Chapter 7: Understanding | Rebirth

Spike looked at me with confusion, and I returned the same facial gesture. I had no idea how I knew that. It just sort of popped into my head with such force that I blurted it out.

"How'd you know that... uh... I still haven't gotten your name yet," questioned Spike.

"To be quite frank I have no idea what my name is, and I doubt I will unless Twilight does something," I sighed.

"You know if you didn't seem like such a cool dude, I'd be seriously creeped out right now.."

An awkward silence followed that statement, and after a few moments he finished, "I mean... it is... right?"

"Don't sweat it mate," I laughed.

Another awkward silence passed before he struck up conversation again.

"Well now you know about Twilight, why not tell me something about your family?"

"I'd really love to answer that... but I really don't know anything about myself. Hopefully your friend Twilight will have some answers for me."

"Oh sorry 'bout that. Don't worry about it. She always knows what to do!" he boasted. I hope...

-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

"Sorry, but I really don't know what to do." Mental facepalm.

"Wha- what do you mean?"

"To be quite honest, I have no idea how you have even gotten here. And for the whole amnesia case, I have no explanation for that either. I really didn't want to bother the princess, but it seems I have no choice."

"Who is this... 'princess'?"

"Princess Celestia!

My eye twitched at her outburst and she caught it.

"Oh... sorry for snapping at you... forgot the fact you're not from here."

"It's fine really, I'm not quite in the mood to question how politics work in this world. I just want to figure out what's going on here."

"Alright well... Spike! I need you to take a letter!"

Spike suddenly appeared with a piece of paper that looked like an ancient scroll and a quill. I mean really... is this the middle ages or something?

"Ready and waiting Twilight!"

Dear Princess Celestia,

I'm sorry if you're a bit confused that this isn't my weekly friendship report, but there appears to be a newcomer to town. He has no idea who he is and how he got here. I've tried every resource avaliable for answers, but none of them seem to provide any help. He appears to be very friendly and desperate for answers. It would be much appreciated if you could assist us in any way.

Your Faithful Student,

Twilight Sparkle.

"Alright cool, all we need to do is find a post offi-"

Spike then rolled up the scroll and breathed green fire onto it.

"WHAT THE HELL MAN?! THAT'S NOT HELPFUL AT ALL!"

Twilight then zipped my mouth shut with magic. I near shat my pants and started flopping on the ground like a fish tugging at the zipper covering my mouth. Twilight sighed in the background and started murmuring things to herself. She then took a deep breath and faced me.

"Spike possesses the ability to send letters directly to the princess. Okay? He does this by breathing fire onto any parchment I want to send. Now, I'll remove the zipper in the second."

Spike then coughed out an identical looking scroll. Looked pretty painful from my view. Twilight walked over and picked it up. She chuckled to herself and stood still waiting. Confused, I walked up to her and asked what was going on.

"Mmmmhn?"

She removed the spell.

"Thanks. So what did she say?"

"She'll be here in a minute."

"Wait what? How?"

A great, blinding light dispersed any thoughts I had. After many minutes of rubbing my eyes, I squinted and saw a marvelous, white pony. She was very tall, and even perhaps as tall as me. What intrigued me the most is how she has both a horn and a pair of wings. What did the other ponies call them? Ali... alisarns? Alicorns! Ah yes. Sounds right.

I realized that I had been staring at her for quite some time silently. She didn't seem to be unnerved by this, or she was really good at not showing it. Instead, she looked like she was... smirking? Why? I opened my mouth and tried to say something but all I managed to do was emit a squeak. She giggled and gave a hoof motion that seemed to suggest I try again. I blushed furiously and mumbled out a "Hiiiiiiiiii..." with my voice cracking.

She giggled again and gave me a smile of glee and turned to Twilight. They began to talk fast with hushed voices. I only managed to grab a few words out of the massive jumble of the lot.

"Get. Fine. Fit in. Live."

"Risky. Past. Corrupt."

I tried to get a better hearing on what they were saying, but every time I tried to get close, they would suddenly stop talking and stare at me until I backed away. After I returned to a safe distance, they would continue to talk. I sighed in defeat and plopped onto the couch and waited for them to stop. After what felt to be an hour (which was really 20 minutes), they stopped talking and both faced me.

I raised a concerned eyebrow. "What's up?"

"Well... it seems that there is no way to get you home."

I gasped loudly and felt despair down in my heart.

"BUT... it seems like you can fit in just fine here. We can either allow you to reside here in Ponyville under the temporary care of Twilight, or you can come back with me to Canterlot where you can wander around the castle in seclusion. The choice is entirely up to you."

"What about my memories? I need to remember who I am." I tried to pull off a grim face.

"I cannot simply give you your memories back. Based on what our doctors said, if I tried, I could potentially kill you. Or, I would severely damage your brain. Which would, most likely, leave you with mixed results." Wow. Never could have imagined THAT coming out of her.

"Oh... I see. So, my memory is gone *deep swallow* forever?" I began to shed light tears, fully understanding my situation.

"No! No. I said that I can't give you them... at once."

"So there's another way?"

"Yes. What I could do instead is repair some of the damage done, and allow your brain to mend itself at its own pace. Without magical help, this would be virtually impossible. Lucky for you, you're talking to one of the most powerful ponies in Equestria."

"Sweet. Are you absolutely sure that there's no way I can go back to my home? Super positive?"

"Sorry, no chance." :C

I sighed and accepted defeat. Can't win them all... "Alright. Sounds good. So let's get started shall we?"

She seemed confused. "Start what?"

"The procedure... for my brain...," I stated sarcastically.

"I can't do that now." She giggled.

I scratched my head in confusion. She took the hint.

"It takes a lot of magic from trained, skilled magicians. I cannot do it alone; I'm simply not strong enough in this field. I can gather up some of the best in Equestria to aid you by 2 weeks."

"Wow! Thanks a bunch. You're going through so much to help me." I smiled a big ol' grin.

"Anything for a friend of my protegé. And hopefully soon a friend of the rest of the Mane 6."

I decided not to look further in the idea of the Mane 6. I had no idea what it meant, but it's not really important right now. "Wicked! I'm gonna go out for a walk. Digest everythin-"

"Wait! You cannot go out in your shape!" She held me in place using magic to prevent me from moving.

"Why not?"

"You...," she took a dramatic pause for reasons unknown and continued, "are a myth here."

"I'm... a myth? A child's story?" I bawled out in laughter and fell to the floor. Oh... the irony!

"You took that rather well. Anyway... you can't be seen outside. Everypony would be scared of you and run."

"Seems like these stories are more horror than child-oriented. So what do I do? Wear a hat?" I laughed for a few seconds.

"No... you have to be a pony."

My laughter stopped immediately. "I have to be... one of you guys?"

She nodded with a serious face.

"But..." I looked at my hands and noticed the various scars lining them from knuckle to wrist. I opened and clenched them, testing their strength. "... I like me." I put on a big frown.

"I'm sorry. It must be done though."

Inhale. Exhale. It has to be done. Inhale. Exhale.

"Okay."

I'd first off like to thank many of the people who post comments and PM me valuable criticism that I took into effect. I decided on redoing the ending of this chapter because I wasn't satisfied with how rushed I made it. Please take the time to reread and expect the next update by tonight.

I'd like to thank many people for adding me on Xbox Live and having a group of friends to chill with is fun. Do feel free to lob me a friend request @ rageofhell45. Currently playing BF3, MW3, GoW3, and SR3.
