The afternoon sun streaked through the trees of the Everfree Forest. Within the strange greenery, numerous animals could be heard throughout, creating a serene kind of peace. But everything was silenced when a pack of four manticores came barreling through the foliage, panic stricken. From where they had come, a deep rumbling and numerous roars could be heard growing louder. Then. tearing right through the greenery and giving chase to the pack was the Family of a Lifetime, being led by Blue and her Raptor Squad.
Rainbow and Scootaloo were running parallel to Tyrannosaurus and Indominus, staying just behind the raptors and closing in on their meals.
"You were right, boys," Rainbow called out over the rumbling of their giant steps. "This is exciting!"
"Stick with us, Rainbow, it's about to get even more exciting," Indominus replied.
"By the time we're done chasing our dinner, we'll have made real hunters out of you girls." Blue said from up ahead.
Once they were within range, the pack made their move. Blue and Delta dove for the rear manticore on the left while Echo and Charlie jumped onto the back of the beast on their right. Both manticores went down once the raptors dug their claws into their hide and began biting and slashing away at their flesh. The Rexes and their girls pulled ahead and went after the last two manticores, who were even more scared from seeing the enormous carnivores and giant ponies closing in on them. Rainbow and Scootaloo took up opposite sides of their targets, glaring their red eyes and flashing their sharp teeth. The Manticores were so focused on the ponies baring their fangs at them, it left their necks exposed to the carnivores, who lunged at their prey in sync with their girls.
Both manticores were bitten on both sides of their necks with such force that the bones were instantly broken and the animals collapsed, paralyzed and helpless. Indominus and Tyrannosaurus placed a foot on their meals as they bellowed into the forest. Rainbow and Scootaloo joined in with their own roars before they hauled the bodies onto the rexes and carried the meals back to where the raptors had brought down their prey.
"You two have got quite some talent as hunters," Blue said with some manticore flesh in her mouth.
"It's definitely easier than the first time we tried this," said Scootaloo. She was still nervous about eating meat ever since she had bitten her first manticore during her bonding time with the Wonderbolts.
"It gets easier with time, Scootaloo. Besides," Tyrannosaurus nuzzled Scootaloo's face to congratulate her on a successful hunt. "We're not making you eat these if you don't want to. We'd just like you to try it one time."
"I know how our girls might love a little taste of manticore meat," Indominus said as he uprooted a tree and began breaking it up into smaller logs. He then used a tiny blast to create a small fire, then tore a leg off of his meal, put a stick through it and began cooking it over the flame.
The dinosaurs watched in amusement while they ate as Indominus prepared a small sample for Scootaloo to try. He was already certain that Rainbow would like it, especially after the meal they had during their honeymoon with the roasted boar. He poked the arm with a claw to test the meat and see if it was tenderized enough for the girls to have, and lifted it from the fire when it was ready. Scootaloo was unsure about trying the arm, but the drool coming from her mouth was the same sign Indominus had seen in Rainbow the first time she had tried meat.
"It's ok Scootaloo, just one bite and if you don't like it, you don't have to eat the rest," Indominus said calmly.
"You sure dad?"
"Trust him Scootaloo, Indominus knows what he's talking about. I went through the same thing on our honeymoon, and you're drooling up a storm," Rainbow said as she pointed at Scootaloo's mouth.
The pegasus wiped a hoof across her mouth and was surprised to find that she had indeed been drooling. She flushed a little in embarrassment as Rainbow took a leaf and helped her wipe away the rest of the drool.
"This happened to you too, Mom?"
"Sure did, it's a little perk of having our lovers' power being part of us now. Nothing serious, just a little craving that needs to be fed."
"Oh, ok. Just for you guys," Scootaloo said reluctantly. Rainbow stood beside her daughter and joined her in taking a bite from the manticore arm.
The pegasi each pulled back with a chunk of flesh in their mouths. Scootaloo took her time with each bite, and was surprised that the taste wasn't as awful as she thought. When she swallowed, the filly was stunned that she had eaten meat and had actually liked it instead of hating it like she thought.
"So, what do you think," Rainbow asked.
"Definitely stranger than I expected. I don't hate it, but it does taste pretty good."
"Told ya," Rainbow said as she scooped Scootaloo up into the air. "We wouldn't make you eat something we knew you wouldn't like."
"That's my girl," Indominus said as he nuzzled Scootaloo's face before Rainbow set her down. He walked over to his kill and was about to eat when Scootaloo asked him.
"You're not going to make me try the organs next, are you, dad?" All of the dinosaurs perked their heads up from their kills after they heard Scootaloo's question.
"No Scootaloo, I wouldn't even consider making you or Rainbow try that. That part of the kill is for us alone, I don't want to see our girls eating bodies like us."
"We're not going to make you two into killers," said Tyrannosaurus.
"Trying just a little meat is fine for us," said Delta. Blue, Echo and Charlie all nodded their heads in agreement.
Scootaloo was relieved at the responses the dinosaurs gave her and joined Rainbow in having the rest of the manticore arm. Indominus ripped open the chest of his kill and began chomping and devouring the organs within reach of his teeth. The family spent the afternoon feasting on their kills until there were only a few bones and pieces of fur left, then they started making their way back towards the castle.
Two months had passed since Indominus had been crowned King of Equestria. So many ponies now held him, and the rest of his family in the highest regard and with the utmost respect. The ones that doubted him cast aside their disregard after hearing that Ra had been the one to make Indominus the new king. His new title meant he could go to any corner of Equestria to visit the different homes, so all the ponies that might've had some fear of him since his Immortal Phoenix issue, got to know him more personally. Everypony he met was initially afraid of him at first, but after they spent time bonding with the hybrid dinosaur and saw that the rumors Soarin had tried to spread about his violent nature weren't true, they grew to trust the hybrid's change and his promise to protect Equestria.
He had even helped Discord get his long overdue joy as well by being his best man at his wedding. While Indominus had been busy ruling over Equestria and meeting numerous ponies, Discord had decided to ask Fluttershy the big question. After seeing everything that Discord had done for the Family of a Lifetime, and even saving Indominus's life for Rainbow, she was more than delighted to accept his proposal. Her friends didn't completely approve of her choice, but she had Pinkie's, Rarity's and even Rainbow's support. Pinkie was a sucker for romance nowadays, and since Rainbow and Rarity had lovers in Spike and Indominus, they really couldn't say anything against Fluttershy marrying Discord.
It had been a lovely occasion, even if Discord had gotten worse cold feet than Indominus. The hybrid dinosaur had to yank him down from the ceiling several times, even though he really couldn't do anything to stop Discord from just teleporting back. After teasing Discord about not loving Fluttershy enough to be her husband, he stirred up enough confidence in the Lord of Chaos to get him out to the alter.
"You might be an open book when it came to me, Discord, but I'm far more straightforward than you'll ever be on the subject," Indominus thought to himself as he watched the draconequess sweat nervously at the alter.
Fluttershy had worn a beautiful silky silver, butterfly wedding dress, with birds holding up the veil. Indominus wished his hybrid friend good luck as the awestruck Discord kept his gaze on the bride as she walked to the alter. After the newlyweds said their 'i do's' and Rainbow and Indominus performed their united sonic rainboom, Discord couldn't keep his claw and paw anywhere but holding Fluttershy close to him.
"Well Fluttershy, now you're the second mare in our group to get married," Rainbow said as she and the dinosaurs gave their congratulations to the newlyweds.
"Guess this means we'll be arranging less days to have our guys night, huh Indominus?"
"I wouldn't say that, Discord. We'll still have plenty of time to slaughter monsters and demons, just don't make our girls prisoners and it'll be fine."
"But you're the King now."
"Yes, and I'm not bound by any rules, just like you."
"The only rule he has, is that he has to give me a very special every so often," Rainbow said teasingly.
"That's the only rule I'll follow," Indominus replied.
"We're not gonna be like that, Fluttershy. I won't do anything you're uncomfortable with," Discord said to his wife.
"Well, maybe one time would be nice," Fluttershy said as she blushed at him. Discord's face turned a bright shade of red as the fact that she wanted to 'do it' with him, slammed into his brain. Causing a wide grin to spread across his face and his eyes to turn into beating pink hearts.
By the end of Indominus's first month as King, both hybrids were married to the girls of their dreams.
In the course of those two months, the dinosaurs had also earned the acceptance and respect of most of the ponies in Equestria, but not all of them. There were some powerful unicorns in parts of Canterlot that still saw the dinosaurs as a danger to all of Equestria. A particular unicorn by the name of Chancellor Neighsay had such bitter distaste towards the dinosaurs before the Immortal Phoenix ever became an issue. In his eyes all of the dinosaurs weren't guardians, but savage behemoths waiting for the right moment to strike and tear Equestria apart. Seeing Indominus ruthlessly beating the Wonderbolts and the destructive force he used against Soarin as the Immortal WorldBreaker, were just more proof for Neighsay that the dinosaurs had no right to live among ponies. The dinosaurs did get into rough discussions with him and various members of his council, but Indominus's newfound status, combined with the support of the Princesses and most of Equestria, meant there wasn't much Neighsay could do against the animals that had saved their new home so many times.
But dealing with an arrogant, stubborn and rash unicorn was the last thing on Indominus's mind. He had a more pressing matter that kept him constantly busy: keeping an eye on Rainbow's health. Ever since Ra had told them that they were to have a daughter, Indominus had been monitoring Rainbow for all the signs and symptoms. He had noticed that she was getting tired more easily during the first two months of his reign, and took more naps than usual after her Wonderbolt sessions. Despite having the Immortal WorldBreaker, she seemed to be tiring more easily and her stomach appeared to have gotten larger in just those two months. A week later, after they had finished their latest training session, Indominus was helping Rainbow out of her uniform. Her stomach had gotten slightly bigger in that time, and it made him nervous to see that it had actually managed to grow in such a short time. As the hybrid gently pressed his hand on her stomach, he could swear that he felt what seemed like a little heartbeat, but with an echo to it.
"What are you feeling, Indominus? Is she developing yet," Rainbow asked as she laid back on a bench in the locker room.
"I'm not sure what to make of it, Rainbow. I don't know how to describe it exactly, but it feels like there's a little heartbeat inside you with some kind of echo to it."
"Sounds like you two already have a young one on the way," said Spitfire. Since the ordeal with Soarin, she had much more respect for Indominus and Rainbow than before. She was less strict with them, knowing that Indominus was now a true king, and because she didn't want to lose Rainbow again or blow her chance at redemption.
"Yes ma'am. Ra told us we were gonna have a daughter."
"Congratulations Rainbow," said Fleetfoot. "You'll be the first Wonderbolt to have kids, along with your hybrid husband and family."
"Then why do you seem nervous, Indominus," asked Spitfire.
"I don't know what to say on the matter. I couldn't even see a heat signature when I saw the first sign, and her stomach has grown again in just one week."
"I've never heard of a baby growing that fast before," said High Winds as she looked at Rainbow's expanded stomach.
"You aren't having any late night pleasure times, are you, Indominus," Spitfire asked in a slightly sly tone. She had an idea of what could be causing Rainbow's slight fatigue, since she had caught their Hearth's Warming love moments.
"Actually, we've toned down on that, ma'am. I've been falling asleep before we even get the chance," said Rainbow. "I do miss getting to have them with the hybrid that saved me." She nuzzled against Indominus and the affection helped relax the nervous hybrid. "I'd like to have at least one night where I don't fall asleep on him."
"Well, after our show next week you'll get that chance. lovebirds," said Spitfire. "Once we're done with our performance, we'll make the training easier for you, Rainbow. I don't want to risk you hurting your child during practice."
"First, I'll pay the doctor a visit after the show, find out how the baby's doing and then we can decide on how hard I should practice," Rainbow replied.
"That's a smart idea, Rainbow. Seems my brains have been rubbing off on you," said Indominus.
"Yeah, when I'm not busy banging them out of your head in the hot tub."
"There's the Rainbow Dash we all know," said Fleetfoot jokingly. The Wonderbolts playfully laughed at the slightly steamy comment, and Indominus was glad that he had given them a chance to make up for their past mistakes. These moments helped take his mind off of the worry that Rainbow would be giving birth to their child, and what the birth might do to her in the process.
"All joking aside Rainbow, promise me you'll be careful when the show comes around," said Spitfire with true concern in her voice. "We almost lost you once already, and I really don't want you to lose your daughter before you even get to hold her."
"I won't, Spitfire. I'm taking this matter very seriously. Just like when I made sure Scootaloo was safe from her parents, I won't put my baby in any danger. I made a promise to the Winged Dragon himself, and I don't break a promise to a god that helped me save my husband's life."
The two pegasi shook wings in acknowledgement and the lovebirds made their way out of the compound. Spitfire watched them go until they were out of sight. Her eyes seemed to be lingering on where Indominus and Rainbow had disappeared into the sky, until Fleetfoot walked up beside her.
"When do you plan on letting them know?"
"I can't. I know how much they love each other, and I can't tear that apart again." Spitfire flew over to her locker and changed out of her uniform as she continued. "They defied the odds to be together again, and I can't come between that just because I might be having an attraction of my own."
"But you can't keep it secret forever, ma'am. One of these days, either she'll notice or Indominus will see it for himself," said Fleetfoot.
"Ever since he became part of the team, you've been eyeing Indominus differently. You do know that he'll never choose another mare over Rainbow, right," High Winds asked.
"Of course I know that," Spitfire said as she turned to face her fellow Wonderbolts. "It's just.....I'd like to experience what they get to do every night. I had hopes that Soarin could provide an experience like that, but after his run-in with the dinosaurs, I lost what little chance there was. His obsession with revenge drove him away from any thoughts of being around any of us and besides, we were nothing but pawns to him. After I saw part of what they did together on Hearth's Warming Eve, it made me envious of them. I'd just like to know what it's like to have that kind of moment with a creature like Indominus Rex. But even if I do want that, I'll never stand between him and Rainbow Dash again. The last time we did that, it nearly killed us."
"Uh huh," Misty Fly said, shuttering at the memory of what their last fight against Indominus had been like. Knowing that he could've killed them at that point, with or without the Immortal WorldBreaker state, still haunted the Wonderbolts.
"Yeah, we were really lucky he decided to give us another chance," said Surprise.
"Which is why Indominus doesn't need to know about this, no matter how much i'd like to have it. Besides, he has enough to worry about as it is."
The week of preparation for the Wonderbolt show went by as every day did for Indominus, keeping an eye on Rainbow's health, dealing with Neighsay and his constant criticisms over the hybrid's reign, and practicing for the performance. Scootaloo had done well to take care of Rainbow when she could when Indominus had to be away, and when she couldn't, the other dinosaurs tended to the pregnant mare as best they could. The dinosaurs had done good to keep Rainbow's pregnancy secret from the unbearable unicorn. If word got out that the Element of Loyalty was pregnant with the offspring of a hybrid dinosaur, the ponies that still resented the family would never leave them alone. But none of it had any impact on the King of Equestria, his wife and child's health was his main concern.
The performance took place over in Canterlot, with the stand being placed right against a hillside. In front of the stands were clouds stretched out for the Wonderbolts to fly through and around, with flags to act as directions. Tyrannosaurus had to be standing right next to the stand where the announcers were seated because of his massive size. Windy and Bow were seated by the CMC, Raptor Squad and the Mane five. Fluttershy had managed to convince Discord to attend, only because he was curious after hearing how fast Rainbow's development was progressing. The high society ponies that were present had a hard time being around the dinosaurs already, so having the Lord of Chaos in their presence as well, made them annoyingly uncomfortable. But they didn't say anything with five mouths of deadly teeth within range of their bodies. All of the dinosaurs were ready to take action if anything happened to Rainbow during the show, because there was an enormous drop between where the performance was going to be, and the ground below. If she were to get weak and fall out of the sky, the fall would put serious harm on her and her child, even with her WorldBreaker form.
"I hope Rainbow makes it through this show with no trouble," said Twilight.
"Normally ah wouldn't worry too much Twilight, but after seein' how much her belly has grown in just a week, ah'm agreein' with ya," said Applejack.
"Oh really, you ponies are being worrywarts on a simple matter," said Discord. "Carrying one child can't possibly put that much strain on a pony."
"Then you haven't seen our daughter lately, have you," asked Windy.
"No I haven't madam. I've been living a happy married life with Fluttershy, and doing what I can to take the stress out of Indominus's life with our Guys Nights. There hasn't been a time where I could check and see how the baby's been developing."
"Well here's your chance Discord," said Delta. "Here come the Wonderbolts now."
The Wonderbolts flew in from behind the hillside with Indominus flying directly above them. Tyrannosaurus could see him constantly glancing down at Rainbow Dash, and for good reason. What Twilight had said was true, in just a week, Rainbow's stomach had grown more and looked like a mare who was already over five months in. Discord conjured up a pair of binoculars to be sure he wasn't seeing things.
"Guess you ponies weren't kidding after all. That's way too big for it to be just one filly," said Discord.
"I told you, Discord," said Fluttershy. "This isn't like any other pregnancy, her child is part dinosaur too."
"I'm aware of that, Fluttershy. All I'm saying is that her stomach looks too expanded for there to be just one pony inside. I have to take a look after the show to see for myself what's really causing this."
Within the formation, Spitfire could see sweat slowly dripping down Rainbow's face. It was like the effort of trying to fly was consuming so much of her energy.
"Are you sure you're ok to do this, Rainbow? You're looking more exhausted than usual."
"Don't worry....about me, Spitfire. I'll....be alright," Rainbow said, sounding a little fatigued and out of breath. "Once this....is over, then....I can relax."
Spitfire wasn't buying Rainbow's tough act, she could see the slight strain in trying to maintain her flight and knew that Rainbow might barely be able to get through before she passed out. She glanced up at Indominus, who could see the worried look through her goggles. He silently nodded back at her in acknowledgement as he shifted his gaze back over to Rainbow, hoping that Rainbow would get through the performance without blacking out. The Wonderbolts went into a dive and began the start of their performance. As the team flew by in front of the crowds, Applejack could hear the Canterlot ponies talking amongst themselves once they caught a glimpse of Rainbow's stomach.
"Guess the cat's outta the bag now," Applejack whispered to Rarity as the others heard the chatter too.
"There's no trying to hide it anymore. Should've known that the truth was going to get out eventually," said Blue.
"We'll worry about that after the performance is over. The truth getting out is the last thing on Rainbow's mind at the moment," Tyrannosaurus said as he kept his eyes trained on the cyan pegasus.
Rainbow was flapping her wings harder than the other Wonderbolts in an attempt to keep pace with them. The climbs and scissoring turns were taking up great deals of her energy, because he could make out Rainbow gritting her teeth as the show progressed further on. With every pass that was made between the Wonderbolts, Rainbow was getting small doses of Indominus's energy to try and keep her flying. The fact that he needed to give her energy at all when he knew she had the world breaker form was rather unsettling. If Rainbow got too slow or exhausted, she would drop out of the sky during the wrong moment of the performance.
The Wonderbolts pulled together into a V formation and headed for the center of the clouds that laid before them. Spitfire took the lead with Rainbow on her left, Surprise on Rainbow's left and Indominus behind them so there was a wingpony to keep their eye on Rainbow just in case. As the Wonderbolts reached the clouds, they pulled up sharply, sending shock waves heading outwards. The shock waves left by Indominus had the hairs of everypony on end as he clawed for altitude. He knew they were nearing the end of the performance, but the sweat falling back onto his face told him that Rainbow didn't have long until she gave out. From the stands, the others could see Rainbow was slowing down behind her teammates and getting more sluggish in her flight.
"This has to be the end of the show. I don't think Rainbow can stay in flight much longer," said Twilight in concern.
"Come on honey, you can do this," Windy said as her daughter caught up with the Wonderbolts, who were suspended in the air and getting ready to roll over back towards the clouds.
The brief moment of not having to use her wings gave Rainbow a moment to catch her breath before she rolled over too. As she flipped onto her back and began her dive, Indominus whispered "I'll catch you," as he passed by her and started to roll over himself. He started to build speed quickly as he dove after Rainbow, she was diving much faster with the additional weight of her child. She caught up again with the Wonderbolts as they drew closer to the clouds that they were going to use to land. As they slowed their descend, Rainbow summoned the last of her strength and strained as she battered her wings to keep from going through the clouds. Indominus spread his wings to slow down as well, but keeping his eyes on his wife, ready to dive again if she gave out and went into another dive. But incredibly, Rainbow managed to stop herself in line with her teammates, gasping for breath and dripping sweat onto the clouds.
Indominus touched down behind her as the ponies applauded the performance, thankful that Rainbow had managed to tough out the show and not pass out during it. Amidst the applause, he took a moment to nuzzle Rainbow and felt her fur soaked over in sweat as she relaxed against him.
"You're one heck of a gutsy and determined Wonderbolt, Dash," said Misty Fly.
"You doing alright," Surprise asked once she caught sight of the huge amounts of sweat covering Rainbow's face.
"Yeah........I've.....handled worse," Rainbow said in between breaths.
"Now you can finally take it easy until you're pregnancy is over," said Spitfire. "You've beyond earned the rest, Rainbow Dash."
Rainbow simply nodded her head in agreement, too exhausted to speak much. She carefully lifted her body off the clouds and glided over to the stands. Her parents were anxious to see how their daughter was holding up after struggling so much during the performance. Indominus was relaxing his tense nerves at last, but as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, his worst fear suddenly came to life. He saw that Rainbow was gliding lower and looking like she was going to impact the stand itself. Then Rainbow dipped right before she touched down, smacked her head on the final step of the stands, went limp and tumbled out of the sky. The hybrid dinosaur felt his heart drop as he watched Rainbow drop down away from the crowd. Time seemed to freeze in place as everypony tried to comprehend what had happened before Indominus's panicked roar echoed throughout the hills.
Instantly following his roar, all of the dinosaurs were diving after Rainbow to try and catch her. Scootaloo joined them as they tried to gain as much speed as they could to try and close the distance. Rainbow's unconscious body continued to tumble out of control, and it only made Indominus more worried to see her not even attempting to try and recover. He couldn't use his Worldbreaker form to close the gap because he was afraid that if he stopped Rainbow so abruptly, that he might injure his child in the process. Thankfully, Scootaloo and the raptors were smaller and lighter than he was, and they pulled ahead by snapping their wings shut which allowed them to gain more speed.
The velociraptors caught up to Rainbow's body and were on all sides of her as Scootaloo sped past them and put her legs against Rainbow's back. She began batting her wings wildly to slow down Rainbow's descend, Blue joined her by holding Rainbow's body and started flapping her wings rapidly too. Charlie, Echo and Delta followed suite and the five flyers were able to slow down the descend. Their combined wingpower stopped Rainbow's fall, and most importantly, they had her held in their grip like a cradle, which ensured that her child hadn't been harmed.
Indominus and Rexy caught up with the group and the hybrid pulled the goggles off Rainbow's face to see that she was out cold, and had a big bruise from where she had hit the stands. He gently put his head to her chest and held his breathe as he waited. He finally breathed a sigh of relief when he heard both Rainbow's heartbeat and the echo of a smaller heartbeat that followed hers. Scootaloo and the raptors carefully laid Rainbow into Indominus's arms, and he gently held her close to his chest.
"She's ok, they're both ok," Indominus said as he tried to calm himself after the terrifying experience. He flew back up towards the stands with the rest of his family, and the moment he touched down, Windy, Bow, the Wonderbolts and the Mane Five were gathered around him. Discord was courteous enough to stay afloat next to Indominus and give him time to catch his breath before he popped the question.
"Is she hurt, Indominus," Windy asked after seeing the bruise on Rainbow's face.
"She's out cold, but she's still breathing. So is our child, they're both ok."
"I'm amazed she managed to hold out that long," said Twilight.
"Yeah, with how much she was straining herself, you'd think she was going to pull a wing muscle," said Pinkie. She caught sight of the big bruise as well. "Oh, she'll be feeling that when she wakes up."
"I know that this isn't the best time darling, but everypony has been talking about her pregnancy from the moment she showed up," said Rarity.
"I'll deal with Neighsay and his remarks later."
"You mean, WE'LL deal with him later," said Rexy. "If he gives you trouble for Rainbow being pregnant, then we'll stand by your side, brother."
"Right now, you get Rainbow to a hospital to have her checked out," said Spitfire.
"We'll be at the castle, ready for any notices from Neighsay demanding our presence," said Scootaloo.
"I'll take you there, my friend," said Discord as he teleported himself, Fluttershy, Indominus and Rainbow to the hospital in Ponyville. As everyone left the stands, they could still hear the ponies from Canterlot gossiping about everything they had witnessed. The dinosaurs knew it wouldn't take long for word of this to reach Neighsay, and then Indominus would have an even more annoying thorn in his side.
Rainbow slowly began to stir awake. Her face slightly stinging from the impact and the sound of machines beeping caught her ears as her vision returned. She found herself in a hospital room, her Wonderbolt uniform resting beside the bed and her husband, Fluttershy, Discord and her parents in the room with her. Windy and Bow had flown to the hospital since they hadn't been teleported by Discord before and didn't quite trust him just yet.
"Wha....what happened?"
"You blacked out before you touched down, honey," Windy said as she hugged her daughter.
"We thought you had been hurt, you were really pushing yourself out there," said Bow as he joined the hug.
"Sorry if I made you guys worry so much." Rainbow said as she returned the hug. She caught sight of Fluttershy and Discord watching the exchange. "Was I really pushing myself that hard?"
"From what Indominus told us, your entire body was covered in complete sweat when he held you after that fall," said Fluttershy.
"One might say it was compared to a massive wet sponge," Discord said while twirling a wet sponge above his eagle claw. "But all joking aside, Rainbow, what's up your expanded belly? There's no way that it's just one pony inside you."
"We're not even sure on that ourselves, Mr. Discord," the doctor said as he came into the room with a monitor trailing behind him.
"What's going on with me, doctor?"
"Well Mrs. Dash, after Indominus brought you in here, we had an ultrasound done an hour ago and we finally got to see what was causing your extreme exhaustion. Though, the results were not what any of us expected."
Windy and Bow moved aside so Rainbow could see the screen as the doctor turned it on and showed them all the ultrasound he and his staff had taken over an hour ago. The ultrasound showed what looked like a baby filly in the center, and they could see that she shared some visible features that were similar to her mother and father. Her wings weren't feathers, but were the same bat-like wings that Rainbow had in her guardian form, though not as sharp as her Worldbreaker wings. The filly's tail wasn't hair either, rather there was a small, scaly tail that instantly showed she was indeed Indominus's child.
"Looks like your child has the best of both you and your husband," said Windy. Then something else on the ultrasound screen caught all of their eyes. Something that looked very.....off.
Rainbow saw a sort of black shape moving around the filly in the womb. A small slender black shape that constantly circled the small pony like a snake, and only seemed to stop periodically. The only indication that it had any kind of limbs were when it occasionally appeared to reach out and hold one of the filly's legs. Nopony in the room could understand what they were looking at.
"We believe that this black shape may be the cause of your exhaustion. It's possible that it has been consuming just as much energy as your daughter this whole time. It truly is remarkable that you managed to pull off that performance while all this was going on."
"Can you even tell if it's a pony," Bow asked.
"When we performed the ultrasound, we couldn't get anything off of it. Whatever that thing is, it was somehow able to hide itself from the scan. I've honestly never heard of a pony that is capable of doing something like that."
"If I may doctor, I could take a peek inside and confirm for myself," said Discord. "If that's ok with you and Rainbow, Indominus."
"If you're able to see what it is, then I'm fine with you checking, Discord. Are you fine with it, Rainbow?"
"He's already done plenty for us, I can let him check this once."
Discord appeared beside the bed and his eyes began to glow red as he peered at Rainbow's bulging stomach. His vision was going through Rainbow's skin and muscle until he could see the womb. He immediately spotted their daughter and saw that the features the ultrasound had shown them were correct.
"Those machines don't lie, she really does have the best traits of her mother and father. Wait a minute, what's this?"
"What are you seeing Discord," Fluttershy asked.
Within the womb, Discord spotted the black shape that the ultrasound had failed to identify.
"It's slinking around her body like a protective dragon. From what I can see, I think this thing has long black arms. Which would explain which it's able to move around like a snake."
Then the black shape suddenly stopped circling the filly, and lifted its front. Discord watched as the shape seemed to be actually smelling from within the womb, then his eyes went wide as the shape moved away from the child and seemed to be staring at him. Fluttershy could see Discord's eyes getting bigger in shock and disbelief.
"What's going on in there," Rainbow asked.
"What is it you're seeing, Discord? Tell us," said Indominus.
"It's like this thing knows I'm looking at it. I can swear that it's staring ri-" Discord stopped when he saw something horrifying.
On the black shape, a pair of glowing red eyes with slit pupils opened up and stared directly at Discord. The Lord of Chaos was rooted to the spot as dragon-like eyes appeared to be staring right into his soul. Then the creature did something that caused Discord to back up against the wall. Fluttershy had never seen him so scared before, or sweating so wildly.
"What was in there?"
"That thing had glowing red eyes, and it's like it knew I was watching it. But the scariest part is, it drove me out by opening a mouth full of jagged teeth."
"What?" Indominus couldn't believe what he had heard, nor could Rainbow.
"Discord, are you saying that-"
"I'm not even sure myself, Indominus. That 'thing' had features that don't belong on any pony. Those eyes were very similar to yours, as were those teeth. I honestly have no idea what it could be either. All I know is that whatever this creature is that's dwelling within Rainbow Dash, it's no pony. It might be some kind of hybrid, like you."
The whole room was silent after Discord said those words. Indominus could only stare at his wife's stomach, now faced with a whole new dilemma. Rainbow was going to be giving birth to more than just one child, but when this supposed hybrid would be born, it's arrival would be the start of a new beginning in Equestria. The start of a generation of hybrids.
