Gundam Wings, The Story Of a New Beginning
Chapter 2: The First to Die (Edited Slightly)
Previous Chapter Next Chapter"Ugh."
I forced open my eyes once I was sure I had regained conciseness. I stared out into a white room that had quite a few lights coming down on me. I easily recognized that this was some sort of hospital room, but where was I? I looked down and saw that I had been stripped of my combat fatigues. Then, remembering the cyan mare from before, I looked down at my half-naked body.
"How could they have removed my fatigues? Don't they-"
My thought was interrupted by a horse coming into the room.
"Oh right", I thought to myself,",I am in a universe that harbors small horses. How could I forget?"
The horse looked at me quite alarmed, but quickly calmed down as it began to speak.
"Uh, hello. My name is Nurse Red Heart. If you don't mind me asking, who are you?"
I quickly looked around the room and found my backpack on a chair and my M4A1 assault rifle leaning against the wall. It was quite obvious they had no idea what it was, nor what I could do with it.
"Where am I?"
"Do you mean the hospital, or did you come from far away?"
"VERY far away"
The nurse took consideration as she continued.
"Well, I've never seen anypony like you, so I believe you might not know that you're in Equestria."
"Equestria?"
"Yes. You are currently in Ponyville right now, and you fracture some parts of your ribcage."
"Wait, how come you said you have never seen anyone like me, yet you let me into a building with a ton of other sick ponies. Arne't you concerned about their safety?"
"Well, of corse, but wouldn't your kind do the same?"
Oh god. They had no idea. I began to quickly play back a memory in my mind. We were trying to destroy a convoy that had a enemy militia war lord traveling with it, and a shit-load of weapons. We had received AC-130 support, and us marines were to check if there were any survivors. The AC-130 nailed a bridge with its howitzer and the convoy fell down into ravine below. As we were checking, Corporal Jameson found a 6-year old girl in the back of one of the vehicles. The reason of the girl's presence in the convoy still remained a mystery to me, but we had much bigger matters. The girl was critically injured and needed immediate medical attention. I radioed high command and explained everything to them. I said that she could be airlifted to a military hospital. High command refused and told me to transport her to an Afghan hospital. I cringed at the thought. There as no way she could survive in those conditions. I argued and argued, but it was no use. The next thing I know, a Black Hawk arrived on the scene and carried her away to the Afghan hospital. I kept bitting my finger nails knowing the girl would not survive A few days later at the base, a marine had told me the girl had just died. I never felt more depressed in my life knowing a innocent 6-year old had died due to our careless actions. It kept paining me to remember that little girl's face, right before the Black Hawk took off.
"Something like that."
Nurse Red Heart brightened at the comment.
"So what do I owe you?", I asked realizing that whatever I had was probably worthless in...wherever I am.
"Oh nothing dear, you looked pretty hurt back there, so I decided we should fix you up as fast as possible."
Okay, this HAD to be heaven.
"So, what is your name?"
I was about to speak before realizing something. What if I had been captured and put on a hallucinative sleep drug? No, I died from a grenade. There was no way I could survive that. But, something tells me that I could trust these multi-colored ponies.
"Sergeant Lilienfeld."
The nurse looked up.
"Oh, are part of a guard force or something?"
"Ugh, this is going to be a long story..."
"Wait, somepony want's to see you."
The very familiar winged cyan mare strode in before my eyes. She seemed to brighten up as she saw me and smiled.
"Wow! Your okay!"
I tried to smile, but I just couldn't.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
She leaned forward for an embrace and placed her legs around me and squeezed me gently. I was about to pry her off when I realized that my ribs didn't act up when she hugged me.
"How am I not feeling anything in my chest?"
The nurse was about to exit the room before turning around.
"We used unicorn magic to reattach and mend your bones into position. It really doesn't take a long time. We were able to do it overnight."
Overnight? Unicorn magic? What the fuck?! I looked at a nearby clock. 5:30 AM
The cyan colored mare lifted herself up and smiled down at me once again. She hopped off my bed and began to talk.
"So, if you don't mind me asking? What are you?"
"Haven't you seen a human before?"
The mare looked up before replying.
"No."
"Well, you can call me Sergeant Lilienfeld if you wish."
"Sergeant? Are you a guard?"
"I'll have to explain to you sometime else. And you are?"
"Oh! I'm Rainbow Dash! The fasted and awsomest flyer in all of Equestria! No one has ever beaten my record for pulling off the Sonic Rainboom!"
I took all of these facts into consideration. Okay, Rainbow Dash was a very suitable name for this mare, awsomest isn't even a word, Equestria really suited their appearance as they were all Equines, and Sonic Rainboom? I've seen some F18s pull of sonic booms while going at mach speeds, but could this horse really break the sound barrier? I heavily doubt it.
"You know, awsomest isn't even a word.", I chuckled.
Rainbow Dash laughed a little while, and pulled me into a smile. God, she looked so cute when she was happy.
"So, what's all that stuff over there?"
I looked at my backpack, my M4A1 assault rifle, and...my duffle bag? That was supposed to be back at base Echo-5. How could I have ended up with it if I wasn't near it? I decided to ask questions later and spill some of the beans.
"That's my backpack over there, and my duffle bag. I really suggest you-"
Before I could finnish my sentence, Rainbow Dash had somehow unzipped my backpack (WTF?!) and was looking through it. She pulled out a spare clip for my M4A1 out from the side pocket. I opened my eyes wide at the sight of the M4A1 extended ammo clip.
"What's this?", she said through the clip she was holding in her mouth.
"I really think you shouldn't touch that."
"Why?"
"It's quite dangerous if used by the wrong hands...er...hooves."
She immediately, yet gently set the clip back in the backpack. She then feasted her eyes on the M4A1 rifle. Uh-oh.
"What's this?", she asked while poking at it. I thought for a minute. If I told her, then she might think I was dangerous. If i didn't, she would know I would be hiding something and become more suspicious about the M4A1. I sighed as I decided to carefully tell her the truth.
"Okay, but before I tell you, you must trust that I wouldn't hurt any of you. Okay? That is a weapon."
She immediately stopped poking at it.
"A weapon?! Wait, are you a spy?!"
"What did I just say, Rainbow Dash?"
"Oh, sorry, I just get worked up like this at times. So, do you grab it like this?", she said as she took an impossible hold of the rifle with her hooves and held it by the barrel, like a golf club. She rose it up, which I suspected she thought it was some kind of club. Mental facepalm.
"I doesn't seem like it could do a lot of damage. The Equestrian guards' spears could hurt someone more than this."
"It isn't to be held like a club Rainbow Dash, it's a gun."
She set the rifle down back against the wall carefully.
"A what?"
"A gun is a weapon that can fire a metal slab about this big at 833 meters per second."
Rainbow Dash took a look at the rifle that as leaning against the wall, and looked back at me.
"Doesn't look like it would hurt much."
"You have no idea."
I was shot countless times in my service. I remember a 50.cal round grazing the side of my body. Hurt like a mother fucker. I decided to change the subject now.
"Hey, do you mind if you could get my duffle bag?"
"Oh, this one?", she asked, which I nodded to. She trotted over and picked the bag up with her teeth, and set it down next to me. I stretched a bit before realizing something.
"How much longer am I going to be in here?"
"Well, Nurse Red Heart said that you are okay to go out. We just need to check you out."
"We?"
Immediately, Rainbow Dash's cheeks grew red as she realized what she had just said.
"What? I-I didn't mean it like that!", she stuttered.
"Right.", I smiled evilly.
I slowly rose myself and took my belongings. I hoped that the Equestrians wouldn't get the wrong idea with an assault rifle in my arms. It still looked like a club. Rainbow Dash and I check out after receiving some nervous glances around the lobby. The administrator seemed to be in a hurry to get me signed out, which I was a little thankful for. Right as we stepped out, every single pony in the streets of this so-called "Ponyville" turned their heads and immediately began screaming and running for their homes. I just stared dumbfounded at the reaction I have just caused.
"Ugh, it's just like Zecora all over again."
"Who?"
"She's a zebra that lives in the Everfree forest over there.", she said while pointing in some random direction,"When she came to Ponyville, everypony ran for their homes and panicked. Even though Zecora would bring them no harm."
"What did you do?"
Rainbow Dash looked at me a little sheepishly and scratched the ground with her hoof.
"Let me guess, you joined the others."
She nodded guiltfully at me. I just smiled an ruffled her mane.
"Hey! Stop that!", she giggled as she suddenly found herself looking at the five digits from my hand.
"What are those? Are they claws?"
I stared down at my fingers and let out a smile.
"Uh, no, these are fingers.", I said to her waiting for a response. She blinked twice.
"Their little appendages that humans use for grasping objects. Like...", my voice trailed off while I looked for an example.
"Like this.", I said as I picked up a rock while slowly closing my fingers around it.
She seemed a little spooked by this, but she excepted it nonetheless.
"Oh! That's cool! Do all humans have those?"
I remembered a cadet who was immediately booted for having disfigured fingers. Damn guy didn't even have a thumb.
"Yeah, we all have them."
"So, where are you from?"
I suspected that this had to be some other universe, or planet, or dimension, or...what the fuck ever.
"Have you ever heard of Chicago?"
"Uh, doesn't ring a bell."
"I come from this place called Earth. It's a planet that is home to at least 7 billion humans right now.", I explained. Rainbow Dash was completely dumbfounded by the population count.
"7 BILLION?! Dang! That must have been a crowded planet!"
"Oh, it is. And, I live in a city called Chicago. The south side to be exact"
"How is it there?"
Suddenly, I wished that I hadn't brought up the subject. I had the worst experiences as a child in Chicago. Not just the get bullied by the people at school worst. I'm talking about...never mind.
"How is it there? It is just plain horrible."
Rainbow Dash was taken back by the sudden comment.
"How was it so bad?"
"Well, first off, there is a huge crime rate there. Murder is something you always see on the news everyday. There is a countless amount of gangs there, and where I come from, people always bar their windows to stop people from breaking in and stealing all of their belongings. Second, pollution. It is quite hazy, but not from the weather, but from the smoke and car exhaust that crowd the streets every day. Third, I rather not talk about.", I finish my explanation of Chicago.
Rainbow Dash was just horror struck by my explanation of my home.
"How could you live somewhere like that?! It must have been awful!"
"Oh, it was. But I had endured all of the things that had happened to me and Chicago all the way up to when I joined the Marines."
"Marines?"
"That, my dear Rainbow Dash, is a completely different story, for a completely different time.", I said as I shifted the position of my duffle bag that was slung over my shoulder.
"Wait, if you came from a different planet, then that means...YOUR AN ALIEN!"
"Oh god. Look, I already said I wouldn't hurt any of you. And to be honest, I don't know how I got here. First minute I-"
I decided to stop my sentence, as I would eventually lead to my death. Fucking insurgent piece of shit.
"So, do you have a place to stay at all?"
"Well, no. But I really fell like a burden to suddenly move in with some one."
"Oh! maybe you can stay with me in Cloudsdale!"
Cloudsdale? Oh, god that sounds way too much like Scottsdale.
"What is Cloudsdale?"
"Oh! It's a beautiful city in the clouds where I live and work! But, can you walk on clouds?"
Again, heaven.
"No, and it's scientifically impossible to do that."
"Well, my friend Twilight sure knows a thing or two about science. And she could prove you wrong!"
"So, what do we do?"
"Well, silly, we go to Twilight's house!"
I saw Rainbow Dash trot away as I tried my best to keep up with the galloping mare.
Sorry about the delay guys, and about the errors in chapter one. As I promised there was more!
