Chapter 100: Light's Shadow
Previous Chapter Next Chapter"Well, look at what we have here," Shadow announced. "If it isn't Light."
"Pleasure," was all the white alicorn had said.
"So, before we actually do begin, please tell me," Light rose an eyebrow to this statement. "Who or what are you actually doing this for? Is it for your beloved Trixie? Or is it for your friends? Forgiveness? Or to make Mommy and Daddy proud."
"None," Light responded with his head down. "I am doing this for myself, to stop you and what you plan to do to others! I will not allow you to hurt anyone, anymore!"
"Hmph pathetic," Shadow spat blood unto the floor. "I'll always be a part of you. I grew up with you and have made you who you are today."
"No, I am who I am!" Light stomped his hoof staring down his other half with intent to kill. "You're just a sick, twisted monster!" Snickering came from the black alicorn as his head bent towards the direction of the impaled wing, slowly pulling out the knife wrench with his jaw as it had left an ever so gaping hole. "What's so funny?"
"Hahahaha! You say you're different than me but, look at yourself! Hahahaha! Those eyes, filled with hate and murder, they crave to see me dead!" Shadow continued his rant, calming down from his laughter. "Now now, we cannot simply forget all that we've been through, can you?"
"Our life, the memories, the laughter, the happiness, the love of one's family?" Shadow then paused and evilly smiled. "Our birthday perhaps?"
Light gritted his teeth, "Shut up!"
"How about after that? The loneliness? The fights? All we did to survive?" Shadow shook his head in disbelief, "You'll never forget that, and without me, you won't even be here."
A moment of silence was given to Light to think, soon to be broken when his mouth opened. "You're right, and guess what?" He smiled with a face of determination, "I won't be needing you anymore."
"We shall see about that," Shadow then anchored his hooves to the ground, shooting a beam of pure red magic from his horn. Paralleled with strength, Light focused, countering with his own beam of yellow against the red's as they collided midfield straining against the other to overpower. Travelling back and forth, the beams dared not fall to the other, this was the final match and neither was going to back down.
Smiling and actually winning, Light forced himself the extra mile as Shadow's beam retreated. Quickly rolling to the side and dodging the blast, he laid on his stomach as he showered the field with multiple volleys of energy. Few swallowed by the blast of Light's continuing beam, many had made their way as they continuously pounded upon him, exploding on contact.
"Light!" Cloud exclaimed and galloped to his direction but was quickly stopped by a wing of Charge's. Silent watched Chaser and only shook his head. The jacketed pony snorted like a bull in agreement, only to wince slightly in pain from his previous assault. Both teachers continued to watch as the Light parted the cloud of dust and dirt allowing the battle to rage on. Unfolding his wings followed by a gallop, Light gracefully dodged the oncoming volleys. As to seeing them futile and with Light nearing, Shadow followed up with his charge towards his other half with a battle shout and a hoof held tight in place ready to attack.
A beam of red and yellow light shot up and pierced the heavens upon collision, leaving a single hole in the darkened clouds as it progressed higher and higher. A light show of both colors flashed through the clouds as from the top, the beams dispersed only to collide once, twice and few times, criss-crossing with one another, a boom of sound and light as they intersected. A DNA structure was formed as their onslaught of attacks continued, piercing through the final layer of cloud and atmosphere in the view of Celestia's bright sun in the ever continuing stream of blue sky.
At point intersection and collision for their final time, both Shadow and Light hoof in hoof against one another as they bit upon the arcs of each's wing. Both ponies spiraled crashing through each and every cloud back down on their way to Equestria. Shadow smiled evilly as he quickly released his bite and headbutted Light saving himself from the impact.
Light cringed in pain as his body failed him, he laid there on the stadium's floor feeling a few of his bones broken. His consciousness going blank once more, he failed to realize the danger of the situation as he laid one hoof in front of him to pull himself up but, Shadow had a few other plans. He picked up the once fallen wrench and plunged it through both hooves of Light's directly one on top the other.
"AGGHHH!" Light shouted as tears flowed down his cheeks.
"I've told you this and I shall say it again, you are not getting rid of me."
"Why?" Light asked.
Shadow raised a single brow looking at the weaker pony, "Why what?"
"Why are you doing all of this? What is there to gain? Couldn't you just allow me to live a happy life, just for once?"
"Happy life? Who do you exactly think you're kidding you miserable little pony. You actually think your friends care for you? You actually think anyone cares for you? On the inside, none of them will forget what you did. How raw and evil you were."
"THAT WAS ALL YOUR FAULT!"
"My fault, you are correct, but, how will ending me off do justice?" Shadow questioned. "That won't bring peace to your little mind, heh, not after what we've done anyways."
"PEACE?! JUSTICE?! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TELL ME ANYTHING ABOUT THAT! MY FAMILY! MY FRIENDS! MY TEACHERS! MY SCHOOL!" Light gripped the dirt in anger. "AFTER EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE! DON'T YOU DARE TALK ABOUT PEACE AND JUSTICE!"
"Then, how exactly do you plan on doing this? Bringing Justice and peace."
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU! AND BRING PEACE BACK TO MYSELF!"
"How selfish, and you call me the monster?" Shadow looked down once more and flicked the knife wrench causing Light to whinny in pain. "That is not your goal, Light. I know you and, you still seek forgiveness. From who? It will not ever matter, they're either gone," Shadow's horn then glowed a bright red as he flung a severed white wing in front of Light. "Or dead."
The thud of the wing echoed through Light's mind, immediately knowing whose it was. His pupils dilated, gritting his teeth with immense force such that his mouth began to bleed. He struggled using his wings as he moved one wincing with every inch of pain as a single touch of the wrench shot pain through his entire body. Ignoring the pain, he backhanded grasped the blade and slowly pulled it out, drips of blood slowly rolling down hoof upon hoof, it did not budge. "Hnggg!" Light clenched his teeth as his battle against the blade continued.
"Just give up already!" Shadow charged with his horn to impale.
Time was of the essence, his vision going shot blood red, fading in and out as Light called upon his second wing. His struggle continued glancing back and forth at Shadow and the blade which was finally giving in to his determination and will. The slow release of blood flow turned into a stream down his hooves with a withheld breath, the knife was pulled out. "NOT EVEN IN TARTARUS!" Light shouted and quickly thrusted the knife forward. Blade and horn crossing paths, they sheathed against the other as both released their final shout. Charge's ears twitched at the sound of blade in flesh as both alicorns stood still, a final wind blowing through everyone's mane. Not a single word from there was spoken, one pony was not going to make it.
Shadow over Light, the two bodies laid with only one breathing. Charge, Cross, Omnius, Chaser and Mark all watched and awaited for a sign of their student's hope.
"Dear Celestia, torture me if you may, just please... Don't let this happen!" Chaser prayed with Omnius' supporting hoof over his back. Charge with Slender on his back stayed silent along with Mark and Cross, their eyes not moving from the spot. Shadow's body moved, putting everypony left into a cautious battle stance but soon came to ease as Shadow was rolled over and onto the side of Light both breathing heavily.
The knife stuck in Shadow's chest, his eyes in shock and wide, he focused from the blade and onto the darkened clouds which being parted by the rays of Celestia's sun to bless the battlefield. The battle had been won.
Shadow's eyes strained a stare to his other half, mouthing his last words falling to deaf ears as his once black aura faded with the wind, leaving the lone alicorn on the field.
A big smile on his face, Light's 'curse' had been lifted, but at what cost? He stared at the white lone wing on the floor. His hoof reached out to touch it, his body did not allow. Tired from the battle, he knocked out once again, unconscious.
-- One day after Shadow's Attack--
'Hellooooooo. Light? You okay there buddy?'
The white alicorn quickly awoke on a hospital bed hearing the somewhat familiar voice. In disbelief and shock, his eyes darted at all points of his bed surrounded by a blue curtain. Left, forward, even up and finally, to his right he saw a single clothed pony in that same area. His eyes glistened with tears, he stuttered a few words, "G-Graze?" He watched me as if I was some sort of ghost.
"Yeah man, you're on my bed," I chuckled a laugh but was quickly pulled into a hug.
"I thought you were dead!"
"It's okay man," I patted his back. "It's gonna take a lot more than that to take me out."
Releasing from the embrace, his smile shined brighter than anything else in the room. "I did it, Shadow's finally gone!" He looked at me filled with joy. "He's finally gone!"
"I know you did man," I nodded in approval. "I had faith in you," pulling the curtains every teacher and friend alike he had known in the room was revealed with either a supportive hoof, smile or in Anarchy's case, thumbs up.
"All of us did."
