Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Mother and Son

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Just as Twilight left Spike pulled a book off the shelves “Mum why don’t we have many books around here?”

Crystal sighed “This is the Barracks and we don’t have a lot of room.”

Spike blinked “Sorry I must admit I miss the smell of books sometimes, when Twilight left I was the unofficial Librarian of Golden Oaks Library.”

Crystal smiled “Well I can take you to the Klugetown Library.”

Spike bounced up and down excitedly “Thank you mum.” The two walked along the bronze streets as bronze pipes pumped out steam into the air, they arrived at a large wooden building.

They entered the Library and took a seat, Spike frowned as he reached out to a book and flew over to him with a purple glow. Crystal raised an eyebrow “You can do magic?”

Spike smiled “Well it wasn’t that hard, all creatures can do magic if they really try just some species can do it easier than others.”

Crystal smiled “You are really well learned.”

Spike nodded “When you have lived with Twilight for a long time you will be, she loved to lecture others at least she used to.”

Crystal frowned “What do you mean?”

Spike sighed “Twilight is not the same pony I knew all those years ago, she feels like a stranger, someone wearing her shell. I try to put on a brave face for her but she and I are on different paths now. I accepted it when she left, if she wanted me to stay then she would have taken me with her.”

Crystal sighed “You could try to get to know the new Twilight, she is still a good pony.”

Spike turned away “Twilight is more now, sometimes one must seek out a new path for themselves. Twilight is an immortal Alicorn as well, we will all fade from her life as time claims us. I am will not bridge our faded connection.”

Crystal nodded “You remind of your father he always was wise. He was the one who came up with plans, I always the one who just followed his lead.”

Spike frowned “You didn’t tell me much about him.”

Crystal sighed “You father was brave and bold he always believed that one day we would be freed from the slavery of the Saddle Arabians, he would never have sought vengeance for it. I wish we had burned their city to the ground, made them pay for what they had done to us yet Twilight spared their city.”

Spike nodded “He is right, we don’t seek vengeance because in doing so we become the monsters we hate, hatred is the source of so much despair and cruelty it leave us blind to the darkness within ourselves until we destroy all we love.”

Crystal frowned “Darkness is not bad, Twilit uses it as do the Umbrum.”

Spike shook his head “Not that kind of darkness, it is the force of cruelty within that makes us want to hurt each other. Twilight uses the darkness is service of good things the light within us hope, joy, laughter.”

Crystal sighed “You’re right Spike.”

Spike smiled “Come on let’s get some ice-cream.”

Crystal laughed “Of course come on.” Spike levitated the book up to the shelf before they left.

Crystal asked “Spike I’m just curious who do you think would cause Equestria to dissapear?”

Spike frowned “I don’t know out of everyone who could actually do that and out of everyone who is here now…” he took a deep breath “Celestia.”

Crystal blinked “Why would she do that?”

Spike grimaced “You weren’t there, I took some days off to spend with her and even went to a few visits to cities with her. I paid attention, there were hate signs everywhere, a few ponies even tried to assault her in the streets. One even stabbed her in the foreleg, I burnt a few ponies who got too close.”

Crystal’s eyes widened “What happened to the land of Friendship and Harmony that Twilight regaled with me so fondly. How could they do such a thing.”

Spike sighed “Ponies talk a big game but more often then not they allow bigotry and arrogance blind them. It took Twilight’s influence to allow Ponyville to see Zecora as more than freaky Voodoo Witch Doctor that lived in the Everfree, without her light and with the anger they felt at Princess Celestia for her failures I fear Equestria began to lose what made it such a precious place.”

Crystal sighed “I don’t think Twilight or Luna would be happy to hear this. It will bring a dark day in the history of our world if even the Alicorn of the Sun fell to the hatred and despair.”

Spike frowned “Dark days are upon us, I just hope the world can weather them” little did the know of the events that would happen that night.

Author's Notes:

I know this a filler chapter but I think it is a nice break from all the big stuff that is happening. I'm not very good at filler so I hope you like this chapter.
