” Fluttershy asked

“I drink water. I don’t eat but I just drink.”

      “Oh...”

Covert grabbed Fluttershy by her supposed shoulders, his eyes shone in the moonlight.

“Do you know how painful it is? To be rejected by my own kind simply because I’m a bit different. They hurt me, mentally, emotionally, physically, because I’m not like them.” Covert said with sadness practically covering every word.

Fluttershy knew exactly how it was like. Back in Flight Academy she had been bullied by her fellow pegasi because she couldn’t fly, because she was too timid. She knew exactly what Covert was talking about.

“Actually, I can relate.” Fluttershy murmured

Covert looked up, tears were already streaming down his face.

“Oh really?” Covert wiped his tears and sniffled

      “Um... Yes.”

      “So what did you do?”

      “I moved. I ran away.”

“I wish I could do the same.” Covert mumbled

      “Why not?”

“Everybody knows that a wolf is dead as soon as he leaves the pack. He’s vulnerable. He won’t have any friends.”

      “What’s the difference?”

      “Pardon?”

“You don’t have any friends now. I-I mean you said so yourself, a-and-”

      “Your right.” Covert said

      “I am?”

      “I guess so.”

Fluttershy kept silent. Covert simply sat there, not moving an inch. Covert sniffled and finally looked up. There was still sadness in his eyes, but Covert suppressed a weak smile.

“Let’s get going shall we?” Covert asked

Half an hour later...

Covert and Fluttershy were walking through the forest. They spotted two wolves up ahead who seemed to be arguing.

“Better break this up.” Covert sighed

As they approached the two wolves, their conversation became much clearer.

“-they’re coming Alekusu and you know it.”

“No way! Condrus, you’ve gone mad. There’s no way the Wolf House would send someone over.”

“What about the recruits? Someone’s gotta check them out.”

“I mean yea, but they’ll send someone like Executioner, Pyromaniac or maybe Crashing Star. But the big three are never gonna move from their seats.”

“They just might. I mean six recruits in one day. That’s a new record.”

“So? I heard the Hellfire clan had 14 new recruits once.”

“And the big three came to check them out. Why not us?”

The two wolves continued bickering. The supposed “Alekusu” was black and had fiery yellow flame designs that decorated his whole body. The second wolf, Condrus, was green, but it faded into blue towards the back end of his body.

      “Um.. Guys?” Covert muttered

“They’d never set foot on a wolf pack as pathetic as ours!”

“Exactly! They’ll come to give us some tips!”

      “Um... Guys?”

      “As if!”

      “Dude think about it-”

      “GUYS!”

The two wolves were stunned by the sudden aggression that had been put into Covert’s voice.

“Why don’t we all stop arguing, and just get along?” Covert said, with a bit of irritation still in his voice

The two wolves apologized and ran off, not daring to do anything else that would’ve offended Covert. The yellow wolf sighed and watched the two wolves scurry off. He remained still until a bush rustled nearby. Covert’s ears twitched. He went on alert mode and looked around.

A fox burst out of a bush nearby. he was fiery red with a portion of him being grey and black.

“Oh it’s you Polygrammar.” Covert said

“Nice to see you to Covert.” The fox replied

“What are you doing out here?”

“Well, being a journalist I’ve gotta find inspiration one way or another.”

      “Can’t argue with you.”

“Anyway if you must, I should be going now.”

The fox ran off in the opposite direction that the two wolves had run off to. Covert simply watched. Fluttershy was feeling a tad bit uncomfortable with the silence that occupied the air.

“Y’know what Fluttershy? You’re not that bad.” Covert said

      “Really?”

      “Yea I guess.”

Fluttershy and Covert locked eyes. Both of them uttered no sound. The world around them seemed to dissolve with their focus primarily on each other.

Suddenly, there was a flash of blue and black followed by a streak of cyan blue and a rainbow. Covert stumbled backwards while Fluttershy squeaked and backed up.

Cold

Applejack was panicked. She was generally worried about how she was going to be a pony again. How she was ever going to go back to her apple farm. Would she ever be able to see her family again?

As for her senior, he seemed nice enough. Atlasbreaker was the kind of what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of wolves. He had no supposed past, nothing. As they walked through the woods, Applejack decided to be a bit more social with her new mentor.

      “So, how’re y’all?”

“Good, good. Not much happenin’. At least not yet.”

Atlasbreaker spoke with a Manehattan kind of accent.

“So, what are we s’posed to do?”

“Well sweetheart, first we gotta go check on the pups. Check the guardin’ positions, make sure them chuckle heads ain’t fooling around.”

for some reason, Atlasbreaker reminded Applejack of those marefia mobsters she usually saw on TV. The way they called almost every mare “sweetheart” and that strong Manehattan accent. She could almost imagine him smoking a cigar, donning a hat, a suit with maybe a couple of henchmen by his side. He truly did have the kind of “Godfather” kind of feel to him.

“Has anybody ever told ya’ that you look like a mobster?” Applejack asked

“I get that alot. That’s why they gave me the nickname: “The Dogfather”.”

      “Well, that’s mighty fine I s’pose?”

“Sure it is sweetheart! You’re hanging with the don. You’re the protege of The Dogfather himself. Why wouldn’t this be good?”

“Say, you mind tellin’ me what time it is?”

Atlasbreaker stared at the moon for a while before answering.

“Yea, a little afta three, unless da moon’s broke again.”

Applejack was confused a little. It was three in the morning. Under normal circumstances she would’ve fallen asleep by now.

      “Hey, youse alright?”

      “I’m fine sugarcube.”

“Had me goings for a while there. Anyways, we best be goin’. We’re burning moonlights.”

Applejack didn’t argue. She followed her senior as he made his way through the woods. He eventually made his way to a clearing.

      “Boys!” Atlasbreaker yelled

Immediately three wolves burst out of nowhere. They surrounded both Atlasbreaker and AJ. One of the wolves was beige, some parts of him looked like roaring flames that were tipped with black. Another wolf was mostly green but he had a mixture of red and yellow in his coat color. The last wolf was blue but his tail and some parts of him were fiery red.

      “So, got anythin’ to report?”

      “Nothin boss.”

      “Pyrefly?”

      “Nope.” The beige wolf replied

      “How’s about you Werebrony?”

      “Nothin.” The green wolf replied

“What kind of a name is Werebrony? Anyways what about you Feather Book?”

      “Zilch.” The blue wolf replied

“I s’pose that’s good. Less work for us”

Atlasbreaker motioned for them to go. They took off and left AJ and her senior alone. Atlasbreaker sighed and continued walking.

      “So, how’re yer friends?”

“My friends? Yea they’re pretty good. I mean, Covert’s a bit squeamish and all but damn that guy is sneaky. Then there’s Kenshin, before you realize it you’re dead, this guy makes sure it’s fast, quiet, clean. Frenzy is just insane, I like that, kids got a lot of energy. Backdraft’s a pretty cool guy, then there’s Raycaster.”

      “What ‘bout Raycaster?”

“I mean he’s a good leader and all but I think I can do better. And then Backdraft want’s to be pack leader too, ha! As if it’s ever gonna work.”

“Whadya mean? he’s your friend why dont’ya think he can do it?”

“Backdraft’s a great friend, not a great leader. There’s a reason why his old pack fell apart.”

      “His old pack?”

“You wanna hear the story you go ask him, capice?”

      “Um yea.”

      “So anyways- Who’s that?”

Applejack turned her attention to where Atlasbreaker was looking. She saw a blue wolf with a light blue stripe running down his side. He was sitting and simply stargazing. He paid Atlasbreaker no attention.

“Blue Streak, is that you?” Atlasbreaker asked

The blue wolf turned and looked at Atlasbreaker.

      “Well, duh?”

“Ain’t you s’pose to be at the Wolf House? I mean, you’re an alpha.”

“Well, we alpha’s gotta get outta the house once in awhile amirite?”

      “But, why?”

“To get away from the other wolves. RainbowWolf specifically. Man that guy can pull a prank.”

“But why come here? Out of all the packs.”

“Yea, Why did I come here? Oh right! Listen, the Wolf House is gonna send a few alpha’s here to check the recruits.”

      “Who’re they sending?”

“I’ll give you six possibilities. Only four of these six are coming. RainbowWolf, Pyromaniac, Executioner, Inferno Heart, Crashing Star and Gyvon.”

      “So, when’re they coming?”

      “I guess ‘morrow morning.”

“Well, thanks for the heads up.”

      “No prob.”

Atlasbreaker walked away, heading for the cave. Applejack followed close behind, unaware of Atlasbreaker’s plans.

      “So, where are y’all headed?”

      “Back to the cave.”

      “Why?”

“To go to sleep. The alphas always come by 8 or 9. Might as well get some shuteye.”

“But didn’t Blue Streak say they were coming tomorrow morning ‘stead?”

“The Wolf House are huge trolls. I ain’t takin’ any chances.”

Applejack simply followed him. In a matter of minutes, they had arrived at the cave. Atlasbreaker walked in followed by Applejack. Pinkie and Frenzy watched them.

      “Back so soon?” Frenzy asked

“Nah not much to do. Anyways some alphas are gonna come down to take a quick look. Better hit the hay a bit earlier t’night.”

“Aww, I didn’t want to sleep tonight. Well, goodnight then.”

Frenzy settled down and tried to fall asleep. Pinkie Pie too tried to doze off. She was sleeping quite close to Frenzy. The black and pink wolf didn’t seem to mind at all. Atlasbreaker slept alone. Applejack followed the same initiative and curled up into a ball. The cave was cold so sleeping was near impossible.

       “Hey.”

Applejack turned to the source of the voice. It was Atlasbreaker.

      “Yea?”

“Why so anti-social? C’mon over. I got plenty of space.”

Applejack felt a little blood rush to her face but she didn’t object. She walked over to Atlasbreaker and curled up into a ball. Atlasbreaker rested his head on the curled form of AJ, soon enough, the two wolves had fallen asleep.

Petulant Pansy

Rarity was scared. She wanted this over with so she could just change back into a pony and continue living her average life as usual. But now, she’s forced to live the life of a predator. To hunt, fight and kill instead of staying inside her safe boutique, away from the forces of nature. She would have to go for days without make-up, absolutely nothing.

The only good side to all of this was Kenshin. He seemed to be the cleanest wolf there and it was only natural that she chose him. Rarity walked along with Kenshin as he made his way through the woods. It actually wasn’t as dense once you got deep into it.

“So, remind me, what exactly are we doing again?”

“The pups always break into fights. Up to me and Covert to break ‘em up.”

      “Why you and Covert?”

“Well, because Frenzy would make things worse by creeping them out until they’re forced to hug each other for comfort, Atlasbreaker would probably kill one of them instead of resolving the issue just to make it simple, Raycaster’s too busy and Backdraft would probably declare martial law.”

      “Oh.”

Rarity kept quiet and only followed her senior. He didn’t look like much, but he had that kind of quiet power to him, like a coiled snake. He could strike at anytime. He held no scars, no bruises, no wounds, he was clean. Yet, Rarity couldn’t help but shake the feeling of malice she felt whenever she was near him.

“So, do you ever go hunting?” Rarity asked

      “Oh hell yes.”

“But- But didn’t the others say-?”

“They said I couldn’t hunt, they didn’t say anything about me hating it.”

      “Then how do you hunt?”

“Hiding in the shadows, silently waiting for the perfect time to strike. Saves me all the energy and time. Who wants to get all bloody anyways?”

      “Oh.”

“It certainly saves me the trouble from getting the twigs and leaves off my coat. And don’t even get me started on the mud.”

Rarity found this topic quite relatable. Being the only fashionista in Ponyville, her friends would usually tease her about being obsessed with her image.

“I know! People simply don’t understand how hard it is to maintain the smoothness and the texture.”

“Exactly! They say a simple brush will do. Ha! If only they knew.”

The two white wolves continued discussing the proper ways of hygiene, the best way to remove mud, and during the course of that, they found out that they had a lot more in common. They were soon interrupted by the sound of two voices clearly arguing.

“*sigh* These hooligans truly can’t get along for even a minute.”

Kenshin walked towards the sound of the argument. It became much more audible as they approached the two wolves. One of the voices was clearly a she wolf.

“I’m telling you Alekusu! Werewolves are real!”

“You’re in over your head Asfrasle. They’re just old and fake mythology. Did I mention you have a strange name?”

“Shut up. But seriously think about it, they can stand on two legs, have huge claws, can tear things apart, have incredible strength and have no weaknesses!”

Alekusu was black and fiery yellow. Apparently he loved to argue. His new victim was a slim black wolf with a green zig-zag running down his side.

“They can be killed by silver.”

“Well, yea. I mean my day would be messed up too if you stabbed me in the eye with a silver fork..”

      “*sigh* When will you learn?”

      “I’m dead serious!”

“I don’t care how serious you are! You’ve gone completely insane!”

“I’m tellin’ ya, they’re out there.”

Kenshin cleared his throat. The two wolves stopped arguing. Kenshin raised an eyebrow. The two wolves hung their heads. Not daring to look up. They slowly walked away, heads hung low. Kenshin sighed.

“I wish my brethren would just stop quarreling. Everynight I have to come out and resolve problem after problem. It’s really starting to get tiring.”

“What do you guys do anyways?”

      “Well, we pro-”

Kenshin was cut short by a wolf that burst out of the clearing and crashed into him. Kenshin groaned as the big blue and black wolf rose off the ground. Seemingly unfazed.

      “Hehe.” Backdraft chuckled

      “Not. Cool.” Kenshin groaned

The blue wolf helped his white friend up to his paws. Soon enough Rainbow Dash to came out.

“Rainbow! What a delight to see you.” Rarity exclaimed

“Rarity? didn’t expect to see you here.”

The two girls stood aside while their seniors too decided to stop for a chat.

“So how is your senior? He seems like a nice fellow.”

      “Yea he’s pretty awesome. Yours?”

“Simply delightful! He taught me so many new things! He told me how certain leaves could keep your-”

“Well, sounds like you two are going to be the best of friends.”

“Well great minds do think alike.”

The two she wolves continued chatting. Eventually both had to part ways. Rarity and her senior Kenshin continued tromping through the woods. Kenshin suddenly stopped and looked up. He had a big goofy grin as he pointed a paw at the top of a nearby cliff. On the cliff stood two wolves that were barely visible.

Raycaster and Twilight.

“Awww, Ray Ray really does have a soft side to him! And all this time I thought he was just an emotionless machine.” Kenshin chuckled

“Is that Twilight? I didn’t think she was one for romance.”

The two showed no signs in attraction towards one another but even just the thought of his stone cold pack leader near a she-wolf, in such a romantic spot such as a clifftop illuminated by the moonlight was enough to plaster a smile on Kenshin’s face.

“I’ve been waiting SO long to see this.” Kenshin said

“Doesn’t happen very often, does it?”

      “Once in a blue moon!”

Rarity watched as Raycaster continued talking to Twilight. They weren’t exactly kissing or cuddling but just the thought of seeing more of them together was enough to convince Rarity that being a wolf had it’s share of ups and downs.

Dark Knights

Twilight was not too excited about being a wolf. She was not happy at all. And the fact that she was the reason her and her friends were stuck in this mess seemed to weigh quite heavily on her mind. Raycaster was silent. Twilight tried to make small talk but failed miserably, Raycaster’s replies were short and quick. He wouldn’t delve into too much detail unless Twilight asked him to.

     “So, how’s it going?”

     “Good.”

     “How are your friends?”

     “Fine.”

“No, I meant what do you think of them?”

Raycaster exhaled deeply before talking again.

“I don’t know. I have mixed feelings. Frenzy, a great little ball of energy with only his own preferences weighing him down. If only he was as enthusiastic as the others when it comes to hunting. Atlasbreaker, a natural leader, but he’s smart enough to know not to try and take my place. At least not yet. Then there’s Backdraft, a once great hunter with a troubled past. Honestly, if me and Backdraft had a fight, he’d win, he thinks he can be a better pack leader, and I believe him, but there’s a reason why Project Vortex fell apart. He’s the last of his breed, and to be honest, I feel kinda bad for him, all alone with none of your friends, could you imagine? Then there’s Covert, bless his poor soul. He’s great with animals, he’s the only one they don’t run away from. And last but not least, Kenshin. He’s great when it comes to stealth, and he likes hunting. So, I’m kinda neutral on him.”

      “Um...”

Raycaster rarely expressed emotion. He walked through the forest. Absolutely no other wolves were around. Raycaster paid this fact no attention and instead continued walking as if he was used to being alone. Raycaster eventually led Twilight to a clifftop overlooking Ponyville.

“What do you do anyways?” Twilight asked

Raycaster’s eyes were glued on the city as he responded.

      “We protect.”

      “Protect who?”

Raycaster motioned his head towards the lit up town of Ponyville.

      “Them.”

      “Ponyville?!”

“Of course. Who do you think keeps the monsters away?”

      “But-but?”

Twilight’s understanding of the wolves had pulled the e-brake, did a 180 and sped off in the opposite direction.

“Why you ask? Because, long ago, we wolves were known for being noble, majestic creatures. Until that one day, one idiot just had to go and murder a pony. Why? Even we still don’t know. From that day onwards we were labeled as cold-blooded killers. With no mission in mind except to kill, kill, and kill. For years and years to come we’ve been watching after the citizens of this small town, in hope of clearing our name. And yet we have made no progress. But still everyday, we hunt, we protect. And still we’re the monsters. Why? Because we can take it. Because seeing them living their lives undeterred is a reward all on it’s own. We’re not heroes. We’re silent guardians. Watchful protectors. Dark knights.”

Twilight tried to talk but no words escaped her mouth. She was still too stunned by her new discovery to talk. All this time, she had gotten it all so wrong.

“Well, I think we’re dangerously close to dawn. Time to go to sleep.” Raycaster said

Twilight could only nod. She still hadn’t gained control of her lips yet. She followed Raycaster back to the cave. Before they could even begin Kenshin and Rarity popped out of nowhere. Kenshin had a huge smile on his face, even Rarity had a small smile.

      “Oh hey there Kenshin.”

Kenshin was trying hard to try and hold in his laughter.

      “What’s so funny?” Raycaster asked

      “Oh I think you know.”

Raycaster thought for a while before replying. I’m pretty confident that an alpha as smart as him will surely-

      “I don’t.”

Nevermind.

      “C’mon Ray Ray.” Kenshin teased

      “What?”

Kenshin looked at Twilight. Then Raycaster. Then Twilight again. Then Raycaster, then Twilight. He finally caught on.

“It wasn’t like that.” Raycaster protested

      “Sure it wasn’t.” Kenshin teased

      “Shut up.”

The two seniors walked in front while Twilight and Rarity followed behind.

“So, how is he?” Rarity asked

      “Well, he’s a great senior.”

“Not as a senior, as someone closer.”

      “Rarity!”

“Darling, you know you want him.”

      “No I don’t!”

“Twilight, you don’t sound so sure yourself.”

Rarity was right. When Twilight looked at Raycaster, she saw a noble wolf that she respected. But alongside that respect was another kind of feelling...

      “No!”

During the whole journey back Rarity kept teasing Twilight, unaware that their seniors too were stuck in the same predicament.

“C’mon Ray Ray, stop lying to yourself.”

      “Kenshin you’ve gone insane.”

“It seems to me YOU have gone insane. You’re battling your own thoughts, self denial.”

Kenshin then proceeded to keep poking Raycaster repeatedly.

      “AdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmitit”

      “No.”

      “AdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmitit”

“I said no the last time, what makes you think this time’ll be any different?”

      “AdmititAdmititbecauseyoureannoyedAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmititAdmitit”

In one swift move, Raycaster had Kenshin on the ground and one paw on his neck.

“Have I ever told you the definition of insanity? Insanity is doing the same fucking thing again and again, expecting shit to change. THAT is crazy.”

      “Okayokayokayokayokayokayokayokayokayokaypleasedontkillme.”

“At first I thought that it was bullshit, until you came into my life.”

Raycaster let Kenshin go. The white wolf coughed and gagged.

“Lighten up man. It was just a joke.” Kenshin complained

Half an hour later...

The four wolves had finally arrived at the cave. Inside, Atlasbreaker and Applejack were together in a corner, sleeping ever so peacefully. A few feet away from them was a sleeping Frenzy and Pinkie.

“See? Even a tough guy like Atlasbreaker has to soften up once in awhile.” Kenshin pointed out

Raycaster groaned.

“C’mon! They look so cute together.”

Raycaster growled. Kenshin shut up.

“I see Covert and Backdraft isn’t back yet.” Raycaster murmured

“Well, some of us do ENJOY the company of our new juniors.” Kenshin said

Raycaster gave Kenshin a “seriously bro?” kind of look. Kenshin simply shrugged in response.

“Well, I ain’t gonna argue. But if they fall asleep tomorrow night, somebody’s gonna get it.” Raycaster warned

Kenshin found a comfortable spot and curled up into a ball. Ready to sleep. Rarity followed and fell asleep herself.

Raycaster and Twilight too fell asleep, but unlike the others, there was some distance in between them, not daring to give Kenshin even more evidence.

The next morning, when Raycaster woke up, the first thing he saw was the face of a black wolf looking down at him.

      “Yo what’s up?”

Meet Pyromaniac (And RW)

Raycaster was quite stunned by the sudden appearance of this new black wolf. In a blink of an eye he was up and on his feet, and in then just milliseconds later, he had the black wolf on the floor with a paw on his neck. The wolf simple stared back with a smug look.

“Now now is that any way to treat your alpha?” The black wolf asked

Raycaster let the black wolf go. He rubbed his neck and rose up. He was completely black with a rainbow running down both his sides. His eyes were chocolate brown.

      “RainbowWolf?” Raycaster inquired

      “Gee, ya’ think?”

Raycaster hung his head low.

      “I’m sorry.”

      “S’okay.”

“So, um why are you here?”

“Me and Pyromaniac over there...” RainbowWolf pointed to a white she-wolf. “-are here for inspection.”

Pyromaniac was a white she-wolf, her body physique was curvy and slim. Some parts of her were black and looked like blazing fire. She nodded as a greeting. By now the whole pack had woken up. Atlasbreaker approached RainbowWolf.

“I thought Blue Streak said four of youse were coming?” Atlasbreaker inquired

“Bluesy is here? Oh goody! I was wondering why my stink bombs didn’t go off. Maybe I’ll find him later during our game of Slender.”

      “WHAT?!”

“Nevermind. Anyways, me and Pyro decided to come early. Crashing Star and Executioner had to take a pitstop.”

“What did you say about Slender?!”

“None of your business. Just a little game I have planned out. You’re gonna love it.”

Atlasbreaker gulped and walked away. Raycaster swore he could hear him praying.

“Alright, gather round.” RainbowWolf called out

The whole wolfpack surrounded RainbowWolf and Pyromaniac.

“Listen. So as you all know, me and Pyromaniac are here for inspection. I know that I’ve just been here for a few seconds, but honestly, your pack is shit. Look you’ve got one of your top wolves injured as hell...” RainbowWolf pointed at Frenzy who gave a grin “-and everyone else is arguing and tearing each other apart. I don’t like ANY of you, not a single BIT. But luckily for you, I’m gonna demolish you, then build you back up in my image.”

Some wolves hung their heads low. Raycaster especially. Backdraft looked like he couldn’t give any less of a damn.

“C’mon, chin up. You’ll be training with me, the one and only RainbowWolf. I entered the juniors fight tournament when I was a pup.” RainbowWolf boasted

“And then you lost round one with a one hit KO.” Pyromaniac chuckled

“I wasn’t ready yet.” RainbowWolf said, hanging his head low.

“It was in the Hall Of Fame for breaking two records in a row. Most Devastating Blow and Fastest Fight.” Pyromaniac continued

The pack stood in awkward silence. RainbowWolf perked up, a smile reaching ear to ear.

“Alright, I want the six most important wolves and your proteges to follow me.”

Half an hour later...

RainbowWolf had led them all to a clearing. He made them all sit in a circle.

“Alright, so as you all know, as soon as a wolf passes probatio he is then given the responsibilities of a senior. A.K.A he has to take care of the younger pups.”

All the wolves looked around. Backdraft shrugged, Raycaster nodded.

“A senior doesn’t have to be smart, strong or good at hunting at all. That’s how Pyromaniac got stuck with me.” RainbowWolf said while draping an arm over the white she-wolf. She was quick to push it aside.

The black and rainbow wolf turned his attention back to the group.

“So, for this little exercise, I’m gonna make sure you two will get along. But first I’m gonna need you guys to be honest.”

      “Honest?” Atlasbreaker asked

“Yup! I’m gonna need you to face your senior or junior, and tell them everything you hate or like about them. Just to get it off your chest.”

Everybody protested, until the black wolf spoke again.

“Now I hate this just as much as you guys do, but I’m running out of ideas here and I'm trying my best to squeeze out chapters before school starts."

      “Fans?”

“Nothing. Breaking the fourth wall is so much fun.”

“Let me just take this time to tell you that you’ve gone completely insane.”

“Whatever. Now everyone just play along or I will make the rest of this horrible fic living hell for you all.”

Nobody protested.

“Good. Now let’s kick it off with Backdraft and uh... what’s your name again?”

“Rainbow Dash.” The cyan blue she-wolf replied

“So, Rainbow Dash what do you think of Backdraft?”

      “He’s OK I guess.”

RainbowWolf walked over and sniffed Rainbow Dash.

“You’re telling the truth. But there’s much more to it than that. I smell, is that arousal?”

Rainbow Dash dared not face the alpha. Backdraft chuckled.

“Shut it speedy, I smell it on you too!”

The blue wolf shut up and hung his head low. Both him and his protege blushing furiously.

      “Now, who’s next? Ah! Frenzy.”

The black and pink wolf had a smile that was so large it probably hurt. He managed to stand but only with the support of Pinkie was he able to accomplish this.

      “Frenzy at your service!”

      “Quick, protege, thoughts?”

      “Hmm, she’s a good friend.”

Frenzy hooked a foreleg over Pinkie and pulled her closer. RainbowWolf sniffed him and backed up. His face had one of disgust. Raycaster saw him lean in towards Pyromaniac and whisper: “He scares me”.

      “Next up, uh... Covert!”

The black and yellow wolf shrunk. He stared at everybody with a pair of eyes that shone with fear.

      “M-m-me?”

      “Yea you.”

      “Oh, um...”

      “Well?”

      “Oh um... Fluttershy’s nice, a-and-”

“Kid I think that’s enough. You look like you’re gonna die from a heart attack.”

The yellow wolf hid back in the recesses of his mind.

“How come he gets off scot-free?” Backdraft growled

“Because I wanna be a dick and you two just seemed so awkward I HAD to do something about it.”

The blue wolf shut up for good this time.

“Who’s next, oh Pyro, would you like to do the honors?”

“Sure. I guess I’ll have to go with Kenshin.” Pyromaniac replied

The white wolf seemed to have grown quite close to his new protege.

“Rarity? Oh she’s great! She and I are probably the only two wolves here who have a sense of STYLE.

“Alright, next is Raycaster. Anything to share?” RainbowWolf asked

The purple wolf took one glance at the lavender she-wolf.

“She’s a good protege. Follows my orders. So, I guess she’s okay.”

RainbowWolf went up to Raycaster and sniffed him a bit. Before rearing back with a bewildered look on his face.

“Damn your good. Well now I think we can finally get on to the part where I actually teach you something.”

       “Like what?” Backdraft inquired

“Some submissions, stretches, real classified stuff.”

“Really?” Backdraft asked, excitement clearly in his voice

“Nope! Instead I’ll be giving you all a half day tutorial on things you already know how to do! C’mon! We’re burning daylight!”

New group

Hey hey hey guys! No new chap today. But I did make a new group called The Wolfpack which can be found here:The Wolfpack.

Your one stop destination for anything wolf. Which so far is only my story. If your interested go ahead and join. And don't feel shy if you want to post anything new on the group.

Until then my pups.

Leadership

RainbowWolf kept true to his word and did indeed give them a half day tutorial on all that they already knew. He taught them the best places to bite, claw and what not (Starring Kenshin as his personal punching bag).

Halfway through the tutorial, two new wolves came up. One of which was black and had a silver star shooting down his side. The other was pure grey, he looked pretty malicious. The two wolves both looked pretty laid back.

“Crash!” RainbowWolf said while giving the black wolf a high-paw

“Executioner!” RainbowWolf exclaimed before giving The grey wolf a bro-paw.

“What’s up?” The black wolf asked asked

“Nothing. Just giving the newbies and their seniors the usual low-down.”

“Cool. What’re we playing later for war games?” The grey wolf asked asked

      “We’re playing Slender.” RW answered

“Alright!” The black and silver wolf said while doing a paw-pump

RainbowWolf turned his attention back to the 12 wolves.

“Guys and gals, may I introduce to you, Executioner-” RainbowWolf gestured towards the grey wolf “-and Crashing Star.” He gestured to the black and silver wolf.

      “Hi.” Crashing Star greeted

“How’s it going?” The grey wolf said

No one replied.

      “Tough crowd.” RW whistled

“Meh. We’ve been through worse.” Crashing Star said

      “Remember Wolfington, DC?” Executioner asked

“Oh yea. That was bad. Reaaaaaaaaal bad.” RW replied

“So, can we get on to the war games now?” Executioner asked

“Oh right! Gather round everybody.” RW said

Everybody surrounded the four alphas. Pyromaniac seemed neutral on this whole thing. RW was looking quite smug alongside Crashing Star and Executioner.

“The rules to this game are incredibly simple. You, go walking around the forest. Me and the other alphas, will try and stop you. Remember, you HAVE to stick with your protege. Last team standing, wins. Frenzy, you’re excused since you’re clearly in no shape to perform now. Covert, you too since if we put you in it’d be too easy for us.”

“What do we get if we win?” Backdraft asked

“You get to live.” RW responded

Backdraft nodded. Raycaster had no emotion showing whatsoever. Atlasbreaker looked pretty paranoid. Kenshin was pretty calm about the whole situation. The elements were pretty scared. Save for Rainbow Dash who was stretching and warming up.

“You have a 10 second head start. Starting from now.” Crashing Star said

The wolves stopped what they were doing and scattered, two-by-two. The alphas simply watched as the wolves all ran off in different directions. With only Frenzy, Pinkie, Covert and Fluttershy remaining. All of them chatting.

“By the way, happy birthday bro.” Crashing Star said

“Wait, that was today?” RW replied

“Nah. It’s a few days ahead, January 8th right?” Crashing Star asked

      “Yea.” RW replied

      “Happy birthday man.” Executioner said

“Thanks. Anyways, how’s Veonetric?” RW asked

“He’s okay I guess. Kinda hard to be coaching a wolf when he’s in another pack. This pack to be exact. Might pay him a visit. He’s cold and heartless, yet warm and caring at the same time. Sometimes he care sometimes he honestly couldn’t give any less of a damn. He’s like the night. It can be cold and relentless, not caring about what you think as it sees you in it’s own light and shadow. And it can also be a light through darkness, a guide and a friend, giving you a shoulder to lean on, and the cool night air to keep you relaxed and comfortable.” Executioner said

      “That was beautiful.” RW said

“Speaking of proteges, how’s Pyromaniac?” Crashing Star said. The white she-wolf walked over upon hearing her name being called

“Hmm, she’s awesome. She’s usually funny. Just don’t catch her in a bad mood.” RW replied while hooking a foreleg over Pyromaniac.

Pyromaniac rolled her eyes

“So, should we go do our duty and go hunt them down?” Executioner asked

“Well, I think we’ve given them enough time to piss themselves. Alright, let’s go huntin’ boys.” RW said

Pyromaniac coughed.

      “Um... and girls I guess.”

Meanwhile...

Atlasbreaker and Applejack were not too happy about being hunted down by the four alphas. Atlasbreaker had completely abandoned the laid back Godfather persona and was now paranoid as hell. He kept glancing around at every sound that was made. It was evening by now. Darkness was starting to crawl across the sky and engulf the world in it’s shadows.

“This is bad. No, wait, this is BEYOND bad.” Atlasbreaker muttered

“C’mon sugarcube, they can’t be that bad.”

“You really wanna find out the hard way sweetheart?”

Applejack took that into consideration. Better safe than sorry.

“So what do we do?” AJ asked

“We move. Don’t stop and give them time to track you down.”

“And what if we find the other wolves?”

Atlasbreaker paused for awhile, as if he had never considered that it would ever happen.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. But for now, we have to worry about our own keisters.” Atlasbreaker said

Meanwhile...

Kenshin and Rarity were walking through the woods. Rarity had no idea whatsoever to where they were going.

“So, um... If I might ask, where exactly are we headed?”

“To an old spot that I’ve been hiding out in for years. It’s how I managed to avoid all the wargames since I joined up ‘till now.”

      “Well, that is rather smart.”

      “Smart? It’s genius!”

      “Well, I guess.”

“Nobody’s been able to evade the harsh wargames of the alphas up until now.”

Rarity continued walking. Relieved that she wouldn’t have to take part in the game.

Meanwhile...

Backdraft and Rainbow Dash walked through the woods. They weren’t in any sort of rush.

“Shouldn’t we like, run so that they can’t find us?” RD asked

“I never really liked to run. Only cowards run. But if it’s for a race, I’ll do what I must.”

“So, what if we bump into the other wolves?” Rainbow Dash asked

“Depends. If it’s Atlasbreaker, I think I’d probably just say hi, then leave. Kenshin is probably hiding somewhere in the woods again. And then there’s Raycaster... Let’s just say you might wanna back up if we bump into him.” Backdraft replied, with malice clearly present in his voice

Rainbow Dash was not too ecstatic about running into the pack leader anymore.

      “What’re you gonna do?”

Backdraft stopped, he took a deep breath before continuing.

“That doesn’t concern you.” Backdraft snarled

Rainbow Dash kept silent. They walked into a clearing with no trees or vegetation nearby. Just one big circle of cold, hard dirt. Backdraft stopped and didn’t move anymore.

      “What is it?” Dash asked

      “I hear something.” Backdraft replied

Rainbow focused and eventually she could hear the sound of footsteps approaching their way.

Meanwhile...

Raycaster and Twilight made their way through the forest with no clear destination in mind. Raycaster walked and did not stop. Twilight followed close behind.

      “So, where are we going?”

      “I don’t know.”

“Will your friends play nice and all or-”

Raycaster sighed. Cutting her off. Sadness occupied his eyes. He continued walking

“Honestly, I’m scared. Deep down I’m still scared. All the time. But right now I’m especially afraid. Because I practically have a target on my back. Atlasbreaker, he’s a great friend and all. But he’s pretty unpredictable. He could turn at any moment. Kenshin would be wise enough to stay out of my way, then Backdraft. I’m honestly just flat out scared of him. He’s got the strength, he’s got the speed, he’s got the skill. I can’t match up to him. All I wanted was to keep the pack together, but I can’t do it thanks to him. I honestly wish we could be on better terms, but he doesn’t want it that way. He wants to prove to everyone that he’s a better leader, that what happened with Project Vortex was just an accident. But I had to do it. I stepped in. Why? Because I knew he was going to fail again. And I can’t possibly bear the thought of him failing again. He’d be destroyed.”

The purple wolf had been so engulfed in his speech that he had walked into a clearing. It was just one big circle with no trees whatsoever. On the opposite side of this clearing was a big, black and blue wolf.

Backdraft.

      “Raycaster.” Backdraft growled

“Backdraft, we don’t have to do this.” Raycaster said

Twilight retreated to the edge of the clearing with Rainbow Dash.

“I’ve been under your command for far too long. Enough is enough! It’s time for a change Raycaster.”

“Backdraft, I really don’t want to do this.” Raycaster warned

“So?! Do I look like I care?! For years and years I’ve been haunted by the same past that put me in this rag-tag-team of idiots you call a pack! I’ve been wanting to redeem myself, to relieve the pain in my chest, to prove to them all that I am a genuine born leader! And what did you do?! You stepped in and snatched it away from me!” Backdraft snapped

“I’m sorry. If you took the reins...” Raycaster replied, pain clearly in his voice

“What?! What’s gonna happen?! What’s the worst that could happen huh?! Tell me you worthless bag of bones!”

“You know what would’ve happened. The pack would be dead now if you were the leader. I’m sorry Backdraft, I can’t let you go through all that again.”

“It would’ve gone better! I wouldn’t have slipped up!“

“I’m sorry Backdraft. But I don’t have any faith in you. Not a single bit.” Raycaster said, with sadness clearly audible in his voice

Backdraft snapped. He charged straight for Raycaster.

Game Over

Raycaster braced for impact as the blue wolf showed no signs of stopping anytime soon. The two she-wolves, Twilight and Rainbow Dash, were panicked and confused. They couldn’t just stand and watch their two alphas murder each other now can they?

Rainbow Dash and Twilight simply watched as Backdraft closed in on Raycaster. They were frozen in terror. Unable to do anything. Putting themselves in the path of Backdraft would be complete and utter suicide. The two she-wolves simply watched on in horror as Backdraft continued closing the distance in between him and Raycaster.

Out of nowhere, a flash of orange dashed out and ran right into the big blue wolf. Backdraft and Atlasbreaker both tumbled out of the clearing and out of sight. Raycaster stood there, mouth agape, he shook his head and simply stood there confused.

      “Waaaaaaaat?” Raycaster said

Backdraft came limping out of the bushes a few minutes later. He stumble around, and then coughed up blood. The blood flowed forth and formed a puddle right in front of the blue wolf. He fell on his side, eyes half lidded. Rainbow Dash and Twilight simply watched on in horror. Applejack walked up to them soon enough. She was about to say something until she took one look at Backdraft and kept quiet.

“Internal organs... Ruptured... Fuck you Atlasbreaker...” Backdraft wheezed

Atlasbreaker himself limped out of the bushes and forth into the clearing. He seemed kinda hurt. Scratches and bruises covered his body. A blood trailed from the edge of his mouth.

      “Care to explain?” Raycaster asked

“Naw, I thinks youse two oughta be the ones explainin’ yourselves.” Atlasbreaker said

Raycaster hung his head low. Backdraft was almost motionless had it not been for his breathing. The three she-wolves simply watched as Atlasbreaker continued regarding them with a raised eyebrow and a blank stare.

      “Well-” Raycaster began

Before the purple wolf could finish, the bushes parted and out emerged the four alphas themselves.

“Congratulations. You managed to beat yourselves within an inch of your lives.” RW said

If it was possible for Raycaster to hang his head even lower, he probably would’ve. Backdraft remained almost motionless save for his stomach rising and falling from his breathing. Atlasbreaker looked away and began whistling. The alpha’s looked almost embarrassed.

“Y’know what? SInce you guys are already pathetic enough on your own. Meh, we’ll let you win this one.” Crashing Star said

      “Gee, thanks.” Atlasbreaker said

      “Help... Can’t breathe...”  Backdraft said

Twilight and her two friends simply looked on in awkward silence. They were only now beginning to realize how pathetic the pack was. Here was their leader hanging his head low, their top hunter on the ground coughing up blood and barely moving and their strongest packmate covered head to toe in cuts and bruises.

“Y’know what guys? I’m thinking of a name change.” RW said

“As if. You know Lupa would never grant a wolf an identity change unless-” Pyromaniac said

Before she could continue however, a beam of moonlight encased RW, All they could see was a beam of light, the black wolf had completely disappeared. And then the light died down, revealing a silver and midnight blue wolf. He had a huge grin on his face.

“Say goodbye to RW and say hello to Riptide.” The wolf said

“I freaking love you.” Pyromaniac said while staring at the ground and shaking her head laughing

“Well, looks like that’s all for now. So, see you guys again. Or maybe never. Hopefully never.” Executioner said

The four alphas soon began walking off towards where they had once come from. Twilight, RD and Applejack were still in shock. Backdraft began to slowly pull himself to his paws. His breathing was heavy. He gave Atlasbreaker a glare, the orange wolf simply shrugged. Raycaster still had his head hung low.

“Well, close to midnight by nows. Frenzy and Covert probably gots bored and headed back to the cave withouts us, slackers. So we gots to go now, the place is probably a warsone thanks to Frenzy.” Atlasbreaker said

Truth Hurts

Over the course of time, Twilight and the rest of the elements slowly started to get to know the wolf culture. And eventually, they had fully adopted it and had almost completely discarded the pony lifestyle. Even Rarity was okay with it. The elements no longer saw them as cold blooded killers, instead they were now deemed as heroes of some sort, guardians that do their job simply because the safety and happiness of other sentient beings bring them happiness.

It would’ve worked out, if somepony hadn’t showed up and ruined it of course.

It was another fine night of hunting, Twilight, the elements and their seniors were walking through the woods, prowling for any potential threats. Everything was peaceful, guard duty had turned into a nice stroll under the moonlight.

Suddenly, their peaceful walk was interrupted by a flash of blue light. The twelve wolves shielded themselves from the light. When they opened their eyes, they were greeted by the sight of Princess Luna.

“Your highness.” Raycaster said while bowing, the other seniors silently bowed

Twilight was confused as to why the princess would visit them. Maybe she was here to inform the wolves about the next full moon?

“At ease. I am here to see the Elements of Harmony.” The princess said

Twilight felt a bit quizzical at first, why would Luna be looking for the elements?

“The Elements Of Harmony?” Raycaster asked

“It’s a pony thing.” Luna said while waving a hoof dismissively

Raycaster shrugged. Luna stared at Twilight Sparkle.

“Twilight Sparkle, I assume that thee have stayed wolf long enough.”

      “What?” Backdraft asked

Suddenly it hit her. Luna was here to change them back. Back into ponies.

      “Wait, princess-” Twilight said

“Thee have had thy fun, but I’m afraid you’ve disappeared from equestria long enough.”

Before any of the elements could say anything, a flash of blue light encased them. Twilight could feel her snout shortening, her fur becoming much more tidier and smoother, her horn sprouting from her forehead once again, her tail becoming much more rectangular in shape and finally her eyes enlarging. The rest of the elements felt exactly the same way as Twilight did, when they were done with their conversion, the six wolves simply stared at them.

“I shall leave thee alone to say thy goodbyes.” Luna said before disappearing in a flash of light

      “All this time...” Backdraft muttered

“...youse girls were lyin’ to us?” Atlasbreaker said, a sad, pained look replacing his usual smug expression

“It’s not like that! We still like you guys!” Pinkie said

“Did you like us enough to tell us the truth?” Frenzy coldly said

Pinkie Pie was about to say something until she faltered and shut up.

“Forget it, you can forget about ever coming back, if you can’t trust us, then we can’t trust you.” Raycaster said as he and the other wolves turned their backs on the mares and left.

Epilogue

It’s been around two months since Twilight had returned from her little “quest” for Princess Luna. The lavender mare was sitting on her bed writing on a scroll.

Dear Princess Celestia,

With some help from your sister, Princess Luna, I learned that sometimes there are more than meets the eye and that you should never judge a book by it’s cover, no matter how convincing it looks.

from your faithful student, Twilight Sparkle

      “Oh Spiiiike!” Twilight said

The purple dragon entered the room.

“Help me send this to Princess Celestia will you?” Twilight said

      “Sure thing!” the dragon replied

The dragon set the scroll on fire with his fire breath and soon it was on it’s way to Canterlot.

      “Anything else Twilight?” Spike asked

      “Not now. Thanks.” Twilight said

Spike turned and left the room. As he did, Twilight closed her eyes and breathed a sigh.

When she reopened them, they were the eyes of a wolf. A mischievous grin formed on Twilight’s face, revealing sharp teeth that only a wolf could inherit.

Alt. Ending

The six wolves all sat in the cave, bored as can be. The rest of the wolves had exited the cave and gone hunting. Only the six were still left. The six wolves did whatever they could to keep themselves entertained. Backdraft and Atlasbreaker were slowly banging their heads into the walls in synchronization. Frenzy was drawing little doodles amongst the dust and dirt on the floor. Covert was curled up, clearly awake, but refusing to communicate with any living soul. Kenshin was lying down on the floor, a longingly staring at the moon outside. Raycaster stood amongst them all, worried.

"C'mon guys, quit it." Raycaster said

      "No." Covert said

"Come on, crack a smile or something." Raycaster

"Smile. Pinkie used to smile. A lot." Frenzy mumbled

"Why don't we go hunting? It might-"

"Hunting. Rainbow Dash used to love hunting." Backdraft muttered

      "I give up." Raycaster said

Raycaster sat down and observed his surroundings. Here were two of his best athletes, Backdraft and Atlasbreaker destroying whatever brain cells they had left, his stealthiest pack mate, Covert, curled up on the floor in an emo-like state, his most energetic hunter, Frenzy, drawing doodles in the dust and the deadliest of all, Kenshin was moony eyed. Literally.

"Can't we just go and pay them a little visit? Stop by to say hi?" Frenzy mumbled

"Frenzy, they lied to us, all this time they didn't bother telling us the truth. I forbid any of you to leave this cave." Raycaster said

Suddenly, Backdraft stopped wrecking the wall and turned to face Raycaster.

"Y'know what? All this time, I've never really followed your orders. And heck, that sure as hell ain't changing today." Backdraft said

Backdraft turned to head for the exit before Raycaster stopped him.

"If you leave this cave, you sure as hell better not think about coming back." Raycaster said

Backdraft looked back for a while as his pack mates stared at him as if he'd gone insane. Backdraft seemed to change his mind for a split second before staring back at the road in front of him.

"I never really liked it here anyways." Backdraft muttured

The big blue wolf exited the cave. He walked towards the glowing city of Ponyville and never looked back as his pack mates watched him in awe.

"You knows what? I'm done wit being youse bitch. I do what I wants." Atlasbreaker growled

Atlasbreaker too got up and left the cave. Seemingly running after Backdraft.

"I'm done. Alright, I quit. So long Raycaster." Frenzy said

Frenzy ran out the cave while yelling: "Hey guys, wait up!"

Soon enough Kenshin too got up and started walking towards the exit. Before he did leave, he turned around to face Raycaster.

"You know, if I hadn't found this place, I would've never found Rarity, or Ponyville for that matter. So, I will thank you." Kenshin said

The white wolf walked away as Raycaster and Covert were the only ones left. That didn't last long however as Covert soon got up and and made his way towards the exit. Before he could set foot outside, Raycaster gave him a sad, pleading look.

"Please, not you too," Raycaster said

      "Sorry." Covert said

The yellow wolf followed his brethren and walked towards Ponyville, or simply, his new home. Raycaster sighed and stared at the moon, a full circular white disc of light.

"*sigh* If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Raycaster said as he left the cave and followed his pack mates.

Lawl, sorry.

Yea, no sequel.
