In a last attempt to destroy Princess Celestia and her Solar Empire, Princess Luna allied herself with Discord... A very grave mistake. Discord, not content with being second in command, betrayed Luna and, as a retaliation for turning him into stone along wither her sister, imprisoned her in stone... and sent her to the moon... again. After doing this Discord took Luna's place at the head of the New Lunar Republic. Using his shape-shifting powers he turned into Luna and used her amassed power to send all her forces to Canterlot, Celestia's doorstep.

Despite what Discord thought as a foolproof plan, some of Luna's closest friends and most loyal subjects, along with some of Celestia's followers, decide something is up with Luna. They hatched a plan to find out what happened and correct the problem.
