There is No Meat

I finished jamming my laptop into my duffle bag as I saw Rainbow Dash with two satchels tied around her body. She smiled at me as I grinned at her. I walked over to the door and opened it slowly. I gestured to rainbow Dash to exit before me.

"Mares first."

Rainbow Dash looked at me a little funny as she trotted out. I walked out and was able to see Cloudsdale at normal view, instead of going hypersonic, or wanting to not be found. I still saw the rainbows trickling down all over the place. Countless more houses made from clouds floated around. I was about to point out something else until I got a poke from Rainbow Dash.

"So, you wanna race to Canterlot?"

I took a good look at my duffle bag before answering.

"That won't be a good idea with this.", I said motioning to the duffle bag,"There's quite a lot of fragile things in here."

Rainbow Dash looked at me a little disappointed.

"Aw, well, I guess we could just fly there."

"Who says we can't fly a little fast?"

With that said, my wings shot out of my back, and I could already fell the heat of the rocket pack flaring up. I grinned at Rainbow Dash, and she took her stance. I applied just enough pressure to the rocket pack so on take off, I don't end up shredding my duffle bag from its straps. Right as I felt the rocket pack demand that I go, I looked at Rainbow Dash.

"Ya ready?"

"Of course!"

Instantly, the rocket pack ignited, and I shot forward with incredible speed. I looked back, and sure enough, Rainbow Dash was side-by-side with me. I straitened my body, and i pushed myself a little faster. I looked at my duffle bag. It was still intact. I sighed with relief as I looked forward. Suddenly, rainbow Dash flew at least a million times faster than me at one point.

"Hey! I thought this wasn't a race!"

Rainbow Dash looked back at me with a sheepish smile on her face.

"It isn't! I'm flying fast!"

I rolled my eyes at Rainbow Dash's immaturity as I saw what appeared to be a large palace resting on the side of a mountain.

"Is that Canterlot?"

"Yeah!"

"It's amazing."

"Not as amazing as Cloudsdale!"

Again, I rolled my eyes.

Me and Rainbow Dash began to slow our descent quite nicely as we touched down. My wings shot back into my shoulder blades, and I unslung my duffle bag. What happened next completely caught me off guard. At least hundreds of those golden armored guards stormed down a tower and approached me with their spears drawn. They pointed the sharp polearms at my face as two guards took away Rainbow Dash. She began screaming that I was not going to harm 'anypony'. One told me stand up slowly, but before I could oblige, my wings shot out from my back, forcing me to stand. The guards raised their spears as my wings spread apart and reviled two gattling cannons that shot out from my metal appendages. My targeting eyepiece lowered over my eye and began locking targeting reticles over every single guard in front of me. I recovered from the sudden event as I tried to cancel the action.

"Wings...retract."

The gattling cannons sunk back in, the eyepiece lowered, and my wings folded up and sunk back in. The guards approached me now with more reinforcements as my wings nearly shredded them against my will.

Stupid wings.

One of the guards approached me and poked a spear in my back lightly.

"Move forward."

I raised my hands as I trudged in the direction the guards told me to walk. Some of the guards made way to rainbow Dash, who was released from the guard's hooves and trudged over to me.

"What were you thinking?!", she whispered angrily.

"I didn't control it. The wings acted on their own."

"Yeah right! You can control your wings!"

"That may be true for you, but I have a machine that somehow thinks on its own."

"Silence."

I looked up at the guard who said that. His expression still remained blank, and he kept staring ahead as if he had said nothing. The walk was long, but eventually, we reached the palace. The massive doors swung open, and I found myself staring at a very large unicorn...wait, it has wings to. Okay, so I think I heard Twilight mentioning something about an Alicorn, and Rainbow Dash said that Equestria was ruled by two Alicorns. So, I must be looking at an Alicorn.

Of course.

The guards bowed down and sunk away from Rainbow Dash and me. The large Alicorn slowly walked down the massive stairwell and approached me. She spoke to me in a gentle, yet unnatural voice that sent a shiver down my spine.

"Ah, you must be Benjamin Lilienfeld. Is that correct?"

I replied nervously.

"Uh...yeah. Were you expecting me?"

"Of course, you were the whole reason that I sent invitations to all of Twilight's friends."

"What for?"

"So you could learn a bit about the history of Equestria  and maybe meet Twilight's friends while your at it."

"Well, I've already met one.", I say smiling at Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash meekly smiled at the Alicorn.

"Oh, where are my manners? I am Princess Celestia, current ruler of Equestria and controller of the sun."

"Ah, Rainbow Dash told me a bit about you. Funny thing is, I find anything controlling the sun impossible. If you said that where I came from, you would probably be put into a mental institute."

"Well, it is very true that I control the sun. Just look outside."

I looked outside, and suddenly the sun began moving forward much faster than on Earth. It slowly crawled across the sky and rested on the 2:00 position. Then, it moved backwards and rested on the 12:00 position.

"Amazing."

"Thank you. If you want to make yourselves at home for now, your room is down the hallway to the right. I believe you will be staying for the day."

"Much appreciated your highness."

"Please, just call me Celestia."

I laughed a bit and I saw Rainbow Dash break into a smile. We decided to head down the our temporary room as early as possible. I opened the door, and the accommodations were much like a 5-star hotel on Earth...minus the statues and artwork of ponies everywhere.

"Ugh, this is boring."

There is just no pleasing this mare. Well, time to see what i can do on the computer. Right as I was about to boot it up, a guard came by and reminded us that lunch was in an hour. I nodded, and he just walked away with out any further speech.

"Jesus, they're so blank."

"Tell me about it."

I booted up the laptop and decided to go onto Combat Arms. I clicked to shortcut, and immediately, it ran the program. I found myself staring at the vast selection of weapons available.

"Whacha doing?"

I turned around to Rainbow Dash.

"I'm gonna play another game called Combat Arms."

"What's that?"

"It's the same gun action and normally the same objectives as Battle Field 3. With the exception that it is much more fast paced and there is a much bigger selection of weapons."

"Uh, okay.", she said a bit nervously.

I quickly realized something.

"Ya know, I've been showing you all of these games and movies. To put it my way, I've been doing what I want to do. What do you think you want to do for a change?"

Rainbow Dash stared off into space which signaled that she was thinking  for a moment.

"I really want another race. This time, I won't cheat. But I'll still win!"

"Wow, is racing all you ever think about?"

"Well, no...okay yes...pretty much."

I smiled and shook my head.

"Alright, where to Dashie?"

We walked down the hallway and found ourselves in some sort of tower. We stood on the balcony and stared off into the beautiful view of Equestria.

Too bad it was going to be a blur in a few seconds.

I threw down my arms and my wings shot out of my back. My targeting eyepiece came up to my eye and measured the distance to the destination: The farthest edge of the Everfree Forest. I felt the heat radiate once again as I was slowly lifted off my feet and I was hovering out of the tower building more and more pressure in my rocket pack. I saw Rainbow Dash come next to me with her wings beating in the air.

"Okay, this time, I count down."

"Fine."

"3...2...1...GO!"

Immediately, I shot forward again and left Rainbow Dash in the dust. I was ruthless enough to apply more speed to myself as everything pretty much became a blur. I looked back and saw a rainbow colored streak rapidly gaining distance on me.

Oh shit.

"Activate afterburners."

I lurched forward again and heard a banging noise, indicating I had broken the sound barrier. I dove down and pulled off two barrel rolls as I was lining the canopy of the Everfree Forest. I looked up, and sure enough, I saw that same Rainbow colored streak above me. And, IT WAS PASSING ME!

"Oh no you don't."

I rocketed upwards and pulled off two more barrel rolls. I caught Rainbow Dash by surprise as I emerged in front of her, causing her to loose control. She spiraled a bit and flew right back up. She flashed me a dirty look and I just smiled at her, causing her to start laughing. I suddenly saw the turn around point and angled my wings to do a rapid 180 degree turn. I succeeded in the maneuver, and I found myself heading back towards Canterlot. I looked back and sure enough, Rainbow Dash was gaining. But, something about her was different. She was going at supersonic speeds, yet I didn't hear a banging noise. My eyepiece scanned her, and the results were incredible.

Apparently, she had a mach cone surrounding her, but it didn't dissipate. The mach cone itself was forming around her and started to change different colors. I had no idea what was going on, until the mach cone began to spark bolts of multi-colored lightning around it. I braced myself for what was going to happen next.

BOOM!

Rainbow Dash shot forward at speeds that my eyepiece read as "ERROR". I looked around me, and I was in a huge ring of rainbows that seemed to constantly expand outwards. Immediately, I knew, I had lost the race again.

"Aw god damnit."

I arrived at the same tower that we originally took off from and I touched down gently. I looked around trying to find the cyan mare who would obviously rub her victory in my face. I could not find any sigh of Rainbow Dash anywhere. Suddenly, I turned around and I found a rainbow colored streak approaching me with incredible speed. My eyepiece calculated that it would crash into me if it didn't slow down. I waited for a few second, but it only slowed down so much, it would still crash into me with rather high speed. I braced myself for impact too late as i saw rainbow Dash tackle me down. I found myself on the ground trying to recover. I opened my eyes, and I found Rainbow Dash giggling in my face. I broke into a laughing fit as Rainbow Dash spoke up.

"Oh Celestia! That was the most fun I ever had in such a long time!"

I smiled back at her. She was just so cute when she was over-joyed.

"Glad to see you happy, Dashie."

Rainbow Dash then planted a kiss on my forehead. I stared at her wide-eyed.

"I...uh..."

Rainbow Dash smiled at me again, and she hopped off.

"Come on silly, we gotta get to lunch soon."

I quickly wiped my smile off of my face and felt quite embarrassed about myself. I felt my cheeks getting hotter when I passed other ponies with this cyan colored mare who kept looking at me and grinning. We strode down the hallway until we came to a pair of towering wooden doors. It read in fine cursive: DINING HALL.

"Well, this must be the place."

The doors seemed to open themselves as I feasted my eyes on a massive dining hall. I found five other mares in seats, along with Celestia. No, I will NOT say "princess". I recognized one of the mares as Twilight Sparkle, but the others still remained a mystery to me. One had a pink mane and wings tucked at its side, another had a purple mane, white fur and a horn, another with a pink mane and pink fur, an orange pony that had a blonde mane and what seemed to be a cowboy hat. Immediately, the white furred unicorn shrieked, the yellow pegasus slunk down, and the pink pony gasped and rose out of her seat.

"Rainbow Dash! What is tarnation is that?!", the orange pony asked with a heavy southern accent.

"And what is it wearing?!", the unicorn asked appearing all shocked.

"Uh, will it hurt us Rainbow Dash?", the yellow pegasus asked with a large hint of nervousness.

"Omigosh! Omigosh! Omigosh! What is that Rainbow Dash?! Is it an alien?! Or a creature you found in the Everfree Forest?! What is is? Huh? Huh?Huh?", the pink pony babbled all over the place while continuously hopping up and down.

Princess Celestia made no comments, as if she waited for me to do something. I turned to Rainbow Dash.

"Help...me...", I pleaded.

"Oh! Everypony, this is Ben. He may look scary, but he's really gentle and won't hurt any of you. He's actually pretty cool too."

Rainbow said the last line with a little blush. Thankfully, none of the other ponies noticed it. They all looked at Celestia, who gave a nod. One by one, they introduced themselves.

"Ah, hello, mah' name is Applejack. Pleased to meat you partner."

"My name is Rarity. But, we are really going to have to discuss your sense of fashion later darling. Then again, any friend of Rainbow Dash's is a friend of mine."

"Um, hello...my name is Flutershy. I'm pleased to meet you Ben...if that's okay with you..."

Okay, I guess I'm really going to be careful of what I say to the yellow mare. I shifted my head slightly and saw the pink mare with a look like her face was going to explode. She was watering at the eyes and her cheeks were getting dangerously over bloated.

"Let's get this over with."

The pink mare took a deep breath in and i braced my self for a barrage of word missiles. Right as the pink mare let out the word "Hi!", Applejack quickly shut her mouth with her hoof and began to chew her out a bit.

"Okay, just say your name. Is that fine with you?"

"Mmmph mph!", she said through Applejack's hoof. Applejack took her hoof off of the pink pony's mouth and looked at it in disgust at the slobber all over it.

"Hi! My name is Pinkie Pie! Sooooooo glad to meet you!", the pink mare shouted while shaking my hand fast enough that I was worried it might snap off my body. I jerked my hand away gently and I just nodded. Wow, these ponies really warmed up to me fast. Celestia instructed me to take a seat, which I did. Almost immediately, the other mares wanted to know more about me.

"So, what is with your cloths? I'm trying to not be a harsh critic, but why would you have a picture of, uh, what ever that is on your shirt?"

"Well, where I come from, fashion is much different than here. Good fashion now is pretty much having not too elegant, yet not too shabby clothing. The only reason why we wear cloths is because humans, which is what I am, don't have any fur, so we wear cloths to stay warm. Also, nudity is not acceptable in public. And the picture on my shirt, I'll have to tell you later."

"So, where do you live?"

I looked at Celestia, and she nodded. I spent a huge amount of time describing Earth, what everyday life was like, and what technology humans have (in a nutshell). I described some of the bad things about Earth to. Such as violence, poverty, disease, hatred, crime, and all sorts of other things that the ponies found horrifying. I didn't describe what war was, as it was what I thought to be the most sensitive subject.

"Wow, your world seems really dangerous. I still can't believe you didn't know how you got here."

"Me neither. I could still think of a million more people who deserve a second chance in a new world like this."

All of the ponies looked at me a little sad and depressed, so I decided to change the subject.

"How about we could all do something together. you know, as friends", I said thinking that 'friendship' was highly valued here.

"Okie Dokie Lokie!", Pinkie Pie bounced once, allowing the other mares to agree.

Suddenly, the doors to what appeared to be the kitchen swung open and a large line of stallions emerged with a large array of covered silver platters. My stomach gargled as I realized I haven't eaten in a whole day. I was about to dig in, until i lifted the cover off of my dish myself. It was just a salad.

"Uh, is this the appetizer?"

Celestia looked up with a confused look on her face.

"No, this is the main course. Is there something wrong?"

Suddenly, it hit me. I was in a world where ponies were a dominant species and civilized. They were herbivores.

"You realize I am an omnivore, right?"

I saw the rest of the ponies exchange confused glances while Twilight and Celestia looked at each other nervously.

"An omni-what now?", Applejack questioned.

"I eat both plants and meat."

The ponies' mouths hung open, while Flutershy fainted.

"Meat?! Why would anyone eat that? That's just...wrong!", I heard Rainbow Dash.

"Well, I have to get nutrients that are in meat, such as protein."

"Unfortunately Benjamin, we do not store any kind of meat with us.", Celestia said.

"You won't eat my animals, will you?", Flutershy asked after recovering from her fainting.

"Of course not. I eat cow, pig, chicken, and a few others. I know it may sound disgusting, but I know I won't go charging into your house and eat everything. No human I know would do that."

Not true. I found a scrawny old man who kept begging me for food in an Afghan village during my service. I could see the guy's bone through his skin. It was just god-awful. I had the heart to give him some of my rations.

"And wait, did you say that there is no meat here Celestia?"

"No Ben, there is no meat."

I felt my eye twitch a bit. I loved the taste of meat. But now, I am in a world that though nothing but peace and friendship, yet they couldn't grill a burger. I felt my inner rage building up as I tried to force it down, but it was no use. The rage meter went up to "shit has hit the fucking fan point".

"No meat...FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!"

Well, the crap is at its boiling point. I heavily appreciate all feed back for this story. Happy reading!

PS: I COULD consider another OC into the story...but probably not.
