"I heard a heart beat! I heard it!" Ditzy rejoiced with hope.
"What?! He's still alive?!" Everypony in the room shouted other statements being a bit different with the same context.
"This means we still have time to save him!" Grim shouted, "We can't let him die."
"But, Cross isn't here! How the buck are we supposed to save him?!" Legit exclaimed as the Grave pony had set up the heart monitor no longer using the cave pony's way to feel for a pulse.
Going through his teachings and his time with Cross, Grim closed his eyes as he focused remembering nearly everything. "Alright, listen up guys, I am going to need everyone's help here! Ice!"
"Yes sir!"
"Lower the room's temperature! We can slow down Graze's body movement, he can't afford to lose anymore blood," Grim explained and then looked to Dark and Legit, "You two! Apply pressure to both the wounds!" Without a second to think, the two ponies placed their hooves near the gash across my side as well as close as possible to where the wing used to be. Wincing and whinnying in pain, Dark looked at me trying his best to look strong through this moment as he continued his job.
"Not now Graze, just rest." He comforted me.
"Wait! What about his wing?! There is no way in Tartarus he can fly again," Legit said trying his best not to look at the ripped veins and blood.
"I can deal with that," Vinetion said rather emotionless, "But, I don't think we can find a replacement that fast."
"But we need to! We can't stop the blood!" Ditzy shouted in desperation.
"Look! If we go back there in our conditions now, we would have more lives on our hooves! He won't make it either way!" *Thud* "What is that?" Vinetion pointed to another dismembered wing on the bed.
"Changeling wing,"Grim replied,"let's just say, someone won't be needing it for a long time. It's the perfect substitute to change to the owner's will."
"How is that perfect!?!" Vinetion argued, "It's dead and Celestia knows how long that's been out there! How in buck is that perfect!?"
"Magic is energy my dear Vinetion," Grim said even in this time a bit smugly placing the wing of another near my arc. "Energy cannot be destroyed or created, it can only be converted or conserved," he went into a bit further detail as he rummaged through a cupboard pulling out a bottle of disinfectant. "Ditzy and Aroma, hold Graze down, this is going to sting a bit." Using his magic, he dabbed a cloth with the disinfectant and placed it upon my wounds applying more and more pressure.
*Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep *
"AGGGHHHHH!" I shouted in pain as my body tried to flail being held back by the two mares. The monitor continuously beeped at a faster rate as my heart did too feeling the stinging and painful sensation pumping more blood from my wounds and onto the sheets of the bed.
"GRIM HURRY! HE'S LOSING MORE BLOOD!" Aroma shouted in panic.
*Beep.......Beep......Beep*
"Hang on Graze! Please! Please!" Ditzy teared up grabbing onto my hoof with both of hers tightly as if he she was trying to hold onto my life as well.
"I KNOW! I KNOW!" Grim panicked hearing the rate of beeps decrease through frequency a bit slower than usual. Quickly looking towards Vine he placed a lot of pressure onto her, "Whatever you're gonna do, do it now!"
Time was cutting short for me and this was placing a lot of pressure onto everyone else, mostly everyone. Vinetion was the one who remained calm and focused as she brought forth a vine with two ends cut placing it between the Changeling wing and arc. "What exactly are you doing?" Grim asked out of curiosity the question on everyone's mind.
Concentrating on that single vine, vessels from the plant like structure itself connected both arc and wing like a bridge with the other veins. "Phloem and Xylem," Vine said with her eyes closed gritting her teeth, "It's what plants use to transfer supplies throughout their system. Hopefully it will work." Finally connected and smiling at her efforts, Vinetion released a breath she didn't realize she was holding. Moving out of the way, she cleared a path for Grim who was quick to stitch them together.
Breeze and Legit cringed from the sight of metal stitching puncture the skin as it neatly made it's way in and out with the careful assistance of magic.
*Beep..............Beep............Beep.............Beep* The heart monitor's frequency slowed down even more.
"C'mon! C'mon! Why isn't it working!" Grim fretted over the machine near my bedside shaking it and praying for better results. Suddenly, he felt a touch on his hoof. It was mine.
"You.....You did your best...." I said through my final breaths. "Thank you Grim bu-"
"Graze, please rest," Grim interjected as he begged with Ditzy and the rest.
"It's....It's useless... I don't have much time anyways...." I accepted my fate.
"Don't say that!" Ditzy cried, "We could ask Charge! He could have something! What about Cross! He can help!" She exclaimed looking for a solution. To that, I simply shook my head.
"It's too late.....If you go now... I won't be here..."
"You can't leave Graze! You promised me! BBBFF remember?!" Aroma shouted with her eyes closed as tears streamed down her cheeks hating that I had to break such promise. "You said forever!"
A tear rolled down my eye as I saw her fight against me. "I'm sorry sis... But no matter what...." Wiping her tears and taking a deep breath for this line, "No matter where I am.....I will always...Always be your Big Brother Best Friend Forever.... Don't ever forget that." Her eyes opened once again seeing a weak smile upon my face. "So, who's gonna protect you from those mean colts now?" I joked.
It pained her and everyone else to see me still smile even in the face of death. It was like a tease knowing that I enjoyed my last few seconds with them, because, I was. I wouldn't rather spend my final moments any other way.
Aroma bawled her heart out as she laid on my chest with tears soaking upon my bloodied coat. I laid a hoof on her head and reassured, "It's okay Aroma, everything is going to be fine... I'm going to meet mom right? It's not all bad."
Understanding I was trying to lighten the mood, she nodded her head looking at me as she wiped a few tears, "Tell her I said hi." She accepted my optimism with a weak voice.
"Take care of Valkyria for me." Getting up from my chest, I then looked towards the rest of the gang who watched me back.
[Make this fast Graze, we still have one more]
{I know}
"It was a pleasure serving with you all of you... I can't thank you guys enough...Thank you for everything. For standing beside me. For a wonderful life. For laughter. For friendship. Thank you Breeze. Shot. Dark. Ice. Light. Vinetion. Legit. Grim." I called out their names in order watching each as I said it. "I am forever grateful." I smiled to them saying my short speech. Some were crying, some were understanding and others were quiet. All were sad.
"You seem rather fine with this," Grim whispered to Vinetion who was quite stoic at the moment.
"I'm not," she instantly replied, "You think I like to see my friends go?"
Looking towards Ditzy by my side now, I grabbed her hoof. "Bright Eyes?"
"Y-yes Graze?" She said choking on a few tears. I didn't respond with words but instead, I grabbed her with my remaining hoof pulling her into a hug. With near to no strength left, she willingly accepted it. I pulled her in closer so that my chest was touching hers, our hearts closer to one another ever than before. We remained there in silence in another's embrace in tears as I felt her heart beating strongly against mine which was ever slowing down. To me, no words needed to be said.
A minute soon had passed within the embrace and there was no more. Ditzy's heart was left alone as another's beat went missing. She was the first to be notified I was gone, but soon the heart monitor was going to warn the others. Crying and holding on a bit longer to my body, she finally laid it down to rest gently on the sheets. One final kiss upon the cheek, she then laid her eyes upon my lifeless body. "Rest in peace Muffin. I will always love you."
---
Looking at my friends from the background, I watched them in tears surrounding my body leaving the silence unbroken for the couple who had just shared their final moment. "I'm sorry." A futile attempt for ponies to hear my final words.
"Graze?" I heard a familiar voice from behind.
"Yes mom?" I said not looking back at her but still at my friends who were weeping.
"Can we talk?"
"We have all of eternity to do so... Just give me a few more seconds." I pleaded of her.
"What are you waiting on?" She asked curiously.
Closing my eyes, I did not respond. *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-* The machine finally sounded off.
"That."
